As part of our first pop-up store, we'll be selling the signature printed men's shorts that Rock Atoll is known for, but we'll also be selling men's boxers shorts, as well as a number of items not yet available in our online store: men's shirts! 

We've got the guys covered, but we've heard a lot of feedback that we should be offering women's clothes. Never fear! We've taken steps to make sure that we have fun items for the ladies in attendance, too. Rock Atoll will be bringing along our own brand of women's dresses and shirts. 

We're also very happy to be teaming up with women's yoga and fitness apparel brand Rising Lotus to take our location's women's wear options to the next level!

"What else is there to do there," you ask? There's a whole freaking beach sports festival, pal! Since 2011, the Hong Kong Beach 5s has been taking place on Repulse Bay Beach each year. In this sandy arena, competitors from the worlds of 5-on-5 Rugby, Football, Volleyball, Dodgeball and Netball have met to best one another for the sake of glory and prizes. This family-friendly event features great sports, good food, live music, shopping and good old fashioned fun in the sun.

You may also realize that the first day of the Beach 5s is St. Patrick's Day. Well, Repulse Bay Beach is the place to be to kick it off. That's because the event will have beer pong tables on hand to help you celebrate your St. Paddy's Day in the Beach 5s spirit: with libations and competition! 

If you plan on getting your pong on, and even if you're not, stop by Rock Atoll's tent first to take a practice pong shot. It doesn't cost anything, but can get you a discount on a Rock Atoll purchase, or even a FREE pair of boxer shorts!

We’ve been familiarizing ourselves with some of the most illustrious and well respected men's fashion personalities on YouTube, and here’s a newsflash: They’re not all men! One such pundit is Ms. Ashley Weston, a contributing editor for GQ magazine, and well known Men’s Style Expert.

Upon checking out Ashley’s channel, we found a video titled “The 21 Things Men Should NEVER Wear”. (Wow. Never? Only a Sith deals in absolutes, Ashley. And, yes, we realize that statement itself is an absolute, but don’t question Obi Wan!)

Then, we found a follow up video from Ashley that added 10 more items to the list of things that men should NEVER wear. As a result, we have a total of 31 things that Ashley says men should NEVER wear.

So, as people that haven’t’ really been into fashion for very long, we thought we’d sift through the list and see if we agree with the items in question. Feel free to check out the videos above and follow along with our list below point-by-point, or all at once. Then, at the end, we’ll see if there are any interesting conclusions we can draw from Ms. Weston’s list. Let’s begin!

Ashley Weston’s 31 Things Men Should NEVER Wear:

Clearly we don’t agree with absolutely every point that Ashley Weston has made in her videos on which things men should NEVER wear, but she also hits the nail on the head in many cases.

The #1 thing that we at Rock Atoll would like to point out about her list is that printed shorts are totally good to go! In fact, we believe that the era of bold prints being used in men’s shorts is just beginning, so we’ll not be seeing them mentioned in lists like this for a long time to come.

If you agree with us, we hope you’ll take a moment to check out the shorts in our store. We’re not saying that our shorts are something that you should ALWAYS wear, but we wouldn’t argue against it. 😬

In my mind anyone at school or elsewhere that bothered to follow what I was wearing each day could get some insight into my thoughts, likes, ideals, and desires. They could see things about me on my shirts that could normally never be known to a stranger. My t-shirts were the world’s window into my soul, and I would not stand for just putting some polo shirt with horizontal stripes on my upper half, because that said nothing about me.

(Before: Baggie shirts. Baggie pants. No style below the waist, I assure you.)

My staunch belief in this led me to become a bit of shirt snob, if I'm being honest. The type that would look gift horses in the mouth, so to speak. I received gifts of clothing from time to time that I would turn my nose up at. (Sincere apologies to all my relatives that experienced this.) And the craziest thing is that these clothes that I was so down on were actually quite classy, and really could have updated my look. My relatives were trying to do my personal style a favor. However, I was just addicted to the ‘scrub’ look that sweet graphic tees were producing at the time (Which was mostly okay. It was the era of grunge, after all.), and I would scoff at the idea of wearing anything else.

Meanwhile, when it came to the bottoms that I would pair my tees with, what I came up with was far from inspiring. For most of my life I just didn’t care about fashion below the waist. It was always just so easy to slap on a pair of jeans or cargo shorts with just about anything on top. Why was this the case? Well, I think it was mostly because I felt that I was saying something with my shirt that I could not with my shorts or pants. I could just let my torso represent me and who I was, so beyond that nothing really mattered. I was content to live the lie that people would just focus on the cool t-shirt I would have perfectly selected for the occasion, and be more connected with the real me as a result. ....Right?

(Now: Refreshed. Revitalized. Always bringing the positive vibes!)

As it turns out, I was delusional. I was content living inside the fantasy that my shirts were the only things that mattered, when this couldn’t be further from the truth. Well, my friends, I have now seen the light! Some time ago I recognized a simple, yet universal, truth that men around the world need to realize: If you truly want to express yourself, you have to do it with your whole outfit! Bottoms included.

As we approach 2020, it seems that men around the world, whether white or blue collar, are realizing that we can be fashionable too. We don’t have to be those graphic tee guys anymore, and we can step our style game up by taking simple steps with regards to the way we purchase and wear our clothes. Our eyes are opening to a brand new, exciting, nigh-boundless, topsy-turvy world where we can express ourselves with our shorts or trousers.

This is why Rock Atoll was created. While we will be diversifying our offerings in the future, we started out with the idea that men's shorts don’t have to be boring, monotone items. Rock Atoll wants to flip the script and allow men to show the world their fun side with their shorts. If you know you’re a bit different on the inside, or just someone who is as bold as you wanna be, Rock Atoll is working to provide you with clothing that will let people know that in new ways.

I mean, how many people are going to show up to BBQs this year in shorts covered in sharks, or pineapples, or toucans, or dragons, or just a bright and vibrant pattern? Not many yet, but this is a style that we feel can, should, and will take off and become part of mainstream men's fashion. In the meantime, you can be the trendsetter and the conversation starter. You can express yourself in a new way. You can greet the world each day with feelings of fun and confidence. That’s what Rock Atoll is all about.

What’s that you say? “R.A.C., it’s friggin’ cold outside! Why in the heck would we want shorts for Christmas?” Well, here are a few reasons we can think of:

• When else is someone going to give shorts as a gift? Are you really going to give Earth Day shorts? Unlikely! (Though we will have shorts for sale on Earth Day too 😂)
• Do you live in Oz, New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina, Chile or any other spots where the toilet water spins the wrong way? It’s summertime! Carry on, mate!
• Do you live on the equator or maybe somewhere like Costa Rica, Hawaii, Singapore, the Caribbean, or other lovely equatorial areas? Good news! You can wear shorts year round!
• Even if you live in a snow-covered locale, don’t worry that they won’t use your gift right away. People will have plenty of other toys to play with. Then when spring rolls around, BAM! They’ll be reminded of your lovely gift, while all of the ones they got in December will be old news. They’ll probably even send you another thank you message! Sweet!
• Come on. You know somebody’s going to invite you to some sort of luau-themed winter party. What’s more, you’re definitely going to want too have the coolest shorts there, bruh. Turns out we have some pretty slick prints in our shop ready for you perusal!
• If you’re bold enough, you can even rock layers on the bottom. We’ve all seen the classic ‘long sleeved t-shirt under short sleeved t-shirt’ combo, and Rock Atoll thinks it’s high time for the ‘trousers under shorts’ look to take off. Be on the forefront of this hot new style and be a trendsetter!

If you’ve had a look at the shorts in our store, you’ve no doubt seen the array of fresh and funky patterns that Rock Atoll offers, Maybe you’ve even been on the fence about buying a pair of them. Well, we’ll tell you one thing, now is the time to pull the trigger on purchasing our shorts, and we ain’t kiddin’!

This is because many of the prints that we receive come in very low supply. For example, in our first run of mens shorts,  our Can Do-can print only has about 50 total pairs available! Crazy right? But guess what? That just means that if you are one of those 50 people, you are one of an elite group of individuals that now has access to some of the coolest shorts ever conceived! (At least in this writer’s opinion.)

So why do we do this? Well, at Rock Atoll we like to keep things fresh, so we want to make our model all about producing regular-but-limited runs of the shorts we have. That way, there will be more of the fun, crazy, sunny, or striking shorts that you are looking for available to you on a more regular basis.

Our styles are so varied that we know there may not be anyone that likes them all, but we are confident that each run will have at least one style that appeals to every man out there. (Unless you just don’t wear shorts. In which case, lose our number, weirdo.) That’s why we are going to be pumping out these puppies like nobody’s business! Not only do we want there to be fresh styles when you check the store, we also want to be able to announce to our followers, fans and members of the Rock Atoll Crew out there that we have a new batch of sweet ass shorts in.
