RSv1 Help! Is it dead?

I pulled my son's Robosapien V1 out of the attic this morning (it's been boxed up since last xmas as he was a little young for it, but today wanted it out to start to learn how to use it), and put brand new batteries in. Pressed the power button, and after about 1 second of yawning it made a repeated bleeping/clicking noise and the eyes are flashing repeatedly. Turning it off and back on just repeats the bleeping/flashing (the bleeps are in time with the eyes flashing, about twice per second). I've tried other new batteries, same result. There's no response from the remote, but the right (RS right side) hand and foot sensors when pressed do stop the bleeping/flashing for a few seconds. I've opened up the torso and the wiring looks fine, and none of the capacitors have burst/expanded. I've tried getting RS into the diagnostic modes, but that doesn't work either. I've searched around the web and can't find any posts about anyone having the same problem. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can try? Or is it, as a I suspect, the result of a circuit board failure which has rendered it...

Goodwill RoboRapter Joins the Group

This is just another nudge that folks should keep their eyes open for robotoys in need of a good home. I found a RoboRaptor with remote at the local GoodWill for $4.99. All it needed was new batteries in its belly to join the rest of the basement bot group. It's the same place I picked up a MegaByte a couple of months ago. The bonus is that this provides a remote for one of my first WowWee finds, a remoteless RoboRaptor from several years ago. The remote I picked up this week has the targeting "laser" on it. It was great fun to set the Raptors loose, trigger the target signal, and watch them converge and push at each other to get at the spot.
