In addition to these accomplishments, Peng earned a perfect score of 800 on the math section of the SAT when he took the exam alongside of high school students earlier this school year. As a 12-year-old student, Peng has a gift for math.

Lisa Smarr, math teacher and math contest cub sponsor, described Peng as a driven student who often challenges himself by completing math problems from various math contests and books. “Alan is very focused on his math skills and he is able to do most of the problems quickly in his head,” said Smarr. “He has a special talent for math and we are proud of what he has accomplished.”

Next year, Peng plans to take calculus for college credit. Smarr said she’s helped connect him with college professors that take math teams to contests and international competitions. “Hopefully we can continue to challenge him and guide him as he strengthens his skills.”

On May 16, Peng will be recognized for his academic achievements at the Board of Education Awards Ceremony.

Congratulations, Alan!
