New Beginnings

Every day is new. Every moment is new. Everything is constantly renewing, being born and reborn. Over time, we take this for granted. We stop seeing the magic in an ordinary day. The magic we so shared as children growing up: The birds singing in the trees. The changing clouds in a clear blue sky. The sound of an apple as you took your first bite! The smell of the rain on the wind.

Join me, one and all, and share this amazing miracle of life, this magical experience that is happening all around us, and unite in love’s presence that is the oneness of this beautiful world we all share together.

The Endless Enigma

The central challenge to understanding non duality is it is beyond words, because once it has been named, by definition—and paradoxically—a duality is created. The act of naming, fragments the oneness. Even the statement “I am one” creates a separation between “I” and “one”. I am, would be closer. I…closer still.

Jesus said: I will give you that which eye has not seen, an ear has not heard, and hand has not touched, and which has not entered into the heart of man. In the Tao te Ching, Lao Tzu says: The Tao that can be told is not the universal Tao. The name that can be named is not the universal name.

The timeless message of non duality is it is ultimately impossible to put into words. Something is a piece of everything. You can name the fragment but you cannot name the source because it takes a relative and conceptual approach and already we are separated from that which we are naming, which is everything.
As an example of this endless enigma, I will share my experience of non duality that apparently happened as I began writing a book. The book became the experience of my non duality. The Garden is a paradox and this is the nature of non duality.

First, we must understand the idea that we are not ‘someone’. Being someone is the fundamental act of separation into duality. The idea that, I am an ‘I’, an individual, separate from everything and everyone, is illusory. Nothing is separate, for everything arises from one source.

Writing The Garden was an absolute experience. Any time during the creation of its pages my identity disappeared. My sense of being an individual separate to everything else was lost. There was an expansion, a sensation of being outside of what I was. A feeling of fullness without form. No me. There was no locality of me. No outer or inner. In the infancy of the book I had no words, therefore no names or fragments. Nothing written. Just emptiness on a page. Boundlessness. Nothing and everything existing.

THE BEGINNING“Once there existed no reason for our happiness.”

So begins the first chapter of The Garden. Already there is oneness. Already there is non duality. Oneness never comes and it never goes. It is constant and absolute.

THE FIRST AWAKENING
Mind needs a purpose or a meaning so it pretends there is meaning and purpose. From oneness of being arises a concept of ‘me’. My individual self is seen as a separate part to the whole. Deep down, I remember there is a one source, a beingness of all that there is. A feeling of loss or something missing arises and so begins the sense of wanting to go back, wanting to go home, find what I have lost, and so I start to seek the oneness that I already am. Self inquiry begins: Who am I? I am awareness being aware I am awareness.

“Curiosity masked our memories of the Garden, for our daringness washed our footprints from the earth, yet our inquisitiveness was a lure that enticed us to follow. We would heed to the faint and distant voices that swayed us; they would usher and they would beckon and we stood daring to cross the bridge.”

My ‘self’ becomes the dilemma…for as long as there is seeking there is never finding. This is the bridge that divides and separates—it is a mind deception that something must be sought.

THE SLEEPING
In my seeking for what already is, I fall under the hypnotic spell of separation. And I dream the dream of duality.

“The Garden of our birth is akin to another world. Our Garden and the kingdom beyond the bridge have existed ever since the first cry of our parallel birth.”

THE DREAMING
In the dream I can never find oneness. The seeking of oneness is my dream of duality. The mind cannot fathom the enigma and the paradox it has created through separation. The mind is open to all things except becoming absent of itself. Only in the absent of self is there oneness. But I am the seeker and I must search everywhere for enlightenment. Only when I finally face my own dark night of unknowing does the self begin to realise its own futility of being separate.

“Bleakness cloaked the sky and harsh rains showered the earth, yet still the dreamer walked on, pushing through the dark night of unknowing, where finally he did come upon a precipitous path that cut into the mountainside on the far side of the kingdom.”

The seeker finally stops seeking and a veil is lifted. My journey is no more. The individual concept of ‘I’ falls away and a boundless and nameless awareness arises.

THE REAWAKENING
In the stillness and emptiness, fullness appears. From nothing comes the source of everything.

“At the far end of the bridge, back upon the well worn path, friends greeted friends and a reunion and an acquaintance did bring light to their eyes and a warm glow upon their faces. And many did greet one another as though returning home from a long and faraway journey.”

When there is no separation, there is also no seeking. When there is no seeking to become whole…there already is wholeness.

All there is is oneness. Oneness is the ordinariness of life as it is apparently happening. There is no path to oneness. Oneness is already here. The myth of enlightenment is that we must seek. But we are already here. We have always been here. We are always here and all there is is oneness.

Transcending Culture

Looking after ourselves is more than taking care of our bodies. We must also nurture thought, since our reality is created around how, and what, we think. As a man or woman thinks, so s/he is.

Where Do Thoughts Come From? Essentially, from culture. We are conditioned to ‘think’ in certain ways, through our upbringing, our education, the sciences, politics, laws, morals and customs. Our written languages, governments, religions, buildings, and artifacts are merely the products of culture.

What Exactly is Culture? Culture is the cultivation of an integrated pattern of human knowledge, belief, and behavior that depends upon the capacity for abstract thought and social learning and ‘transmitting’ this knowledge to succeeding generations. Culture is our customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group—a learning of human behaviour patterns that begins when we are born. Our upbringing, our education, the sciences, politics, monetary systems etc.—shape and colour how we see reality.
Each generation then looks for new ways to reform culture, to make a ‘change’ and ‘create a better world.’ Yet that change comes only as a reordering of the same old conditions. Have we changed? Is the world a better place—or are we just re-hacking the same old human behavioral patterns? Ideas influence our perception—the way we see and interact with the world. Always, one culture sees differently to another, and always they clash.

Culture is reforming again, into our present era, this time into an age of information and technology—creating a global culture. Now we ‘live’ in a world programmed by social media and their virtual reality devices are making us more and more desensitized to the real world. What was once a chat over the garden fence is now looking at pixels on a screen.

How is Culture Influencing Human Evolution? Culture is the interfering pattern to our biological evolution and transcendence of consciousness. Culture blocks our biological unfolding because culture is primarily based in fear and that conditions us to see the world  as a potential threat. In the world of politics—it’s every man for himself and the devil take the hindmost. Survival of the fittest. Everyone has to fight for his or her own survival. When the ship begins to sink, it’s every man for himself.

We have not transcended far from our primitive beginnings when we were hunter and gatherers and needed to live with the knowledge of survival. Thousands of years of human life have passed and all we do is create a veneer of technology over our primordial way of thinking. Instead of building a relationship with our planet and each other, we continue to kill and destroy, now more than ever before. Instead of becoming highly intelligent beings, we become highly efficient killing organisms. Computer games, television and films explicitly illustrate fear, rage, defend, attack and destroy. We turn to the news and see it all happening again and so the two realities merge. More humans have killed each other in the 20th century then in all our history put together. Now with pillaging of the earth’s resources (trees, oil, ore), the violence and destruction is turned upon the planet itself—the only home (body) we have that nurtures life in the entire solar system. We’re running out of time to save this beautiful planet. We need to change our focus and be one with the life process and stop worshiping the ‘golden calf’ products of corporate creation.

What is Transcendence? Transcendence is the ability to rise above and go beyond limitation and constraint. Nature is forever evolving and adapting to suit the changing harmony and balance of life—which means—life is forever re-evolving itself. Re-creating and refining. The inability, or rather limitation, to interact with this natural state of evolution in ourselves, causes us to become unsettled, frustrated, angry, which often times leads to violence and rage—particularly in these present days of uncertain times.

Since culture thrives on fear violence and destruction, it must continue to breed it through reforming. We remain locked inside a sequence of primitive reactions—defend, attack, destroy—which is the primitive reactions of the basic survival brain structure that nature gave us eons ago. We have not evolved too far from our primitive beginnings—even though nature has given us an innovative brain to do so. Why? Because culture is about power, pleasure and control. It rewrites and directs the great stage of biological life by keeping the human mind locked in fear.

We are biologically designed to transcend, but fear blocks the process. Evolution is programmed into our brains, yet ‘civilization’ consolidates this evolutionary pattern of change. So long as we fear, we cling to man-made ‘systems’ to keep us alive, healthy, safe and nourished. It is through fear that we submit to ‘The Establishment’, who tell us they have all the right tools to care for us, protect us from threats, heal us from diseases and feed us.

The Establishment (a word I use for the assemblage of agents of culture) endlessly intimidate us with the notion of fragility and mortality in order that we turn to ‘them’ to keep us. This is who ‘they’ are (the ones who think they know better than you). Yet they are equally threatened if we move beyond our limitations and constraints and begin to evolve as independent intelligent beings.

Culture is a control-based idea that uses fear and violence to block our evolutionary pathway. We are always being told we are under some kind of threat: a war, terrorist attack, epidemic disease, climate change. This keeps us reacting primarily from the ancient reptilian brain structure—our survival fight-or-flight system—that was made to be transcended into the greater services of the higher brain intelligence.

Prophets, such as Jesus and Buddha, have broken through this tough shell that is the container of (our?) culture. These evolved people have led the way for others to transcend to a higher state of consciousness. They teach us to go beyond our control-based conditioned thoughts, and free ourselves from the mind enslavement that is culture. Culture programs us with an artificial reality. It paints a picture in our minds. It forms a fake structure and boundary to our reality. Culture even believes it can do  better than Nature. IBM’s latest slogan: “Building a Smarter Planet”, is culture arrogantly proclaiming they can civilise Nature.

The real world lay hidden beneath this fake layer of cultural realities that are the structures, conditions and belief systems that we partake in. We live in a global virtual reality. Always at the base of culture is fear and this is what preserves the defensive survival instinct in us. We are locked in to this instinctive-survival approach to life which prevents our natural transcending abilities to move us beyond limitation and constraint. Fear, defense and attack is programmed in us. Truth, goodness, beauty and non-violence is the adaptive transcending path of awareness that we need to walk in order to catch up on Nature’s evolutionary path.

Heart consciousness is using your heart to “think” and “perceive” other than your mind. It has taken many years to be fully open in heart consciousness. I share this wisdom of life with others using homeopathy and the written word. If you ask me, “what is the meaning of life ?” I would say, “to discover the sleeping Soul in your heart, to know how to awaken it, set it free, and how to present it to the world.”

Life is energy. I have worked as a homeopath since 2000 when I graduated from the Oceanic Institute of Classical Homeopathy in Western Australia, with a Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine. Using natural vibrations of nature, I help re-tune distortions  found in the body and mind of my patients. Hundreds of my patients return to natural health within days, often expressed as, “This is the best I have ever felt”!

I write books because I believe in the power of the written word, how it can move the soul, but I write in heart consciousness. Words have unique vibrations, some vibrate on a frequency of love, and when composed within a coherent state of heart consciousness, tunes the heart and mind, balancing one with the other.
I have always known infinite love to exist, always felt its presence around me, all my life. Even as a kid, I was chasing after it, following rainbows across the sky of my imagination. Now, through many journeys over many lands, I come to find this love exists inside every one. It is by stilling the mind that you begin to experience life through the awareness of the heart. The law of love is written in your heart. Love is the only truth that awakens spiritual consciousness. Each of my books carry a theme of non duality, bridging the heart and mind that opens out to a vast panorama and greater perspective on the wisdom of  life.

The principles of the Flower of Life can also be seen in the design of buildings and architecture, as well as in art and literature. Golden proportions are to be found in music and even light. The Greeks, Romans, Egyptians and Chinese all depict golden ratio in their artwork. The Egyptians were probably the first to combine mathematics with art in the design of their pyramids. Pythagoras discovered the golden proportions of the human body and this has been portrayed by artists throughout the history of Greek art.

Leonardo De Vinci found inspiration in the mathematics of art and nature and is almost certain he painted to conform to the golden ratio—especially the proportions set out in his masterpieces, The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa.

Literature can also draw upon the golden ratio in the structure of words, sentences, paragraphs, chapters and pictures. Just as we see the existence of the spiral in our fingerprints and galaxies and in the creation of pyramids and paintings, the golden ratio also appears inside pages of a book, including the design of the cover, and this can be incredibly awe inspiring for the reader. This pattern of nature can be seen inside many art forms and has a universally stimulating effect on the mind. The path to enlightenment may even be part of this pattern—a communication that connects mind consciousness with heart consciousness.

Look at the soul as being a bridge that spans the construct of your mind across the intangible essence of all that is, gently guiding your mind to step up upon that bridge and transcend itself to a higher plane of awareness. By carefully sowing and planting the Flower of Life into words and pictures, a simple book can stimulate your consciousness as you read, to a realisation greater than itself. The Flower of Life transcends us from the physical form by which we more commonly perceive, to a spiritual awareness we call infinite love. The Flower of Life is the pattern of love itself.

Truth seekers, soul searchers, poets and prophets discover infinite love at the center of all things. When your soul spirals physical consciousness up through the Flower of Life, you blossom into love. Love is the infinite pattern of the Universe. Love is the only truth.

Our world needs to undergo an incredible transformation. We must heal our emotions and weary bodies. We must sincerely connect mind to soul, soul to love.

In my book, The Garden, I have used many sacred geometric patterns and mandalas inspired by the Flower of Life. Most cultures throughout history, from Aztec to the Celtic, have documented a significant correlation with physical form and spirituality, clearly expressed through art and sacred geometry. Beautiful mesmerizing patterns of the mandala bears ritual and spiritual significance. Psychoanalyst, Carl Jung, identified with the mandala saying it was a representation of the unconscious self and believed these patterns were a means towards wholeness in personality.

Quantum physicists now show us that the substance of reality is shaped, if not created, by our own consciousness. What realities may we create when our heart opens up like a flower and through the awakening soul, our consciousness raises to a whole new level of awareness and perception?

Both old and new worlds of thought now come together as science greets spirituality.
The Universe speaks and we ought to listen.
