The study aims to assess the economic efficiency of the available technology, the long term economic sustainability of the chain, the social effects induced on enterprise and community and the environmental effects caused by these technologies. Furthermore the study also evalated management issues indicated by the stakeholders (forest owners, forestry enterprise, energy plant operators, end users). The results presented are a part of overall results achieved during to France-Italy partnership project called BIOMASS. The results are a useful support tool for the design of the supply chain and the plant in terms of logistics, of infrastructures and for the evaluation of the socio- economic effects on the local communities and on the local businesses.<div class="feedflare">

Furthermore the bio-hydrogen production process from waste biomasses can fulfill the goal of waste reduction avoiding the impact of their disposal on the environment. The aim of the present study is to investigate the feasibility of biohydrogen production by dark fermentation using cattle manure alone and in co-digestion with agricultural and food processing waste (deproteinized cheese whey and crude glycerol). Biological hydrogen production was studied in batch reactors at 37°C. The initial experiments on single substrate were carried out to test the effects of substrate sterilization on hydrogen production. Results showed that sterilization promoted hydrogen production up to 3 times. In a second set of experiments different mixing ratio of substrates were investigated to improve hydrogen production from cattle manure. Results showed that co-digestion enhance hydrogen production yield from 24% to 78%.<div class="feedflare">

The topic of the work is the evaluation of methodological approaches for the characterization and quantification of sustainable bioenergy. First of all, the agroenergy planning regulations present at the national level, were described. Then, some environmental and socio-economic modelisation techniques for agro-forestry biomass evaluation were examined. Further future potential improvement and additional lines of research were finally reported, in order to encourage the use of modeling tools as Decision Support Systems.<div class="feedflare">

The Italian agro-food system has reached a global annual value of 250 billions €, which corresponds to about 16% of the added gross value. The agricultural system is also analyzed in respect to the objectives of the European Package 20-20-20. This article outlines the impact of the agro-food system in terms of energy, energy efficiency, use of renewable resources related to the food production. The impact of the large retail groups and the key role of the agro-food system are also analyzed in respect to the development of a sustainable economy.<div class="feedflare">

Energy plays a key role in modern society and is a vital component for achieving sustainable economic development. In this context, we are analyzing the interplays among energy security, competitiveness and sustainability. We raise the attention regarding the question of competitive aspects of finite energy resources, in terms of finding alternative sources for funding for investments in environmental technologies, biofuels, wind etc. The generic relationship is further detailed by considering the particular case of Romania.<div class="feedflare">

This paper analyzes the structure and size of the energy resources in Romania in order to enlighten how the national resources are covering the needs of primary energy production. It is also studied the structure of electricity production at the national level. The analysis revealed the need to enhance energy production and the potential of renewable energy sector to contribute to this which justifies the growth of interest for such energy sources.<div class="feedflare">

Some countries like China, the USA, Brazil or Germany have fully understood the need for alternative energy sources. Still, the emerging countries as well need to make an effort and invest in this field as soon as possible. That is why the present paper wishes to assess Romania’s potential in what concerns renewable resources, emphasizing in the same time the level of some top investing countries.<div class="feedflare">
