FINALLY 2011 is here and we have already been introduced to a new name, Ted Williams. He was just a scraggily haired man holding a sign for food on a street corner to most people who drove by him. He has now become a person in the middle of overcoming adversity, all because of a man with a video camera. I am sure by now you know the rest of the story since his video made it to YouTube. A Kraft Macaroni and Cheese commercial, a morning show radio appearance, on NBC Nightly News, the Today Show, and the list goes on …….

We opened the phones one day the week Ted Williams was “discovered” and stories began to come in from real people who had been given a 2^nd chance. These people had different backgrounds and challenges, but they all had something in common. God had given them a 2^nd chance. They all went through a journey and eventually they gave their all to God and became a Christ Follower.

On our Facebook page one very real post showed up on our wall. A young lady whose husband died just before Christmas was expressing her anger toward God for taking her husband away. She said she “HATES LIFE” and was going to live in her car with her dog and cat. This very broken woman was screaming out loud from her very core for a 2^nd chance. I didn’t know how to comment back. All I could do was share my story. I wrote “Nothing I could say will ever help heal the hurt and pain you are going through. All I know is what God has brought me through. Being an orphaned teenager living in the streets rejected by my mom and family. I hated life so much I wanted to take it and die. But, I finally gave God a chance. I gave him everything! This was over 20 years ago. There is HOPE. God sees your broken heart and can comfort and heal you.”

Something beautiful began to happen. Others started posting comments to help encourage this young lady. Some who went through tough times and overcame their adversity. We had a call from Samantha, who had also lost her husband. She was mad at God too, but now it’s three years later she has comfort and joy and God has given her a new life.

The beauty of our faith is the journey God has put us on. I continue to learn that “Through Christ I Can Do All Things!” You are an overcomer, even if you’re in the middle of the toughest time in your life. You can overcome anything.

This year I pray that through your life’s journey that you will see God present in the good and the bad. Everyone has a story to tell about their life that can help reach someone who is going down a tough road. It is you who can help them with God’s guidance to encourage and lift them up in their time of need.

Mission of Mercy to Honduras

HERE IS A SNEAK PEAK

I hope you'll join me for the HIS Radio Mission Trip to Honduras! From June 25 - July 2, you and 39 new friends will embark on an incredible journey of faith. This mission of mercy will require you to get dirty, get creative, and get spiritual. You will become the hands and feet of Jesus to children who desperately need your help.

You will be part of teams who go into the communities to do light construction work, coordinate a vacation bible school, and grow in your own faith by worshiping with and encouraging other believers. HIS Radio and Mission of Mercy are joining together to bring you this amazing opportunity to make a difference in your world and make memories you'll never forget.

By the end of this week (12/17/10) you should be able to sign up.

Here is what we're doing together on the trip.

TRIP SCHEDULE
Day 1: June 25 Depart from Atlanta/Charleston. Arrive in Tegucigalpa at 1:00pm. Go to hotel to rest and get settled in. We will eat dinner at the hotel and have the rest of the day to walk near the hotel to see a little bit of the city.

Day 2: June 26 Church! (It is Sunday after all.) Be prepared for a long service as the Hondurans love to worship. After church we will be introduced to the project where we will work and the community in which the children live.

Day 3: June 27 Work begins as we start at the ground floor building new classrooms for a project in need. We will be laying blocks to form walls and preparing the classrooms for electricity. We will each lunch at the project and then finish construction in the afternoon of the first day of work.

Day 4: June 28 Construction work continues on the classrooms. There are lots of jobs to be done for all skill levels. Never worked on a project like this? No problem, there is lots to do and we need all different kinds of people.

Day 5: June 29 Vacation Bible School – This whole day will be devoted to the children. As a team we will organize the activities and then minister to children who have never seen a Vacation Bible School. You will be amazed at how much fun they have. These children will be lifted from poverty for a day and get a chance to see God’s love in action.

Day 6: June 30 Construction work continues. On this day, if you choose to sponsor a child, you will get to meet them and their families. Bring a gift and be prepared to walk away a different person.

Day 7: July 1 After finishing our work projects and saying goodbye to the volunteers and children who have become your best friends, we will pack up and head to a place called “Valley of the Angels.” We will shop and then eat dinner at a restaurant called “La Florida.”

Day 8: July 2 We will depart the hotel at 10:00am and leave Honduras at 2:00pm. You will be back in your respective airports by late evening on the same day.

We will be building several classrooms for a project called Maranata Child Development Center. Building the classrooms for our team will involve mortaring bricks together to build the walls. Once we leave, locals will finish by installing the roof. We have been asked to build several classrooms, so we will definitely be busy. We will have local help, so people shouldn’t feel that they need certain skills to participate. The classrooms will be used for a kindergarden and primary educational program as well as meeting space for other community events.

In June we will be going on a missions trip to Honduras. I fell in love with the people of this country during a visit back in February.

I am hopeful that you'll join me on a His Radio - Mission of Mercy. Praying that 40 people will go with me in June 2011.

Here is were we're headed .....

The Maranata Child Development Center is located in the community of Divinia Providencia, a small urban town near Honduras’ capital city, Tegucigalpa. Infrastructure is somewhat limited, and intestinal problems and a lack of nutrition affect health in the community. Kindergartens are rare, and access to education, especially at the secondary level, is limited. Many adults work as day laborers, factory workers, or street vendors, but salaries are inadequate and children are often forced to work to make ends meet. Substance abuse and family disintegration are also common social concerns.

In this struggling area, the Maranata Child Development Center seeks to provide children a loving, stable environment in which they can grow and learn. Tutoring and other skill trainings, like carpentry, cooking, and sewing, are offered to encourage development. Medical care, nutritional supplements, and hygiene training help keep children healthy. Most importantly, the center seeks to spiritually nurture children through Christian education, Bible study, and prayer.

We will also be conducting a VBS (Vacation bible School) for the children from the project and the broader community. They have around 100 children in the project. We will probably plan on that many for the VBS.

Finally, we will have a day where we will be going shopping, go to a nice restaurant, and see some of the capital city, Tegucigalpa.

·         Unemployment is 70%
·         Community has many problems, mostly: extreme poverty, single parent households, drugs, gangs, child labor, malnutrition, waterborne illness, alcohol abuse, prostitution

Lesson in being Thankful.

I had a friend at a prayer breakfast challenge me to journal 5 things I'm thankful for every day for 30 days. The kicker was not to repeat anything. In a week I quickly ran out of the obvious things I can write down. The lesson I'm learning so far is to keep umy eyes open to look for those moments of thankfulness.

Amazing to see how God is really a part of everyday life. Even in the middle of tough circumstances He is present to help and I am thankful for that awesome fact.

I encourage you to take on the same challenge. Write down 5 things you're thankful for every day for the next 30 days and no repeats. It will open your eyes to how much God is a part of your life.

This Week Most End

It was a challenging week to say the least. Child in the ER, wife's tooth hurts, car breaks go, other car gets bumper damage from semi-truck tire, toilet leaking all over, and our dog needing 3k worth of surgery.

What do I do? Laugh and rest I'm God. I cannot stop the bad things from happening. But, I can control who I rely on. My faith is in God. No matter how junky the week has been.
"God shall supply my need according to His riches in Christ Jesus." God did supply the need. The dog had the knee surgery, and the breaks were fixed. God supplied the need. He never ceases to amaze me.

So, I laugh and rest in God. He does have the mess all under control.
