Image Borders - Want to vary them?

Speaking of borders around images, you can vary the border's appearance - with a little 'tweak' of the Template. I found these examples on W3 Schools site (... you really should bookmark this site!)

The 'normal', or 'default' style, is 'solid'. Here's an example of another: This style is called "dashed"

So, how do you do that?

Well, the easy way is to navigate to your Layouts Template...< Edit HTML >
Then, and always, make a Back-up Copy of your Template - before and after, working on it!
Search for this section:

.post img {
padding:4px;
border:2px solid $bordercolor;
}

See where it says, solid ? Well, that's what has to be changed, to achieve the above result.
For example,

.post img {
padding:4px;
border:2px dashed $bordercolor;
}

There are more options available, too. These might be... dotted, double, groove, ridge, inset, outset.

CSS Style is up to you. Play around with it and see what you like. Remember, make back up copies of the Template - before and after, in case you need one. Don't worry if you do 'something' wrong! Think clearly and re-trace your steps. You can sometimes fix it easily - if you don't panic!

Image Border - 2 ways to make it disappear!

I've often seen questions in the Blogger Help Forum, concerning the little border around an image. Mostly, the bloggers are asking "How do I get rid of the border around my images?"

Well, most answers from the 'helpers' are uniform - "You have to do this and that to the Template".

That's NOT exactly true! Yes, it is one way, but there is also another way - on most Blog Templates!

Here's two ways to rid your blog of the image border. One easy way - which doesn't require a knowledge of the Template Codes, and the more traditional way - 'adjusting the code' on your Template.

1) How many bloggers know how to use the Fonts and Colors option on their template? Not many.
Well, if you do not like the image border, get to know your Fonts and Colors. In most templates, there is an Option for changing the Color of the Blog Border(s). This includes the Image Border, folks!

Go to the 'Customise' (Layouts)(Page Elements) Screen
Click on 'Fonts and Colors'
Search the scroll bar for 'Border Color'
Change that to the same color as the 'Blog Background Color'

Are you with me, folks? White on white, Green on green, or whatever? Can't see it, can you?

Well, it's the same with the Image Border color - if it is the same as the Blog Background, you won't see it, either. Image Border is (effectively) - GONE !

2) OK - this is where you have to be careful, because you have to enter/change code on your Template. Naturally, the first thing you do is to download a copy of the Template, before working on it.

Say, for instance, that you can't change the 'border color' on Fonts and Colors. How are you going to change the border around the images? One way is: Without removing the image border, or changing the size of it on the Template, you can also 'Change the Color' of the border, by using the Template code. That is, match it up with something else - eg:

.post img {
padding:4px;
border:2px solid $bordercolor;
}

Change that Color from $bordercolor; to, say, $titlecolor; if you just want to change the color of it.

.post img {
padding:4px;
border:2px solid $titlecolor;
}

Or, if you really do want to get rid of the border, you have to change the size code to ' 0 '. Like this:

.post img {
padding:4px;
border:2px solid $titlecolor;
}

Change the 'border:2px solid...' to 'border:0px solid...'

.post img {
padding:4px;
border:0px solid $titlecolor;
}

< SAVE TEMPLATE >

Then, make another copy of your Template, after the changes are made!

There you go, folks - easy as.

Images on Comments

I've said it before, and I've said it so many times, I'm hoarse - Get to know your Blogs, Folks!

Check out your Settings! They are, if you will, the 'Control Tower' your blog, and are responsible for a large part of it's functionality. I'll also go so far as to say, that many question threads on the Blogger Help Forum, should not be there, if the bloggers had at least a 'working knowledge' of their own blogs - namely, the Settings.

eg: 1) "How do I change the address of my blog?"
eg: 2) "How do I delete a blog?"

One that I've seen lately, is concerned with "How do I make my image appear on Comments?"

It's simple, folks. Go to your Settings - Comments. Scroll down the screen until you see the option;

"Show Profile Image on Comments?" Yes / No

Note: It's up to the owner of the blog in question, as to whether the profile images are displayed!Look at Blogger Help, too ... "How do I enable Comments on my blog?" - fancy looking there!

Click 'Yes', if that's what you want. Of course, you have to have a Profile Photo! 'Save Settings'. Done.

Disabling Right-Click

Over the last few years, bloggers with substantial interest in maintaining the integrity of their blogs, ask about protecting the content - such as Images. Here's just one example...

How do I disable the Right-Click function to stop people stealing my Images?

Well, I wrote a post on this subject, and in that post, I provided all the 'up-to-date' advice I could find on the subject - all written by the 'experts'. The unfortunate sequel to that post is, nothing has really changed. It is still relatively useless to disable the Right-Click function, and people will still find a way to copy your Images, whether you do, or not. Disabling javascript (Right-Click function) only works for your computer - not mine!

As is said, about 'locks' - "Locks are great for honest people! They are only a challenge for a crook."

What can you do, then? How do you protect your hard work, or the integrity of your property, when using the Internet?

The simplest way, is, of course, not to publish copies of your images, your precious, one-off, photos, which you alone value above all else. But, that defeats the purpose, doesn't it? Yes.

Watermarking photos is probably the one way to ensure a modicum of security for your images, but, once again, if you are not very, very careful, in using the watermark, it can be in itself, the ruin of the effect you wish to achieve. There are loads of sites where you can learn how to watermark, obtain the software for it, and read articles on it.

If you feel that someone has stolen your work - breached a copyright, Google provides a site where the guidelines for you to follow, for recourse, are displayed.

Horizontal Reference - HR - Lines

There's hundreds of styles that can be added to your posts, by using html commands. It is always worthwhile familiarising yourself with html Goodies website.

One such command is the HR Line.

The example above is the basic <hr> line command. So far, I haven't noticed any need to type the command in Upper, or Lower Case, - the editor changes the case, anyway.

HR stands for Horizontal Reference. Using the html Editor, you can put one line on your page simply by typing <hr>. These are great for enclosing quotations - instead of using colour highlights, or indentations, etc. Make your own mind up.

The reference lines can have shading, can vary in thickness, colour, and length - and, they are always centred. They can also run from the left, or from the right... - see the tutorial link - HR Lines, above.

Here's an example of three lines, using colours, and various lengths and thicknesses.

Translating your Blog

It's been rather busy around Roberto's Blogs, lately. I have a tough task-master, and he's always giving me tasks to complete.

Chuck and I have been working on the Translator Bar gadget, which you see on our blogs. It hasn't been easy, as you could imagine - we don't speak, or read, languages other than English.

Some of the problems might be words which indicate a Country, AND something else - like Turkey. When we find a translation for that word, are we getting the Country, or the animal? Well, I assure you (hope) that the former is the answer to that question.

Anyway, to cut to the chase, we now have the 54 translatable languages which are available on the Google Language Tool. The difference between that Google Tool, and the Language Translator Bar which we use, is the ability to click on your Country's flag, and translate this entire blog - not just a word, or phrase.

Chuck has been checking all the script for the applet, and making sure it works properly, and I have been resourcing and compiling the codes for languages.

It works!

Labels - Removing, or Replacing

Removing, or replacing, labels of a post, is an easy assignment - if you know what to do. The first thing to do is to is to determine which label(s) you wish to remove, or change.

You can remove, or replace labels either of two ways:

Edit the actual post directly
Use the 'Edit Posts' feature from your Dashboard

To change the label directly, either click on your Quick-Edit pencil, or select the particular post from the Post Editor, which is situated on your Dashboard - see: < Edit Posts >
Simply add, remove, or change the label in the bottom screen window, entitled "Labels for this post" -
make your changes, then 'Publish Post'.

The second way to alter labels, is to use the Post Editor:

From your Dashboard, click on < Edit Posts >

This will bring up the list of all your posts. Select the post, or, on the far left, the group of a particular label, and those posts under that labels, will appear.

You can then add, remove, change, or include another group label, to the selected label group. You can also 'Undo' what you've done, if you make a boo-boo!

There is no need to click 'Publish Selected' or 'Delete Selected' when amending the labels from the Editor.

Removing Image Borders

There's always Help Forum questions cropping up in regards to removing the little borders from posted images.

There's two ways to deal with these:

1) Ignore them, but 'tweak' your Fonts and Colors option so the borders don't show.
2) Remove them from the Template.

Image 1 shows the white border around an image. This border is 5px in size, and can, I suppose, detract from the 'look' of someone's post. It doesn't worry me, however, and I can either have it, or not. No problems.

Image 2 shows no border, but it is still there. Where did it go?

Well, I just changed the border colour on Fonts and Colors option to the same as the Blog background colour - gone, but still there! This is a great alternative for those bloggers who do NOT wish to tempt fate by messing with the Template script.

The other alternative is to edit the Template. This will be easy for those bloggers familiar with the Template, and after reading this post, easy for most bloggers - I hope!

Image 3 shows the Template section needing to be changed in order to remove the border around a post image. After downloading and saving a copy of your Template, to your computer, look for ...

.post img {
padding:4px;
border:5px solid $bordercolor;
}

*** REMEMBER - there are many sections to the Template - Header, Profile, etc, and most of them have a command for Border Images. Make sure you get the command for posts !

Image 4 shows the change has been made, and the border size has been changed to '0px'.

.post img {
padding:4px;
border:0px solid $bordercolor;
}

'Save Template'

Ignore the 'padding' command - this is the space around an image. That should stay - untouched.

Make another copy of your Blog Template !

Comments Form Message

If you wish to give instructions to your Readers / Commenters, on how to leave a comment, or what you expect from them, as far as decency is concerned, or whatever, or to tell them that you have Comments Moderation in place, you can. Simply add a Form Message to your Comments Form (box).

This is an extremely easy thing to do.

Step 1. Decide exactly what you wish to add
Step 2. Open your Settings - Comments screen and, halfway down, you'll find the 'Comments Form Message' option.
Step 3. Add your message(s). You can use various HTML styles, too, such as <b> , <i>

Of course, you have to 'Save' the Settings when you finish.

Date, and Time re-sequencing of a post

Blogger sequences all posts in the order of 'last is first', which is good, because a reader of your blog, is generally a 'surfer', in more ways than one. The last post you do will be displayed at 'the top' of your main page. It's the first one people see when they visit your blog.

If your 'casual' readers, ie; those who do not subscribe to, or know, your blog, pay a visit, they won't know what the latest post is on your blog, and will expect it to be the 'first' one they come to. If they visit your blog and see the same post at 'the top' - all the time, they'll possibly presume that you haven't posted recently, and sometimes, they'll go away, without any further effort. Not many readers will glance at the index, or archive, or labels.

I appreciate there are people out there, myself included, who post a serial-type of article (mine's Private)... say, a story, Book, or chronicle, and would like to have the posts in sequence... under the current design, there's only ONE way to achieve this - re-sequence, or change the dates and times, (if needed), manually. This means, that your latest post will appear as the 'oldest' and will have to be dated BEFORE, or PRIOR TO, the second-last post.

eg: The first post is written with, say today's date - at 12.00 noon.

In order to pre-date the next post, to keep it in sequence, all it takes is a minute's difference in time - even on the same day ... your choice!

eg: The second post is dated today's date, at 11.59 am. The third post - today's date, at 11.58 am etc.

That is the only way to achieve what you want - a chronicle of posts - in 'oldest' first sequence.

To achieve this effect, you use the 'Post Options' feature, which appears on the lower left of the Post Editor wizard... see: image (click on the image to enlarge it.)

Who knows? Maybe, one day, Blogger will give us Post Order options?

Blog Language Translation Option - Update Oct. 2009

The latest additions to the Language Bar, have increased the number of available languages to 54. The Language Tool Chuck and I are working on, has 57 Flags - which includes three (3) English to English translations - (for a future project - a Translator which is for a blog, other than one written in English, which will translate in the same way. For example, a French-base Tool, or a Spanish-base Tool. Keep watch).

Chuck and I hope to add more, as they become available through Google Language Tool interface.

** NB: For those readers who have been using this Language Translator for some time, Chuck came across a slight 'code hitch' recently. There is a small change necessary, which will make all functioning better. Click < HERE > to see his report. The following code employs the new code adjustment.

Centering the Post Title, and Date

People occasionally ask; "How do I center the Post Title and/or the Date on my posts?"

The answer is quite simple, actually. You tell the template to do it, by adding a command!

Let me show you ...

Step 1. - Open your Blog Template by clicking on the 'Layout' tab, then the 'Edit HTML' tab - OR,
Go to the 'Layout' tab from your Dashboard. Do NOT expand widgets!

Step 2. - Make a copy of your Template and save it to a folder on your computer!

Step 3. - Look for this piece of script-style, (for the Post Title) ...

How do I delete this post?

Step 1. - Click on your Dashboard.

Step 2. - Click on 'Edit Posts' of the Blog in question. Choose the post you want to delete. On the very right-hand side of the editor, is the 'delete' function option. Click it.
(This will bring up the post in deletion mode).

Step 3. - The 'final' option to delete it will show at the bottom. Click it.

That's how.

Restoring a Deleted Blog

How many times have I seen these situations in the Blogger Forum?

"Help! I deleted my blog - (accidentally, of course)!"

or,

"I want to start blogging again. I had a blog but deleted it. Why can't I get it back?"

or,

"I can't find my blog on the dashboard, anymore."

If you delete a blog, then decide you want it back again, you have two options:-

1) Restore it, yourself, before 90 days elapse from the date of deletion, or...
2) Let the Blogger team know the URL.

If it is less than 90 days after you deleted the blog, and you can restore the blog - because it still appears on your dashboard, see this post by Nitecruzr, on his blog.

If it is more than 90 days, or so, since you deleted the blog, and it does not appear on your dashboard, then you should report it on the Blogger Forum. Start a problem thread and mark it to the attention of the Blogger Employee. Either, a Blogger Employee, who scans the forum regularly, or a Blog*Star, will get some action done on restoring the blog - but ...

Note: - YOU WILL NEED TO SUPPLY THE BLOG URL !

p.s. I can't think of any sensible reason to delete a blog, anyway, but if you have to, read this again.

Blogger - Email Notification

Under the guise of 'birthday treat', Blogger has released another 'feature', or as they label it, '... the latest and greatest'. It's called 'Email Notification'.

The emails, I presume, will be sent to your 'Username ID Email' address.

You may, or may not, have noticed the notification of this notification feature at the 'top' of your Dashboard, when you signed on recently. Just 'click' on it, where it says 'Enable now', and you're connected.

Sounds OK to me, as I am always wondering what Blogger is up to and now, I will be informed.
As to exactly what I will be constantly informed about will be interesting, too. Time will tell.

Once you 'Enable' the feature, you can opt out of notifications, with the click of your mouse. Simply un-check the 'Feature announcements' box, 'Save', and "...you won't hear another word from us".

Follower - How to stop!

Since the Blogger feature, Follower, began, and I wrote an article on it, there have been a few changes to the way it operates. Slight changes though they may be, they are changes all the same. Keeping up to date with Blogger is a full-time exercise.

If you wish to 'stop' Following a blog, which you are no longer enjoying, or wanting to, the easy to follow steps are, well, as follows - (I have got to get a job!)

Also, remember, you have to be logged-on as the 'Admin' of the blog!

Step 1.

Step 4.

If you make a mistake, by doing step 4. accidentally, there is nothing to worry about. Simply start 'Following' that blog, again.

Import / Export - as a tool

Recently, the 'penny dropped' for me on how the Import / Export feature (now on Production Blogger) can be of greater service to me - and you!

Many bloggers have been caught by the Google Spam Robot because they have either posted too many posts in a 24 hrs period (still not stated as the 'real' limit, by Blogger), or for some other unknown reason. My friend, Chuck, has suggested some causes for the Robot Captcha, in his post, 'Posting At High Rates Results in Restrictions'. I followed that post with one of my own, suggesting that, by using Blogger's Import / Export feature, you could avoid the Spam Captcha, as well. Let's look at it.

By the sheer reasoning behind Import / Export, it would suggest that volumes of posts can be moved from one, or more, sources, to another. Correct? Yes. I can't think of a reason why Blogger would allow Imports to be subject to the Spam Robot and Word Captcha. Can you?

With Import / Export, a blogger can move as many posts as he/she wishes - the only problem is that you can't pick and Import the individual posts from one, or more, blogs - you have to Export an XML file of the entire blog's posts, and then Import that XML file to where you want it. Then, you have to either publish the whole lot when you Import the file, or Import the file then select which posts to Publish! With me so far? Let's look at a scenario ...

I have, say, three blogs, which I have posts on, I want to copy to a new blog. I can either;

Manually copy those posts individually (highlight, copy, paste) - slow, and fraught with risk.
Export / Import an XML file from each of the blogs, then either publish all, or select and publish. The latter would be my choice.

The other day, I Exported XML files from two blogs I have, and Imported those XML files to a new Blog I am constructing. Out of 150+ posts in total, I only wanted 100, so I manually selected and published the posts I wanted, then deleted the rest. If I had chosen to do it via option one, above, I would have invoked the displeasure (I'm sure) of the Spam Robot, and subsequently been hassled by the Captcha and had to prove my innocence - in Blogger's eyes, and own response time.

Of course, not many bloggers, like me, would be wanting to move that many posts around their account, either, but if they do, this would be the way to do it, I am sure. You can Import / Export XML files from as many blogs as you wish, too. No restrictions there.

High Volume Posting and the Robot

It is, generally, not long before my mate, Chuck, writes up a post on a technical aspect of blogging, which will assist ALL of us - thank goodness, because without bloggers with his experience and knowledge, writing posts on 'how to do something' or 'watch out for this' or 'if this happens...', I'm sure that blogging would be 'the pits', so to speak.

Chuck has just posted an article, which is close to my heart. Why is it close to my heart? Well, a long time ago, before Blogger in Draft, I got caught by the Google Robot, for copying posts, en masse, from one of my blogs, to another. Chuck suggests that the actual volume of posts in, say a 24 hrs period, is 'unstated', and it is just that - unstated, by Google/Blogger, though, I believe the number is fifty (50) in a 24 hrs period.

Now, thanks to Chuck, we know there are a few ways to avoid the Captcha imposition. I think I have found another. It's called Importing / Exporting.

A short while ago, I imported 100, or so, posts from a couple of blogs, to another and did NOT suffer from the Captcha! Although the blog I imported the posts to is currently 'Private', and soon will be made 'Public', I do NOT believe Blogger will impose the Captcha penalty on a blog that uses the Import / Export feature. Why would they?

Keep it in mind.

Finding Other Blogs

Finding other blogs, which may be of interest to you, or that you wish to subscribe to, or Follow, is as easy as!

I see this sort of question, regularly, in the Blogger Help Group - and some like this, - so regularly, in fact, that I don't answer them anymore (time for the proposer of the question thread to do some searching for themselves)!

Finding other blogs is easy - the hard bit is that there is NO easy way to find exactly what you want! You have to crack each egg to see what's in it! You have to visit each blog to check-it-out! You might like Michael Jackson - others might too, but the Michael Jackson they like, is the plumber next door, not the singer!

Let me explain...

Firstly, no-one else knows exactly what you want, or like to read - except you! So, update your Blog Profile, as I discussed in my post, Use Your Profile. Now that this feature is working, again, you can search for Blogs which have indicated a similar interest to those you added to your profile.

Secondly, don't forget to click on someone else's blog profile. If that person is a keen 'Follower', you can bet they'll have a fair few blogs which they are Following, listed at the bottom of their profile. Click on some of these to see what they are like - you may wish to subscribe to, or Follow them, too. I check out all profiles of blogs I see, to find blogs that I would like to read and/or Follow.

Thirdly, there are a few sites which list Blogs, or search blogs. I don't often use these, as I don't have the time, however, they are great resources to be aware of:

Google Blog Search - ( http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch/advanced_blog_search )
Recently Updated Blogs - ( http://www.blogger.com/changes10.g )
Blogs of Note - ( http://blogsofnote.blogspot.com/ )
Next Blog - (not accessible for those without NavBars on their Blogs)

Remember, you still have to look at each blog to assess it - and with Recently Updated Blogs, you might be doing a 'Forrest Gump' - you never know what you'll get in a box of chocolates! It could be porn.

Email Address - which characters can I use?

This question, that of; "which characters can I use to construct an email address", is a very simple one, but the overall subject of email addressing, is very complex. I won't dare to encroach on it. I will, however, try to give a basic idea of the construction of an email address, and which characters you can use, the limits of such, and also, some interesting facts. An excellent article exists in Wikipedia on this subject and is the source of information for this article. The email address is made up of two parts:

The part before the @ - is the the 'Local' part.
The part after the @ - is the 'Domain' part.

An email address can be made-up of up to 64 ASCII characters in the 'Local' part and a maximum of 255 Characters in the 'Domain' part. The 'Domain' part of the email address is pretty much restricted to the 'hostname' of the email supplier - Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc. It can vary if you have your 'own' domain name. The 'Local' part of the email address can have these ASCII characters ...

Uppercase and lowercase English letters (a-z, A-Z)
Digits 0 through 9
Characters ! # $ % & ' * + - / = ? ^ _ ` { | } ~
Character . (dot, period, full stop) provided that it is not the first or last character, and provided also that it does not appear two or more times consecutively.

This also varies somewhat, with the "domain' host. Some hosts allow certain characters and not others. The addition of 'Quoted Strings', eg: ("JS"@example.com) is also permitted, thus allowing normally prohibited characters, but it is suggested that a host expecting to have mail delivered, refrain from using these strings in the 'Local' part.

This is where it gets 'messy' and 'individual'. The Hosts can vary what they want, will allow, and will send mail to! For example, you might have a host which allows certain characters to be present in the 'Local' part of the address, but will NOT allow you to send mail to an address which has certain characters in it! For example, Hotmail will NOT allow you to re-direct email from your Hotmail account to an address with, say, dot net (.net) in the domain part. Hotmail also, as per the Wikipedia article, for example, "...only allows creation of e-mail addresses using alphanumerics, dot (.), underscore (_) and hyphen (-), and will not allow sending mail to any e-mail address containing ! # $ % * / ? | ^ { } ` ~ ".

Google accounts mail (Gmail) will normally indicate to you, if a character is NOT allowable, when you are creating your account. From memory, there are certain characters that they do NOT allow - such as; +(/)

As per this Google article, <HERE>, they don't worry about the 'period' ( . ) in email addresses. "...When you sign in to your account, you can use any configuration of dots in the 'Username' field. So, if you originally signed up for an email, such as: 'yourusername@gmail.com', you can sign in with 'your.user.name@gmail.com'." That is great, because Google only recognises variations of your original account name! Read the article! That's one good reason (among many) for using Google mail (Gmail), too.

Keep a close eye on what you can, and can't, use. If you wish to be creative, this is a must.

Username error?

A reader of mine, left me a comment (message of distress), on a post of mine, today. Once again, I feel that concern about deleting and re-creating both Blog and Email, for no good reason. Once again, I suggest - DON'T PANIC !

The comment ...

" Maxine said... I created a blog on blogger and accidentally put a . in the user name that should NOT be there. I cannot download certain things to my blog because it is not an actual e-mail address.

My question is can I create a new e-mail address and change my username on my blog to my new e-mail address. I also have another e-mail address on google but when I try to change my username to that it says it is already in use.

Am I screwed or can I change my username with a new e-mail address that is not on google or blogger"

Thank goodness she asked before acting. The 'fix' is quite simple, really, but so few bloggers understand the 'Transferring' of a blog from one ID to another. Here it is ...

In Maxine's case, she added a period (.) in her Email/Username which shouldn't have been there, when she created the Blog. All she has to do, because you can't change the Username, is to transfer the blog from the account with the wrong Username, to the account of the correct Username, then delete/remove the account with the wrong Username. Follow, so far? Good.

Steps:

Log on to the Blog (with the incorrect Username) and go to the 'Settings-Permissions' screen.
Send an 'Invitation' to the correct Username/Email account.
Log-on to that email account, and 'accept' the invitation.
Log-on to the Blog again, and go to the 'Settings-Permissions' screen and see that the correct Email/Username is now listed on the Blog - as 'Author'. Click on the Status and ... Change that status to 'Admin'.
Log-on to Blogger with the correct Username/Email account, and check that it has a 'Dashboard' of its own, showing the Blog and check that you have 'FULL' capability, ie: 'Edit Posts', 'Settings', 'Layout', 'Monetize' and that you can access the 'Permissions' screen.
Now, 'Remove' the Offending/Wrong/Incorrect Email-Username from the Permissions list.

The Blog is now transferred to the correct account.

Don't forget Blogger Help Topics when these problems occur. Do some research! Most of all - DON'T PANIC!

Making an Image Collage

Last week, I had a lot of photos from a walk through my sister's garden - snapping here and snapping there. I wanted to add them to a post on my Photo Blog, so I decided, instead of having a post, or series of posts to display all the images, to make them into a series of collages. Thus reducing the size on my blog. Easy, really, but time consuming.

I used MS Paint and MS Picture Manager (available on your Programs) and can never do without Irfanview to help me.

Plate 1. - Upload images to a folder on My Documents/My Pictures. Then, perhaps, you'll have to reduce them in size. I use MS Picture Manager. Then, I always then reduce the colour depth to around 160 pxls with Irfanview (sort of like compressing). This makes the overall collage less sizeable.

Plate 2. - I open MS Paint, and then <Ctrl O> and select the folder with the images stored. Choose the image I wish to start with, and click it. The image is then presented in the Paint window, and I can drag it to where I want it.

Plate 3. - Position the image by clicking and dragging.

Plate 4. - You can always trim and cut from each image as you work in Paint.

Plate 5. - You can even rotate images to fit in.

Plate 6. - When your images are positioned, you are ready to apply a background colour, should you wish.

Plate 7. - Once the background colour is affixed, you can also add Text, colour it, add boxes, or whatever suits you.

Plate 8. - The 'finished' collage

The benefits? The collage will not greatly reduce the overall intent of adding the images to a post, but, over time, by reducing the size taken up with Images on your Blog, you'll gain - not only from not having a post which takes forever to scroll through with 20+ images, but remember, Picasa is the Blogger Photo Host and there's a 1Gb limit!

The above images are around 5Mbs in total size. The four collage Images on my photo blog, total 770Kbs. So, over time, it counts.

NeoCounter - 2

Some of my readers may have noticed I now have a rolling counter from NeoCounter. It's shiny and new, and gives a tally of not only the number of visitors to my site, but, more importantly for me, where they came from. It's important to me because I like to know. Numbers are just that. Unless, as I have stated before, you are interested in the volume of readers (ie: Page Rank), then where visitors come from is just as important.

NeoCounter gives me that opportunity, and presents it in a nice package. They have lotsa packages, too! I know I can find out where a reader comes from, from any number of other counters, but I like the little gadget with the scrolling flags etc. I have only had it for a couple of weeks, and the end of my trial period is fast approaching. What do I do then? Nothing really, because I am NOT going to upgrade the gadget, as I am NOT going to spend €19.90 per year (A$40) for a gadget! Are they that good? I doubt it.

Things get changed, or updated, to make them better, or more streamlined. Thus was the case with Blocking a Follower. The result is the same, but the method slightly different.

To Block a Follower (for whatever reason) is as simple as:-

Go to your Dashboard
Click on 'Followers'
Click on the Image of the offending Follower
Click the option to Block
Block
Done
