Photographing the St Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, I was pleasantly surprised to see this float from Fabulous Flowers called the “Fabulous Doors of Dublin” with young kids peering out from various “windows”. I followed the float to get as many little faces in the windows as I could. It was my favorite picture from the day.

Truck Stuck - 3/12/10 - photo by Tina Yee

I usually enjoy shooting sports as I don’t do it very often and it allows me to just react to what is happening in front of me. I decided to try shooting the girls basket ball Class AA final at Gates Chili HS with a 300 mm lens, which is longer than I would normally use. That choice paid off when Greece Arcadia’s #33 Jessica Sexton, bottom, went down hard as Aquinas’ #1 Teja Reaves, left, and #24 Clair Riley, right, fought her for possession of the ball. Sexton was OK and Arcadia won 60 -55.

Winners and losers - 03/03/10 - Photo by Annette Lein

While waiting for an 8pm basketball game to start at Letchworth High School Wednesday night, I was watching the exciting end to the previous game. The Fillmore Eagles beat the Prattsburgh Vikings in OT. At the end one of the stars of the game for Fillmore, #33 Dylan Smith was greeted by his girlfriend with a kiss as one of the losing players from Prattsburgh walked by looking rather unhappy. I thought it was a nice juxtaposition of emotion from the game.

Sign of the Times - 3/3/10 - photo by Tina Yee

I am sent to the scene of a rollover and I get there just as they start to move a person on a stretcher to the ambulance. What do I see but the person using their mobile device. It looked so strange especially in light of the flipped car . I guess it’s the sign of the times because this is about the third or fourth time I’ve seen someone carted away on a stretcher with a cell phone attached to their ear.

A Taste of Snow - 02/26/10 - photo by Will Yurman

I’ve been working on a story on the Beckwith/Cohen family in the upcoming production of Peter Pan by Rochester Children’s Theatre. Jodi Beckwith is playing Peter, her husband Stefan Cohen is Captain Hook and their two kids, Ethan and Tali, are a pirate and Lost Boy respectively. Sunday night all four were at rehearsal and Tali was backstage with the other Lost Boys watching Captain Hook and the pirates plot on stage.

Cuddle Time - 2/20/10 - photo by Tina Yee

The Friends of the Rochester Public Library arranged for Therapy Dogs in the “Tail Waggin’ Tutors” program, to come and have kids read to them at the library on Thursday afternoon. Largo was extremely sweet and patient with the young readers.

Long Pond hockey - 02/17/2010 - Photo by Annette Lein

I went to photograph the Jump Rope for Heart at French Road Elementary School. It may be my fourth time photographing the event where fifth graders raise money for the American Heart Association. It’s a gymnasium full of kids jumping rope and playing and having fun and a bit overwhelming at first as you look around for a good photo. I usually spend the first few minutes at these kinds of events just looking around, trying to figure out who to focus on and what to shoot. Sam Ravina was so full of energy and excitement he was hard to miss, and easy to photograph.

Fish - 02/08/10 - Photo by Jen Rynda

I spent Sunday afternoon at the Jewish Community Center during their annual “Purim Palooza” celebration. Purim commemorates the victory of the Jews over the evil Haman who sought to slay the Jews of ancient Persia. On this special day children and adults often dress up in their favorite costumes. The room was full of adorable kids making crafts related to Purim, so there were many photos to be made. I had fun watching Michael Brodsky, age 6, of Pittsford, who was just wearing large glasses as his Purim costume and making an amusing picture for me.
