I am currently tracing my little known family history. If anyone has any knowledge about Mr. and Mrs. Oscar & Estella Jones who were residents of Rochelle, La please contact me @ cjjonesinc@yahoo.com.

Also, does anyone know what the old mill town formerly know as Rochelle is now called? Is it just considered Georgetown or renamed??? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Selma School photo 1921

I received this request. If anyone knows the answer please comment. I have also atatched the best copy I have of that photo.

I saw a 1921 picture on this site of Selma School. My mother Grace Madeline Morris Jordan was born in Selma in 1912. One of the children in the picture of Mrs. Ursery\’s class looks like my mother. Mr. Durwood Gammill donated the picture in 1983 to Georgetown High School. I went to their reunion, but no one could help me locate the picture. It may have some names on the back of it. Someone else may have a copy of the picture. Please post this and see if anyone knows anything about the picture. My mother is now deceased. I would love to identify her in thepicture. Thanks.

We are currently seeking names and comments from people who once lived at Rochelle. Thie saw mill town was once located on the MOP railroad near Georgetown, LA., about 40 miles north of Alexandria, LA and 60 miles south of Monroe, LA. The mille closed in 1945 and reopened at Joyce ,La., near Winnfield, LA.

Rochelle Relics

I’m not sure if anyone here will be interested in this or not, but me and a friend of mine are just getting into metal detecting. His father was raised in Rochelle (Mr. Jennings). We are planning an excursion to the Rochelle site to see what type of relics we might be able to find left over from the old mill. Whatever we find (if anyone is interested) we would be glad to post pictures of on this site.

The old black cemetery is located on the right side of us 165 at what was the back of the mill.

Do you remember the saw mill at Rochelle, La?
It shut down in 1945 and moved to Joyce, LA.
There was a school and three churches, Baptist, Methodist, and Catholic.
