So I finally took the step of resigning from my old work place, and joining my family business. Yesterday (19th Jan ‘09) was my first day at dad’s office.

We first went to goregaon & visited 2 printers. I tried to understand how the printing machines work. The whole thing seemed very interesting to me, but I havent yet managed to understand the process quite well.

After visiting the printers, we went to dad’s office, and I spent the whole day just observing things. We must’ve reached office at around 3:30pm, and dad had visitors right upto the time we left office at 8:30pm.

Ofcourse there will be no more carrom & cricket, but I’m NOT complaining

I prefer taking the train from Bandra to Vashi for work, and try and avoid the car so I can catch up on my sleep. Yes! I always manage to wake up at Vashi, and in the last 4 years, I havent reached Sanpada (the station after Vashi).

So this morning was nothing different. As usual, took a Bandra start and dozed off within a couple of secs. Just a couple of mins later, these 2 college chicks sit next to me, and start discussing “The Human Body”. I gathered they were medical students and would sit there till we reach Vashi.

And Voila! I wasnt wrong, the giggling went on till I reached I point where I gave a stern look to the girl sitting opp me. Both of them didnt talk for at least 5 mins, but STARTED off again the moment I closed my eyes

Cant these girls realize that the Mumbai locals have separate first class compartments for ladies. Why cant they sit there, and leave us men alone at least while traveling!

I recently installed the FLIR plugin for Wordpress. It wasnt very smooth sailing for me, as the text refused to get converted to an image. I read through the installation guide over and over to check if I was missing something, but in vain.

Oh for those who dont know what FLIR is, please read what the author Cory Mawhorter has to say.

You can read the installation guide here.

According to Dan, the author of the plugin, the plugin should work on Wordpress 2.5 or higher, but it didnt work on my site when I had Wordpress 2.5.1. I had to upgrade to 2.6.5 to get FLIR plugin to work on this site.

The rest should be pretty much simple if you follow the installation guide.

Thanks Cory & Dan for this wonderful plugin.

That is definately not the best way to deal with a situation like this. Yes, I agree Google Earth is NOT used by the common man for any educational purposes, and most of us just mark our appts/buildings on the same, but still banning it is not a solution! We cannot curb terror by banning Google Earth.

There are so many things misused by people. We need to control the mis-usage, we need to weed out corruption, not outright ban them.

The terrorists, who stormed Mumbai did use a wide array of high-tech gizmos. They had GPS systems, that helped them navigate, they had SAT phones. Investigators belive they could have Blackberry devices too to monitor the events as they unfolded.

There is evidence that a couple of them were already staying at the Taj before the attacks.
They could have come a couple of months earlier, taken vids, images, had Google earth not been there.

I wonder what would be banned next…… and they want mumbai to be the next Shangai.

One thing, which I fail to understand about the Notice period is its duration. While each company has its own notice period defined, my company has defined that the employee serve a notice period of 3 months. Yes, 3 fuckin months!

While most of the companies are happy with probably a month or two, my company wants us to serve 3 months. From what I understand, they would like the employee to serve 3 months, so they can utilize this time to find a replacement, and once found, the outgoing employee can give the handover to the new employee.

While this holds true, if the employee is assigned to some work, but if he is on bench, whats the point of telling him to stick around for 3 months. What does the company get - Its anyways loosing out on the salary. Plus, the employee will not be 100% productive during his notice period.

So how many months do you have to serve in your company….?

I’ve been thinking about this lately; infact even tried to practice it, but in no vain. Its far too difficult to live without corruption, without breaking any rules, and live a normal life in this city.

Just yesterday, was driving in the by lanes of bandra and was stuck on a red light. There was no movement on the road, and all 4 signals were red; probably the pedestrian signal was green, but who the f**k cares about the pedestrian signal in Mumbai eh? Everyone around me jumped the red light, while I was just waiting for it to turn green. People in their cars behind me couldn’t wait up, and started honking. Me, being me, finally gave in and jumped the signal too.
Lesson learnt: NOTHING! I was adamant that I wouldn’t break any rules, but I did, but then who cares? With just me following all the rules; will this city be a better place to live in?

I was out for Lunch on Saturday afternoon catching up with a friend. Had sizzlers, had beer! So again, I broke the rule of driving after consuming alcohol. As long as I didn’t get caught, its okay. But then again, I was adamant I wouldn’t break any rule last week - so what happened? YES! I’m asking myself.

I look around myself, and everyone is back to their routine life. I received a storm of 49-O emails last week, but will the common man remember this section when he actually goes to vote?

Everyone spoke about the gateway peace walk, but eventually what happened? Its been, what about 10 days since terror struck, what have we done? We don’t even know if there still are terrorists in around Mumbai, waiting again to strike.

There were groups on facebook warning members to join only if they would actually remove time from their lives and take action. They didn’t want members who just spoke and did nothing, but what have they done today? I was wondering whether I should join the group or no, coz I, for one was sure nothing can be done about this. No matter how much we talk, eventually we do return to our routine lives, which most of us have already done, unless we were directly affected.

So where does all this take us? What next huh?
