The only question was: when?   &lt;p dragover="true" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--&gt; &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;The real surprise is the &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;timeliness &lt;/span&gt;of Microsoft, which has chosen the best moment to come out.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;On &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;30 January&lt;/span&gt; Yahoo! announced a loss in the fourth quarter 2007 and the cutting of 1000 employees (out of a total of 14,300). The title of Yahoo! is at least the last four years (-46% since October 2007). The day after Terry Semel, the CEO of Yahoo!, abandone.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p dragover="true" class="MsoNormal"&gt;The &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;first February&lt;/span&gt; arrives  the OPA, precise and punctual, like a vulture that get its prey after having flying over round waiting for the right time.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;The strategy of Microsoft indicates that, also if the market is growing, &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;there's no place for many players&lt;/span&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--&gt; &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;The news is arrived in a moment in wich &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Yahoo! doesn't have the resources&lt;/span&gt; to tackle alone a very competitive market dominated by a &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;single player&lt;/span&gt;, namely Google, which is improving its position through acquisitions (&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;DoubleClick&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;YouTube &lt;/span&gt;and many others). &lt;/p&gt;This is the sign that che Microsoft has failed to make a stand to Google with its forces in terms of software and can react only with its economic power.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Microsoft until now had adopted a very conservative policy, defending its "&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;milking cows&lt;/span&gt;" (Windows and Office): near these closed applications, based on desktop platforms and operating modes off-line, proposed integrated tools into web, in a &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;PC-centric way&lt;/span&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--&gt; &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;Having understand that this was not the best strategy to become a competitive Internet company, Microsoft has chosen the path of the acquisition of companies that already have these  characteristics.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;But this &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;will not be enough&lt;/span&gt;: only whether Microsoft will be able to acquire &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;skills and attitudes&lt;/span&gt; by Yahoo! (the option without doubt most courageous), or it must adapt to the mentality of Microsoft (in which case the acquisition may not set the desired results).&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--&gt; &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;    &lt;div id="result_box" dir="ltr"&gt;Meanwhile in Mountain View are smiling: with a single blow the largest competitor is put out of the game (only if Microsoft fails to relaunch their products) and Microsoft that surrenders.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Until now Brin and Page haven't wrong a blow and with the purchase of &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;YouTube&lt;/span&gt; have also assured the leadership of &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;social network&lt;/span&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--&gt; &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;    &lt;div id="result_box" dir="ltr"&gt;The United States Department of Justice has indicated that it will monitor the supply of Microsoft for possible &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;antitrust &lt;/span&gt;implications; Yet there wasn't the first time I write this editorial: may have taken away a very useful service already existing?&lt;br /&gt;But I don't abandone, my desire to communicate don't knows barriers.&lt;br /&gt;At the end I discover that the only point of contact with the editors is within each service.&lt;br /&gt;In homepage, however, for information, comments and suggestions of a general nature ... NOTHING.&lt;br /&gt;Ok, better than 2 fingers in the eyes, but the communication should be easy, not hard.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is just one example, but don't exclude (but I hope I am wrong) that other portals of information using communication tools just functional.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Principally I see little spaces dedicated to the readers and much (riding the wave of successes like YouTube) to video, often on curiosity and pretty things on the network and not very relevant to the concept of information.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If the interpretation of web 2.0 is this, then that means I did not understand anything of this mass phenomenon. probabilly is more innovative the telematic voting in Estonia (country not of sure not to the vanguard in the technological solutions) in 2006.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The difference is that potentially could be selected also video questions of merchant of Puerto Rican origins Josè Gonzales, of Cuban emigrant Paco Juantorena, the black child of Queens Billy Joe Jackson, and sure there will be, for giving an opening idea regarding the base of the population.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Another difference is in the fact that ALL the video questions, not only those selected, are publics and accessible to anyone in the world logon to Internet, but by wide band. However it's also true that these movies will be uploaded anyway on YouTube, for the series “if you aren't able to win your enemy, make an alliance with him”.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In last analysis a first step for use of new kinds of communication also in the choice of a candidate to the guide of the greatest worldwide power. ”).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Certainly to make useful the debriefing, it must preview the participation of ALL the actors of the process, not only the team leader.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Probably this is Italian culture, because in my personal experiences I have found that in an international environment there is greater sensibility on this argument.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;However, wanting to make a parallel between these concepts and the world of the media, we can see that with the traditional media the &lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;measurement &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;concept is very very limited, while with the new media this is possible to apply.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Today it's not more possible to hide ourselves behind a finger: in the digital world of web 2.0 it is possible to measure everything, also the unthinkable one (also what that would't have to do, for example for reasons of privacy).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Could be many examples: it's not possible to know (just by a supposition, also based on the most accurate detections) with absolute certainty how many people are following one transmission or one tv spot.&lt;br /&gt;Other example: on a magazine it's possible to know how many copies have been sold but not if one particular editorial page, a particular service or a particular advertising has been seen (and when, how many times).&lt;br /&gt;Several similar examples could be made with the traditional radio, postings or other media.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This probably makes fear of those persons who don't agree the fact to be measured, to being judged directly from the consumer on the base of &lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;objective data&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;, and they offers therefore resistance to the change.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But the change is already started, is around to us, is within of us, to ignore it means to lie to ourselves and to remain isolated from the rest of the world; it means to lose opportunity of business, to lose advantage respect to the competitors.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I want to close with one citation:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;&lt;blockquote&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get&lt;br /&gt;what you've always got&lt;/span&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;W. (continue)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now we try to analyze in detail the single phases of the “&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;Cycle of Deming&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;”, specially on the more often ignored part, that is relative to the &lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;measurement&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;First of all it goes said that he is applicable to every activity, simple or complex, following the schema previously descripted.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;- “&lt;span style="font-size:130%;color:#ff0000;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Plan&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;” : establish the goals and the processes needed for obtain results compliant with the customer requirements and to the organizations policies;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- “&lt;span style="font-size:130%;color:#ff0000;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Do&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;” : implement the processes;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- “&lt;span style="font-size:130%;color:#ff0000;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Check&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;” : test the results and compare with the goals;&lt;/p&gt;It is possible to verify the correctness of the planning and the performance of the business system and of the processes through the &lt;strong&gt;MEASUREMENT&lt;/strong&gt;, that it represents the &lt;strong&gt;CONNECTION&lt;/strong&gt; between the many I want to remember the always illuminant &lt;strong&gt;Layla Pavone&lt;/strong&gt; (President IAB Italy and Managing Director di Isobar Communications), &lt;strong&gt;Mauro Lupi&lt;/strong&gt; (European coordinator SEMPO), &lt;strong&gt;Antonio Sofi&lt;/strong&gt; (Teaching University of Florence and blogger), &lt;strong&gt;Enrico Marchetto&lt;/strong&gt; (Faculty of Sciences of the Formation University of Trieste).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The large variety of the topics exposed was such to please all the requirements on these topics.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Bringing back from my notes the synthesis of the concepts more important between those exposed:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;There was been introduced the results of an inquiry called “Open Diary”, that have involved 5000 italian &lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;blogger&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; to understand how they insert themselves in the social network, with feedback sometimes unexpected.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;There was described the scene of the suppliers of the new technologies (Google, YouTube, Yahoo, NewsCorp, MySpace). &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;The companies often don't fully understand the changes: the changes are avoid or the changes are matched in the mistaken way. Through the &lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;Search Marketing&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; it's possible to understand what has in head of the people, what they are looking for, their preferences, but not always the companies want to go to collect these information.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Fragmentation of the media (thanks to the new technologies) used from the consumers.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Necessity of &lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;engagement&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; of the consumer.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Transition from programmed learnings to &lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;viral learnings&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Transition from a logic of entertainment by attention to an entertainment &lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;on-demand&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Content becomes &lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;User Generated&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Now are created new contents, languages, format, community of reference and models of business.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;It is necessary a deep knowledge of the consumers and their habits, following dynamical logics. There must be a continuous &lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;feedback&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; in order to analyze and to manage strategically the incoming data.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;It's important to be find from the “niche consumers” (concept of the &lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;Long Tail&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; of Chris Anderson) because all together constitute one important market share; the niche markets can exactly prosper thanks to the new technologies. Important then is to use the &lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;Web Analytics&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; to discover information hidden in the long tail.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;The diffusion of the &lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;Wide Band&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; is fundamental for using new media.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Through the &lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;User Media Generated&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; the consumer is not simpler user but from target she becomes coauthor and partner too. The companies must understand as they can make marketing and generate business taking advantage from these new kind of communication, from sharing of contents, from on-line experiences.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;It must use the web in order to acquire suggestions on the new products, what that instead the traditional marketing refuse because it see as an interference to it in the own comparisons from part of the consumer.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Concepts of &lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;non-conventional Marketing&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;: word-of-mouth, "buzz" effect, guerrilla marketing.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Opportunities offered from &lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;Second Life&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;, that is a creative environment and being involved through the creation of objects. The companies that enter in this virtual world make it for a mediathic return, or in alternative for a return strategic for just the productive cycle and in order to develop the own communication.
