I can’t help but agree with her and the post makes me ponder upon types of attractive people. Flippy Doodle’s post inspires me to write a post about attractive people who are “ugly”. I think there are three types of attractive people in this world:

People who are very attractive but they are not aware of it. (Some of my friends fall into this category)

People who are very attractive and who are aware that they are attractive but they do not brag about it. They also have a very interesting personality. <del datetime="2012-04-28T16:39:33+00:00">(like me)</del>

Ugly attractive people.

The second category is very rare. In this post, I decided to focus on the people who fall into the third category. Ugly attractive people who are very attractive and they are aware of their own sexiness. However, they act like a total bitch most of the time since they think that they can get away with anything because they have the looks. Let me tell you a story about a fugly hot guy that I used to have a crush on in high school.

I had a crush on a guy because he is very attractive, very muscular and very cute. It was love at a first sight because I was “struck by a lightning” when I lay my eyes on him. Okay, well, it was not love. It is more of a temporary crush. Fortunately for me, my feelings do not last very long since he made it very easy for me to forget about him.

What turns me off and why did my feelings went away so very easily? The fact that he is incapable of doing his own work and who is also incapable of being ethical. He only talks to you if he needs something. For example, if he needs to copy your homework, he will come to you and will shamelessly ask you for your homework. Other than dating hot girls and grooming himself, he doesn’t really care much about anything else. Work? What work? Who the fuck cares when you have booze and broads! His personality turns me off and he is no longer attractive to me! Instead of wanting to kiss him, I think it is more appropriate if I bitch slap him and tell him to make me a sandwich because that is the only thing he can do.

I know a girl who acts just like him in high school. She didn’t really have much close friends because she hanged out with her boyfriend 24/7. She will only approach her classmates when they have an exam or when they have a homework due. Most of the time, she flaunts her tits in a low cut shirt and flirts with her tutors. She is very attractive but very ugly at the same time. Her attitude is so annoying that you just wanna smack the shit out of her.

A hot guy who knows he is hot is not really a bad thing. However, if he is acting like a total dick just because he thinks he is hot, now that is very annoying. A hot guy who thinks he is hot but who are extremely down to earth at the same time? Now, that is a type of guy who is to die for!

Battle Royale: Taught Me the Importance of “Staying Frosty”

Personal

Entertainment

Manga

Offline

I watched The Hunger Games three weeks ago without reading the books. Now, I don’t really care much about the movie and I am not motivated to read the books at all. After reading a few blogs, I found out about another novel with a very similar theme: Battle Royale. There was this huge hoopla about how the Hunger Games was a shitty tame version of Battle Royale but I don’t really care about that. So I decided to research more about Battle Royale and I found out that there is a manga and a movie based on the original novel. I decided to read the manga instead and see if I like it. So how was Battle Royale? Lets just say I ended up having a very unproductive weekend since I was completely glued on my bed and was busy reading the manga.

What I like about Battle Royale is that each of the main characters are well-developed. Each of them have backstories that made them into who they are. Now, I wouldn’t want to go into details since I fear that I might accidentally give spoilers. Battle Royale taught me an important lesson. It taught me that it is important to “stay frosty”.

Shinji Mimura is one of the main characters. He is a ladies’ man who happens to be very intelligent and who is good at hacking. Yup! My kind of guy. Oh, and he happens to be very athletic too since he is the school’s star basketball player. Ugh! Why can’t real men be as perfect as the ones in mangas?

Shinji Mimura seldom lost his temper since he keeps on telling himself to “Stay Frosty”, which is another fancy way of saying “stay cool”. He has an uncle that advised him to always stay calm and cool no matter what. He states that staying cool in a very tough situation will always be beneficial. Losing your cool in such tough situations will only bring disaster. I agree with him completely.. And that is what Shinji did… staying calm even in a shitty situation where his classmates are killing each other.

Now, I am a very hot-tempered girl. It is hard coded in my genes. My grandpa has a shitty temper and my mom inherits his temper. My aunt too. It is no surprise that I have a shitty temper as well. However, having a shitty temper is not always good. It only drives you to act recklessly. I noticed that my mom is wiser now; she seldom lose her temper but just to let out some steam, she would post her frustration on her Facebook wall.

This is what I am going to try hard to achieve: staying cool and frosty. My friends always laugh when I told them that I will try and be “Zen”. They would just smirk and say, “Rrriiigghht! Let see how long will this last”. And I always thought the same too: I won’t be able to keep my cool when shit comes up.

I grew up in a high school full of delinquents. Being cool is not really our main trait. Everyday, I will always encounter students having fist fight with each other. I’ve had my fair share of street fight. That is a story for another day.

But currently, I wanna be just like Shinji Mimura: intelligent, <del datetime="2012-04-08T20:18:36+00:00">handsome</del> pretty, athletic and most importantly, “frosty”. God, please help me get there.

Coding Project with Stupid People is Challenging

Personal

Morons

Offline

Rants

This semester, I have a lot of coding project to do. I have a lot of work ranging from a simple website using HTML5 and jQuery to complex ones like working on an Android app (working with more than one programmers for this). I have a lot of group work too this semester. Some of my coding project group members are brilliant. For example, I am working with someone on an Android app (one of the teammates). It is a good learning experience and I learn a lot from this team member. Because life is not always a bed of roses, some of my coding project group members are extremely stupid that they can’t even write a proper CSS code for me.

I am working with a stupid guy on a PHP coding project. So I told him to write the CSS for a web application. So what he did was, he took a large background image that contains the header and slap that into the CSS. Of course if you want to have a nicely repeated background that will repeat along with your content or blogpost, you need to use “repeat-y”. However, he has never even heard of “repeat-y” before! And if you want to repeat a background so that it repeats nicely along with your content, you should never slap a big background that includes the header into the background. You should separate the header and the background image.

I can tolerate that he sucks when it comes to coding. What I can’t tolerate is the fact that he is slowing me down. He keeps on saying shit like, “Ren, you are working too much” and “Ren, please give me something to do when it comes to the code too”. He keeps telling me to stop working because I am working too much. So who the fuck is going to write the code then? You, a person who doesn’t even know how to do basic CSS? You would ended up fucking the whole PHP application up and I have to debug it!

What annoys me the most is that this guy is a junior now – he is in his third year. What the fuck has he been learning for the past 3 years when he can’t even write a proper CSS code? This little piece of fact baffles me the most. There are some of my friends who are not even in college and they can convert a design into HTML and CSS in an hour.

Don’t waste your money in college if you are not gonna take your field of study seriously. You are just wasting your time. Read this blog post by Kenny Sia. Maybe you should consider dropping out because you are wasting your time and MY time for being in my group! The group members are assigned by the professor. Therefore, I am stuck with this guy for three more weeks.

Ghost Trick: A Great Way to Kill Time

Personal

Entertainment

Games

Offline

As a student, I need to take a break from time to time. I can’t work for 3 to 4 hours straight without taking a break. I can’t pull an all-nighter as well and I have never pulled one before even though I am already in my junior year. Given my year in college, you figure that I should have some experience in pulling an all-nighter. Oh well, lets just say that I rather fail a quiz or a test than ditching sleep.

Since I don’t have my Xbox360 with me, I usually play games on my iPad. As a gamer, old habits die hard and I still want to play from time to time. Recently, my uncle introduced me to a game titled Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. After playing it for a few minutes, I was hooked and I ended up <del datetime="2012-02-29T19:38:21+00:00">buying</del> (not really) all the chapters from iTunes.

When I play a game, I don’t just play for the sake of playing or killing time; I also play because I am interested in the storyline and I appreciate a good game with a good storyline. It is challenging to come up with a very good storyline that is original and interesting. Sometimes, the storyline itself motivates you to keep going and finish the game.

In Ghost Trick, you get to control a ghost named Sissel. Sissel is dead because he was murdered and he had forgotten everything about himself. Fortunately, Sissel has the power to manipulate objects and he wants to use his power in order to find his true identity. The storyline pretty much centers on who is Sissel and why is he murdered. The mystery of Sissel keeps you interested and you will not want to stop playing just because you want to know what is going to happen next. The ending has a really clever twist that I could cry because it was well executed! I was caught off guard and did not expect such a good ending at all. Playing Ghost Trick is like watching an anime; the only difference is that you can control the characters.

Ghost Trick is all about puzzles. How do you avert one’s death by manipulating the objects around him/her? I always love a good puzzle in games. Resident Evil used to have killer puzzles in their earlier games before. Silent Hill too! Silent Hill’s puzzle could be annoying sometimes though. But then again, so does Ghost Trick! You can get frustrated when you can’t solve a puzzle or save someone from dying. Basically, it is a game that requires creative thinking. You need to think creatively in order to beat this game and that is one of the things that makes it so damn awesome!

See the guy that is dancing above? That is Inspector Cabanela. He is a weird and funny one; an interesting character Anyway, take a bit of break in between your work and play the game. Or play any game for that matter!

Insecure (But Not So Insecure) Girls

Personal

Funny

Morons

Offline

There are girls who are extremely insecure sometimes. However these types of girls are genuinely insecure that they try to hide and not really say anything about it. I don’t mind these types of girls. I believe everyone has their own insecurities from time to time. What I can’t stand is girls who used their insecurities for attention. I am pretty sure some of you had heard this kind of quotes before:

Attention Whore: I am so fat and ugly! Ugh! *Expects her friends to say “No, you’re not! You are very skinny and pretty!*

One of my friends is fat and she loves saying these types of things. It makes me feel awkward at times because I don’t know how to continue the conversation once she start bringing up that she is fat or ugly. To be honest, it makes me feel uncomfortable. I can’t say, “No, you are not fat! You are very skinny!” because I’ll be lying. Plus, I hate entertaining girls like this. Sometimes, I tired to boost up her confidence by saying things like, “Maybe we can go to the gym together! Lets lose weight!” or “Self-confidence is hot. I think this is more important to have confidence than physical beauty”. But it just doesn’t work since she will continue throwing a pity party. It seems to me that they are seeking attention and expect me to say something nice in return.

Ren: Ah, yes. Don’t worry about getting a boyfriend. There is no need to rush actually.
Attention Whore: Yeah, of course you have nothing to worry about. You’re skinny but I am so fat that they won’t even look at me and I am not that pretty.
Ren: … *feels really awkward*

She does this quite frequently and it makes me feel awkward since I don’t know what to say. She did this to some other friends and some of them said things like, “No! You’re not fat!” or “I saw pictures when you were younger! You look so hot!“. And the attention whore would smile and say, “Really? Thank you!“.

I have a habit of saying, “I know, right?” when I am having a conversation with my friends. It sorts of acts like a reflex, especially when I agree with my friend with what she is saying. For example,

Friend: I think the Ruby on Rails framework is just dead sexy. Makes it really fast to create an app straight away. It does all the dirty work for you!
Ren: I know, right?!

Sometimes, my “I know, right?” reflexes made me sound really mean:

Attention Whore: I am so fat and not that pretty. So it is hard for me to get a boyfriend.
Ren: I know, right?!
Attention Whore: *gives Ren a dirty look*
Ren: Uh..umm..I..I didn’t mean…you’re not…uh…I..I need to go to the bathroom.

I just wish she would stop saying those kinds of things because it made me feel really awkward. Usually, I just keep quiet or I just change the subject. I wouldn’t entertain her by lying; if she really worries about her weight, she should do something about it. Put some effort and actually go to the gym. Throwing a pity party will not get you anywhere and it is a waste of time.

I do have acquaintances who are slim and lean but likes to say that they are fat just to fish for compliments.

Skinny Bitch: I am so fat and I think I need to lose weight!
Another Girl: No! You are very skinny and pretty!
Skinny Bitch: Nah, I am not.
Another Girl: You are pretty!
Skinny Bitch: Really? Thank you!

So annoying. The reason why I sometimes can’t stand girls. I have a lot of girlfriends; we hang out and chill together. But most of them are bright and intelligent. They are confident in their own skin and don’t really throw a pity party or try to fish for compliments. I am happy that I made friends with these girls.

New Interest: Developing Mobile Applications

Personal

Offline

School

Last semester, I had to learn how to develop an Android application. So, I visit the Android Application Developer’s Guide to check some simple tutorials. After trying out all of the tutorials on the website, I was able to develop a simple Twitter client that pulls tweets about Android. It was pretty interesting how I would learn something really fast. Developing for Android is easy since I had experience with Java programming language. Therefore, I was able to learn really fast.

I sort of stop learning once the winter break starts since I was busy improving both my knowledge on PHP/MySQL and Ruby on Rails. Plus, I am planning to write a script using PHP, I need to learn more about security. I bet I had forgotten how to develop a simple Android app.

Earlier this month, I upgraded my iPad to iOS5. They had a new app called iTunes U. I found great free courses in there and one of them is on how to develop an iPad application. There are two courses available; one is released by Stanford and another is by Carnegie Mellon. I gave one of the courses a shot and tried to learn the basics even though I had no prior experience in the C programming language.

So far, developing an iPad app seems easier than Android. You can develop a simple app for the iPad without writing a single line of code at all. If you are a Mac user, you can use XCODE to create a simple app. So far, it seems like a WYSIWYG editor. You can type “hello world” on your story board and it will show up on the emulator. Currently, I am learning how to create a calculator. Baby stuff.

If those of you who are wondering, I downloaded the Stanford’s iPad app course. It is free and it is available on iTunes U. So far, it is really easy to follow and very interesting. Apparently, iPad application development followed the MVC architecture. I have experience with MVC architecture since I work with Ruby on Rails; this framework uses the MVC architecture too.

I am not sure how complex developing an iPad application could be. I am still on the second episode; so maybe it seems easy now since we are just learning the basics. It might be hard soon.

I received an email from an alumni recently. He is giving me the opportunity to work with him on an Android application. I am very interested since I want to learn more. We’ll see how that goes.

I had a lot of experience on developing a web application. I develop not just for school but also for internships and also for my personal blog. I would love to try something different now; a mobile application would seem like an interesting one to learn.

Any of you have experience on developing an Android or an iPad/iPhone application?

It is Hard to Ignore…

Personal

Morons

Offline

Rants

…boobs when it is dangling in front of your face. Sometimes it could be very distracting especially if the girl has a huge crucifix in the middle of her cleavage. I find this ironic but you can’t really judge a person from his or her crucifix. Some people wear crucifix necklace because it can look pretty fashionable.

So this woman came to me for help. She was wearing this low cut shirt that shows half of her boobs popping out. Sometimes I wonder, why don’t you just wear nipple pasties to school if you really want to show people your boobs? It is the same thing, right? If you want to show something, show it all the way. Don’t give teasers.

I don’t mind girls dressing as slutty as they want. It is easy to ignore them. But if they are sitting next to you or in front of you (since you need to help her), it gets pretty challenging to ignore. And that crucifix necklace that she was wearing. It was dangling in the middle of her boobs! It is as if she is giving Jesus a sneak peek of her boobs: Peek-a-boo, Jesus!

No wonder men can’t seem to take their eyes of from a girl’s cleavage. As a straight girl, I find it pretty distracting and can’t take my eyes away from it too (especially if she is in front of me or sitting beside me). I did look away after getting bored. Couldn’t ignore the fact that her tits kept on “bouncing” when she moves. The crucifix kept on blinking because it is made by zircon. It is a perfect way to draw attention to your boobs, right?

But then again, when men stares at girls’ cleavage, the girls usually get mad and start calling him a pervert. So ironic. If you don’t want people to look then wear a decent shirt. Isn’t that common sense? Why show it off if you don’t want people to look? What lah you!

Stupid Adults

Personal

Morons

Offline

Rants

I hate stupid people. Unfortunately, I am surrounded by some of them and they are all in their mid 30s.

You know, I always thought that it is not good for me to be anti-social. If you know me in real life, you know that I hate going out, I hate hanging out with people other than my closest friends and I especially hate wedding invitations.

Why Ren? Why?! Wedding is such a beautiful event! You are just bitter because you don’t even have a boyfriend!

Because I need to socialize with stupid adults a.k.a family friends. I always thought that it is bad for me to be a social recluse because it is important to meet people and network (it is also how you get boyfriends and being anti-social is the reason why I am still single).

However, I finally know the reason why I am a social recluse and it is a good reason: I wanted to avoid morons. Recently, I went to a wedding. Met an obese man who is also a family friend. Of course, I can’t avoid him because some people just don’t get the message that you do not want to talk to them. Conversation went like this:

Obese Man: You’re back! No class? I thought you are in that university currently ranked one of the best in the world?
Renetta: It is my winter break.
Obese Man: Oh really? Is it a winter break or did you get expelled because you can’t keep up? Tee hee.
Renetta: It is my winter break. And no, they won’t expel me because I am not a moron like you.
Obese Man: Hahaha! You know what I like to tell my nieces? Don’t study too hard; they won’t get anywhere because they are women. They can’t get far.
Renetta: I feel sorry for all your niece. They have a [insert extreme Malaysian Hokkien swearing word here] as an uncle.
Obese Man: What did you say?
Renetta: You heard me. Just stop talking.

These types of conversations happened quite often in a wedding ceremony. I decided to post this one because it is recent and it shows that this man is a sexist pig. But then again, he is not very well-educated; he never even got the chance to enter a local university because his grades are so bad that they rejected his application. You tend to expect such ignorant comments from dumbasses like him. Just to make myself feel better, I told myself that he is just jealous that I got a chance to study in a university of my choice.

There is also another type of adults that I hate: provokers. Provokers are dumb people with low-self esteem who loves to make annoying comments about you because it makes them feel good. Here is a conversation between my mom and one of her moronic colleagues:

Moron: (talking about a student who is currently studying in his alma mater; this student created an iPad application that can help track criminals) Which university your daughter is in? [Insert my university name here]? Hah! They don’t even have students like this guy over here.
Mom: My daughter’s university ranked higher than your alma mater. Get over it and stop trying to provoke me.
Moron: Ah whatever, but it is not even in the top 10.
Mom: Whatever it is, my daughter is better than you, you fucking moron!
Moron: *startled* *walks away quietly* (certainly did not expect the “fucking moron” part)

*sobs* Proud of mom; She got balls of steel!

I am very loyal when it comes to my university. Who doesn’t, right? I am sure that you are proud about which university you came from. Doesn’t matter which university it is. You would always be proud with it because it will always be very close to your heart; it is another important chapter in your life and it is where you meet your secondary family members. And listening that this guy is trying to talk shit about my university, it certainly pissed me off. And my mom? She is just a tiger mother who is protecting her baby cub from being taunt by this loser.

Oh well, it doesn’t matter which university I came from anyway. What matter is the individual themselves. You can be a graduate from one of the top universities but if you are not a motivated person who is not interested in challenging yourself to do awesome things, that piece of paper you achieved from your university will just be a normal piece of paper.

If you visited my blog before, I did disclosed which university I am currently studying in on my about page. I removed it since I don’t want to disclose my location.

My mom is similar to me; she doesn’t like to socialize as well. I guess her reason is the same as mine: we want to avoid morons.

But then again, the term “social recluse” or “anti-social” is not always valid when you are describing Renetta Renula. I turned into a social butterfly when I am in a conference; it excites me when I see people that shares the same interest as me and I just want to talk to them more and get to know them.

If you plan to get married in the next few weeks or few months, please don’t invite me. xoxo

So, It is Already 2012? So, was 2011 a good year for me? Indeed it is! I travelled, met lots of new and interesting people (and a few morons), maintained good grades and my blog was featured lots of times on other sites and CSS galleries. This will be a very long post with lots of pictures.

Entertainment

Watch a musical in Singapore called Wicked. It is my first time ever watching a musical; I never watch one before. Surprise, surprise… I love it! I plan to watch more musical in the future: Chicago, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, etc.

I travelled to Portland, Oregon last November. I went there for the Grace Hopper Conference and it was fun. I met a lot of interesting people here; people who shared the same interest as you. I managed to see the city as well. Oregon is beautiful!

I went to the Universal Studios in Singapore and tried out all of the rides there. Apparently, they have a new ride but I haven’t try that one yet. I was planning to go last month but it was raining heavily in Singapore and Malaysia. It is not the best time to go. I might go again this summer.

Got myself a new MacBook Pro. I am now an Apple fangirl. I have been using windows since I was born. I LOVE MAC!

Games
I beat a few games last year. Despite being a gamer, I don’t play as much last year since I don’t really have the time to play. But, here are the lists of the games that I managed to play (and beat the last boss to a pulp).

Assassin’s Creed 2

I never played the first one since I don’t really like this sorts of games. But I bought Assassin’s Creed 2 one day and decided to try it out. Initially, I disliked the gameplay since it was slow and boring. I even complained on Facebook that I don’t see why this game is famous since it extremely slow. However, some of my geeky friends urge me to give it a second chance and play the game until Chapter 5 or so. Surprisingly, the storyline gets pretty interesting and I started enjoying it once I started to assassinate some characters. Although I had a rough time understanding the storyline (since I didn’t play the first one), it doesn’t really affect my gameplay and I still enjoyed the game. If I have the time, I wanted to try out the first Assassin’s Creed and Assassin’s Creed brotherhood. I bought Assassin’s Creed revelation but haven’t tried it. I was hoping to beat Assassin’s Creed Revelation last month but I don’t have time since I was busy with Dead Space and Dead Space 2.

Dead Space and Dead Space 2

Dead Space is pure awesome. I love Resident Evil and Silent Hill’s series. Unfortunately, Resident Evil 5 is not that scary anymore. It doesn’t retain its original horror genre. It feels more like a war game like Battlefield or Call of Duty. Dead space, however, is really awesome. It was a nail-biting experience. Enemies will jump at you unexpectedly; I get quite jumpy after playing the game for about an hour. It is quite addictive since it has a good storyline; you would want to play it till the end just to know the ending.

There is one down side though; the final boss fight for Dead Space 2 is not as awesome as Dead Space. However, Dead Space 2 has more cinematic bost fights compared to Dead Space and Dead Space 2 is scarier as the main character keeps on hallucinating. Non-stop adrenaline rush when I played this one. It took 5 days for me to finish both of them.

Shadows of the Damned

What is it like walking around in hell with just your “Johnson”? This game is a fun one and it has such a weird storyline. Garcia (main character) wants to save his girlfriend from Fleming, king of the underworld. It has a lot of profanity and sexual innuendos; It makes the game even more enjoyable. My favorite character is, of course, Johnson, Garcia’s sidekick (the gun that he is holding). I have a few of my favorite parts in the game. One of them is the Big Boner chapter where we get to shoot monsters with an upgraded version of Johnson. It is another chapter filled with sexual innuendos.

I love the music; it is composed by Akira Yamaoka, a composer that composed the songs in Silent Hill. And I also love the graphic; very vibrant in color but it has a “moody” feeling to it at the same time. There are a few downsides; the game control is a little weird. Also, you don’t get to replay the game with all of your upgraded weapons. Therefore, it is useless to play the game multiple times since there is no point in playing the game more than once without those upgraded weapons. Upgraded weapons are important to me if I want to play the game more than once.

School Life
It is always important to network. Most importantly, be nice to your seniors. I managed to gain so many experience because some of them love my work and they either suggest me to the professors (who are looking for research assistants or web developers) or take me as an intern to work on their projects. Which reminds me, I need to send each of my seniors a thank you note for giving me a helping hand. Some of them gave me really good advice and I appreciate that. I do love my seniors. As for my juniors, that is another story. *coughtheyaresoannoyingcough*

A paid internship with one of my seniors (he is an alumni). He asked me to create a prototype for a web application that he plans to work on. I learn more about jQuery and Backbone.js. It was such a good experience!

Worked with the Computer Science department on their website. Again, I have to thank one of my seniors for giving me the opportunity to work with him.

I get to be a Teaching Assistant last semester. It was my first time since I never had any experience in working as a teaching assistant before. I was the Teaching Assistant for statistical reasoning and practice. Again, a good experience. Grading papers are both hard and annoying, believe me!

My GPA for both Spring and Fall semester last year: 3.75 and 4.0. I hope I can keep it up and maintain my performance.

Mom had to buy me both an iPad and a MacBook Pro because she is happy and proud!

Professors telling me straight up in the face that they are impressed with my work. It motivates me to work harder.

Life as a Bitch
Because life can’t be wonderful all the time. Why? Because not all people you interact with are nice; some are extremely stupid, dumb and can’t keep their mouth shut. For example:

Mr. Twat who told some of my classmates that I told another student to do my homework for me. Mr twat is just a below average student who majors in Business Administration. You can read the whole story here. Listen, I have nothing against BA students. In fact, some of my friends are majoring in Business Administration and they are brilliant. I can’t say the same thing about Mr Twat though. I guess he is just a jealous bitch who can’t accept the fact that I am better than him. Seriously, his allegations are not even logical to begin with. Seriously? Me? An Asian student who is raised by a tiger mother would ask someone to do my work for me? Mr Twat is not only dumb but he is also ignorant about the fact that most Asian students are just plain hardworking and they can ace almost everything effortlessly (you’ll know that I am talking about the common stereotype that Asians are just plain smart)

Lady Gremlin. Where do I begin with this bitch? Talked shit about my family on her blog and her father ignored it and said it is the “freedom of expression” but when I started to express my feelings about her openly on Facebook, he got pissed. Such double standards! Oh, the irony! He is not that smart for a doctor me thinks. Can’t even understand the concept of “free speech” and “freedom of expression”. After sending him back an extremely long private message explaining what exactly is the freedom of expression and why I have the rights to express myself as well and also telling him that he is a shitty parent because he had raised an ugly child (inside and out; I emphasized more on the “inside” though. Don’t care much about “outside”.), he finally told her to delete her blog and she did. We are not talking to each other but I guess it is better this way. It is better not to associate yourself with such a person. This is such an important event to me because I don’t have to act all hypocritical and be nice in front of them. Her blog opens the Pandora’s box but I think it happens for a reason. I can finally tell him how I feel about him, his daughter and their whole family. I don’t have to put up a fake smile anymore; it is so liberating.

Last but not least… Rogue-Dolls
I changed my blogging theme last year and you are looking at it now. It got popular and most of my visitors love it. I got featured many times in CSS galleries and design blogs. I just want to say thank you to all of you who had featured my blog on your website/galleries. It does give me a lot of exposure and it helps me gain many new readers. I even receive many job offers through my blog but I have to decline them since my top priority is to study and learn as much as I can for now. I know that most of my visitors are probably not interested when it comes to reading about my life update and my adventures. I also seldom post helpful articles that would help retain my visitors. But knowing that they love my design and my blogging theme and that I can inspire others to start designing – that really makes me happy. Thanks guys, it really means a lot to me. Thank you to all the sites mentioned below:

CSSMania

Vandelay Design

WeLoveWP

CssGirl

Blog Design Lab

Noupe

Entheosweb

Web Design Showcase

…and to all the sites/galleries that I may have forgotten to include here.

Even though the current blog theme receives a lot of praise, it does receive some criticism as well. This thought me a very important lesson; not everyone is going to enjoy your design. At the end of the day, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some designers even gave me a list on what I should change about my current theme design (including the way I blog since this blog contains a lot of profanity Some even ask why my picture only shows my mouth). I was about to re-design my blog but I changed my mind. While I value their criticism, I have the rights to choose whether to accept it or not. Their criticism is their opinion and not all opinions are correct. I am happy with my current blogging theme and I designed based on my own input and whatever makes me happy. If people enjoy it, I’ll be extremely happy. If they don’t, I’ll still be happy as well. I don’t see the need of designing based on other people’s opinion or input since it is MY BLOG. It belongs to me. You can’t please everyone.

Jascha Heifetz, a violinist that I adore, is regarded as one of the greatest violinist. And believe me, he does put a lot of emotions in the songs that he played. Even with such a talent, he is still not immune to criticism. So, even if you are awesome, not everyone is going to like your work. So, just move on and don’t stop doing what you do best.

High Heels Are For Dumb Girls

Personal

Funny

Offline

School

I love high heels but I can’t find the energy to wear them. I remembered when I told one of my friends about how I can’t walk flawlessly in heels but he just replied by saying, “High heels are meant for dumb girls. You don’t need them.”

He is not the only one who thinks high heels are for air-headed girls. I was pointing out a girl who was wearing a 5 inch heels to another friend of mine:

Ren: Check out that high heels on that girl! That is pretty cute! Some of the girls here are pretty fashionable.

Friend: Yeah. The height of their heels are inversely proportional to their brain.

I don’t agree with him that high heels are only meant for girls who are not academically gifted. Geeky girls who are fashion conscious can wear them too. However, I can’t help but notice that there is a bit of truth in what he was saying. I noticed that most of the intelligent girls (who often get into dean’s list or are widely known for their talent in their own respective majors) tend to wear flat shoes, flip flops or plain sandals. Most of the girls who are not as academically gifted (some are very moronic) tend to wear high heels that are no less than 3 inches high. I know that this is very stereotypical since it is a just based on my daily observations but I hate to think that some of my friends believe high heels are only for dumb girls just because they seldom see geeky or smart girls in heels.

As one of the studious students, I have to say that I do not like wearing heels because it is just not practical. I love wearing flats; it is very convenient: slide in, slide out and just run whenever you are late for class. I won’t be able to run to my classes in a 5 inch heels right? I guess this is how most of the studious students feel. We value practicality and we don’t give a damn about our looks. At least I don’t and I don’t mind walking to class with my pyjamas.

Two days ago, I went to a premium outlet here and I can’t take my eyes off from this nice pair of high heels. I try it out and it fits me. I tried walking with it for a bit and it wasn’t so bad. The sole of the shoe attracted me the most since it is really unique and it seduced me. I just can’t resist and ended up buying them.

Hi assholes. Would you like me to print this sole on your face? If you do, please keep on talking. – Ren’s thoughts when she first saw the heels.

And yes, it is a 5 inch heels. And yes, I am going to put them on and walk, walk, walk. I have been told many times that I am tall for an Asian girl. I stand at 5’8″ and that is around 173cm according to Wolfram Alpha. So, wearing this heels would definitely boost up my height even more. Mom told me that I look at least 6 foot tall with those heels on.

Personally, I don’t think so high heels are only meant for dumb girls and I don’t think girls who loves wearing them are dumb. My aunt loves wearing heels and she is one of the smartest women that I know. I guess I should just put this heels on and show them that stereotyping girls based on their shoes are just stupid. Besides, there is no harm in looking sexy once in a while, don’t you think?

<!-- Performance optimized by W3 Total Cache.
