Both my parents are Malay. My mum's heritage includes Chinese, Thai and Arab, while my dad is Minangkabau. Due to my skin colour, I am often mistaken for a Chinese.

I'm happy that I don't have the typical Malay look but I do get annoyed when people call me Ah Moi or ask me straight up "Are you Chinese or Malay"

Like, why does it matter? Before I used to answer "Malay" but now I'm trying to consciously answer Malaysian instead.

There's this incident from primary school that I remember till today. Someone told me that I will be called last during Judgement Day because I don't have a Muslim name. Of course, I was scared then but now that I'm older, I realise that a name is just a name. It doesn't define you as a good or bad person and there is definitely no such thing as a Muslim name. You can be named Rashid or Ali and still be a Christian.

I've heard of the 1Malaysia concept, but I think we don't need to be told to be united. We've come such a long way that it should already be embedded in our hearts and minds that we are united. Unfortunately, you can still see racial discrimination and polarisation. There is still this ethno-centric view that the Malays are the dominant group and their rights must be protected, and non Malays are forever the outsiders.

For the concept to succeed, I think the government should stop with the race politics. It's tiring, really. We grew up with application forms asking us to tick our race. We should stop painting a negative image of the other races, stop thinking about 'us' and 'them' and focus on 'we', 'our' and 'Malaysians'.

No one should be made uncomfortable in their own home. A dear Chinese friend of mine said to me once, "I don't feel patriotic because I am not made to feel like Malaysia is my home, and I don't feel an affinity to China because I have never lived there.

I know some baby Nyonya friends who can trace their lineage back hundreds of years. I'm a fourth generation Malaysian. If I am Bumiputra, why can't they be, too? Clearly I have issues with the term.

I think the main reason why we still can't achieve total unity is because of this 'Malay rights' concept. I'd rather 'Malay rights' be replaced by human rights. So unless we get rid of this Bumiputra status, or reform our views and policies on rights, we will never achieve unity.

For my merdeka wish, I'd like for Malaysians to have more voice, to be respected and heard. I wish that the government would uphold the true essence of parliamentary democracy. I wish for the people to no longer fear and discriminate against each other, to see that we are one and the same.

I wish that Malaysia would truly live up to the tourism spin of Malaysia truly Asia. Malaysians to lead - whatever their ethnic background. Only ONE NATIONALITY MALAYSIAN. No Malays, No Chinese, No Indians - ONLY MALAYSIANS. Choose whatever religion one is comfortable with.

Da Vinci: The Genius - Exhibition at Kuala Lumpur

This exhibition is on the works of one of the most famous man from the Renaissance period, Leonardo Da Vinci. Held in 4 locations around the world and I think it is fortunate the they chose to hold one in the National Science Centre in Kuala Lumpur. This exhibition started on 1st October and will end on 17th January.

The exhibition was divided into a few sections.
1st section: A general introduction and some history about his life
2nd section: Flying machines
3rd section: Mechanical devices
4th section: Civil machines
5th section: Anatomy
6th section: Mona Lisa
7th section: War machines
8th section: Musical instruments

I only got some pictures for the 1st section because when I tried to take some pictures for the 2nd section, the people in-charge said I could not take pictures (what the heck!). I didnt want to get into trouble so no pictures for other sections.

1st Section

All of his works stored as codices in possession of which party. It was quite big so I doubt the names can be seen in the photograph but the last name on the bottom-right is Bill Gates!

2nd Section:
A parachute that looks like a tent pyramid, the famous spiral flying machine, a double blade machine that resembles modern helicopter, wings and much more I couldn't remember. The sign states that the spiral machine is the inspiration for the modern helicopter but the other looks more like a modern helicopter to me. ALL of the flying apparatus/machine are made of only wood and canvas.

3rd Section:
Mechanical devices such as the ball bearing, pulley system, gear systems, spring and many more. All made of wood except the spring.

4th section:

Quick to build bridges, piling mechanism, bicycle and many more.

5th section:
One of the best parts of the exhibition. Many large size actual pages of his works. Detailed drawings and his mirrored handwriting.

6th section:
Yes, 1 whole section just on the famous portrait, The Mona Lisa. Results of the research done by Pascal Cotte on the drawing using various photographic techniques. He even used a 240,000,000 pixel (240 Megapixels) camera just to photograph the face!

7th section:
The items that I clearly remember is the UFO-like tank, cannons, a miniature submarine that looked like two halves of a boat put together and carriages that have blades on the wheels.

8th section:
A portable piano, a drum that plays when you push it.

One more unique item was a strange looking clock.

Overall the exhibition was quite worth it. It was really amazing how could one person come up with so many things. RM25 for a ticket but if you are a Telekom Malaysia subscriber or Astro subscriber, you are entitled a free ticket for every transaction.

Well, if more details was added it will spoil the fun right! So go and experience it yourself before it ends.

ISPCA Food Fair 2009

Held on 22nd November 2009 at Yuk Choy Primary School.

The night before it was raining till the morning and it was still drizzling throughout the day.

The food fair was held together with a dog show. Strangely enough, there were only dogs present. No cats, no birds etc.

The event started with a walk around the field by the dogs together with their owners followed by a line-up in the field.
Yes, it was still drizzling at that time...

After the line-up, another walk around the field. This time on the tar road around the field.

The walk ended at a sheltered court where cheerleaders from AMC(Ave Maria Convent) - "Titans" prepared for a performance.

Followed by the introduction of the type of dog breeds present such as;

Doberman

Huskies

Golder retriever

Poodle

German shepherd

Not sure what breed but it came from Australia

There are still other breeds present. The show ends with some obedience display and an obstacle course.

The food stalls sold foods prepared and sponsored by ISPCA members such as vegetarian food, fruits, pearl tea, fried chicken, fries etc. The food sales was assisted by the girl guides.

I left at about 1130am with some buns, guavas and kaya puffs.

You can always support ISPCA by donation, volunteering for their events and adopting the animals. If you are not able to care for the pet after adopting it, sponsor it instead. Lastly, if you are a pet owner, be a responsible one.

Would you like a dimpled car?

I was watching the latest episode of Mythbusters with a myth that "A dirty car is much more fuel efficient than a clean car". The theory behind the myth was that a dirty car will have a golf ball like effect (i.e. dimpled golf balls will travel further than smooth ones).

Why do dimpled golf balls travel further?
They travel further because there is less drag to overcome due to a turbulent boundary layer caused by the dimples. (Refer pic below)

Larger drag is experienced by the smooth ball because of a larger wake produced behind it.

Take note that it does not take the overall efficiency during the dimpled car test. (i.e. the extra weight does not effect the efficiency)

They did a control test for the undimpled car before dimpling and testing the dimpled one.

The verdict?
Clean car (no clay) = about 26 miles per gallon (mpg)
Dirty car (no clay) = about 24 mpg
Clay + undimpled = about 26 mpg
Clay + dimples = about 29 mpg

So a clean car is definitely better than a dirty car. However, a dimpled car is even better!

Maybe we will see more dimpled transportation or even buildings in the future.

Defrost!! 2

Just defrosted the fridge at the condo again. As usual, extra thick layers of ice in the freezer.

I dont remember what time I pushed the defrost button but i removed some chunks at about 7pm before going for dinner. Other chunks are still stuck. After dinner, every bit of ice was removed.

In the first picture, ice from the ice maker (or whatever you call that) comes out with the least of effort.

In the process of removing the ice I even got injured a little. Ice from the freezer can be that nasty huh!

Diaper Change

Imagine that you have a baby and you are at McDonald's having lunch. After eating your baby needs a diaper change what do you do?

A) Change it in the toilet or room provided
B) Change it on McD table in public

I'm sure that most of you will pick A but today I saw someone did B.

I really couldn't believe that someone would actually use the McD table to change the diapers in public! The McD staff better wash the table before allowing other customers to use it for their meal!

I dont know whether the family came from an ulu place or their mentality is just like that. I'm not going the state the race. Geez..

Defrost!!

The fridge in the rented condo apparently is an old model which does not have the frost-free feature so defrosting regularly is a must. However, those 'clever' or careless housemates of mine likes to open the fridge and not close it properly allowing room air to enter the fridge.

The fridge is also some how weird. The opening for the melted ice, water, is somehow blocked for whatever reasons I have no idea. So, if the defrost button is pushed and the defrosting process is allowed to take place, water will leak out of the fridge. This happened quite a few times.

Just today, I defrosted the fridge as the ice in the freezer is so thick..no thanks to their carelessness. This is how much ice is removed manually by hand:

Although it cant be seen, there are chunks that are about 1 inch thick.

Fluid Mechanics Presentation

Today was presentation for the Fluid Mechanics assignment. We were suppose to find the most suitable shape for a reservoir with an inclined wall.

My team was suppose to submit a report and do a presentation to the whole class. The whole class consists of 100++ students and we need to stand in front of the lecture hall to present.

That wasn't really a problem but the irony was that when we handed up our report, the lecturer stacked all the reports up and splitted them in the middle and somehow ours ended up being on the top of one of the stacks and got called to present 1st. We were hoping to not be the 1st group to present.

Everyone was very nervous as we had to present to the whole class of 100++ students but luckily everything went quite smoothly.

Phew...

CNY 2009

Ok...I know...Why so long only ONE update? Busy and lazy at the same time to blog..Muahahaha!!
Today is the last day of Chinese New Year or Chap Goh Meh(means 15th night in Hokkien) or Chinese Valentine's Day. Since it is the last day, you shall have a peek of what I had for dinner on the first few days of CNY including the reunion dinner.

Reunion Dinner

(From closest to you): Steamed fish, fried prawns, stir fried turnip & carrot mix, taufu, chap choy, black mushrooms & brocolli, chicken

1st Day of CNY

(From nearest to you): Vegetarian "gu lou yuk", chap choy, chicken, steamed prawn, (another bowl of) chap choy, stir fried cauliflower

2nd Day of CNY

(From top left): Fried "elephant ear" mushroom, vege(not sure what it is called), roasted cashew nuts, fried kailan & brocolli?(prototype dish), taufu fa and mixed vege

Not every dish was photographed those on the 4th day. It is at a restaurant in Kajang. Other dishes that was not photographed are shark fin soup, fried chicken, vegetarian dish, the restaurant's yee sang and dessert(cold longan and the biscuit).

I am not sure why my friend asked me questions related to this. I am neither a romantic person nor really experienced in this matter.

Seriously, I have never given a thought about it. Is it that important?hmm...

Well, I think that every person defines true love differently. Some might say it is like that and some might say it is like this. So, I feel that the most important thing is what you think true love is.

One of my friends said that, "We love someone because we want something from that person."
True??hmm..Perhaps. Yes, we 'love' someone because we want their money/become popular/etc. So, what if you had all the money in the world or become the most popular person in the world. Will you be happy??
Dont forget that there is such a thing called "unconditional love". This probably only exist between parents and children. They love us without expecting anything in return and want us to be successful in life.

So, what is love then? Does it really exist between two strangers? I think it can.
Ever felt when you meet that person all your problems and sorrows just kind of drains away. Doesnt matter how sad or depressed or tired, just seeing that one person seems to make all your problems go away. Even just by listening to that person's voice you feel your burden has lighten a little. And always looking forward to meeting that person.(I think I'm talking crap here...but give it a thought)

I'd say that my one and only relationship was a failure. There wasnt really anything in it so it ended after a short while. So, I hope it doesnt happen again if I ever get into another relationship..hehe..

Humans are like this:

When they have something they take it for granted thinking that is will always be there, but when they lose it they regret it.

Maybe we should count our blessings and appreciate whoever or whatever that is around us and not take anything for granted.
One thing is for sure is that if you truly love someone you will never want anything bad to happen to him/her and wish the best for him/her. I think when it comes to love..everyone is selfish..nothing can be done about that I guess..haha

Definitely the most complex part/organ of the human body. It controls the whole body consciously and unconsciously. The main part of the brain, which is the largest, is called the cerebrum. It is split into two hemispheres: left and right.

Left hemisphere:
uses logic,detail oriented, facts rule, words and language, present and past, math and science, can comprehend, knowing, acknowledges, order/pattern perception, knows object name, reality based, forms strategies, practical, safe and controls the right side of the body.

Right hemisphere:
uses feeling, “big picture” oriented, imagination rules, symbols and images, present and future, philosophy & religion, can “get it” (i.e. meaning), believes, appreciates, spatial perception, knows object function, fantasy based, presents possibilities, impetuous, risk taking and controls the left side of the body.

The two halves of the brain "communicates" via the corpus callosum. It is sort of a highway for the brain signals. Females have larger corpus callosum compared to men.

I am writing this because I Googled "brain usage" today and found out that the information I have was WRONG. The information was from the TV series Heroes(TV shows cant be trusted these days...sigh..). The information was that the human brain only utilises 10% of the brain. However, the fact is that the human brain uses more than that(close to 100% I believe).

With the results of the search I "played" with my brain a little bit. Testing whether which side of it is more dominant. Look at the image below(got from here):

If you see it spinning clockwise means you use more of your right brain. If it is anti-clockwise means left brain. The first time I looked at it it was spinning clockwise but I sort of made it spin the opposite direction as well. Next test was from this website.

Mosquitoes.....

No I do NOT like them..but they seem to "LIKE" me....no idea why...they have a grudge on me?? or my blood is delicious perhaps?? o.O||

I duno how many of these tiny lives have I taken...I just took another when writing this post..

I'm staying on the 3rd floor of this condo thinking that there wont be a lot of mosquitoes...but I was wrong..at least one will enter my room EVERYDAY...even the bathroom has mosquitoes...gosh...they/it must come when I'm studying or playing games or reading online..

The mosquito repellent that I brought is basically useless...it attracts them instead of keeping them away...are all repellents like that??...and where do they normally attack??..my LEGS!!...

How do I get rid of them??Well..by using the most traditional method..my HANDs...might hurt a little if I miss the target..in fact..I find them to be quite "intelligent"..they seem to know when I'm going to attack them and dodges my clap!!...I can only get rid of them but not keep them away...sigh..

I guess that's all for now...need to continue studying...hopefully they or another of them doesnt come to feed on me....

Beijing Olympics 2008: Closing Ceremony

As usual..superb coordination...the closing was another great show put up by the host country, China. Though it was short..only lasting 2hours, it was quite good but not as great as the opening. The best part of the show was the memory tower part. One word to describe that part...AWESOME.

However..the songs featured sounds quite weird to me..Most of the Chinese stars like Wang Lee Hom, Kelly, Jackie Chan? o.O etc, made an appearance...and..it is quite obvious that ALL of them are lip-syncing..I guess it cant be helped?..

When the athletes came out..they..er..behaved like kids..haha..All of them just cant resist the camera..

A short performance by performance from Britain was kinda strange..even the song sang by Leona Lewis was strange..Wats with all the weird/strange songs in the closing??!

Wall-E

Went and watch Wall-E today with a bunch of friends at Pavilion KL. Luckily, the only girl in this group suggested and wanted to watch it if not...duno when only I can watch it..takes a few months before DVD quality comes out, oook....

We started from uni deciding what kind of transportation to take to Pavilion. At first we decided to take the LRT/Monorail but then it was still early since we are watching the 3.20pm show so we suggested the 'very efficient' bus. After a bit of debate it was about 1 sumting already...so..we hitchhiked the course rep's car to the LRT station with taking the bus in mind. However, the decision changed the last minute back to the original LRT/monorail plan because who knows how long will it take to reach Pavillion.

Wall-E(the main character obviously) stands for Waste Allocation Load Lifter - Earth Class. In my opinion, it really is quite a cute robot especially those eyes...It is the only one left on earth...all other Wall-Es are not functioning anymore. He/It has a pet cockroach which can withstand quite a beating(still not dead even though being squished by Wall-E). Wall-E's gf...EVE(Extraterrestrial Vegetation Evaluator) was sent to earth to search for plants.Well, she/it wasnt Wall-E's gf until later la...haha..It seems that the design of EVE is inspired by Apple products..well er..seems quite like it though..

The people who created this movie really did a good job. The human character/attitude portrayed by the characters closely match real human's attitude. There is one part where Wall-E wakes up from his slumber..his attitude is exactly like humans..haha..

I think there is a hidden message in this movie...that is..the rubbish lor..

Sooo..after the movie..it was raining slightly..umbrellas up! and we made our way to the monorail station. When the monorail arrived we thought it was packed..but when we took the LRT..the LRT carriages was packed like sardines in a can!! Cant do anything about it so we boarded it anyway..and the really heavy rain came. We got of at respective stations..and it was still really raining cats and dogs..and I have to walk back from the station. No choice lor...reached home with shoes that were quite soaked..anyway..it was a great movie and I think everyone had a great time

Exhibition On Diseases

This exhibition was held today at UTAR organized by the whole Biomedical Science course(Y1 - Y3?). Although I wasnt involved in it, I would say that it was quite a success. Quite a number of people turned up for it. Surprisingly, even some lecturers or staff of the faculty came.

The diseases highlighted were genetic disease, heart disease, cancer and skin disease(?). One part of the exhibition promoted organic foods. Somehow it was the most popular among the students probably coz of the lucky draw.

PC Fair 2008

I went to PC Fair by Pikom at KLCC today with a bunch of friends. I was packed with people. REALLY packed!! Crowd control was bad. Plenty of ways in but so little exits.
Initially we were suppose to go in a group but eventually some of them turned up late so we split into two groups. I was in the group the went to KLCC first.

The LRT was like a can of sardines. At every station/stop, no one was getting down. When we reached we made our way to the exhibition area. Frankly, the exhibition that I've been in Ipoh is nothing compared what is available here.

The first booth I visited was the P1 booth. P1 is the first company to offer WiMax. WiMax is something like wireless broadband. There were so many people there so my group left the booth(or rather I left the booth) and head to the next exhibition area.

The next area is specially dedicated for sound systems. The whole hall was fill with all sorts of sound systems with heavy bass music playing at every booth. Sound systems are really not my thing and I think it is not that important part of upgrading my PC. So, after one of my buddy bought a headset we left the area.

The next area was all about computers (laptops and desktops systems). I find the most interesting part of this area was the Intel booth. They were promoting their new breed of 45nm processor. I got a free gift from the booth just by participating in the 'activity'. Collecting stamps(chop) after listening what they want to promote at each station. The free gift was...a microSD card reader...with no card... =.=||

So we moved on and met up with the other group. Not long after that my group left me with the other group.. =.=|| and we are splitted into two groups again...So we continue to the huge exhibition halls at the ground floor.

Lots of people leh....

We practically spent most of our time here and it is the most packed area. Plenty of booths and one strange thing is there are multiple booth of the same company/brand(duno why leh...).

There is this narrow passage named Hall 3. This is where a lot of people got stuck. See the pic. We got stuck here as well as the we can only exit from Halls 4 & 5.

Just to get the LRT ticket home takes a long time. The place is packed. Luckily got back to my condo before it became dark.

It was really nice but it really needs better crowd control. Everyone is packed like sardines at Hall 3. My legs are quite sore now because hardly got to sit. Literally walked the whole day. The pics are not that clear coz I dont have a proper camera and the phone camera is really bad.. =(

Uni Life

Well..uni life began like 8weeks ago aaannndd....
It is quite okay..
Guess where I went...UTAR..

So far..everything is still manageable except that ALMOST every chinese student there speaks MANDARIN as a medium of communication..sigh...

Of course new friends are made.
Sorry..no pics available..coz i dont have a camera..haiz..
