Dine The District Food Tour
June 9th, 2012 1pm-4pm

RENO,
NEVADA, MAY 4 2012 - Reno Riverwalk Merchants Association, a coalition
of more than 45 businesses located along the Riverwalk in downtown Reno,
has stepped up to lead the charge as the quickly growing culinary
wundurlust that has hit Downtown Reno.
    “Everybody benefits
from a beautiful, and active downtown river district,” said Matt Polley,
Riverwalk Merchants Association Past President and owner of Java Jungle
in downtown Reno. “The area hosts special events, concerts and builds
memories for members of our community, adding a vibrant dining district
is yet another step in the right direction.” said Rick Martinez,
Riverwalk Merchants Association 2012 President and owner of West St.
Wine Bar in the West Street Market.
    The Riverwalk Dining
District is where Foodies come to feast on the many options of culinary
excellence located in the Heart of Reno, Nevada. The Riverwalk features
unique options in dining & entertainment showcasing selections from
around the world. Adding the title of Northern Nevada's new “Dining
District” is one more attraction for the community.
    To kick
off the new Dining District merchants have teamed up for downtown Reno's
1st Annual Dine The District Self-guided Food Tour on Saturday, June
9th 2012, 1pmto 4pm. Not only will guests have an opportunity to enjoy a
variety of culinary delights from the best restaurants in the Reno
area, the proceeds will help support the continued development of the
Riverwalk District.
The cost is $20 per person, FREE for
children 10 years of age and under. Tickets can be purchased online at
http://www.dinethedistrict/eventbrite.com or during the day of the
event. Redeem tickets by presenting receipt at the new Reno Tahoe
Visitor Center located in the Reno eNVy store, at 135 North Sierra
Street Reno, during the day of the event, you will receive a food tour
map as your formal admission to the self-guided tour during the day of
the event.
With the already very popular monthly Wine Walk the
Dine the District food tours will provide another opportunity for the
community to enjoy the area. Some of the food tours participants include
Wild River Grille, Java Jungle, West St. Wine Bar, Pie Face Pizza
Company, Old Granite Street Eatery, 5 Star Saloon, Campo, Fuego for
Tapas & Vino, Bumble Bee Blooms, Imperial Bar & Lounge, Sierra
Tap House, Beaujolais Bistro, JB Mapes and an estimated 15 other
merchants already located within the Riverwalk.
    “We hope this
event will bring awareness, support and additional revenue for the
business located in downtown Reno” Said Rick Martinez. With the
Riverwalk quickly growing to be the culinary epic center of the city the
Associations goal is to create future monthly food tours, progressive
dining tours, a Riverwalk cookbook and eventually an official
Restaurant week for the Reno area.
    All the funds raised by
the Riverwalk Merchants Association will help establish a safer, cleaner
and more vibrant downtown area.
Abstract Rude stands as one of hip-hop's most accessible healers. Since first making regular appearances at L.A.'s legendary Goodlife open mic sessions circa 1994, this MC has steadily found the ideal balance of strong lyrical substance and high entertainment value. Unafraid to sing his own hooks and break out multiple flows within single songs, Ab Rude is one of the most multifarious graduates of the fertile L.A. rap scene.
Learning from some of the movement's best, the guidance received from his original group, Abstract Tribe Unique (ATU), along with Freestyle Fellowship (FF) has proven to be invaluable.
It was with FF's Aceyalone whom Rude would later go on to co-executive produce the classic compilation Project Blowed. The groundbreaking album showcased Abstract Rude as a skillful MC capable of expressing soulful sentiments with his mystical themes and deeply pronounced baritone. In addition to highlighting the artistic creativity of an L.A. scene known best for its gangsta rap, Abstract Rude co-founded the Project Blowed workshop in Leimert Park - the longest running open mic youth workshop in the world.
In time, Ab Rude has endeared himself to fans worldwide through consistent touring - most recently with international hip-hop artists DJ Vadim and Yarah Bravo - and by releasing quality LPs such as P.A.I.N.T in 2001, and Showtyme in 2003 (on Battle Axe). Most comfortable fronting the atmospheric sounds provided by producer Fat Jack on albums such as Underground Fossils in 1997, Mood Pieces in 1998 and South Central Thynk Tank in 1999 (on Mass Men), Abstract Rude proved that clarity in rap is just as impressive as complexity.

His work on the Haiku D'Etat projects in 2000 and 2004, which merged hip-hop with jazzy soul, only further illustrated his music's diversity and ability to capture listeners of various genres.
After recording under the Beastie Boys' Grand Royal imprint, Mass Men and Battle Axe, Abstract Rude joins the Rhymesayers Entertainment family with Dear Abbey. On his latest album and first for RSE, Ab further broadens his medicinal lyricism touching on politics, relationships, and multiple day-to-day issues. And for the first time ever, he worked exclusively with Seattle, Washington beatsmith Vitamin D - who's produced for G-Unit, Redman, Gift of Gab, Lifesavas, One Be Lo, I Self Devine, among others.
With the ever-shifting subject matter and vocal styles on display, Dear Abbey is further proof that Abstract Rude is a true lyrical heavyweight at the top of his game.
Ordinarily, a new restaurant would not be worth noting, but this is Estee. His Moody's is an institution in northeastern California. Also, this restaurant is opening in an area of downtown Reno that is quickly becoming a destination, the Riverwalk.
The restaurant is Campo, which was set to debut this week but now will open Nov. 16. Campo means "gathering place," and Estee calls it a "neighborhood restaurant with rustic cooking, offering whatever is fresh and seasonal. It is not another Moody's. For one thing, it is going to be very inexpensive. I want it to be as unpretentious as possible."
Estee is genuinely excited about this project. He walks through the operation, pointing out where everything "lives."
"This is where the Cirigliano Forni lives, all wood, made in Naples." Um, that would be the pizza oven.
"This is where the Euromilan and Saima will live." Those are the pasta makers.
And the Stagionello? That's the salami case. And, it will live close to the entrance.
Estee describes his venture as unique. It isn't everywhere you can get coffee in the morning and be invited into the back to watch the butchering (note, not the slaughter) of a pig. Fresh ingredients, indeed.
"We've got wine by the keg, big in Vegas right now," he said, "and we will also make sodas, flavored phosphates like you used to find in drugstore soda fountains. Plus, we have a host of special nights and promotions."
Like "No Ni Night" on the second Sunday of each month, offering a menu of a grandmother's or grandfather's recipes, to be served family style at the restaurant's three communal tables.
"The recipes will be from our friends of Campo and anyone who would like to share a story and recipes with us," Estee said. "We will need to assign the nights one month in advance. The person who is nominating the No or the Ni must write a paragraph that we will share with the customers. We would ask that the person be present for both seatings to share with the guests. The paragraph should be about the recipes and what they mean to you. The kitchen at Campo will do the best we can to re- create these dishes."
Then there is Farmer, Food and Friend Night every third Tuesday, serving a special food or the products of a selected farmer, with a set part of the price shared with local nonprofits.
There will also be wine seminars on First Saturdays, Movie and Meatballs Mondays every week (a serving free with a movie stub from the Cinemax multiplex across the street, plus a movie projected on the wall), New Cocktails Wednesdays; and Thursday Date Nights with a special prix fixe menu for two.
"I saw this spot 1 1/2 years ago," said Estee, "and I made an offer which was rejected, and I looked at other places, but this is the spot I wanted."
It makes sense. Campo will be operating in the heart of what is becoming one of Reno's most active areas, Sierra Street and the river. It is not the only restaurant there.
The Wild River Grille and the River Room are across the water, both located on the main floor of what was once the famous Riverside Hotel. The newly reopened Sienna is just down the river. The new and popular Old Granite Street Eatery is a block way. (Sierra Street used to be Granite Street.)
The area had stood neglected for decades. The downtown businesses along it had their backs to it. A block away, the river was best known as the symbolic spot to throw wedding rings into the water after getting a "Reno divorce" (although few of any value were ever tossed).
Then came change. The Harold Smith Riverwalk was built (named for the founder of the famous Harolds Club). The long-neglected and empty Mapes Hotel was imploded, creating open air. Mapes had once suggested paving over a block of the river to make a parking lot.
Movie theaters and other businesses were built. Artown and other special events brought concerts to Mapes Plaza and Wingfield Park. The Truckee River Kayak Park was constructed.
There are still some unfortunate leftovers of the old days. Businesses complain that one part of the riverfront, Brick Park, still needs attention.
Mainly, the area is bustling, and Campo has been keenly awaited since rumors Estee was coming to town began two years ago.
In honor of Halloween, the Utility Players are adding their own comedic flair to the holiday by hosting an all-original murder mystery party. Audiences will have the opportunity to play detective as they interview suspects, inspect clues and gather evidence in order to decide who committed the murder and why. Written by the Utility Players, the troupe – along with some special guests - will fill the roles of the various suspects for the mystery. “The experience begins from the moment people walk through the door,” writer and troupe member, Christopher Daniels, relates. Daniels describes the event as part comedy show and part game. “We’re a comedy troupe at heart; we’ll provide the audience with all the clues necessary to piece together the puzzle but put our own comedic spin on the story.” Also, although the show is thoroughly planned out, all dialogue and interactions will be complete improv. There is no script.

The premise of the story is that local celebrity, performer and Reno socialite, Vaunna Vandertrump, is hosting a yearly gala in her own honor. Ms. Vandertrump has a number of enemies and more than a number of individuals who hold a grudge against her including: a jealous twin sister, a crazed fan club president, and a bitter assistant. The night is rife with drama, murder and comedic mayhem as audiences attempt to uncover clues and motive to solve the mystery. The Murder Mystery Party is Thursday October 27th, at 8:00pm at the Pioneer Underground. Prizes will be raffled off to audience members who correctly identify the murderer and the motive. Tony’s act is a whirlwind tour of thoughts and impressions with stops at platforms even D'Andrea doesn't realize are on the itinerary. He's from the old school where material comes from creativity and talent, not requiring shock value to sustain it. And while, the jokes, skits and gags can come at you from all angles, they can also be delivered subtly. Borrowing from masters like Jack Benny, D'Andrea can, when he feels it's needed, make people laugh without saying a word. Impressions mixed with stand-up. It's a formula that has gained favor with comedy fans for they get a lot of bang for their buck. When you go to see D'Andrea, you also get Nicholson, Pesci, and a whole lot more.
WHAT IS THE BEAUTIFICATION PROGRAM?
The Riverwalk Merchants Association, a non-profit coalition of 40+ energetic business owners located along the Riverwalk in Downtown Reno raises money to donate to the beautification and rehabilitation of downtown Reno. The (RWMA) has developed the Beautification program with the goal that funds can be raised that would allow the association to complete the maintenance and rehabilitation of our most valuable neighborhood, by removing the overgrown weeds, re-landscape the neglected medians, oversee maintenance of the parks and streets, install public art, support public events and continue our goal to promote Downtown Reno as a cultural, safe, and family-friendly area.

Every dollar raised will help establish a safer and cleaner area downtown by improving signage, repairing damaged artwork, generating cleaning programs and proposing new landscaping concepts. Anyone can donate funds and all donations can be made through the website or mailed directly to the Association.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP?
The Riverwalk Merchants Association needs help from every member of our community. By donating to our beautification program you are able to become a part of our goals to rehabilitate poorly landscaped and blighted areas of the Riverwalk Corridor. Funding allows our association to replace broken or damaged signage, increase police awareness, sponsor public events, clean-up neglected areas, develop recycling programs and help with the installation of public art.

RECOVER THE RIVERWALK!
Beautification improvements are fundamental elements that contribute to the quality of life, vitality of downtown shopping, economy and entertainment for locals and visitors. Our organization is committed to keeping downtown Reno a great place to do business, enjoy life, raise a family, entertain, and appreciate the arts and culture of Nevada.

Our organization sponsors a variety of monthly events and provides donations to various local charities and other non-profit organizations focused on art, theater, health, animals and families. We continually work with the City of Reno and Reno Redevelopment to improve downtown parking, landscaping, crime reduction, special events, and other related projects. We are affiliated with the Downtown Improvement Association, West Street Market, and other organizations which work to make a small business profitable and pleasurable.
Your support is greatly appreciated in making Reno a wonderful place to live, work and play!
The (RWMA) has already donated to the beautification of downtown Reno by replacing 116 brightly colored identifying flags at a cost of $3,489.00, and provided the remaining funds needed to replant the Wingfield park flower baskets at the cost of $4,800.00. The (RWMA) recently applied for a grant that if awarded would enable them to complete their goal of removing the overgrown and neglected vegetable garden on West St., re-landscape the median, oversee maintenance, install public art and continue their goal to promote Downtown Reno as a cultural, historical, safe, and family-friendly area.

In the coming months the (RWMA) will be launching a new campaign that will help raise funding for the City of Reno. The funds raised will help establish a safer and cleaner area downtown by improving signage, repairing damaged artwork, generating cleaning programs and proposing new landscaping concepts. Anyone can donate funds and all donations can be made through the website at http://www.renoriver.org.
RENO, NV – June 6, 2011 – The Riverwalk District Wine Walk on Saturday, June 18 from 2 to 5 p.m. in downtown Reno will benefit Artown Give $3 to Keep Artown Free campaign.

The Riverwalk Merchants Association presents the original and very popular Wine Walk the third Saturday of every month, along the Truckee River and neighboring streets in the Downtown Reno Riverwalk District.

Each month the Riverwalk chooses a new charity that will benefit from a portion of the Wine Walk proceeds. This month the Riverwalk is proud to announce that they will be supporting Artown and assist in their fundraising efforts through the Give $3 to Keep Atrown Free campaign. The Riverwalk will generously match up to $500 for every dollar raised during the June Wine Walk.

In 2010 Artown started a major fundraising effort to help underwrite programming and keep Artown events free for the more than 300,000 attendees. Inspired by other festivals throughout the country, the objective of Give $3 to Keep Artown Free is to encourage attendees to donate $3 in order for Artown to continue to provide the Reno community with one of the largest and most comprehensive arts and culture festivals in the United States. In 2011, every $1 donated to the campaign will be matched by the Robert S & Dorothy J Keyser Foundation, up to $30,000.

You must be 21 or older to participate in Wine Walks. Visit any participating Riverwalk District merchant on Wine Walk day and for a $20 wine tasting fee and a valid photo I.D. you will receive a wine glass, wrist band and a map of the merchants pouring wine. Parking is available in public lots.

Saturday, June 18th you can expect downtown Reno to be bustling with food, wine, and Artown volunteers actively handing out the first official Artown guides with this summers line-up. Make sure to stick around after the event for a chance to win over $700 in raffle prizes for gift certificates to local businesses, tickets to Artown events and more. Plus enjoy free pedal-cars from the pedal-cab company to transport you between the Wine Walk and Nevada Museum of Art for the Museum's Egyptian Bazaar.

In addition to Wine Walk sales, donation boxes will be displayed inside various local merchant shops, allowing individuals the opportunity to support this years Artown event. Every $3 donation keeps the music, performances and dancers on stage and the movies on the screen. Every $1 donated to the campaign will be matched by the Robert S & Dorothy J Keyser Foundation, up to $30,000.

    EVERY MONDAY NIGHT, DINE
ALFRESCO WITH YOUR PET, WHILE SUPPORTING THE NEVADA HUMANE SOCIETY.

RENO, NEV. (May 30, 2011) — Beginning June 1, 2011 a portion from each entree purchased on Monday's throughout the month at Wild River Grille, will be donated to the Nevada Humane Society,The Nevada Humane Society is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1932. It was originally created to address the horrible suffering of local stray animals, which were systematically rounded up and held in a giant pen on Glendale Avenue.
Through the tireless efforts of Enid Johnson and Genevra Kimpton, the City of Reno finally recognized the need for a higher standard — and the Nevada Humane Society was born.
The Society views itself as a community service organization. And firmly believes that animals, domestic and wild alike, are a legitimate part of our community. Their many programs and services are designed to address the needs of all animals — and to provide support, education, and assistance for all the people that care about them.

Most importantly, they want the community to realize that their efforts on behalf of the animals would not be possible without the communities support through events such as “Dinner with your Dog”. The donations they receive allow the society to continue to run their programs and services. The generosity of their donors has enabled the society to expand their coverage and develop new ideas to help our animal friends.

This June customers are invited to dine at the Wild River Grille. A portion form every entree purchased on Monday nights will be donated to the Nevada Humane Society.
The society provides care to over 8,000 animals each year. Some animals are sick, injured, or traumatized when they arrive at the shelter. Whatever the problem, they receive needed care through the societies clinic and trained staff. It costs an average of $240 to care for each animal, including spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchipping, and daily care until they can be placed into a new adoptive home. If you would like to help the Nevada Humane Society continue their mission, please visit their website at www.nevadahumanesociety.org or call them directly at (775) 856-2000.

“Wild River Grille is a pet-friendly establishment and dogs are always allowed on our expansive Riverside patio but we felt that this event has become such a success we would continue the tradition this summer” Says Valerie Moore.

All dogs visiting Wild river Grille receive a complimentary bowl of water and a treat!
The Nevada Humane Society depends on the support of the community and events such as Wild River Grille's “Dinner with your Dog”. Last year Wild River Grille was able to donate hundreds of dollars to the organization to assist in saving the lives of animals.
Helping to Raise Money for Artown!

RENO, NV – May 26, 2011 – The Riverwalk District Wine Walk on Saturday, April 16 from 2 to 5 p.m. in downtown Reno will benefit Artown Give $3 to Keep Atrown Free campaign.
