Festos Bionischen Handling-Assistenten

Festos Bionic Handling Assistant is a great, exciting robots. He is not only an eye-catcher due to its resemblance to the elephant's trunk, but its structure also makes the use and interact with it naturally and safely. To however, catching a similar way as we do with other robots, we had to overcome some hurdles: The starting point was a robot without any model, and only a simple pressure control. Piece by piece we have added a forward model of the kinematics, simulation and length control. The point was, however, machine learning, inspired by the observation of babies Goal Babbling use, above all, the surprisingly quickly learns to control the robot.

A small Japanese humanoid robot, named Kirobo, is bound for the International Space Station, where it will join the crew as "communications robot". The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and Dentsu, Inc created the Kibo Robot Project, based on a commercially available robot known as Robi. Kibo's design was created by Tomotaka Takahashi of Robo Garage. Toyota worked on the project too, providing natural language support for the bot. Apparently the "communication" the robot will be in charge of is speaking tweets sent from Earth to Japanese astronaut Koichi Wakata. Two identical robots have been made, Kirobo, who will go into space and Mirata, who will remain on Earth for PR and educational appearances. Read on to see a video of the Kibo robot on its first micro-gravity training mission.

I’ve just made a new video of MorpHex for demonstrating the rolling feature. One thing you may notice is that MorpHex rolls more or less in a curved direction instead of a straight forward direction. This is caused by the asymmetric design; the upper sphere section vs. the lower section. I’m about to get my hands on some more of those high torque servos and I’m thinking of making MorpHex more symmetrical again. Actually, that was my original plan:

A Unique Pop-up Origami Fabrication of Micro Robots

Harvard's Microrobotics Lab has created a new Pop-up Origami style of fabrication for their winged microbots. A carrier is first made out of several layers of carbon fiber, brass, and thin flexible plastic. Then, using fabrication techniques such as laser etching, a design forms and then it is popped into place in sort of a pop-up book and Origami fashion. The robot is then tack soldered to lock the design into place and then laser cut and removed from the carrier material. The Mobee or Monolithic Bee is a very tiny robot at about the size of a Quarter. The video shows this unique assembly process and the finalized Mobee's wings being tested at 1Hz and 30Hz. A must-see very impressive manufacture of winged microbots!

set two Cleverbots for a faceoff with each other. Yeah, it got a little

weird. What did you expect? It sort of went like speed dating for

chatbots. They said their hellos, then quickly began to argue with

each other like an old married couple.
