Bench Production: The bench scored 66 points — led by Chase Budinger — who had a season-high 22 points (7-14 FG, 4-8 3PT, 4-4 FT). Courtney Lee had 16 points on 4-5 from three-point land. Patrick Patterson scored 11 points and hauled seven rebounds (three offensive). Goran Dragic put up 10 points and snagged four steals.

Air Bud: In the past six games in which Budinger has registered at least 21 minutes of action, he has tallied at least 12 points — including a trio of contests of at least 19 points.

Lowry Update: Rockets’ medical staff officially labeled Kyle Lowry’s injury a “strained right elbow.”

Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey regrets letting go of New York Knicks point guard sensation Jeremy Lin.

“We should have kept (Jeremy Lin). Did not know he was this good,” Morey wrote on his official Twitter account on Thursday. “Anyone who says they knew misleading U.”

In a separate tweet, Morey praised Lin, writing “Finally, really happy for (Lin). Very hard working, nice, & humble. He has a great, great future.”

HOUSTON – Houston will once again play host to a constellation of the world’s brightest stars as it has been selected as the site of NBA All-Star 2013, the NBA announced today.

The 62nd NBA All-Star Game will be played on Sunday, Feb. 17, at the Toyota Center, which will also host the NBA Rising Stars Challenge and NBA All-Star Saturday Night presented by State Farm. NBA All-Star Jam Session, the hugely successful interactive basketball celebration, will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

“Houston is a spectacular sports city, and for one week it will be the basketball capital of the world,” said NBA Commissioner David Stern. “NBA All-Star is a magnificent celebration of our game, and I want to thank the city and the Rockets for welcoming us once again.”

The 2013 game will mark the third NBA All-Star celebration in Houston. The city also hosted the event in 1989 and in 2006.

UPDATE: Smith signed to the active roster — Adrien released from the team.

The Rockets have agreed to sign rookie center Greg Smith from the NBA’s D-League, tweets Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

The team will need to clear a roster space for Smith, meaning Jeff Adrien, who’s on a non-guaranteed contract, could be cut.

Smith, 21, had averaged 16.8 points, 8.3 rebounds and 67.7% shooting in 18 D-League games this season. The 6-foot-10, 260-pound Fresno State product was drawing interest from around the league, Feigen adds.

Chandler Parsons, Rockets

Having to beat out lottery pick and All-American Marcus Morris for a spot in the rotation was a tough enough task for Parsons, who was largely an underachiever for most of his career at Florida. As a second-round pick, just getting a spot on the team was not even assured. But after arriving at camp, Parsons was not only good enough for the Rockets to send Morris to the D-League, but he started pressing starter Chase Budinger for playing time. Then he took that starting spot by playing good defense, hustling, making enough shots, finding opportunities to attack the rim on the offensive glass and just generally being a better player than Budinger.

At 6-foot-10, Parsons gives the Rockets the size they often need on defense. When he matched up with Kevin Durant in Oklahoma City, Durant scored a lot of points, but Parsons fought him every step of the way, something he didn’t always do in college. If he brings it every night in the NBA, he’s going to be a tough player to replace in the starting lineup.

Marcus Morris: In three games before an ankle injury, the rookie first-round draft pick averaged 29.7 points on 49.3 percent shooting and 12.3 rebounds for the Rockets’ NBDL team.

Parsons Stats: The former Gator standout is averaging 7.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 steals in 23.5 minutes per game in 11 starts.

“I was a little surprised,” Bradbury said of the Rockets’ decision. “His body of work this year in my opinion would merit picking up his option, but at the same time the way (Rockets general manager) Daryl (Morey) explained it, they’re trying to clear all of the cap space they can to go after a max contract.

The Arizona alum did not play in last night’s 105-99 loss to Milwaukee.

The Houston Rockets declined to exercise the fourth-year options on former first-round draft picks Hasheem Thabeet, Terrence Williams and Jonny Flynn on Wednesday Jan. 25, making all three players unrestricted free agents at the end of the season.

None of the three players were originally drafted by Houston, but the Rockets front office elected to gamble on all three to see if a second chance would redeem their NBA careers.

It is still unsure if Jordan Hill, another first-rounder from the ’09 NBA Draft, will be kept.
