Basic CSS Implementation and Positioning

<img class="mag-preview" Understanding the how CSS works is essential when working on a website. As a forum moderator, I find many questions relating to simple CSS adjustments and how to perform them. In many cases, the answer is a single line of CSS applied in exactly the right spot. While Rocket Theme templates come with a ton of professionally designed CSS that covers all the heavy lifting, customizing a template often requires adding new CSS that is specific to the situation. If you're new to CSS, you may not know where to start. We'll go over some basic CSS concepts that relate to implementation, selectors and positioning concepts.

Joomla’s ACL for Mission Control - Part 2

In part 1 we created role-based groups and access levels to control what admin modules are displayed to any given backend user. In part two we expand our use of the ACL to limit what Joomla extensions can be accessed and used. We accomplish this by establishing a set of groups that represent sibling roles in the backend. This role-based approach, a departure from the old ACL model, leverages the new capabilities of 2.5's ACL.

As a web designer who specializes in using Joomla, I get a lot of inquiries regarding the editing of articles. Joomla comes with a WYSIWYG editor installed, this is called TinyMCE. My personal choice of editor is JCE, which stands for Joomla Content Editor and is free. Having a good editor is one of the key points to having fewer display problems with your website. This article is just a basic guide to using a powerful WYSIWYG editor to help you get best layouts from your content.

Working as a forum moderator here I often see members’ posts asking how to publish modules on a page that doesn’t exist in the Joomla menu structure or how to publish modules just on a certain page of a specific extension. Answers to those kinds of questions can be very long and somehow frustrating to the end users since many of those users are often beginners in Joomla world.

Using Magento's Widgets and Static Blocks

Magento can be pretty daunting when starting out. There's an awful lot of files to trawl through when hunting down bits of code, and it takes quite a while to get to know how it all works together.

So - when it comes to adding additional content - it would be great if you could avoid worrying about the file structure completely, and add everything through the admin. Luckily, since version 1.4, that's entirely possible, thanks to Magento's Widgets.

An Introduction to CSS3 Gradients and Multiple Backgrounds

Background images are usually the largest in any web design, both in terms of dimensions and file size. Some are several hundred pixels across, and they're usually part of every page of the website. If you reduce the image quality of your background imagery too far, you end up with gritty, pixelated backgrounds across your entire site. Conversely, if you upgrade the image quality of your background images even slightly, their file size grows tremendously, causing the designer to pay dearly for sharp backgrounds at the cost of hundreds of kilobytes. Because background images are so large and prominent, designers are frequently fighting this battle between a slow-but-sharp-looking design and a lightweight, fast-loading website with less-than-perfect images.
