Financial Aid Processing for the 2011-2012 School Year Has Started

Rio Salado College has started processing FAFSA’s for the 2011-2012 school year.

We are excited to announce many enhancements to the financial aid process to help students plan and prepare for their Fall Semester, which starts with Rio’s first Fall Semester Block on 8/22/2011.

New for 2011-2012: Priority Filing Dates

Will my financial aid be there for me when I need it?

To help students plan their enrollment without the worry of financial aid processing timeframes, Rio Salado College has instituted Priority Filing Dates.

By submitting all required information to the Financial Aid Office, you can be confident that you will know your eligibility for aid will be determined well before the start of coursework for your Semester Block.

This will help you better plan for the delivery of financial aid funds.

New for 2011-2012: Book Advances

The process for receiving money for books and supplies before class is getting more streamlined.

Effective Fall 2011, Rio Salado College and the Maricopa Community College District will be advancing book funds to student accounts as early as one week before the start of class when the student has an anticipated financial aid award and meets all financial aid terms and conditions.
After posting to students’ accounts, Book Advance funds will be sent directly to eligible students through MSRP. Students will then be able to shop for books at any vendor of their choosing.

Students will no longer be required to submit a copy of their State issued photo ID to receive the book advances, which makes the process even easier.

Each semester, the Book Advance is a one-time only advance of funds to eligible students. Click for more information about Book Advances.

Updated Satisfactory Progress Policy

As a result of new federal regulations effective 7/1/2011, Rio Salado College and the Maricopa Community College District’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy has been updated.

Remember, Rio Salado College evaluates academic performance for Satisfactory Academic Progress each semester.

Financial Aid Disbursement Update

Financial Aid Update, Fall 2010

Financial aid disbursements will be released to eligible students after your class participation has been verified. Participation is verified during the second week of classes. If you are eligible, financial aid will be released to your student account during the third week of classes.

In most cases, students must be participating 6 or more credits to receive a financial aid refund.

First Time Student Loan Borrowers Only

First time student loan borrowers are subject to a federally-mandated 30 day waiting period before the loans can be disbursed. Please review the Financial Aid Terms and Conditions for more information.

After your funds have been released, it typically takes an additional 7-10 business days for you to receive your refund.

This year, refunds will be processed through the Maricopa Student Refund Program.

To avoid unnecessary wait times, please monitor your account information in Your Student Center at my.maricopa.edu and your student g-mail account.

Book Voucher Update

Did you know that students in good academic standing are eligible to receive a book voucher?

Please review the Steps for Receiving Financial Aid. Make sure that you have completed all required tasks. In addition to being in good academic standing, your Financial Aid To Do list Items must be complete. You’ll know they’re complete when they no longer appear on your To Do list.

You can submit a book voucher online, but remember, each year you must fax or
Scan and e-mail a legible copy of a state-issued photo ID.

Read submissions instructions carefully! Book vouchers are frequently delayed because students submit an ID that might appear legible when it’s faxed, but cannot be read when it reaches the Financial Aid Office.

It typically takes about a week to process your request for books. Please allow: 3 business days for Financial Aid to process the request; 3 additional business days for the Bookstore to fill the order, and time for shipping/handling.

When Will I Receive My Financial Aid?

Financial Aid will begin posting Financial Aid to eligible students’ accounts during the third week of classes. Please familiarize yourself with Rio Salado College’s disbursement processing guidelines and timeframes.

Follow the Steps for Financial Aid to make sure that you are on track to receive your refund.

Review the Terms and Conditions page to confirm eligibility requirements.

Once your To Do List located in your Student Center at my.maricopa.edu is complete and you have met all other terms and conditions, you will be held in class and be eligible to receive a book voucher while you wait for your aid to arrive.
