Rio Rancho Homes and Land update

Home sales and prices for homes in Rio Rancho continue to outpace Albuquerque. Recent statistics by the NM Board of Realtors shows that Rio Rancho is holding it's own in home sales and value. We believe a lot of that has to do with the Hewlett Packard employees arriving to town, along with the great school systems and low crime levels.

Cleveland HS & Rio Rancho HS Bands...Is it really for geeks?

Is marching band really for geeks? I think not. Marching band and other music programs are an incredible opportunity these days. It’s not just marching and performing for half times, it’s about teamwork, friendship and competition. As a band parent I truly enjoy being a part of the new Cleveland High marching band program & colorguard called “The Cleveland Storm Regiment”. I’ve also been involved with the Rio Rancho High School band and it is such a thrill to watch their performances too. Both Cleveland and Rio Rancho just finished two weekends of exciting competition and we can all be very proud of the outcomes. This past Saturday at UNM, Cleveland took 3rd place in their division while Rio Rancho went on to finals and eventually finished 4th out of 32 bands. The dedication and time these students give to their programs is tremendous. I have to give an extra special shout out to the Cleveland Storm Regiment as they didn’t even have a practice field for almost 3 weeks into the school season. While other bands had that time to work things out on a field, Cleveland had to patiently wait. I am so proud of the way Cleveland Storm Regiment & Colorguard held their own and the high finishes at Pageant of Bands & Zia Marching Fiesta are a reflection of the perseverance our fine Cleveland students have. Hat’s off to Mr. Gilbert the band director for Cleveland along with the assistance of Mr. Pena who is band director at Rio Rancho Middle School. Another "Thank You" goes to Kimberly Branch our Colorguard Director. Above all...let’s not forget the Cleveland Band Boosters and the many parents who help and give of their time for these great kids and this organization.

Corrales Harvest Festival

As we enter into the prettiest time of the year for the Desert Southwest, a great event for socializing, sampling awesome foods and just having a fantastic time is the Corrales Harvest Festival. Swing by this Saturday or Sunday. The pet parade will begin at 8:00am on Saturday morning with lots of other activities scheduled throughout the day til 5:00pm. The event will open back up on Sunday from 9:00am to 5:00pm as well. Come check it out!

Presbyterian Hospital Construction To Start in Nov.

The thought of Rio Rancho having its own hospital, is very exciting. Not only will this bring jobs to Rio Rancho, but it will bring the comfort of knowing that Rio Rancho residents won’t have to drive all the way into Albuquerque for hospital services. The Presbyterian Hospital construction is back on starting in November with anticipated opening in 2011. Along with Presbyterian Hospital going up near the Cabezon subdivision on Unser, another developer is working on an Uptown style market place in this same area. This potential economic growth is a win win situation for Rio Rancho and Sandoval County.

The prospect of future economic development is exciting news for Rio Rancho residents. Most Rio Ranchoans would prefer to see their tax dollars staying in Rio Rancho. The city of Rio Rancho is taking a look at plans to develop upscale shopping, offices, restaurant & hotel facilities where the new Presbyterian Hospital is being built. We should know more in early September after city councilors review this prospect.

Paseo del Volcan Extension Work Breaks Ground

The extension work for Paseo del Volcan broke ground on Monday that will extend it to US550 from Iris which is by the new Cleveland High. This road will not be completed until 2011 however it will be vital for access to the new downtown City Center. Some Rio Rancho residents are apposed to this new road, but most are glad to see progress in infrastructure development.

Cleveland High opens for 2009-2010 Season

The new Cleveland High School succeeded in opening for the 2009-2010 school season. It is truly a beautiful facility. However, there are still quite number of hiccups to get thru. The performing arts center is not completed and the band & choir students are having to use other rooms on site. No music stands are available and the kids are using chairs to read music. The marching band has no practice field and are many weeks behind trying to get a half time performance ready not to mention their competition performance. The football & soccer teams are having to practice at the Rio Rancho Middle School. Many classrooms don't have books and a number of the Advanced Placement classes are filled to the brim with over 45 students. So Cleveland's brightest & best students are being put through some challenging situations. Yes, this facility is going to be amazing. In the meantime, it's not a complete school & Cleveland's first graduating class are suffering the consequences along with the rest of the underclassmen.

Rio Rancho CVB moving to Star Center

The “City of Vision” continues to move forward in Rio Rancho. The Convention and Visitors Bureau is moving closer to the City Center by relocating to the Santa Ana Star Center. This will allow easier access to Santa Ana and its management team. This location will also help in the promotion of the Santa Ana Star Center along with the new downtown City Center development.

With the cooler Indian summer really just around the corner, the thought of roasting green chile filling the air around us practically makes our mouths water and our sinuses dream about the approaching roasting season. The upcoming green chile harvest for 2009 is predicted to be one of the best seasons yet. It’s not quite time for the best chile, although we’ve seen some garden markets already promoting chile roasting. We’re all looking forward to what appears to be an awesome chile season for the state of New Mexico. Construction resumes on Presbyterian’s Rio Rancho site

Good news for Rio Rancho residents as well as Albuquerque West Side residents… Presbyterian hospital on Unser has resumed construction. This full service hospital will be a first for the city of Rio Rancho. The prospect of having full service medical care for Rio Rancho by 2011 will be a welcomed addition for the City of Vision.

Rio Rancho Cleveland High Registration is Next Week

Cleveland High - the yet-to-be-opened High School in Rio Rancho has set Registration for the 09-10 school year for next week. Officials say construction is nearing completion and the school will be open in time for the first day of classes in mid august. Registration will take place at Rio Rancho Middle school. Sandoval County and Rio Rancho continues to grow. Cuba and Bernalillo edge by Rio Rancho in growth percentages this past year, however Rio Rancho still holds it own being the 3rd largest city in the state behind Las Cruces and ahead of Santa Fe. As Rio Rancho continues to develop its infrastructure and economic growth the population will steadily rise.

No Scorpions Hockey Next Season

Santa Ana Arena and loyal fans will miss not having the Scorpions hockey team around next season. Unfortunately for Rio Rancho and Albuquerque Metro the Scorpions announced they will not be playing this upcoming season due to financial setbacks. The new management company, Global Spectrum is now looking into filling those slots normally used by the Scorpions with other entertainment possiblilities.

Paseo del Volcan Expansion Steadily Moving Forward

Rio Rancho residents along with those involved with economic development will be glad to know that the expansion of Paseo del Volcan is progressing nicely. The city is now moving forward with taking bids for the construction work on this expansion. The projected completion goal is set for January 2011. UNM & Presbyterian Hospitals in Rio Rancho

Planners for the University of New Mexico hospital along with Presbyterian hospital are still hopeful with regards to their plans for opening facilities in Rio Rancho. UNM is moving a bit further along in their process in having bids due by the end of May. Presbyterian is waiting for the market to improve with the hopes of new announcements in the upcoming months. Paseo del Volcan project to be bid out this month

Infrastructure improvements are always a welcomed site in the city of Rio Rancho. One such improvement is on its way as the city of Rio Rancho prepares for bids regarding the extension of Paseo del Volcan. We have received phone calls from appraisers seeking information about land that will need to be assessed for eminent domain purposes. This extended road to and from US550 will help give more and easier access to the Rio Rancho City Center as well as Cleveland High. The new Hewlitt Packard call center is also located in the City Center along with CNM community college which are currently under construction.
