Some of our Star Wars Lego work is starting to go live, so guess what? We actually get to start posting images and links! We wrote and I storyboarded some SW Lego episodes that will air on Starwars.lego.com. The first one went live today, here is the link to watch it! - > Endor - Coin Toss Distraction

I'll be putting up some of the boards later.

Here is Armund Kratz fighting the TARR entity aboard his space miner. That weapon he's holding is actually a tool used for containing spills on his vessel. Heyo! I'm actually working on this thing! This is the roughs for page 1.
It basically establishes the universe and sets the scene. I'll spare you the details. Nothing worse than someone spouting off about their comic idea and the whole back story. It's like someone telling you about a dream they had. This is a comic called Stanley the Mole. He is not a Mole obviously, but he was abandoned by his parents as an infant and raised by moles, so he considers himself 100% Mole. To point out this glaring error enrages him and usually ends with the observant party being hurt in some way.

This is page one of a short 8 page origin story. Here is my first crack at it.

Place your retinas directly on the screen for best viewing. When the shapes start to refract though your tears, you are seeing it how I wish it to be seen. Otherwise you're compromising my artistic vision by just sitting there staring at it from a safe viewing distance. Now pull back those eyelids and get those damn eyeballs on the screen you uncultured heathen.

Quad-Flail Warrior Woman

Hey y'all. I was doing sketches for our collaborative project (three guys and a comic book - check it out!) and this was a character I came up with that will battle in the arena. Even though you set out to design a throw away character (the three of us had a phone con today where we discussed this...sorry, not sure why I typed that), you always end up fleshing out the character; imagining the back story. This is because in order to create a great character, throw away or otherwise, you have to delve deep and think about them as though they were an actual person/thing. This also creates a strange attachement to him/her/it and I find it a little unsettling when you remember that you created this character specifically to be killed.

Anywho, this warrior has no name yet. She's just a hulking badass female warrior that swings a four spiked-ball flail at her unfortunate opponents. She's been through many battles, receiving many scars; the most significant of which being her face, which she covers with a decorated armored mask. I picture her talking like a female Humongous from Road Warrior.

Stomz kicks a guy in the face - sketch

Hey there, just sketching to keep loose and this cama out of it. Stomz is kicking a guy with a badly designed knife in the face even though he has a gun to shoot him with....

Alien Warrior concept art

Weeelll, I decided to finalize a previous rough sketch of an alien warrior, and ended up doing another piece showing side and front views of said alien.
"For what" you ask?
Just sketching out some fodder for our heroes in our comic collaboration project. This here's unnamed armored alien warrior #1. Here is a screen cap from the new Killer Minnow logo animation. It's just a first draft, but I really like where Chris (c_conway on Twitter!) is going with it. I'll post the video once it's finished.

Killer Minnow - X-Ray vision

Here is the art of the Killer Minnow robotic skeleton, as it will be used in our new logo animation. The 3D fish will be swimming in place, then all of a sudden, scanning arcs will pass over the fish, exposing the above drawing. Chris will add other neat "glowy" effects and what not.

Killer Minnow Robotic Skeleton

It's our mascot, the Killer Minnow, without it's flesh!
I dunno, goddammit, this feels like one of those instances where the rough sketch was way better then the final execution. Maybe I looked at it too long, maybe I didn't "let it flow". I just felt like it wasn't working the whole way through. So I'm calling it done and moving on.

Stupid artist brain, why can't you just work all the time.

Stanley the Mole comic revival - The man...er dog, himself

I started a new character sketch of Stanley. I was thinking on what I said in the previous post about the style, and I decided to see if drawing a humorous scene in the style would help me see if it was appropriate.

I think I may have been thinking too much, because I think this works. What do you think?

I'll post the finished piece tomorrow night. Thanks fer lookin'!

Gallop L'Gar Palesman - Stanley the Mole Character

Howdy! Been sketching away lately, having found new energy since I've shifted my attention to another comic and this Comic Collab Check it out here project I've been working on with two very talented college friends.

Only thing is, this new comic is a comedy adventure and the style I've adopted as of late seems ill-fitting to that genre. When I drew this comic in the past, it was way more goofy and fit the tone of comedy I was going for. As I look at my recent sketches, I'm not sure I've gotten the style for this down. Although, I did want to introduce an element of a serious edge to it, only because with straight-out goofball comics, it's a bit difficult to get the reader to invest in the characters . But, these are just sketches, so no harm done.

This here is Gallop L'Gar Palesman, an old rough and tumble lad from the Northlands. He is part of Stanley's freelance adventurer group. He wears his ancestors spiritually alive skull as a belt buckle. Sometimes great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, granddad will pipe in unannounced with some tidbit of wisdom now and again.

And yes, I was too lazy to color this one.

Stanley the Mole comic revival

I am reviving an old comic that I started long ago. I had to put my other comic I was doing (Stomz) on the back burner because I was starting to burn myself out on it, and I figured drawing something else for a little while would be a welcome remedy. So far, not only am I certain it was the right decision, but I am really happy to see this old line of beloved characters coming back to life. I've really missed them and I am really excited to be drawing them again.

The comic is a fantasy/comedy adventure called Stanley the Mole which follows the exploits of a band of freelance adventurers lead by a large, muscular barbarian dog named Stanley. Stanley however, was abandoned by his parents at a young age and raised by a family of moles, so he considers himself 100% mole.

Well, this particular character sketch is not of Stanley, but one of his cohorts. A man named Vallister. He hails from a Nordic-like tribe of nomadic people in the north. He is extremely good at olde time engineering, hence the foot and a half long retractable blades on either forearm.

Sketchbook Pro trial - Mirror sketch of a spaceship.

Just downloaded the trial version of Autodesk's Sketchbook Pro, and I must say, it is really awesome. I never thought I would want to use anything other than Photoshop for drawing, but using this for 45 minutes and I'm convinced I must have it. Sketchbook Pro streamlines the process down to the functions of drawing, unlike photoshop where you find yourself having to work around it's interface to accomplish a certain look and feel of a medium. Besides the great drawing tools I had a lot of fun using the mirror draw tool and sketched out this spaceship design.

Alien Warrior for a comic crossover with Inter-dimensional hi-jinx

Me and my old bud Craig are fixing to do a comic crossover of our characters for fun. It will feature Stanley the Mole and his creation - Citrusman (check him out at www.citrusman.com) going at it in an arena fight arranged by an inter-dimensional warlord that has collected the most powerful warriors in not just the galaxy, but like, ALL the galaxies in all the dimensions! OH SNAP. I know, right?
Anyway, here's a concept sketch for a generic alien arena fighter that will undoubtedly get his ass - or whatever part of his alien anatomy dispenses feces - handed to him by one of the heroes.

Zombie comic I did for Hasbro

We finally got the ok to post something I did for Hasbro over a year ago. I am unable to post the entire comic however, so here is the cover and a single page from the comic. It was a piece used to support an idea for a line of toys. It was really one of the more fun projects I've had the pleasure of working on and it scored a bunch of continued Hasbro work for Killer Minnow. Enjoy!
