On Logo Designing

When I do logos, I don’t just think about how it would look like. For every logo, I think about how it would represent the company. I think about symbols, of possible message and communication it can deliver as a whole.

Because that’s what logos are for. It’s not just there to give familiar touch to the product or company. I want my logos to appear like if the customer would take time to look at it, he/she would read the message I tried to convey while making it.

Client + Designer = Logo

However, I’m not the sole designer. It takes a good client and a creative designer to make an outstanding logo. I ask for my client’s point of view, what he wants, what he thinks about his future logo, and then I take it from there. My touch of simplicity and brevity is just 60% of the full logo.

Learn Everyday.

In my spare time, I involve myself in a community of designers where we could compete and earn at the same time. Continuous development is what I aim for, everyday. Being in the field for more than five years, I’ve learned a special lesson: That when a designer becomes stagnant and too much confident, it spells failure in every way.

Every logo project is not just an opportunity to earn bucks. It’s an opportunity to learn more and become better over time.

There were a total of 58 entries and the contest lasted for a week. I’m so happy that I won this contest because it will surely fill in my financial needs for this month.

Aside from financial satisfaction, I’m happy coz I was able to learn new things while making the logo. Believe me, it’s fun to earn and learn at the same time, nothing beats that.

And yes, i agree it was really close, so close that one of my favorite designer and one of the best in sitepoint design contest/99designs is in the contest as well.

Imagine how glad I was when I found out that I won this one.

There was nothing else I could do but to make my own from scratch. Last year, I have found a 2008 calendar template on Adobe Exchange which I used on my previous calendar design jobs (pocket calendars and desk calendars).

Just like others who keeps sharing to help others, I hope my basic template will serve you too. I have used timeanddate.com’s calendar generator. Below is the preview of my basic 2009 calendar template. You may download it free and use it to fill your calendar designs/layouts for 2009.

Unfortunately for me, I have learned it the hard way. It was just last week when I noticed the slow response of my external hard disk. I used to to store my work files on an external hard disk so I may carry it in case I need to go out and also have it stored separately from my pc hard drives. It was my fault that I never make any check when I notice the performance of my external disk.

Last Friday, August 29, I found out that one of my current design project file is being damaged, damaged in a way that it still opened but I was not able to save it even on a new file name or a new location, it stops my pc from responding. It happen also to my other files when I tried to open them after restarting.

Having no other choice, I started redesigning my projects.

I have started a file back up and recovery. But it is hard to wait with my pc on for 24 hours only to find out that it is only 65% done on a folder of more than 2GB backed up. Too bad, I have other folder to backup which is almost of the same size. It is Monday today, and just this afternoon, I found out that the other folder has a total damaged files of almost 60%.

It is frustrating. I feel bad that i haven’t done it before. That is why I am telling you to be more careful and aware of managing your files. Do a regular check and backup your files. Though it’s too late for me now, I hope I can help you, whoever by chance read this post.
