1. Marlene Dietrich (actress)-Ate a sardine and onion sandwich on rye to sleep at night.
3. W.C. Fields (actor)-Sometimes, he could only fall asleep under a beach umbrella that was sprinkled with a garden hose.
4. Alexandre Dumas (author)-He took late-night strolls to cure his insomnia.
7. Franz Kafka (author)-From his journal dated October 2, 1911, “Sleepless night. The third in a row. I fall asleep soundly, but after an hour I wake up, as though I had laid my head in the wrong hole.”
8. Theodore Roosevelt (U.S. President)-He would take a shot of cognac in a glass of milk.
9. Groucho Marx (comic actor)-On his sleepless nights, he would call people up in the middle of the night and insult them.
10. Mark Twain (author)-When he was staying as a guest at a friend’s house, he threw a pillow out of the window. He was able to finally fall asleep once the crash let in what he thought was enough fresh air. In the morning he found out that he had broken a glass-enclosed bookcase.

More and more people are becoming aware of latex mattresses. These mattresses are extremely popular because of their comfort and support. Many people around the world admit that latex mattresses are the most comfortable mattress on the market today.

Latex mattresses are made naturally from the sap of rubber trees. The rubber is usually whipped to create a foam-like substance. The foam is then poured into a mold to cure. The Talalay process uses a vacuum and rods to remove all of the air bubbles, distribute the material evenly throughout the mold and to lock in the consistency. The Dunlop process does not use the vacuum or freezing processes but does steam the mold to cure the material. Either way, latex mattresses are durable, natural, comfortable and supportive.

Latex mattresses are probably the best option for heavier individuals. Innerspring mattresses wear down quickly with heavier weight, which leads to coils and springs poking the individual all night long. Memory foam mattresses could be a better option. However, the more weight that is added, the faster memory foam will break down as well. Memory foam loses its characteristics and benefits once it is broken down. Instead of being supportive and long-lasting, memory foam can sag once it is broken down.

Latex mattresses are the best option for heavier individuals because of many reasons. Latex mattresses come with a stronger core than traditional mattresses. They are also much more durable than other mattresses. The typical life of a traditional mattress is between 5-7 years. The typical life of a latex mattress is 20+ years. Latex mattresses incorporate all of the benefits of memory foam mattresses, without any of the cons. Latex mattresses are more breathable and do not come with a disturbing odor the way memory foam mattresses do.

If you need a more durable mattress or want one that will support the entire weight of your body, you need to try a latex mattress. Latex mattresses are the only good option for heavier individuals.

How much did you spend on your current mattress. What is the most you have ever spent on a mattress? Can you imagine spending thousands and thousands on a mattress?
Let’s take a look at the 5 most expensive mattresses/beds…ever.

1. Janjaap Ruijssenaars Floating Bed. The Millionaire Fair in Kortrijk, Belgium hosts extravagant products from all over the world. Dutch architect Janjaap Ruijssenaar recently unveiled his floating bed. His goal was to create a usable product that didn’t use the standard laws of gravity. This floating bed uses magnetism to keep it suspended in mid air. The bed uses opposing magnets (obviously the magnets have to be industrial strength). The magnets allow the bed to float 40 cm off of the floor and can hold up to 900 kg. The full size bed costs $1.6 million. A bed that is 1/5 the size of the full size bed costs only $153,000.

2. The Vividus by Hastens. The Vividus has been the most expensive mattress for years. Those who have slept on the Vividus describe the experience as “sleeping on a cloud.” Swedish designs ensure the highest quality and most luxurious comfort. The cost of this “heaven-like” experience is $59,750.

3. VI-Spring. The Titantic was the most luxurious cruise liner to ever sail. Its interior had the finest products, including the finest mattresses. The tragedy-bound ship came with Hypnos VI-spring mattresses. These days, the mattresses run between $8,000-$20,000. Can you imagine what they paid for the VI Spring back then?

4. Hypnos. Hypnos is the most luxurious and prestigious British mattress company. The company is the only provider of mattresses for the British royal family. You can expect to pay at least $15,000 for these perfect, cashmere mattresses.

5. Duxiana is another Swedish mattress company. Duxiana is one of only three or four major luxury mattress manufactures. The cheapest Duxiana mattress costs about $4,000 while the most expensive is $8,700.

Can you believe that some people pay thousands of dollars for these mattresses and beds? Those who do pay such a price tag understand the importance of getting a good night’s sleep. When you are a millionaire, you can expect to buy one of these five most expensive mattresses ever.

In the past, there have been a few complaints that memory foam makes you hot while you are sleeping. This certainly isn’t the case for everyone who sleeps on memory foam. You might be considering a memory foam mattress. But, you might ask yourself, “Will I feel hot when sleeping on memory foam?” Let’s take a closer look.

1. Good quality. Good quality memory foam mattresses will not really make you feel hot while you are sleeping. The majority of people that complained about the temperature of memory foam were sleeping on cheap memory foam. Good quality memory foam mattresses use your body temperature to heat up the mattress. However, these top-quality mattresses do not lock in that heat. Rather, these mattresses help circulate the heat through its open-cell technology. Open-cell technology is a vital component to high quality memory foam and it is this component that keeps air flowing. Inexpensive memory foam does not utilize open-cell technology.

2. Room temperature. If you keep your house or bedroom hot, of course you will be hot when you sleep. The
optimal temperature range for memory foam is between 70 degrees and 75 degrees. Keeping your home at this temperature allows the memory foam to still utilize its conforming technology but does not trap in heat.

3. Sheets. Sometimes it really depends on what type of sheets you are using. Flannel sheets are going to be warmer to sleep in than satin sheets or cotton sheets. The sheets you use shouldn’t suffocate your memory foam mattress. Choose a sheet set that will allow your mattress to breathe.

Not every memory foam mattress is hot to sleep on. In fact, if you are careful to choose a high-quality memory foam, you shouldn’t have to worry about getting too hot at night. Keep your thermostat at a comfortable setting. Keeping your home too hot will cause the memory foam mattress to trap in warm air. The last step in ensuring that you don’t get too hot while sleeping on a memory foam mattress is choosing the right sheets. Only use sheets that will let your mattress breathe. If you follow these three steps, you won’t have to worry about getting too hot at night.

A pillow is defined as a large cushion that is used to support the head. A pillow is usually used while sleeping in a bed. It can also be used on a chair or couch. The use of pillows dates back to Ancient Egyptians. These pillows were used by ancient Egyptians and were found in many Egyptian tombs. Pillows then began to be as commodities in China, then Persia, then Medieval Europe.

There are many different types of pillows. Body pillows, neck pillows and memory foam pillows can be the perfect addition to a better night’s sleep.

Body Pillows
Body pillows are long pillows. These pillows are as long as a full adult body. Body pillows give optimal support to the head and neck, as well as to the knees and legs at the same time. Body pillows are ideal for side sleepers and pregnant women.

Neck Pillows
Neck pillows offer additional support to the neck. These pillows provide a deep area for the head to rest. These pillows also feature an area that keeps the neck properly aligned. Neck pillows are also called cervical pillows. These are ideal for people who suffer from back or neck pain.

Memory foam Pillows
Memory foam pillows provide the benefits of memory foam to the head and neck. Memory foam uses innovative technology that uses the sleeper’s body temperature to warm up the material. Once the memory foam is heated, it provides a soft cradle to the neck and head.

Body pillows, neck pillows and memory foam pillows can add the right touch to any sleep. If you already have the perfect mattress, but are looking for something extra, try a body pillow, neck pillow or memory foam pillow.

People are ‘going green’ everywhere. From cars to groceries, consumers are wanting alternative ‘green’ energy sources and are looking for ways to reduce their own personal carbon footprint. Here are five easy ways to make your bedroom more eco-friendly.

1. Lighting - The easiest way to make your bedroom more environmentally friendly is to change the lighting. Using energy efficient light bulbs can keep your energy costs down. Enough energy would be saved to power a city of 1.5 million people if just 110 million households used just one energy efficient lightbulb in their home. Not only will you cut energy costs, but the light you will get from an eco-friendly lightbulb will last longer and be brighter.

2. Furniture - You can find eco-friendly furniture everywhere these days. Vaughan-Bassett has started a program that really helps out the environment. Vaughan-Bassett has already donated over 150,000 tree seedlings to the Virginia Department of Forestry. Once these seedlings are planted, the company replaced every tree that has ever been used in the domestic production of its bedroom and dining room suites. There are also more ways to produce furniture in environmentally friendly ways.

3. Bedding - The most important thing you do to make your bedroom eco-friendly is to get eco-friendly bedding. You can easily find organic sheets, pillows and comforters. Latex mattresses are the most environmentally friendly mattresses on the market. Latex foam is found and produced naturally. These mattresses are naturally hypoallergenic, dust mite resistant, anti-microbial and anti-bacterial.

4. Rugs - Earth-friendly rugs are everywhere these days. Eco-friendly rugs are made from bamboo, jute, sisal, coir and seagrass. Rugs are a fun way to make your bedroom environmentally friendly and add a splash of personality.

5. Paint - Did you ever think you would be able to use eco-friendly paint? Low VOC or zero VOC do not contain the harmful chemicals that other paints do. These paints are safer and more efficient than regular paint.

Making your bedroom eco-friendly is easy to do these days. Use energy efficient lightbulbs, furniture, rugs and paint. Don’t stop there though, think of what you can do to help out and feel free to comment on this post to share your ideas! Making your bedroom eco-friendly is as easy as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 with these great ideas.

Adjustable beds have been around for years. An adjustable bed is just a bed that has a multi-hinged lying surface. This surface can be changed to rest in many different positions. The most common adjustment for an adjustable bed is inclining the upper body and raising the lower body, independently of each other.

Adjustable beds have been used in hospitals for decades. Adjustable beds have become a popular trend in home health care in the past thirty years. The reason that these beds have been used in the medical field for so long, and are becoming more popular for the general public’s use is that they have so many health benefits. Let’s talk about some of the many health benefits of an adjustable bed.

1. Lower back pain. Adjustable beds have been proven to ease lower back pain. Lying on a flat surface doesn’t always keep your spinal curves aligned properly. Using a memory foam mattress with an adjustable bed can keep your spine aligned properly and supported naturally.

2. Shoulder and Neck Tension. Many people go to bed with neck and shoulder tension from a long, hard day. Many mattresses and beds do not take away this tension, but add to it. Adjustable beds can keep the upper body elevated and can keep the natural curve of the neck aligned. Some adjustable beds even offer massage settings that can really relieve shoulder and neck tension.

3. Circulatory issues. Certain mattresses and beds create pressure points because they are too firm. Pressure points decrease the amount of circulation in your body. Sleeplessness, numbness in arms and legs, and a feeling sluggish are all effects of decreased circulation. Using a memory foam or latex foam mattress with your adjustable bed can actually increase your body’s circulation. Keeping your legs and upper body slightly elevated while you sleep can also eliminate circulatory issues.

4. Asthma and other breathing difficulties. Many people who suffer from asthma have a hard time at night. By keeping the upper body elevated takes pressure off of the lungs. When this pressure is taken off of the lungs, breathing becomes much easier. Other breathing difficulties can arise while sleeping. Keeping the legs elevated can stimulate the entry of fluid into the circulatory system and out of the lungs.

5. Edema. Edema is when an abnormal amount of fluid builds up in the body. It can cause major swelling in the hands and other extremities. Keeping your legs elevated can significantly reduce edema.

6. Acid Reflux. Many people around the world suffer from acid reflux. It is caused by the lower esophageal sphincter relaxing too much. When the sphincter relaxes this much, it allows stomach acids to leak back into the esophagus. Doctors recommend elevated the head and upper body to reduce acid reflux.

There are countless health benefits to using an adjustable bed. You might find more health benefits than someone else. Adjustable beds and the right mattress can significantly improve your health.

Too many people keep their old, stinky mattresses way too long. Some people don’t replace their mattress for decades. Mattresses should be replaced often. Not only does a mattress eventually wear down, but your body changes and needs new levels of comfort and support every so often. Here are the top 5 reasons to replace your old, stinky mattress today…

5. Mattress are made to be replaced - Mattresses should be replaced at least every 8-10 years. If you are sleeping on an innerspring mattress, you should be replacing your mattress more often than that. Major mattress manufacturers, like Sealy, Simmons, Serta and others, do not want to sell a product that will last 20 years or more.

Mattress companies now are focused on quality, comfort and resiliency. Some top-quality memory foam and latex mattress can last longer than 8-10 years. However, these mattresses are brand new to the market. Unless you bought a brand-new, top-quality latex or memory foam mattress recently, you need to think about replacing your mattress soon.

4. Increased Memory and Efficiency - Getting enough sleep is crucial to good health. It can increase your alertness throughout the day, increase your memory, increase your problem solving capabilities, reduce the risk of accidents and increase your overall health. Having a good mattress is also necessary to get enough rest after a long and hard days work. If you need to increase your memory, efficiency and overall health, you need to replace your mattress.

3. Reduce Back Problems - There aren’t many things worse than being in back pain. A good mattress can minimize or eliminate upper back pain, lower back pain or neck pain. Many people think that their mattress is doing an OK job. But, it isn’t very hard to find a mattress that keeps your back misaligned. Proper spinal alignment is necessary to prevent back pain and affects all of your daily activities. If you want to get rid of back pain or prevent it, you need to replace your mattress with one that keeps your spine aligned properly.

2. New Foam Technology Leads to Better Sleep - Let’s face it…innerspring and coil mattresses are old-school. These mattresses do not provide hardly any benefits, if any. However, they are still being made and purchased because they are so cheap. New foam technology leads to better sleep and provides benefits that coil mattresses cannot provide. Foam mattresses distribute your weight evenly. This redistribution of weight reduces pressure points and prevents you from having to toss and turn all night. If you are tired of tossing and turning all night long, you need to replace your current mattress with a foam mattress.

1. Dust Mite Feces Doubled Your Bed Weight - Most people don’t realize how dust mites affect your mattress. Dust mites aren’t the only problem…their feces create a huge problem as well. Did you know that your bed weighs double what it did 10 years ago because of dust mite feces? Dust mites feed off of your dead skin. Their feces seep into your mattress and can also cause severe breathing problems.

Latex mattress get the highest customer satisfaction rating out of all of the different types of mattresses. The majority of customers who sleep on latex mattress say that latex mattresses offer them comfort and support that they haven’t received from any other kind of mattress.

Latex mattresses are a breakthrough new product. But, are they really new? Latex foam mattresses have actually been around since 1929. The process for making latex mattresses has been around for quite some time.

Latex mattresses are made from rubber trees. The sap of the rubber tree is used to manufacture natural latex mattresses. The sap is ‘foamed’ into latex foam. It is whipped into a porous and some-what soft bedding material.

There are two major manufacturing processes that are used to make latex mattresses. The Talalay and Dunlop processes are used to create memory foam mattresses. The Talalay process is the most traditional method and widely used method.

Latex mattresses are naturally hypoallergenic, pest resistant, odor-free and anti-microbial. These mattresses are perfect for people with asthma and/or allergies. Latex mattresses are more firm, more durable and more comfortable than any other kind of mattress.
