The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial is a two-act play by Herman Wouk, which he adapted from his own novel, The Caine Mutiny. Wouk's novel covered a long stretch of time aboard the USS Caine, a Navy minesweeper in the Pacific. It begins with Willis Keith's assignment to the Caine, chronicles the mismanagement of the ship under Philip Francis Queeg, explains how Steve Maryk relieved Queeg of command, gives an account of Maryk's court-martial, and describes the aftermath of the mutiny for all involved.

The play covers only the court-martial itself. Like jurors at a trial, the audience knows only what various witnesses tell it of the events on the Caine.
The play was first presented by Paul Gregory in the Granada Theatre, Santa Barbara, California, on October 12, 1953 and then went on tour across the United States before being given its first performance on Broadway at the Plymouth Theatre on 20 January 1954 in a production directed by Charles Laughton, with Henry Fonda and John Hodiak. Lloyd Nolan played Queeg.Herbert Anderson (later Denis the Menice's father on TV played Dr. Bird.It ran for 415 performances. It was revived in 1983 at the Stamford Center for the Arts, Stamford, Connecticut and then at the Circle in the Square Theatre in a production directed by Arthur Sherman with John Rubinstein and Michael Moriarty, with Jay O. Sanders as Maryk. Former New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath (widely known as "Broadway Joe") replaced Sanders during the run of the show, marking his only appearance on Broadway. Charlton Heston directed a critically acclaimed production in Los Angeles and London in 1984 in which he starred as Queeg. Heston later brought the production to the Kennedy Center's Eisenhower Theater, where it again garnered critical acclaim. The play was first presented on television live in 1955, with Lloyd Nolan and Robert Gist repeating their stage roles as Queeg and Lt. Keefer, respectively , but with Barry Sullivan as Greenwald and Frank Lovejoy as Lt. Maryk. It was staged as an episode of the anthology series Ford Star Jubilee. In 1988 Robert Altman directed another made-for-television version of The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial for CBS, with Eric Bogosian playing Barney Greenwald, Jeff Daniels as Steve Maryk, and Brad Davis playing Philip Francis Queeg. The play was again revived on Broadway in 2006 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in a production directed by Jerry Zaks, starring Zeljko Ivanek as Queeg, Timothy Daly as prosecutor Lt. Cmdr. John Challee and David Schwimmer as Greenwald.

Col in "Defianc;" the miller in "Cantebury Tales;" and Bogart in "Play It Again Sam." He is an adjunct lecturer in physics and mathematics at SUNY-New Paltz. Lt.

Jerry Maple Jr.

I create for my own joy and maintain my objectives so that others may enjoy my creativity. A director, playwright, an actor, poet, and humanitarian Jerry was born and raised in Sumter, South Carolina but has lived in NYC for more than 35 years. He attended Morris college and Manhattan Medical School of Technology, graduating with a degree in Histology. Jerry is a product of Henry Street's settlement Theatre, Circle in the Square Theatre, Lincoln Center's International Director's lab and the Harlem Public Theatre Shakespearean Workshop. In 1984- 85, three of Jerry's directional projects get nods for 14 Audelco Award nominations.

Commander Philip Francis Queeg: Commanding officer

...is an attorney practicing in Highland, NY who finds it hard to believe that he's been acting with New Day for the past 40 years, having appeared in more than a dozen productions (that he remembers!), the last one being "The Emperor Jones, " by Eugene O'Neill. Jack has also been seen in many productions for SUNY New Paltz Repertory Theatre.

Captain Blakely: (JUDGE)

John LeFever

...lives in Woodstock. Has been acting most of his life in the Hudson Valley. He was last seen as Dr. Bradley in, "The Man Who Came to Dinner" at Rhinebeck Center. He has played Baylor in "A Lie of the Mind" by Sam Shephard, a Russian Arms Negotiator in "A Walk in the Woods" at the performing arts of Woodstock among many other plays. He has been an English Teacher, a reporter an editor and truck driver.

Stephen Maryk: Queeg's second-in-command on the Caine, and the officer who relieved Queeg of duty

Budd Riddell

21 year-old New Paltz native, Budd Riddell, was born into the arts, acting in local plays, improvisation and circus performance. As a very young man he performed in New Day's Repertory's , "Our Man From Georgi"a. He performed for years under the direction of Ann Citron at Back Stage Studio Productions Youth Theatre Groups Plays: Here, Alice, and Cabarat. Budd hopes one day to direct works of fiction on film and stage.

Willis Keith: a junior officer on the Caine

Nicholas Kalogris

...has performed in various New Day Repertory Company productions including "The Yoke", "Scenes From Shakespeare", "Cry The Beloved Country" and "Our Man From Georgi"a. Mr Kalogris has also Stage Managed many New Day Productions and even served as an office manager for New Day. Other areas that Nicholas Kalogris has been involved in include being an active board member for the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church in Poughkeepsie NY, a member of the Upper Landing Committee in the City of Poughkeepsie and works for the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and Pamal Broadcasting where Mr. Kalogris has worked in technical productions for talk shows and sports broadcasts as well as conducted sports interviews. Some of Nick's work has appeared ON SIRIUS XM Satelite Radio and WABC Radio in NYC.

Dr. Forrest Lundeen: a psychiatrist called to testify about Queeg's mental fitness

Mark Colvson

This is Mark's first appearance with The New Day Rep, but he has done several nearby Productions, most recently as principal weeks in Gleefull an original musical review at Philipstown Depot Theatre. Pickering in "My Fair Lady" and George in "I'll be Back Before Midnigh"t at the County players in Wappingers. He also appeared as Rubin in 90 miles off Broadway's production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor DreamCoat" in New Paltz and several students films at Vassar College. Previous regional theater credits include, "To Kill a Mockingbird", and "A Christmas Carol" at Cider Mill Playhouse in Endicott NY. Dr. Ron Robbins

This is the 2nd WW II part played by Dr. Ron Robbins. He was in "Judgement at Nurenberg", directed by the late Mary Fishgold, presented at the Jewish Community Center in Poughkeepsie. Ron has performed in numerous productions directed by Roger Hendricks Simon of SimonStudio.com, often playing opposite his wife Gloria. Under Simon, he has performed roles from Shakespeare, Chekov, Beckett and Ionesco on stage in Poughkeepsie at Cuneen-Hackett. He was in the Historical Play, The Deciding Vote performed in the Poughkeepsie Courthouse, and the Quad Centennial Poughkeepsie Shipyards Pageant on the waterfront near The Shadows produced by former Mayor Nancy Cozine. Ron has been in various Bard at the Bar performances held at Alan Ginsberg old haunt: The West End Bar on Broadway in New York, and at the historical Player's Club, as well as the Drama Bookshop Theatre in NY. He appeared in the movie Jimmy's Café as well as a commercial filmed by Daniel Hendricks Simon. Ron is delighted to have an opportunity to work with Rodney Douglass and New Day Repertory Company whose works he has greatly enjoyed over the years, and is pleased to be with actors in the cast. As a psychologist playing the role of a psychologist, Dr Robbins is intrigued with the comparisons between the sick civilization which he mentions in the role and the sick civilization with which we struggle today.

...is a video blogger, painter and a satyrical cartoonist.
"The Cats and Squirrels Hospital", (Google It) where a former marketing exec starts a non profit charity is his creation. Noah has a Youtube video channel dedicated to opposing cultural equivalences and his show and blog replies led to his arrest and extradition to Seattle last year. Noah still believes that the judicial system failed him when it didn't uphold First Amendment doctrine of Prior Restraint. Noah's media uses search engine optimization. ...39, was born in the Bronx and raised in Poughkeepsie, NY, where she currently resides. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management from Nyack College in Nyack, NY in 2008. Ms. Hooper studied acting at Dutchess Community College. She currently studies acting with New Day Repertory Co. under the direction of Rodney K. Douglas. She dedicates her performance to her late grandmother, Mrs. Agatha Graves. Rodney K. Douglas
...is a native of Granada, one of twelve children. His place in the "Douglas Dozen" fell fifth; there were eight boys and four girls. Rodney's father was a preacher, two of his brothers are clergymen and one sister married a clergyman. Oration, whether from the pulpit or the stage; seems a strong part of his legacy.

Following his early schooling in Granada, Rodney was intent on a career in business administration. He was training students for civil service jobs in Trinidad when he met Olive. In fact, he left Trinidad for London to study at the London School of Economics, but fickle fate, as it is won't to do, intervened. A play, "The Big Knife" was opening and our would be businessman Rodney was offered a part. He became so enthralled with acting and the stage that he applied to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. World famous actor, Paul Robeson, wrote his letter of recommendation, and he was accepted with a scholarship. Business was history, theater was all! Rodney completed his formal education with a BA in theater arts, an MA in educational theater, and a Ph.D in drama.

Fellow students or actors he worked with while at the Academy, fondly known as RADA, inculded the Redgraves, Laurence Oliver, Alec Guinness, and Glenda Jackson. Rodney and Olive's conversation is casually peppered with the names of the greats of the English stage. In one anecdote, Rodney described a part he had in a play called "The Blacks". Lynn Redgrave was his dresser for the play. Rodney always liked to rest in his dressing room just before going to stage, but Miss Redgrave interruped with a knock and she said she wanted him to meet someone. He demurred, insisting on his rest, and later found to his dismay that it was her father, the great Michael Redgrave, he was to have met.

Following their marriage in St. Albans, Olive had joined Rodney in London. One day she was on stage reading the female part for a play Rodney was in called "Mr. Johnson", when the director called out "I want that woman" Rodney tried to explain that Olive was his wife, not an actress. Mr. Director, however, was adamant that Olive had talent, was perfect for, and should have a part in his play, and so she did. And thus began her theatrical career. After immigrating to the United States, (Olive on the last voyage of the Queen Mary, and Rodney on the Queen Elizabeth) Rodney was doing an off-Broadway play with James Earl Jones when he got word of a casting call for Shakespeare's "Merchant of Venice", a work he had performed many times. When he went for the call, he was informed that "there were no parts for Negroes" in the play. He was appalled. This incident was the impetus that gave birth to New Day Repertory Company, founded in 1963 by Rodney and soul mate, Olive...

Williamstown Theatre Festival, O'Neill Playwrights Conference, Folger Shakespeare Group, Great Lakes Theatre Festival, PBS, Metromedia and BBC-TV, and National Public Radio.
Elected to Notable Names in American Theatre, Roger has directed in London, New York and international festival premieres by Tennessee Williams, Sam Shepard, David Hare, Michael Weller, John Guare, Terrence McNally, Lanford Wilson, Israel Horowitz, Jean-Claude van Itallie, Megan Terry and William Saroyan. Roger has directed plays and taught all aspects of communications in India, Pakistan, Iran, Nigeria, South Africa and throughout Europe for the U.S.I.A. and U.S. State Department. This celebratory event is comprised of both our studio's new film
project screenings by
Daniel Simon and
classical & contemporary theatre scenes and monologues performed
on the subject of things related to Halloween -
death, horror, and/or characters hiding behind "masks", etc.
Participants should bring an improvised costume suitable to the
character they perform.
