Time Lords walk among us. Two per cent of readers may be surprised to discover that they are members of an elite group with the power to perceive the geography of time.

Sci-fi fans – Anglophile ones, at least – know that the coolest aliens in the universe are Time Lords: time-travelling humanoids with the ability to understand and perceive events throughout time and space. Now it seems that people with a newly described condition have a similar, albeit lesser ability: they experience time as a spatial construct.

Synaesthesia is the condition in which the senses are mixed, so that a sound or a number has a colour, for example. In one version, thesense of touch evokes emotions.

To those variants we can now add time-space synaesthesia.

Thanks Jack, this is exactly me. Refer to one of my first posts on this blog to see why I am indeed a time lord.

I also have a Google Map brain and can rotate it in my mind, zoom in and out and figure out where I am as long as I am familiar enough with an area.

It’s been a year since my first post so I thought I would lay down some thoughts on where I started and where I am now. Why a year? I like the arbitrary mark of one circle around the sun. Also this oppressive heat reminds me of getting my car road-ready last year and sweating my ass off wondering if I had made a horrible mistake.

A year ago I set out to embrace one of my strongest desires. Travel. I knew from the beginning that this wasn’t just about taking road trips for the sake of road trips. I knew that my journeys were something a bit deeper. As far back as I can remember, my internal dialogues have flowed more smoothly while speeding along the road or sitting next to a quiet campfire. Since I had been out of a long term relationship for about a year at that point, I realized it was just going to be me and me alone for awhile. When I was in that relationship I remember the monster within demanding more time to ourselves. It became furiously loud towards the end and it took me awhile after the breakup for me to start listening…

These time lapses go out to the grumpy old man who I overheard talking about me and letting my electronic camera take photos while I talk shop with my friend. This was all said with the tone in his voice that implied that I was not enjoying the sunset properly.

Well old man, you have a thing or two to learn about my generation and how we experience sunsets a little differently than you.

Got a chance to get up to Balsam Mountain in NC this weekend. The Milky Way was pretty incredible. I have some time lapses coming up, maybe later tonight. For now, here’s my favorite shot of the milky way. You can see the entire set here.
