Porsche’s latest 981 Boxster sheds weight while adding power and efficiency

Since first launching in 1996, the Porsche Boxster has offered drivers’ a Porsche experience for a fraction of the price of the marque’s flagship sports car.

The roadster body style and mid-engined layout with sharp yet predictable handling have won it many fans, although its talents have always been overshadowed by that of its bigger brother, the 911.

Yet the Boxster has continued to improve throughout its life, benefiting from many of the innovations and developments found elsewhere in the Porsche range.

The Facts

The latest Boxster features an all-new lightweight body incorporating a completely revised chassis.

The 315 hp 3.4 S delivers 32.1mpg and 206g/km Co2. PDK auto transmission brings increased efficiency with both powertrains.

The cabin has improved in size and is a much classier affair than before, with the dashboard using a similar layout to that found in the 911.

The Boxster S with it's 3.4 litre engine make an incredible noise with speed to match.

As for handling, the Boxster can be driven quickly very easily, as it inspires confidence and always feels composed with huge amounts of grip.

If the driver does push too hard, Porsche’s Stability Management System (PSM) acts as safety net: by continuously monitoring the speed, yaw velocity and lateral acceleration of the car.

Conclusion

Having owned a fleet of Boxsters over the years, this years model is easily the best Boxster ever in production. Coming from the new Boxster S and jumping into the cockpit of its predecessor can only be described as a very disappointing experience. The new Boxster is a car that a man can be seen in, it's looks are aggressive and the sound produced is also aggressive. .

Best of all the performance which previously we have never been very impressed with, but this car is also practical with the addition boot space, this car gets a 5 star report from RIO Prestige.

We believe that the Porsche Boxster S is one of the best value cars on the road.

Performance is now better than ever with the Boxster S PDK close on the heels of the base 911 Carrera with a 0-62 time of 5.0 seconds.

Richard Hammond - Raise the speed limit!

In support to Richard Hammond's comment on raising the speed limit (See here - http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/richard-hammond-on-why-the-speed-limit-should-156859 ) we would like to state that we support this proposed change to the law. We actually believe that the current 70MPH speed limit is outdated and dangerous.

With todays technology and braking capabilities of new vehicles, we believe that the speed limit should be 90MPH. Of course there are older cars on the road, why not impose the 70MPH limit on those cars? New cars with a capacity around or above 2000cc has an optimal economical speed of 90MPH. With a higher limit this will reduce the amount of brake usage resulting in lower fuel consumption, all the facts aside.

A Solution

A competent driver in a capable car should be allowed to sit an advanced drivers test which would allow individual to drive at 90MPH due to the fact he has obtained an advanced driving licence. In cash strapped UK, wouldn't it make sense for the government to have additional revenue? I'm sure many motorists would be happy to part with another £100 - £200 to gain this privilege. If only 10% of the 38 million motorists were to pay a £100 fee, this would raise £380,000,000, surely this would be an interesting proposition for the UK government.

Final Comment

We would advocate an increase in the speed limit, especially if this involved a far stricter driving test. In essence, a dual category system, the standard licence would be suited to people who are city drivers and occasional motorists, the second advanced category is suited to anyone who is competent and willing to demonstrate their abilities in an advanced test perhaps administered by the police. This would also be an additional way of funding one of the UK's vital public services.

Ferrari 458 Italia (2012) CAR review

Well, I’ve waited for what seems an eternity to get my hands on the Ferrari 458 Italia, and all I can say is, boy, was it worth it! Speed, agility, comfort, refinement, all-round usability and high-speed nonchalance… Other supercars will undeniably offer you some, or even most of these attributes – Audi’s glorious R8 V10 perhaps coming closest to encapsulating the entire boiling in one enthralling package.

However nothing, but nothing I’ve ever driven combines so many of these desirables with such an outrageous, no-holds-barred, Blue Riband, twenty one gun salute, supersonic fly-past sense of occasion.

Ferrari 458: Anthony ffrench-Constant's review

Not even £12,800 worth of ‘Special Request’ radioactive horse pee-yellow paint topped off with a roof finished in a £6720 smear of grey, er… grey on the specimen I drove can disguise the fact that Turinese master carrozzeria Pininfarina is clearly back on top of his game. In the flesh, from every angle, the 458’s couture is, quite simply, delicious.

Clever too. With a requirement to channel vast gouts of cooling air to twin front engine radiators, rear gearbox and clutch radiators, the engine bay itself and those massive carbon-ceramic brake discs, it’s something of a surprise to find any bodywork left at all.

Yet, somehow, this design manages to combine those diverse cooling requirements with seriously trick, F1-inspired aerodynamics which harness the passing hurricane (as well as escaping hot air) to generate 140kg of downforce at 125mph (to which I can attest) and a whopping 360kg at the Ferrari’s 202mph top speed (to which I cannot) in a shape so relentlessly pretty it just makes you want to burst out cheering.

Inside the Ferrari 458 Italia

Nor is this sense of occasion remotely dampened as you climb aboard. Toddler-thrilling gullwing or scissor doors the 458 may lack, but what’s the point of a bawdy burlesque show if you follow up the opening number with all the ocular excitement of a half-time interval fire curtain? Too many cars in this bracket still rely on group parts-bin pilfering for switchgear and instrumentation. Indeed, Ferrari itself has been guilty of more than a whiff of fiddlesome Fiat imports in the past…

Not any more. Though now sadly lacking the once trademark, open-gated, snicker-snack gearlever, the 458’s cockpit still rises handsomely to the occasion with an entirely bespoke, stitched leather, Alcantara and carbon fibre-clad layout. It focuses on a wok-sized yellow rev counter flanked by twin multi-information screens and a superbly crafted steering wheel on which you’ll find everything else you need.

By which, in the absence of column stalkage, I do mean everything; from indicators and headlamp, wiper and suspension controls to the start button and the manettino switch via which you may tinker with vehicle dynamics.

Carbonfibre overload!

Though this is a fabulously focused environment I would, in truth, probably forego the expensive, optional carbonfibre trim in favour of standard aluminium finishes, which just lift the cabin a welcome notch above the chthonic. I’d also pass on the optional £4961 racing seats, which are, clearly, not designed for the gentleman of the fuller figure and, for me, mar an otherwise perfect driving position.

Over the shoulder, a sheet of glass separates you from that which much of the fuss is about; a spectacular 4499cc V8 which has been fettled to within an inch of its life to disgorge 562bhp at an astonishingly mellifluous 9000rpm and 398lb ft of torque, without so much as a whiff of superfluous supercharging or wildly threshing turbochargers.

A Ferrari Enzo would be proud of

Enzo Ferrari himself used to say that you bought his engine and got the rest of the car for free. And this sentiment has never been more joyously celebrated than in the 458 Italia. This magnificent powerplant will fling the Ferrari at the horizon with such outrageous, marble-out-of-a-catapult enthusiasm that 62mph comes up in just 3.4 seconds and - more importantly because that’s where you’ll invariably find yourself before you know it - 124mph in only 10.4sec.

Now, bearing Enzo’s remark in mind, I’m of a mind to mention the irritation of a rattle emanating from behind the dashboard, but this was only audible when the car cruises, relatively benignly, with exhaust baffles shut. Even moderately stout throttle applications open all the windows, and what begins as an enthusiastic bwaaaaaaa rapidly builds to an all-consuming wail which, no other road car currently revving to 9000rpm, you simply won’t sample anywhere else.

Loud it is. Loud enough to obviate passenger chat, consign rattles to aural oblivion and certainly loud enough to make the £3410 premium sound system optioned on my specimen utterly superfluous. Why spend that extra dosh when the whole shooting match is very much a premium sound system in its own right?

The Ferrari from the passenger seat

If you wish to know how rapid this car truly is, ask a passenger. A certain number of trips round the bay are an obligatory side effect of weekend Ferrari ownership in my business, complete with a tsunami of pleasant, predictable notes-and-queries chatter. At the first proper dab of the throttle, however, only one of two things ever happens; it either all goes extremely quiet for the duration, or that glorious sound track is somewhat embellished by an entirely inadvertent stream of invective brusque enough to make a docker blush.

One day, I’m going to hunt out the American bible-belt pastor who erected a large sign in front of his church which read ‘Shouting ‘Oh God’ on a Sunday morning is NOT the same as going to church’, strap him into the passenger seat of a 458, and see if he’ll change his mind…

It’s hard to communicate just how readily, and precisely, this car responds to even modest applications of throttle; just how blisteringly, relentlessly fast it actually is. Suffice it say, I drove with, erm, intent for three solid days before I felt entirely comfortable with the occasional dollop of full throttle.

Ease of use, practicality... the list goes on

Not, you understand, because the 458 is hard to drive… Anything but. Early Ferrari paddle shift transmissions were imported piecemeal, and not always a happy marriage with the powerplant. This seven-speed, dual-clutch offering has been tailor-made to Ferrari’s specification, and is so absurdly easy to use, so smooth and fast in operation, and so hard to catch out, that it makes an instant hero of anyone who flexes their fingers round the helm.

But when it comes to anything other than straight line antics, heroics quite simply come down to the question of how brave a pair of pants you don that morning…

The nice lady from Ferrari who walked me round the car suggested that, for our lumpen boulevards, I leave the suspension in what is rather quaintly flagged as the ‘bumpy road’ setting… It’s been said that Morgan drivers can run over a coin and tell whether it’s showing heads or tails. Well, 458 drivers can certainly mow down a slice of toast and tell whether it landed jam side up…

But I’ve no complaints because, despite an ability to tackle corners far faster that this particular driver can actually comprehend, let alone keep up with, the ride proves remarkably supple and fluid at all times.

Lob in hilariously accurate, willing steering that communicates even the most minute detail of road surface information with fish-wife verbosity, and you have the most engaging driving experience I can yet recall. Bar none.

The only slight snag is that, as my confidence in the car’s seemingly boundless abilities grew, I discovered an ever diminishing need to slow down for minor irritations such as other traffic and… well, corners, and found myself driving faster, and faster, and faster in this utterly intoxicating machine.

Verdict

Granted, £256,487 is a considerable chunk of money to spend on a car. Then again, an hilarious £83,306 of that constituted optional extras on the car I drove. You can actually enjoy exactly the same face-bending, premium sound system-obliterating experience for just £178,491.

That’s still a bundle of dosh, but, I guarantee, try this car for yourself and you’ll be more sorely tempted to find it than you could ever imagine. Best avoid the passenger seat, though.

Government Funding Arrangements for Lotus put on hold!

Arrangements for the planned £10.4m government funding support for sports car maker Lotus have been put on hold, while its new owner makes a decision on its future.

Lotus were approved for regional growth funding in October 2011, when its then owner Proton announced plans to create 1,000 jobs.

Norman Lamb business minister has commented that the funding was on hold, but the government was still committed to Lotus, the government and my department are monitoring the situation.

At present Lotus said it did not wish to comment on these developments.

An interesting development is that on Saturday the investment firm Genii Capital was looking over Lotus company books they are considering whether to make an offer to buy it from DRB-Hircom.

Big Brother wants to take away more, spying on the use of man’s cherished possession!

The term "Big Brother is watching you" originated in Orwell's brilliant book Nineteen Eighty-Four where the population is observed and controlled in every walk of life.

Orwell’s book was first published in 1949, and his prediction has proved to be alarmingly accurate; the UK has approximately 1.85 million CCTV cameras and the average Briton is caught on camera 70 times a day. As most know weare already being watched as we walk down the street or pop into a drive-through, but we may soon be tracked behind the wheel too.

The AA is set to launch a new insurance policy which uses satnav technology to track driver performance. They are the first large insurer to adopt this policy which involves the installation of a small black box into the driver's car which records how they drive. The box will monitor speed, braking severity, cornering and the types of roads used during certain times of the day. Invasion of privacy - why would anyone want this unless forOldGrannySmith or driving a bus, for heaven’s sake?

It works simply enough, the information is transmitted to the insurers, and can also be accessed by users via a website which gives information on overall performance, warning them if they are likely to be moved to a higher premium. It can also be used to prove who was at fault in accidents, detect sudden hard braking, send assistance, and even send stroppy emails to a driver if extreme speeds are tracked.

The insurer is insisting that the system would allow its better drivers to receive cheaper premiums and make all drivers think about driving safely. The police will want it next and the government will think of therevenue they would generate from the 70% of the driving population who don’t adhere to the current speed limits, especially on motorways.

This device would, however, be useful for young drivers who have staggering high premiums and don’t have enough experience to be let loose on the roads without it nowadays.It would likely stop reckless driving and ultimately accidents from this growing group of road users.

Personally, its not my cup of tea, a spy in the car.Next they’ll want to monitor bedroom performance to see how fast we go, this too under the guise it’s for insurance, yes life insurance,to make sure we are not overdoing something.Sorry!

The very thought that these arrogant people tracking my every move is alarming (get your own entertainment or better still a life).

Rio Prestige and Miss Scotland raise funds for charity

Seen above Miss Scotland 2009 at RIO Prestige Performance UK Ltd exhibition November 2009 assisting with RIO franchise promotion in London at MPH TOP Gear live.

Clearly displayed RIO’s Zonda sporting now the legendary RIO coat of Arms coupled with the embossing variety club’s crest in aid of the world famous Childers charity which RIO raising money for on the day. William Gray the Director of RIO Prestige displayed true creative ingenuity in his marketing/promotional skills when he enlisted the services of miss contestants from each regions to promote RIO’s franchise opportunities.

William approached the Miss world foundation who agreed to Miss Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales attending RIO Prestige exhibit at MPH exhibition which obviously drew attention from the 100,000 visitors. The amount of photos taken of RIO’s stand at this venue was staggering the companies exotic display of hyper cars is always a star at such venues, other exhibitors had spend tens of thousands of pounds on their stands but didn’t draw the same attention. Although incredibly shrewd financially, William is an avid supporter of worthy causes and charities, embracing the Miss Scotland brand over a decade ago when he first invited Miss Scotland to Asia to help raise funds for a charity at an event he became involved in.

RIO’s association with the Miss Scotland brand lead to several holders of the Miss Scotland title attending charitable events in Asia over the ensuing years.

Charitable venues attended/supported Include the raising funds for the Tsunami Relief Fund in Thailand 2005.

Rio Prestige are once again quoting for super car hire. The company are initially promoting five super cars for hire in Scotland with a further seven cars being promoted in England.

Having successfully concluded negotiations on terms and conditions of the franchise licence with one potential franchisee, we are happy to say that our legal team have today received a formal proposal from the potential franchisees lawyers for regions 2, south Scotland.

Region two's designated territory stretches from Perth / Dundee south to Carlisle / Newcastle. This proposal is currently with our legal team, should all legal requirements be found to be satisfactory we hope to announce the first operational franchise by Tuesday 24th of August 2010.

The potential licence applicant is very anxious to conclude this deal as Rio Prestige are currently receiving a high volume of hire enquiries from their website, the increased enquiries can be attributed to the optimisation work carried out earlier this month in anticipation of the deal being concluded, this would enable the new franchise to be active immediately since this applicant owns a selection of super cars including the very popular Aston Martin and Ferrari marques.

Having reviewed our positions on the major search engines as of the 4th of August, we decided to leave the cosmetic work on the site until the 12th of August and concentrate on content and SEO. The SEO has been a success so far lifting out position from page 4 to #1 on google.co.uk for "exotic car hire" and back to page 1 for "super car hire".

This has already increased our daily traffic levels and page views. Most importantly, it shows Rio Prestige's commitment to the brand and to those individuals interested in a RIO Prestige franchise licence. Obviously, the higher the ranking the more enquiries we recieve.

There is no higher than #1 on Google! Objective achieved.

Rio Prestige - The facts.

RIO Prestige ceased taking bookings for hire in November 2009 when the company commenced the promotion of the franchise licences being offered for sale at the MPH Top Gear Live show in London with almost 100,000 visitors. It is important to note that all previous car hire bookings had been fulfilled, this allowed the above decision to be taken, essentially meaning the company suspend all car hire pending franchise allocations.

Rio Prestige's promoted the franchise licence availability in four regions. RIO secured the assistance of Miss Scotland, Miss Wales, Miss Ireland and Miss England to promote the Rio brand in their respective regions, unfortunately Miss England was unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances. As always Rio took the opportunity to promote a charity at the venue, in this instance it was the Variety Club children's charity, a very worthy cause.

The response from this show was better than expected and the company had already commenced the lengthy restructuring necessary to be able to secure franchising licence sales in each region. The regions are clearly displayed on the RIO Prestige web site for those interested in the company or its franchise licence availability. All in all, we have received 32 franchise enquiries, 17 of which were genuine, unfortunately only 10 of them had the funds for such a venture. Sadly in many cases we have also declined as the applicant didn't fit the Rio brand. For example one such potential franchisee had the cars, the required funds but lacked the passion and the heart to help us to drive Rio to a new high, raising the standards and setting a new benchmark in our industry.

We stand by our stringent franchisee recruitment criteria, we feel it's a necessary requisite to ensure future success of those who pick up the gauntlet. We apologise to our customers who have had to accept lower standards recently having hired from other super car hire companies, yes, it has taken longer to find the perfect candidates for the franchise positions available. The results will be worthwhile once the first franchise has been placed the standard our customers have come to expect will be available again with the added benefit of being closer to home.

Rio Prestige was incorporated in January 2004 by William Gray an intensely passionate individual who's entrepreneurial drive and enthusiasm led to Rio Prestige becoming the worlds first hyper car hire company. The company offered such brands as Pagani, Spyker, Ferrari Enzo and Bugatti Veyron to name but a few. The final crowning glory of this was the fact that the car manufacturers such as Koeniggseigg and Spyker endorsed Rio Prestige and commented to the reporter of the national 6 o'clock news that Rio is a beacon of light in the industry and that they were proud to be associated with the company.

The supercar hire industry, born at the beginning of this century, continued to grow throughout 2005/6 to a peak in 2007 and, as a direct result, had seen as many as fifty companies enter the market competing for business in the UK. The general public and business is very aware that supercars are available for hire, and the industry had become accepted as the prestige end of the car market, with an ever growing educated end user.

As a result of the 2008 global economic crash, this market was plagued by falling supercar prices, as highlighted above, which in turn lead to the end of many businesses who started falling by the way side regularly. Most companies had been relying on vehicle finance to obtain their fleets, and this became a very serious issue as they began to see company assets (Lamborghini, Ferrari and Aston Martin) fall by thousands of pounds a month during 2008. When coupled with the fact that lenders were asking these same clients for additional security, due to residual values of assets falling to less than half of that lent, many were simply unable or unwilling to provide additional money or assets to retain vehicles purchased. This led to many more repossessions and more supercars entering the used car market for sale with further downward pressure on values.

The number of competitors in the market had dwindled dramatically to less than twenty by mid 2008, most having given up due to the economic downturn or been forced into insolvency. The changes in the financial climate have had far reaching effects on the supercar market. Even companies previously considered reputable with good access to finance could in some cases no longer obtain funding. Thus they could not replace cars or worse were forced to sell their current vehicles in a poor market at very low prices. I know of several cases were companies were unable to respond to financial obligations, leaving the owners with nothing sadly but bad debt after years of hard work.

Fortunately, RIO Prestige Performance UK Ltd owned their car fleet outright. Had they had finance on the stock, as many others in the supercar hire business did, it would have been far worse, and a negative equity situation, similar to that recently seen in the housing market, would have almost certainly occurred. RIO Prestige’s two main competitors had vehicle finance in position and this was perhaps the main factor in them both being declared bankrupt.

In line with the banking disaster, housing market losses and demand for luxury goods, the super car market has been similarly affected.

This in itself has generated an opportunity in that the demand for super car hire remains very strong for people with access to money required for initial set up and running costs the prestige car hire market looks ripe.

What about RIO Prestige Performance UK Ltd?

RIO, who are considered industry pioneers, being the world’s first manufacturer approved hyper car hire company, were also among the first in the industry and thereby fortunate in that they had already built a sizable client base before the economic crash. Importantly these clients were loyal. Not forgetting that supercar rental is a relatively new industry and even though I had predicted a downturn in vehicle residual values, and took preventative action in sanctioning the sale of five vehicles in the May/June 2008 which in its self was unusual at that time, in that this was pre-summer season the markets high season. That said the market indicators employed at that time showed clearly that super car values continued the free fall. RIO Prestige had already moved bookings from vehicles sold to the remaining fleet in order to optimise their usage, this had obvious benefits. This was expedited in expectation that we would see bookings drop by a forecasted 15% to 20% during summer. Even these relatively significant actions were not sufficient as hire revenue continued to drop further, reaching an all-time low in September 2008 which meant that running costs were far in excess of the income the company required.

By mid-November it was clear that the normal uptake on spring bookings were down by almost 40% on last year’s numbers. My swift action to cut the company’s marketing budget dramatically would mean that the company’s survival had been assured moving forward, these cuts were deep. For example, the offsite marketing budget used for motor shows was reduced by over 65%. The planned TV advertising was almost completely cancelled, with only the Christmas advert left running having negotiated a further 25% discount on this ad. All TV ads were cancelled for the first half of 2009. The staffs were informed in November that hard copy advertising was also to be cut by 75% for 2009.

A survey carried out on a company contacted at the time showed that clients were expressing concern over the economic situation in the UK. They were in general naturally cautious over spending money. Plagued by the fact that running costs were still too high, I had no option but to consider staff redundancies at the beginning of February 2009. RIO were able to limit redundancies meaning that only one staff member was made redundant with rental sales staff offering to become self-employed rather than face possible redundancy later that year.

Fortunately, RIO Prestige came up with an innovative and ground-breaking solution with meaning that the company could replace vehicles sold without capital cost, in a sense taking advantage of the crisis and making use of the market condition.

The opportunity above came in tandem with the reluctance of both banks and financial institutions to lend money, making it difficult for those wishing to sell their supercars. Knowing this fact RIO Prestige approached some such people inquiring whether they would wish to limit their capital loss by receiving rental income through hiring their cars in association with RIO. This innovation has been remarkably successful and totally changed the business today. As always this has been adopted by the competition, but as usual RIO was first to find opportunity in an ever-changing rental market ,we had even saved some people from losing their valuable asset, which in turn assisted RIO Prestige to maintain their market share at little capital cost.

To further highlight the current opportunity, the RIO Prestige Performance fleet was valued at £1.7 million. If one was to acquire a similar fleet today, the same fleet would cost as little as £650k. Looking back fortunately the company sold most of it cars avoiding a further loss of over a million pounds due to depreciation brought about by the market crash of 2008. The important factor today is that the rental demand and rental pricing has not changed, meaning that the returns seen from capital investment has increased. The simple reason for this is supply and demand; competitors in the marketplace have gone due to the financial crisis witnessed during 2008/ 2009, although the market demand for rental has remained the same, if not increased this year.

Another influencing factor on the super car rental market to take into consideration would be the fact that an individual who may have purchased a super car ahead of the market crash of 2008 for private use would have suffered a phenomenal loss. This individual would subsequently not be so keen to suffer such a loss again. For some this will be enough to drive them to the super car hire market where they know exactly the cost of use, after all most supercar owners rarely use their cars.

The above highlights the factors that may benefit any potential RIO franchise; in closing I will cite perhaps a very important fact that is not so obvious. Anyone wishing to enter the super car hire market as a supercar rental company would be faced with the massive barrier “insurance”. There are few companies who will insure such prestige vehicles for the purpose of hire and reward. These insurance companies are market professionals; they understand exactly the risks involved in such a venture. Obviously, the insurance companies are highly likely to reject any newcomers to the supercar industry and rightly so due to the risks involved. These companies are looking for seasoned individuals with a proven track record in supercar hire.

Rio Prestige attended the Variety Club Childrens Charity Gala Dinner in London on the 10th of November.

Having just completed the MPH exhibition RIO stayed in the spotlight with their acceptance to attend the Miss World Organisations Charity Ball at the Grosvner House Hotel in Mayfair. Pictured above is Nick MacPherson a long standing member of the RIO staff with Director William Gray. This venue was a class affair with some 120 Miss World contestants seated amongst the guests with famous TV personalities and high profile business people at every turn.

As an adopted child, William Gray (Director of Rio Prestige) is always quick to lend support to children's charities. The variety children's charity has been around for a long time and is highly respected.

On a lighter note, at the RIO table were both Miss Singapore and Miss Indonesia (pictured below). Having spent the evening talking with both young ladies, William commented that Miss Indonesia portrays an elegance and stature rarely seen in women today. William commented further that she is a testament to her parents and a remarkable ambassador for her country. As such, he believes she is a very strong contender for this years Miss World crown.

The day after saw all 120- contestants leave to Johannesburg to prepare for the Miss World pageant.

Supercar Franchise Launch - Top Gear Live - London

RIO launched the companies franchise opportunity at Top Gear Live London on the 5th of November 2009. Pictured above are three of this years Miss World contestants with RIO staff. Since RIO are offering franchises in four regions within the UK, they promoted this fact by enlisting the services of Miss Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales.

The company have exhibited this venue for many years and it only seemed fit to use this as the franchise launch. It was always the plan to franchise the company having spent five years and 4.75 Million Sterling building the brand. Finally, RIO can move to phase 2, the placement of six franchises within the UK. Two franchises in Scotland, two in England, one in Wales and one in Ireland. The company is adamant that there will be no fragmentation within the franchise regions, these regions have been selected to offer maximum business opportunity.

Today, only three days after the venue, and with no other advertising nor promotion, we are happy to say that we have ten interested parties.

The Porsche 911 is a sports car made by Porsche A.G in Stuttgart, Germany. The famous and distinctive design is recognised for being a rear engined sports car with similarities to the Porsche-designed Volkswagen Beetle. The car was also air-cooled until the introduction of the Porsche 911 996 in 1998. Since its introduction in autumn 1963, it has undergone continuous development although the basic concept has remained little changed throughout its evolution.

In 2004 the 911 was heavily re engineered and the new 997, was unveiled in July 2004 . The 997 keeps the basic profile of the 996, but takes inspiration from the 993 for detailing, also the new front fascia is reminiscent of the older generation, with the traditional headlamps.

The Turbo version of the 997 series featured the same 3.6 L twin-turbocharged engine as the 996 Turbo, but this time it developed 473bhp. This was in part due to the 997's variable turbine geometry, which essentially combines the low-rev boost and quick responses of a small turbocharger with the high-rev power of a larger turbocharger. As well as producing more power and flexibility, the new turbocharger improved fuel consumption over the 996 Turbo. With these performance upgrades, it accelerates to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.7 seconds (with the manual transmission) and reaches a top speed of 310 km/h (193 mph)

For the first time, the 3 Series convertible is no longer available with a folding soft top, the traditional fabric has been replaced with a 3 piece folding metal hardtop roof. The famous Zonda and its long term friend the Koenigsegg made the long journey down from Scotland in Rio's customised transporters which are invaluable tools for professional vehicle movement. When these icons are joined by the equally legendary Ferrari Enzo again Rio stole the show, our 3 car line up was simply overwhelming and perhaps more importantly the vehicles displayed were worthy of several concurs awards. Each of these highly valuable vehicles has covered very few miles.

By the end of the event Rio had taken several hire bookings which are now in the process of being finalised. Sadly, membership enquiries were predictably less this year although we did have two serious enquiries. This market remains nervous due to several competitors going out of business.

A point commonly overlooked is the fact that Rio is highly proficient in car logistics and hold a full haulage operator’s licence. Rio has been approached by both Ferrari and Lamborghini in the past to move vehicles from England to Scotland and vice versa, it's not a field we would consider entering as we as so focused on our core business. However; in today's market this extra revenue may indeed be worth further investigation.

Surprisingly, we were approached by 3 separate individuals all interested in the Rio franchise opportunity which currently exists in the London area. One gentleman Ranson Tooth may indeed fit Rio's stringent requirements for anyone to represent the Rio brand. Ransons' family is heavily involved in motor design and various other aspects of the motoring industry. Updates on the Rio franchise will appear on the rioprestige.com website soon.

Rio Prestige members joined the stand on all three days to lend their support which is always appreciated; remarkably our club members take a great interest in prospective members as after all the members are the club. Rio provides the tools and opportunity for likeminded individuals to indulge in their passion for exotic vehicles.

The company were provided with 20 tickets for the evening entertainment at Salon Prive, which were distributed to the members free of charge on a first come first serve basis. On the final evenings event Salon Prive offered a charity auction in aid of the Prince Charles trust which is a remarkable charity. Rio's table had prominent guests and as such Rio were able to secure the final bid in one lot's offered in the auction and as such donated £5,500 on the day.

The Lambourghini Diablo was launched in 1990 as successor to the legendary Countach. It was developed under the investment from Chrysler which bought Lamborghini in 1987. With more money, no wonder the Diablo was better developed than any other previous Lamborghini. Eventually, it survived for 11 years and 2884 cars were built, breaking the record held by Countach.

More car clubs face insolvency

Recently we have seen several car clubs face bankruptcy for a multitude of reasons primarily the economic downturn. The recently established Seagrave club along with many others simply fell by the wayside, those individuals who had started these businesses had not perhaps realised the unforeseen costs involved which may have been a contributory factor to their failure. All of these clubs were well known to RIO, even the long established P1 has fell victim to this markets current position. P1 as most know has subsequently slid in to possible bankruptcy.

Our club took stern measures during 2008 which included the dramatic downsizing our off site promotional activities. As motor enthusiasts know each year RIO attends almost all large motor shows as exhibitors, however these venues are costly and are attended on the basis of the assessed possible returns from such promotions. The Risk reward ratios have significantly increased and as such RIO Prestige will not attend the Goodwood festival of speed nor Goodwood revival this year these shows were marginally profitable, we have also cut Top Gear Live Birmingham from our calendar and as such we have reduced capital expenditure on events by 75% and shaved over £100,000 from annual operating costs. We took the decision in October 2008 following a valuation on business generated as a result of printed media advertising the results of this study has led to a cut in printed advertising in magazines such as Top Gear by two thirds during 2009 and in doing so reduced marketing spend by a further £35,000.

The club have decided to focus on mega venues such as Top Gear Live London and Salon Prive both of which have always produced exceptional results this tactic has reduced risk reward ratios that in today’s market are currently unpalatable. To date the actions taken have been proven to be prudent.

As always Rio Prestige and RPM club market their services at both car shows and other venues throughout the UK. 2008 was the biggest ever show attendance where we displayed at MPH London, MPH Birmingham, Salon Privee, Goodwood festival of speed, Goodwood revival to name but a few. This year we have cut back because we've chosen instead to concentrate on the main venues. These venues have been proven to generate the most interest and more importantly produce business.

The venues we are exhibiting at are listed below in chronological order:-

North of Scotland Car Show (Aberdeen Exhibition Centre) - Sunday 31st of May 2009

Rio have exhibited at this event once before and as such were invited to attend as special guests of the orginisers this year. Even if this promotional opportunity is the smallest venue in our calendar its important to us because Rio have a strong presence in this region. The company has became a household name in the north east and will always take the opportunity to promote their services to an already established market.

Aberdeen is the oil capital of Europe and is an ideal place to captivate both local and international business, history has shown that our years of marketing in this area has led to this becoming a primary area of business for RIO.

We brought our now famous Zonda (featured in the BBC Apprentice) to the venue which as usual drew a crowd on the day to the satisfaction of the event promotors.

Importantly, Rio's attendance at this event resulted in several confirmed hires as a direct result of the exibit which has made the event profitable already. We are also likley to supply vehicles for two wedding enquiries received on the day which would generate further revenue for the company.

Salon Privee - Hurlingham Club London - 22nd 24th of June 2009

Now in its fourth year, Salon Privé is the UK’s ultimate Super Car Event and Concours d’Elégance. The three day event offers a unique opportunity to see the most exotic modern and vintage super cars in the world, with the exquisite and exclusive Hurlingham Club as a backdrop.

If you visit the Salon Privee site you will quite clearly see that our cars are displayed at the previous event. The Rio hyper cars are feature strongly and are as main attraction for visitors to this event.

This will be the second year that we attend this show, we will be showing the Zonda and two other hypercars to this venue, perhaps the Bugatti Veyron and the Gumpert Apollo will join us on the day. Our members are again invited to join us at the event free of charge; we have obtained tickets for this purpose. This year we also have two tables for two out of the three night dinners and have 20 seats to fill for evening dinner. This year is said to be by meteorologists, a long hot summer. With that in mind this could be a very success show both in numbers of attendance and as history has shown, revenue recieved at the event, after all Britain unfortunately doesn't share the same climate as the south of France or Italy.

MPH Top Gear Live - London - 5th to 8th of November 2009

Rio is no stranger to this event, this will be our fourth appearance at this venue. Last year our stand with the Bugatti, Zonda and Koenigseigg lead to the London TV news being filmed from our stand much to the surprise to some manufactures like Jaguar / Lamborghini who had spent hundreds of thousands of pounds dressing their stand. Rio's stand didn't cost anything close to this, to draw a comparison, some women can dress up as much as they like but they won't attract much of a crowd, with three legendary thoroughbreds on our stand we had to fence off the stand and put into place policing to stop people climbing onto the stand.

As always we are one of the main attractions of the show, this can easily been seen by the amount of visitors to our stand, it was so busy we completely ran out of literature on day 2! We gave out 5000 brochures in only two days. Our director commented that by the beginning of day two he had a sore throat and was unable to talk much more, for anyone who knows our Director, they will understand how busy it must have been!

Again, as with all events we invite members to attend the show free of charge, we have tickets for admission and tickets for the Top Gear live show, members are open to invite guests.

One of the great things of this show is we have seen a steady increase of hires taken at the event even although we have cut back on expenditure due to the UK economy in 2009, we felt very strongly that we must attend this venue as over 100,000 people pass though this area, many of which are car fanatics. We feel the cost of the venue will be quickly recouped and will keep our name in the forefront of the media.

Again, our Director will be attending the event leaving the sunny climate of the far east to ensure everything runs smoothly and to answer any questions directly.

We intend to have a surprise car at this event, so watch this space!

Voucher Redemption

Rio staff were advised by Willam Gray that the company was no longer promoting or offering voucher sales on the 2nd of July 2008.

The company detected that vouchers had been misappropriated, this was the primary reason for their withdrawal. William Gray contacted several parties throughout his visit to the UK in 2008 to ensure that customers who had purchased vouchers were made aware that the date of expiry was approaching.

On the 23rd of March 2009, to ensure that all customers who purchased vouchers were aware that the redemption period was coming to an end the text below was posted. This was extended for an additional month until the 23rd of April 2009.

Thursday 27 November - Sir Jackie Stewart was presented with an honorary doctorate today by the University of St.Andrews in recognition of his outstanding contribution to motorsport. Rio Prestige were honored to provide him with an Aston Martin for a lap of honour in the University grounds, which was met with great enthusiasm by the other graduates and assembled TV crews and press. Quantum of Solace (2008) is the 22nd James Bond film by EON Productions, due for release in the United Kingdom on 31 October 2008. The sequel to the film Casino Royal, it is directed by Marc Forster, and features Daniel Craig's second performance as James Bond 007. In the film, 007 battles Dominic Greene, a member of the Quantum organization posing as an environmentalist, he intends to stage a coup in Bolivia to take control of its water supply. Bond seeks revenge for the death of Vesper Lynd, and is assisted by Camille, who also wants to kill Greene.

Producer Michael G. Wilson created the film's plot while Casino Royal was shooting. Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, Paul Haggis and Joshua Zetumer contributed to the script. The title was chosen from an unrelated 1960 short story in Ian Fleming's For Your Eyes Only. Location filming took place in Panama, Chile, Rome and Austria, while the sets were built at Pinewood Studios. Forster aimed to make the film more modern yet classic: antique planes were used for a dogfight sequence, while Dennis Gassner's set designs are reminiscent of Ken Adam's work on several early Bond films, yet Forster rejected a grotesque appearance for Greene to comment on the hidden nature of the film's corporate villains.

Spyker to build road going version of GT2 Le Mans Car

the road version of its GT2 LeMans car. The Spyker C8 Laviolette LM85 will be built as a limited edition of 24 units maximum, and will be available in both left and right hand drive. Production of the LM85 commences this quarter.

Zeewolde, 15 September 2008 - Spyker Cars N.V., manufacturer of exclusive premium sports cars, proudly presents the Spyker C8 Laviolette LM85

The LM85 is an advanced mid-engine, two-seat sports car. It is characterized by a lightweight all aluminium body construction and an uncompromising engineering package. The powertrain of the LM85 is the all aluminium Audi 4.2 Litre V8 engine producing 400 bhp. This is paired to a manual six-speed Getrag gearbox, driving the rear wheels with a Drexler limited slip differential. ABS is standard. The use of aluminium parts and other lightweight materials results in an impressive power-to-weight ratio and underlines the GT2 racing heritage of the car.

Exterior

Based on the Spyker C8 Laviolette GT2R, the racing characteristics of the LM85 are numerous, such as the all aluminium chassis, GT2 livery (Burnt Almond Orange with Gun Metal ‘S’ logo), side mirrors in body colour, a carbon fibre rear spoiler, and GT2 windscreen streamer. Behind the black powder coated alloy wheels, black AP Racing 6 piston brake calipers with AP Racing logo appear. The LM85 can optionally be equipped with Le Mans sticker sets as well as a customised LM85 car cover.

Interior

The ample use of black leather and alcantara, which is originally meant to reduce light reflection during racing, has been finished with orange contrast stitching and characterizes the unique interior of the LM85. The dashboard instrument panel is made of turned aluminium. Each car will feature a personalised LM85 serial plaque. On request, Chronoswiss dials and switches can be installed and are virtually identical to the Chronoswiss 24Hours Pilot Watch every LM85 owner receives with his car. The black floor mats are made of fire protective material, finished with orange piping and the LM85 logo embroidered.

Extra features

As mentioned above, every LM85 owner receives a special edition Spyker Chronoswiss 24H Pilot Watch with orange crocodile strap. The serial number of the car will be engraved on the case of this exquisite time piece. Additionally, all LM85 owners are offered an exclusive Spyker VIP Hospitality weekend at the 24H of Le Mans in 2009.

RIO Aston Stars in RnB Video

Rio provided our Aston Martin V8 Vantage to MC Harvey and RnB Star Nathan for use in their new video for "If I was your man" which is released in October 2008. The Black Aston V8 Vantage stars in the video and can be seen under the famous Forth Rail Bridge at Night and also crossing the Road Bridge in another scene.

The video was shot in and around Edinburgh and Features Aml Ameen www.amlameen.com who is famous for his roles in Kidulthood and as PC Lewis Hardy in The Bill.

The song which is released October 2008 can be heard HERE, This will be replaced by the full video soon.

MC Harvey MC Harvey Official who was a member of The So Solid Crew and was a contestant in The Games was a pleasure to work with as was Nathan (Nathan Official) who released his album Masterpiece in October 2006 and Appeared in Bigbrother Celebrity Hijack and Aml who will be appearing in Silent Witness soon.

Supercar Sunday at Knockhill

This weekend Knockhill wil host Supercar Sunday and Rio Prestige will be there with our 1961 Ferrari Testarossa Le Mans Car with its stunning shark nosed Fantuzzi body. Rio Prestige will be attending Goodwood with our 1961 TR 250 and possibly an additional classic.

The Goodwood Revival is one of the world’s most popular classic motor race meetings and is the only event of its kind to be staged in a throwback to the 1950s and 60s. As well as recreating the golden era of motor sport, the Goodwood Revival offers amazing bumper to bumper racing around a stunningcircuit.

The Revival captures the glory of Goodwood Motor Circuit as it was, which stood alongside Silverstone as the UKs leading motor racing venue during its peak years between 1948 and 1966. At this time, it hosted racing of all kinds, including F1, the famous Goodwood 9Hrs race and the TT sports car race.

Now, for 3 days each September, the circuit plays host to a historic race event for the kind of motorvehicles that would have graced the Goodwood circuit during 50s and 60s. Many memorable classic racing cars are driven by famous faces from motor racing now and then. Sir Stirling Moss, John Surtees, Sir Jack Brabham, Phil Hill, Derek Bell, David Coulthard, Damon Hill, Gerhard Berger, Johnny Herbert, Wayne Gardner, Giacomo Agostini and the late, great Barry Sheene have all taken part at the Revival.

The RAF Leuchars Charity Golf Day, will again be held at Drumoig Golf & Leisure Resort.

Participants begin the day with coffee/tea and bacon roll on arrival before commencing 18 holes of golf. This is followed by a Golfers Meal, prize giving, raffle and auction. RAF Leuchars chosen Charity is the Scottish Motor Neurone Disease Association (SMNDA). Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive disabling and fatal muscle wasting disease that can affect any adult. Last year the SMNDA received less than £10,000 funding from the NHS. The services that the SMNDA provide cost more than £650,000 a year.

Audi warn of vehicle price increase

Audi’s chief executive, Rupert Stadler has warned that Audi may need to increase its vehicle prices to counter the ever increasing cost of materials and technological advance.

In an interview with the FT, Stadler confirmed that Audi would consider a price rise if current economic trends continued, and dependant on what Audi’s competitors did.

Price rises are likely to be seen in 2009.

With vehicle prices and road taxes guaranteed to rise due to EU Environmental taxes levied on vehicles with high CO2 emissions by 2011, Rio Prestige confidently predict a rise in the volume of drivers who seek to enjoy supercars through car hire companies and clubs. It is estimated that the “tailpipe tax” on a Porsche Cayenne in 2012 will be approaching £7000.

McNish / Kristensen / Capello triumph at Le Mans

After a titanic battle with the Peugeot 908 of Jacques Villeneuve and team, Audi won yet another Le Mans victory in their diesel powered R10.

Despite the Peugeot's ability to ultimately post quicker lap times, the Audi's better fuel economy, quicker pit stops and superior performance in the wet ensured that Scotsman McNish's Audi was able to keep a 1 lap buffer between them and the chasing Peugeot. Changeable weather conditions and more frequent fuel stops prevented the 908 from building a significant lead, and even a colllision between the #2 Audi and #32 Zytek late in the race could not deny Audi the victory in what was a tremendously close and exciting race.

The team at Rio Prestige would like to congratulate Nish on a famous victory that sees him firmly established in the racing drivers hall of fame with fellow Scots such as Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark, Dario Franchitti, Colin Macrae and David Coulthard.

Beware of imitations

Some of RIO Prestige's unscrupulous competitors are trying to cash in on the buzz surrounding last night's episode of The Apprentice by suggesting they have the cars from the programme.

The RIO Prestige supercars featured on The Apprentice are back where it all happened

The stunning supercars featured on last night's episode of The Apprentice will be on display in Canary Wharf, London, on Thursday May 29 as part of a special charity event - 'You're Hired!'

The ultra-rare Pagani Zonda C12s and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster the Apprentice candidates were tasked with hiring out will be in Reuters Plaza throughout the day, and members of the public will have the chance to buy tickets for a charity draw to win a luxury weekend spent with the cars - with all proceeds going to the serviceman's charity Help for Heroes. RIO Prestige has previously raised funds for Help for Heroes by racing against Royal Air Force fighter jets in March 2008.

Two teams of RIO Prestige staff will go head to head in a bid to see which one can sell the most tickets for charity. RIO Prestige general manager Edward Legge said, "This is a great opportunity for fans of The Apprentice and of supercars in general to see these amazing cars close up, while also helping one of the most deserving charities in the country. We hope members of the public will show their support for Help for Heroes by coming to get their photos taken with the cars and at the same time buy a £5 prize draw ticket, giving them the chance to win a dream weekend away in one of the cars."

Rio Prestige supports the Scottish Business Achievement Awards Trust with a donation to their charity auction

Two of the world’s most exotic supercars went on show today at a prestigious business event.

A yellow Lamborghini Gallardo and black Spyker C8 Spyder, with a combined value of £340,000, were on display at Dundas Castle, near South Queensferry, outside Edinburgh. The cars were on show to the 550 guests at the Scottish Business Achievement Awards Trust’s (SBAAT) annual celebration of Scottish entrepreneurship.

The Princess Royal was among those at the event, attended by some of the country’s leading business figures.

The supercars were present to promote one of the lots available in the charity auction. Livingston-based firm Rio Prestige donated a package worth over £10,000 to be sold off, which included a weekend’s experience in supercar, a stay in a luxury hotel and a year-long membership to an exclusive supercar club.

Founded in 1982, SBAAT has raised over £2.7 million for Scottish charities, as well as recognising achievement and promoting excellence in business. The 2008 shortlist for the competition included eight individuals competing in three categories - young achievement, international and major achievement.

The day begins with coffee and a bite to eat at the Dakota Forth Bridge Hotel. Drivers will be fully briefed on safety and the route before being familiarised with the cars - the Spyker C8 Spyder, Lamborghini Gallardo, Ferrari 360, Porsche 911 Carrera 2S, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, and TVR Tuscan.

Throughout the day drivers will swap between cars, allowing them to experience the different qualities of each machine. Lunch will be taken on the banks of Loch Tay in Kenmore, and drivers will arrive back at Dakota Forth Bridge Hotel in the afternoon for a chance to relax and compare notes.

Each vehicle is equipped with a pre-programmed satellite navigation system, so no map reading skills are necessary. A trained assessor will also be on hand to evaluate driving skills. Guests can choose to share the driving or book a single seat.

The latest task the candidates face is to rent supercars from the RIO Prestige fleet to the public...

With just six candidates remaining, the pressure is on to win and make it through to the penultimate task. Sir Alan gives the teams a choice of supercars, and challenges them to rent them out to members of the public. The cars include the very latest Aston Martin, a Ferrari, a Spyker and the Pagani Zonda - a car so rare few people in the world have ever driven one. It's not hard to turn heads with such high-end merchandise, but the teams find interest soon dries up when they reveal the price tag to passers-by - with a day in the Zonda costing almost three thousand pounds.

The candidates all set out to prove what they're made of. Someone reveals that they loathe cars, whilst another must overcome their fear of face-to-face selling. But even for the more experienced sales people the pressure mounts and they soon realise just how hard this task will be. As usual, one of the remaining candidates will hear the dreaded words: "You’re fired!"

The north coast of Scotland experiences around three hours more daylight on the Summer Solstice than London, so what better place to enjoy The Longest Day? Midnight golf is a traditional way to celebrate on the North coast!

The RIO Prestige Midsummer Run will take place on June 21/22, 2008.

Zeewolde, the Netherlands, May 13, 2008 – Spyker Cars N.V. and Lotus Cars Ltd., of Hethel, England, announce the signing of a cooperation agreement.

Spyker and Lotus have reached agreement today on the outline of their intended cooperation, which will include a Parts and Platform Commonality Agreement (PPCA), a Parts and Accessories Supply Agreement pursuant to which Lotus would provide certain parts for Spyker’s new C8 Aileron super sportscar, and a concept Design and Engineering Agreement relating to all of Spyker’s future models.

The parties’ objective is to reduce costs of parts and components by sharing technology.

Victor R. Muller, CEO of Spyker Cars comments: “Our company has had a very fruitful cooperation with Lotus, developed over the past four years, relating to engineering services in respect of certain components of our cars, as well as in respect of worldwide certification. To all who missed us you can catch us back at Knockhill Classic Speedfair on June the 8th. The weekend on June 7th / 8th 2008 will see the 3rd running of the Scottish Classic SpeedFair at Knockhill Racing Circuit, Scotlands National Motor Sport Centre, near Edinburgh.

The event will be a festival format with many on and off track activities running simultaneouly. Racing-wise, it will star the first running of the Ferrari Open and Classic Racing Championships with two races for each series, together with other quality racing championships. A quartet of the world’s rarest cars - with a combined worth of over £1million - will be on display at the Knockhill Motorfair this weekend (May 10-11).

The Koenigsegg CC8s, Pagani Zonda C12s, Spyker C8 Spyder and Ferrari 250TR are all custom-built performance cars - each with price tags that run into hundred’s of thousands of pounds. However, the general public will be able to take a closer look at these unique beauties courtesy of Scottish supercar experience provider Rio Prestige, who will be displaying the vehicles from its fleet at the Knockhill Motorfair.

Those who can’t get enough of fast cars will also have the chance to win a day driving some of the world’s most famous luxury automobiles - including Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche. To mark the launch of its new Supercar Day package, RIO Prestige will giving away two free places on one of these amazing experiences. The dream day out offers the chance to get behind the wheel of five different supercars on the best roads in Scotland, and includes breakfast and lunch at some of Scotland’s finest hotels. RAF v Rio

Fife RAF fighter jets went head to head with some of the fastest cars in the world yesterday as part of a special charity challenge.

Pilots from 43 (Fighter) Squadron at RAF Leuchars, together with a Scottish company that specialises in the hire and use of ultimate performance cars and has an exclusive drivers’ club, helped raise around £10,000 for Help for Heroes, the charity for wounded servicemen and women.

The Tornado jets were up against three pieces of motoring exotica, which were in the hands of specialist drivers for the challenge.

The fund-raiser came about after personnel at RAF Leuchars hired one of Rio Prestige Performance’s cars for a function and the squadron later contacted the company with their idea for the daring event.

The cars involved in the race—for the record, two of the cars came some way behind the awesome performance of the fighter planes—were a Koenigsegg CC8, a Gumpert Apollo, and a Pagani Zonda C12.

They reached speeds of between 180mph and 200mph as they hurtled down a track alongside the main runway is their bid to beat the jets to the finish line.

Only the Zonda beat the jet to the finish line.

Tornado pilot flight lieutenant Simon Grieve said, “It was not so much a race for me as they started the race before I was ready, and I was still doing my pre-race checks.

“The car had already started when the starter fired his gun so it was more of a chase. But the event is good fun.”

RAF Leuchars spokesman squadron leader Keith Wardlaw said RAF Leuchars flying squadrons are always looking for innovative ways to raise money for charity.

“The partnership with Rio provides not only participation and an exciting spectacle but the chance to raise thousands of pounds for a charity with which all service personnel can identify,” he said.

Rio Prestige general manager Edward Legge said the event provided the ideal opportunity for club members to experience the fleet of “hypercars”, watch the exciting action, and tour the station.

At the event was Kim Wardner, Help for Heroes’ Scottish fund-raising representative, who said the charity had been launched last October to do something practical for men and women wounded while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

She said that the charity is already two thirds of the way towards its £6 million national appeal target for a much-needed swimming pool and gym complex at Headley Court, near Epsom, the tri-service rehabilitation centre.

She paid tribute to everyone involved in the Leuchars effort and said that the charity was “absolutely delighted” to have people from the armed services helping in this way.

After an extended visit to the Koenigsegg factory in Angleholm, our CC8s is now back and better than ever!

After spending a few months at the Sweedish airbase having a new engine block upgrade and various tweaks, it headed to RAF Leuchars to be piloted by an RPM member in a tandem run against an RAF Tornado.

Unfortunately even with a new engine block, it failed to match the power of the F-3 Jet.

It features a 5.0L twin supercharged Koenigsegg engine, together with many other unique features. The car is more track biased compared to the standard models, as it has stiffer springs and anti-roll bars, reset dampers and lowered chassis. It also features a fully visible carbon body a large adjustable rear wing, larger front splitter and side strakes for increased down force and a unique forged wheel design.

The interior is also reworked and features; color matched leather carpets, Edition side step plates, Edition chronograph instrument cluster, New edition only layout for the center consol control panels.

All other extra equipment comes as standard, such as Carbon Wheels, Special interior trim and color, Rearview camera, Satnav or Bluetooth, Amplifiers, complete Inconell exhaust system in order to save weight.

The Edition cars will be built in two different versions, a CCX model limited to 14 cars with 888 bhp and a CCXR (Bio flexi fuel) model limited to 6 cars with 1018 bhp. The price for the 888 hp CCX is 1 330 000 Euro, and 1 500 000 Euro for the 1018 hp CCXR (E85/petrol flexfuel) version. The two first of each version are already spoken for.

Unveiling of the Edition versions will be at the Geneva Motor show in March 2008, where the first delivery will take place.

Meeting of the Zonda fans

Asher is a regular visitor to the Rio Prestige Stand at MPH, and is an avid Zonda fanatic with the ability to recall all the performance statistics of the vehicle. Asher suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of Autism.

As a fan of the Zonda Asher expressed an interest in meeting Richard Hammond who is also a fan of the stunning italian hypercar. While we were at the Birmingham show we managed to orchestrate a meeting between Asher and Richard Hammond who was extremely happy to meet Asher.

Star supercars set for big stage

RIO Prestige will be on hand to wow the crowds as MPH ’07 gets underway next week. Some of the world’s most stunning cars will go on display at the Earl’s Court, London, when the event opens on Thursday November 1.

Among the star attractions will be a Pagani Zonda, a Spyker Spyder, an Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster, and a classic 1961 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa - all supplied by RIO Prestige.

The event will combine the very best displays and live shows, with Jeremy Clarkson on hand to present a series of performances featuring the most exciting cars in the world and breathtaking stunts. Last year, around 70,000 people visited the show at London’s Earls Court, and its sister show at Birmingham’s NEC.

Edward Legge, general manager of RIO Prestige, said the show was the perfect platform for the supercar specialists to strut their stuff. “MPH is a fantastic event and the ideal place to show off our vehicles. It’s also a good opportunity to entertain members of our exclusive RPM Club, and possibly meet new ones too,” said Edward. “Anyone interested in finding out how they can get the keys to the most exciting garage in the world should make sure they visit us at the show,” he added.

RIO Prestige will also be giving every visitor to their stand at both the London and Birmingham shows the chance to win a Lap of Scotland experience in a supercar. The Lap of Scotland package takes in 1000 miles of the most stunning roads and scenery in the UK, and is worth £1500. New Car: Aston Martin DB9 Coupe

We can now confirm delivery of our newly aquired Aston Martin DB9 Coupe.

The DB9 Story

A great sports car needs a great engine - it is the heart of any high performance machine. In DB9’s case, that great engine is a powerful yet refined all aluminium 6.0-litre V12. It produces 335 kW (450 bhp) and 570 Nm (420 lb ft) of torque. That results in a power to weight ratio of 194 kW/tonne (263 bhp/tonne) - one of the highest figures in its class.

Performance is enormous, yet usable. Top speed is 300 km/h (186 mph) and acceleration sees 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds (add two tenths of a second for the automatic). These figures are impressive and DB9 will respond with real passion.

DB9 is the most thoroughly tested and engineered car in Aston Martin’s history. It is also one of the most technically sophisticated cars in the world. The long list of design and engineering innovations includes the Organic Electro Luminescent (OEL) displays in the instrument pack and centre console. These provide higher resolution, and improved clarity, compared with conventional electronic displays.

Other innovations include LED (Light Emitting Diode) rear lamps that project through a reflector, dispensing rays more evenly than other LED systems. They also react more quickly, giving earlier warning to following drivers when braking.

New Car: 1961 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa

This very well-presented and imposing Ferrari Testa Rossa/61 is powered by a front-mounted 4-litre V12 cylinder engine driving via a 4-speed and overdrive manual gearbox and it has been built up since 2000 using all restored, renovated, and fabricated sun-assemblies – the majority derived from a Ferrari 330GT 2-plus-2 donor vehicle whose chassis serial now identifies this impressive tribute to the 1961-season works sports-racing prototype.

The car was assembled for its late owner, a prominent, highly respected and long-serving member of the FIA Historic Commission. He entrusted specialist engineer Magnus Ahlqvist of the Swedish Motorima company to create this Testa Rossa/61 replica, and what was originally the factory-crafted bodywork of this entirely distinctive model was created with close reference to copies of the original drawings.

The modified and re-tuned 330GT 4-litre V12-cylinder engine develops close to 300bhp, and the completed car weighs less than one ton – 950 kilogrammes being claimed for it. The body panelling is in fact hand-made and finished in overall 1.25-1.5mm thick aluminium-alloy sheet, and since its completion this wonderfully evocative – and most attractively road-useable – Ferrari sports-spyder has carried Swedish road registration. The car is therefore EU registered and taxes paid.

The original Ferrari Testa Rossa/61 model emerged in what many tipped to be the final season of open-cockpit sports-prototype racing. The governing FIA was intent upon substituting a GT closed-car World Championship for the old Sports Car competition, and only four springtime sports car classics were confirmed on the 1961 racing calendar – the Sebring 12-Hours, the Targa Florio, Nurburgring 1,000Kms and Le Mans 24-Hour race. Another followed, at Pescara in Italy.

At the Maranello factory chief engineer Chiti had installed a wind tunnel, in which he developed a new body shape for the 1961 cars, with long, pointed nostril nose, high rear deck and truncated transom tail. Initially a headrest fin was featured, reminiscent of the D-Type Jaguar. The cars were based upon multi-tubular spaceframe chassis with all-independent suspension. The 3-litre V12 engine was set well back and low in the frame and drove via a five-speed transmission inherited from the preceding TRI/60 model.

In period only two of the original works Ferrari TR/61 cars were built new – after 1960 chassis ‘0780’ had been re-developed as a prototype for the new model. The true TR/61s were chassis ‘0792’ with nostril nose and transom tail, and its sister ‘0794’ – both initially completed in January 1961. Only the first car was pressed into almost immediate service, being entered in the Sebring 12-Hours classic in Florida in which it won handsomely, co-driven by Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien. For the fourth consecutive year a Ferrari Testa Rossa had won the opening World Championship-status sports car race of a new season, vindicating the Italian company’s policy of “get them built and tested” well in advance.

The Sebring-winning car later reappeared in the Le Mans 24-Hours classic, in which it was crewed by the Rodriguez brothers – Pedro and Ricardo – and was forced into retirement by engine failure. The second TR/61 made its racing debut at Le Mans, in which it was driven to yet another victory by Phil Hill/Olivier Gendebien. It was sold post-race to Luigi Chinetti – Ferrari’s legendary American importer – and it was campaigned by Pedro Rodriguez in the Canadian sports car Grand Prix (2nd), it won the Governor’s Trophy race at Nassau, Bahamas, and finished third there in the Nassau Trophy race.

This is a most impressive Ferrari V12 reproducing what is regarded by many knowledgeable enthusiasts as being the most outstanding expression of front-engined works car beauty ever to emerge from the legendary Maranello factory. We recommend the closest inspection, and consideration. It would enhance any collection as a highly useable proposition.
