If you are a CableWiFi customer (Time Warner Cable, Xfinity from Comcast, Cox Communications, Bright House Networks, Optimum), you can sign in using your applicable customer credentials for free, unlimited access. For Time Warner Customers, this is called TWC ID.

The first thing to do is to make sure you are (or will be) near a TWC WiFi Hotspot. Go to coverage.twcwifi.com to see our coverage map. Follow these steps, once you are within range of TWC WiFi:

1. Open your WiFi Network settings and select one of two SSID options: TWCWiFi or TWCWiFi-Passpoint
• CableWiFi customers who are outside of their home Internet provider’s area of coverage (e.g. Xfinity, Cox, Bright House and Optimum customers in Hawaii or Time Warner Cable customers in Washington for example) would choose the CableWiFi SSID option.
2. Select the TWCWiFi SSID and open your browser to pull up the TWCWiFi sign-in portal.
• If you select the TWCWiFi-Passpoint SSID, your device’s native sign in screen will appear.
3. Log in using your TWC ID and password, accept the terms and conditions and follow the prompts to connect.
• If you are not a qualified customer, select the Guest Access tab to request a Free Trial or purchase an Access Pass.

“Visitors come and they love the outdoors, and they sit in this park, and they listen to the Royal Hawaiian Band play here, and they go to the beach across the street, but they don’t have WiFi,” said Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell. “Through a lot of hard work, we’re now going to be able to bring free WiFi to Waikiki.”

Time Warner Cable installed 40 access points throughout the Waikiki beach area, which covers Kalakaua Avenue from the Honolulu Police Station through Kapiolani Park.

“We started on this project to get Waikiki WiFi, not knowing the challenges of putting a technology like that in a beautiful, open space like the park and the beaches here,” said Mark Wong, the City & County of Honolulu’s Chief Information Officer and Department of Information Technology Director. “WiFi is something that is pretty easy to do if you have a lot of buildings to attach to, but as you can see, there’s not that much of that around here. The City could not have done this by itself. It was really a result of public-private partnerships, particularly with Time Warner Cable.”

TWC’s Senior Director of Wireless Technology Strategy, Vijay Venkateswaran, said the company was proud to partner with the city to provide the free WiFi service. “It’s a great technology,” he said. “Whether you’re using Instagram or Facebook, video chatting or just simply sending email, it’s a very easy to use service, and we’re very much glad to be a part of this.”

The City’s focus for Waikiki WiFi was not only to provide WiFi service to its visitors and citizens, but also to act as a public safety measure, particularly as it relates to ocean safety. Lifeguards will now be able to collect data and upload it to their server in real time. Citizens can access hazardous beach conditions on the Hawaii Beach Safety web site before even stepping foot on the beach.
