One of the best things about being a Follower of blogs, is being able to click on interesting looking profile icons, and looking at which blogs they Follow. That's how you find other people's blogs. That's how I found one of the best blogs I reckon anyone could find ... The Old Geezer Blog.

I found Ron's blog that way, and greedily search my Google Reader each morning to see if he's posted anything new. Unfortunately, at present, he's on a GSBB (Geezer Summer Blog Break). How fortunate - for him! I suppose, being an ex-truckie, the call of the asphalt got to him, and Mrs G. Who knows? But, I'm sure they'll be back blogging, soon. Hope so, anyway. For me, it's as though Ron's blog has a bell around it, so I always know where it is!

Ron doesn't waste time with too much decoration. It's about the most sparsely populated blog I have seen! That, I think, is one of it's most attractive points, and one I will learn from.

Do yourself a favour, and call in to see Ron's TOGB for some light-hearted, or I should say heart-lightening posts!

This is definitely one Great Blog!

Everyday Beauty

I have a friend, Zuzu, who often visits my blog, the Report, and leaves a comment, or two. I clicked on the link to her Profile one day, and saw that Zuzu has a blog of her own, which, I must admit, is not a common occurrence with Followers. I decided to have a look.

The blog, simply named - Everyday Beauty, is a blog designed for ladies. No problem. I like to look at the photos of pretty people, luscious lips, enchanting eyes, and keep aware of beauty products - because I have two daughters!
They think I am 'kewl' because I know things! I appreciate that.

Zuzu sets out her blog in a basic, informative, and un-cluttered way, which I like, too. She is not into ads, and lots of links, either. In fact, Zuzu states what she likes, in no uncertain manner.

Zuzu also has an Everyday Beauty forum, which I'd imagine is for ladies to discuss things that interest them.

I have lots of lady Followers on various blogs, so I hope that they will have a look at Zuzu's blog.

I think it's great!

Been there, Done that.

Recently, I have been very entertained by a blog, written by a lady in Norway, whose name is Siv Maria, and her blog is Been there, done that. here's her button...

Maria's blog has stories of Norse Mythology, which I find fascinating, and some of the stars are names such as Odin, Thor, Loki, Sif Thor (Mrs Thor), Freyja and even more mysterious - Trolls! Stories from the kingdom of Åsgard have always been a draw-card for my inner child, for tales of exciting folk lore.

I suppose that's why I love reading about Greek mythology, too, although I find the Norse variety superb, and Siv Maria presents it very well. I think she is a born story teller!

Maybe you will, too.

What does 'Great Blog' mean to you?

Does it mean something like a gargantuan Google-powered monster-website with all the bells and whistles?

What about a blog which has 5 million links to all and sundry other sites, pictures everywhere, rock and roll music when you view it?

Or, does it a provide a source from which information you desire to read, photos occasionally, amusing anecdotes, perhaps, even a recipe, or ten, is conveyed?

Well, I'm sure that my readers will fit into many categories of preference, when it comes to what they think are Great Blogs. So, do I.

This blog is MY collection of blogs which I think are Great. Blogs which suit MY taste. I can only hope that some of you get to like them, too, and Follow them, or subscribe a site Feed for updates. I don't often add to my list, as I don't do a lot of 'surfing' on the 'net, however, rest assured, if I find a blog I think is worthy of association with the others on this blog, I will include it.

BTW - I hope you like my new addition - an Image-icon Tab link bar! Your blog might be one!

A Painter's Passage

I am sure that most people have an innate talent for something. Other people have a talent born of hard hours of practice, trial and error. I am also 100% convinced that some people have a God-given talent, which ranks them above, and beyond, peers in a similar realm.

To be able to portray the 'feelings', and 'character' of a person (subject) on a canvas, is, to me, truly beyond what I can understand. As you would be aware, being a reader of this blog, I have a love for visiting blogs of artistic competence.

My friend, Sharon, from the North East of the USA, is such a person - a painter. Her blog is such a blog.

Sharon presents her works on a blog, which is in one way, a canvas. In another way, it is her voice to the world. The blog is called A Painter's Passage

I have fallen in love with her works, and I am sure you will, as well. I would very much like to post a copy of one of Sharon's works, here, on this blog, and will endeavour to get her permission.

In my humble opinion, A Painter's Passage is a must-see!

I haven't had the time to search Australian blogs. I was lucky when Sue Travers, from traverselife started to Follow the Report blog. I checked her links and found her blog.

Sue is currently reviewing the various aspects of Bullying although her portfolio of training provides such a large scope.

Contemporary Realism

One of the great things about Follower is that you get to see a lot of Great Blogs! I frequently 'surf' through the Follower icons on blogs, to see what's on offer.

I've been getting regular Feeds from Jacqueline's blog, Contemporary Realism, for some months. The compilation of her own beautiful artworks, and succinct, less than lengthy posts, are an absolute pleasure to observe.

I'm an appreciator of art, though I wouldn't call myself a devotee, nor a critic. I am simply constantly amazed that someone, like Jacqueline, has such talent as to present a painting in such a way, as to make me think, it is more life-like, than the scene from a window!

Her name is Jacqueline Gnott, and she is an artist of extraordinary brilliance. She hails from Indiana, and also loves dogs, so she has to a nice person, too!

Among her blogs, Jacqueline publishes, and sells, DVDs and Books of instructional materials.

Her Gallery has to be seen to be believed.

Do yourself a favour, and visit for some Contemporary Realism!

Neem Oil Uses

Have you ever heard of NEEM OIL?

Well, until I started Following a great blog, from 'merika, I hadn't, either. The owner has the monika of "jsevenup", which I can't figure out, but hey, she can't be all bad - she loves Neil Young! Yay!

OK, so I'll call her 'J'. She has amazed me with the uses of this product, on her blog Neem Oil Uses , and it has astounded me since I became her first Follower. I am convinced that natural products are so superior to chemical-laden alternatives, that I join every blog I can, as a Follower, to 'read-up' on them. I use natural products around my bachelor pad, too! Pretty modern, eh?

J doesn't write much, but then, I would imagine she only writes when she has a new use to report - and with all the grand kids, I suppose she doesn't have too much time, either.

So, why do I Follow this blog if it doesn't post regularly? I Follow it because I am very interested in the uses of Neem Oil - and I use J's blog as a reference book, for information storage, so to speak. I know I could go to the local health food shop, and find info, but, nah - J will do me.

Interestingly, Neem Oil is great for its insect repellent properties - it's even used in India, for preventing tooth decay! I wouldn't consume Neem Oil, although it's not toxic, but, it will get rid of a lot of 'bugs', and is great for many skin problems, such as Tinea, and as a shampoo, safe for you - and your animal's skins.

Heaps of uses.

Lord Thomas, and Lady, of Wellington.

The name, 'Lord Thomas of Wellington', is somewhat grand, and the content is nostalgic, but Tom's blog is top of my list, as far as interest is concerned.

The blog contains a variety of posts on period-movies, poetry snippets, and photos from a time almost forgotten by many. For the nostalgic, like me, it's a wonderful read.

Linked to Tom's blog, is that of his wife, 'LadyCat'. You guessed it - 'Lady of Wellington', and it's a blog of classic store, as well. Well worth the visit.

It's easy to find the thread of Tom and LadyCat's interest in the arts, and classics, filtering though. Should be more of it.

A good reading experience, well worth the time, and Great Blogs.

I Follow, or Subscribe to, many blogs. Why do I? Well, the answer is simple. I like to see what other people are suggesting is good eating, how they prepare it and cook it, and to get ideas for my own kitchen. I also like to keep up to date with what's good, and bad, in my diet.

For instance, Sphinx, who comes from South Africa, writes in her blog, this blogger's healthy eating and lifestyle guide, (which I think is a Great Blog), the best ways to store eggs in the refrigerator -

"... don’t store them in the door as the continual fluctuation in temperature as you open and close the fridge can cause the shells to crack. Ideally eggs should be stored in a covered container on a lower shelf."

Now, I did not know that.

Then, taking into account Sphinx's qualifications, there's her guidelines to healthy eating - in a weekly pdf.file update. These updates include recipes, and shopping lists. Also, Sphinx can discuss different aspects of food, eg: vitamins.

This blog is well worth visiting, and/or bookmarking, as well as Following, or Subscribing to.

nyc, style & a little cannoli

Rosemary is a 'nut' for New York, a 'stickler' for Style, and 'crazy' for a little Cannoli.

One of the blogs I look forward to receiving posts from, originates in Pennsylvania, and is about lots of things, but mainly New York City. I get to see what's going on in the windows of the shops, lots of fab fotos, and the occasional crafty curios. Saves me the flight-time and cost of travel.

Rosemary's blog, nyc, style and a little cannoli, sure has an unusual name, I suppose, but it's packed with information. The posts are always different in content, although there is a thread of the creative character, running through them. Rosemary has a variety of interests from travel to tennis, U2 to me, too. yes, Rosemary is a Follower of my 'the Report' blog.

I Followed Rosemary in return, and now, I am so impressed with her that I am writing this post.

So, do yourself a favour and browse Rosemary's blog, too. It's a beauty! It takes a little time to load, but it's worth the wait.

Dungha

One source of finding interesting blogs to visit, is always to check out who Follows your blogs! It's paid dividends in my case, on many occasions.

One such blog is Dungha fotografie. I think his real name is Valeri. He is a photographer with a natural talent for the presentation of his works. I love his black and white style. It brings out the essence, and a strange bleakness, of some of his subject matter - winter.

His motto? "pasiune si atat... plec!", translates from the native Romanian, as "passion, and so ...go!"

Well worth the time to visit.

I rarely, if ever, find a blog from the list on Blogs of Note, which inspires me to greater heights, apart from the banal, "Oh, that's nice. I like the way he/she did that. Next?"

That all changed when I spent two hours marvelling at the sheer application and dedication to subject matter, required to produce this blog, which I summarily tagged 'a work of art' -

This very talented blogger, or 'curator' as he refers himself, who would suit description as academic, researcher, bibliophile and all-round compiler of this compendium of historical, factual, brain-stimulating and interesting eye-candy, is one who really deserves to be lauded, and recognised. I aim to do my bit, here, as well.

Looking through my eyes

Found another one, folks! This one is a 'must visit'.

William Moore's blog, Looking Through My Eyes, is a rare one. It's a combination of burnished talent, garnished with an appreciation of the senses. Bill has an eye for detail which extends to the aesthetic. It's a panacea for the spirit and a bonus to your day.

His talents obviously lie in the heady world of imagery. He balances his photography and presentation with a little techie magic, through an innate ability to blend the two. He doesn't use a Nokia mobile phone with a 5Mbs camera, and MSPaint, like me!

His black background is a perfect canvas.

Daisy Soap Girl

One blog I have been getting a subscription-feed from, for a long while, and forgot to write about here, is Delores' blog, Daisy Soap Girl. So, this is it.

I've always been interested in reading how craftspeople make their products, or what interests them. I always find time to read the posts from Delores. It might be a recipe, like Basil Lemon Green Tea, or Liquid Soap, or even why hand-made soap 'sweats', because of the glycerin in it. Incredible! Glycerin attracts moisture! I wasn't aware of that previously, and now I know why my skin feels so good after using it.

So, take time to visit Daisy Soap Girl blog, and perhaps Follow, or subscribe to the feed on it! It's worth your time.

Delores hasn't posted in a while, but there's still some great information available on her blog. (May, 2011).

A blog which I have had in my 'Blogroll', for simply ages, is Annie's 'blogger university' blog, strangely enough, called Blog U - creative blogging.!

As a blogger 'university', it lives up to its name. There's heaps of techie stuff there - from how to stuff about Border styles, to blog Templates and widgets. She says that she is a techie nerd, but she produces the goods, folks.

This blog is really worthwhile visiting on a regular basis, or, more sensibly, subscribe to a feed, or email updates.

Ghana Guide and Blog

Most of my readers know that I like to read blogs from far-off countries, with interesting tales, facts and scenery, presented in photos, and anecdotal fashion. "Ghana Guide and Blog" is one such blog.(It used to be "G is for Ghana!")

The blog owner, Gayle, lives in Bolga, (no, not the one in Norway), and actually needed help with a blogging concern, and found an answer on the Report, which makes me happy. I tracked her down via her profile and spent the last hour - fascinated.

This photo of an elephant crossing the road, would make me check reverse gear, but I suspect life there is unpredictable.

Well worth the visit, folks. I've added her to Great Blogs - AND, my Google Reader / Follower!

Understanding Internet Technology

Earlier this week, I wrote a post in my 'techie-style' blog, the Report, about finding other blogs. The ways and means, so to speak. If you read it, you'll understand how I came across Jim Green's blog, 'Understanding Internet Technology'.

Jim describes himself as an Entrepreneur, Traveller and Writer, although he's American and spells traveller differently to me. That's OK. It was through checking out another blog, that I came across Jim's blog. That's how it's done.

Jim writes like a techie with a blog, not a blogger with a techie itch. I like his style, his blog, and I like his subject matter - stuff that's interesting to me - a blogger. Jim writes-up subject matter which will assist me, as a blogger, to understand various things like information on new products, the vagaries of the internet and offers the benefits of his experience - what I call, 'good reading'.

Jim has recently streamlined his website into a modern, functional and very professional one. I'd recommend adding this blog to your Bookmark Reading list.

Maia T's beautiful Photography, & Paintings

Maia T is from Romania. I can't believe she is a Construction Engineer! What incongruity!

Her photography is from another, more serene level of existence. I was absolutely startled with the clarity of the images and amazed at the aspect of reflective photography, which Maia uses.

Her photography Blog is titled "Color Magic - Photography" and encompasses fantastic photos and videos. The Blog, itself, is well-presented and is not too crowded. Everything you want is there.

Maia also has her Painting Blog, "Maia's Paintings", is also well worth the time to browse. I'd like to be wealthy enough to send her a cheque, or perhaps, visit her! I could see some of her canvasses on my walls.

I've definitely got both these in my Follower's file!

Memorable Meanders

I've been a Follower of Jo's blog, Memorable Meanders, since the Following gadget was introduced. In fact, I think I was the first, or second reader, to become a Follower.

It never ceases to amaze me, how Jo continually comes up with stories about things I like to read - stories of Africa, camping trips, gardens and animals, scenery. It's a real potpourri.

Jo started off in Zimbabwe, as did another of my favourite bloggers, Lynda. Jo then lived in places like South Africa, Namibia, Mali and Guinea. Wow! Talk about experience! That in itself is worth the time to read her blog!

I thoroughly recommend Jo's blog to you, for a balanced aspect to a Purpose-Driven life.

The blog is about their wonderfully crafted, homemade and handmade 'goodies' for the household. Soaps and Salts, Oils to spoil, essences and fragrant scents galore. Now, that takes care of the ladies!

For me, I like the interesting background stories - like where 'Pink' salt comes from, or the recipe for a Natural Glass Cleaner (being a bachelor, I need these sorts of things).

Do yourself a favour, and have a look. Spend some time - maybe some money, too. Great looking blog.

'freshly baked'

I am very fortunate to have over 20 great blogs which I browse - regularly. That number has just increased.

I started 'Following' this 'freshly baked' Blog, by Emily (Georgie Tees), last week and have already set it aside as a Great Blog. Not only are the recipes grand, well prepared and looking yummy, but the blog is presented very well. I like it, already.

Now, I am not all that much into the 'fashion' stuff, the girls at 'Georgie's' blog about, but I'm sure you gals out there will be. I don't mind the dinners designed to cut down a dress-size, as I can eat them too - it's just that I won't wear a dress - for anyone!

A number 1 blog. Go for it!

Reef Check Australia

The older I get, the more sorry I am that didn't take a greater interest in the ecology of this wonderful land of Australia, and it's wonderful natural bio-diversity. It wasn't until recently, that I found this Reef Check website, either.

"Reef Check is the United Nations’ official community-based coral reef monitoring program. Reef Check Australia is a part of this global network of volunteers who regularly monitor and report on reef health."

Mother Nature's Garden Evolution

Well, I 'done' found myself another great Blog. This time, I found it via the comments section of Barbee's Blog - which is probably my favourite, (not to detract from this new one).

It's called Mother Nature's Garden Evolution, and the photographs are a reason to visit, if nothing else. Here's a sample of 'Mother' Nature's work...

For those Aussies viewing this, no, it's not a red sparrow, or a finch. It's an American songbird called the Tanager - fam: Passeriformes. Some people even suspect it is a very close relative of the Cardinal. I thought it was one!

Anyway, this is only a taste of what's in store for you in Mother Nature's Garden. Go for it!

The Life and Times of this Old Git

I have been visiting this blog, The Life and Times of this Old Git, for about 18 months.

I first got interested in it when BigBikerBob commented on one of my blogs. Bob, and his wife, Sue, get on his motorbike and tour around England, telling it like it is, and snapping some great shots. He's a mad bike rider, gardener, fisher, and caravaner. Makes for a good read.

I subscribe, and read it via Google Reader.
