I wanted to send out this post to let everyone know that 2011 marks R.O.C.’s 20th anniversary as a band. Yep… 20 years ago in June of 1991, I got together with bass player Kerry Brown and drummer Larry Boals to jam and form the band that would be become R.O.C. We later added an old friend Kerry Hamby on keyboards. In Nov of 1991 before we had the chance to play our first concert out, our drummer Larry Boals had to leave the band due to time constraints put on him by his job and family.

I asked a good friend of mine, Ronnie Schuman that I had worked with in a previous band to come play drums. I also invited another previous bandmate Keith Bailey to be our front man and lead vocalist. Keith also came up with the name “R.O.C.” (Rock Of Christ) for the band.
In April of 1992 we played our first concert at Salem Baptist Church in McDonough for a youth event.

Over the years, the band’s active member roster has changed many times. Kenny Sirmans, Kerry Brown, Doyle Gentry, Neil Morris, Chris Cox, Brent Kitchens, Woodrow Morgan and Ron Smith have all played (or are still playing) with R.O.C. Kenny’s brother Mike Sirmans was asked to help run the sound for us in 1997 and has been our sound man and technical support guy ever since. I am the only founding member of R.O.C. still here after all these many years.

I was just 36 years old when we started ROC and now I am 57 years old. I guess I will continue to “ROC ’til I Drop” for Jesus! We thank all of you “ROC HEADS” for your continued support over the years and we are looking forward to seeing you all at our concerts this year! Keep checking our website concert calendar for up coming events. If any of you have opportunities for R.O.C. to perform, please contact us! We will be more than happy to help make your event every success that it can be.

Thanks and God Bless You All,
Gary K.
