Life is busy and we always try finding time for ourselves. We see improvement in ourselves by taking reference form our past. But, do we remember our past well ?

Here, Journal keeping comes to our rescue. A journal acts as our friend, our private space in this world where privacy has become a rare thing. A journal helps us to store our past for our future references and to see how we evolve as an individual over a period of time. It also serves the purpose of recording random thoughts and ideas because we don't realize how important they are. Sometimes, it also serve the purpose of recording our dreams and later, motivating us to achieve them.

I remember watching a TED Talk by Dennis Hong where he mentions about keeping a journal beside his bed to record his random ideas before going to sleep and sometimes the next morning he found something very ingenious in his journal.

If you are still not convinced about the usefulness of maintaining a journal, you must read this.

I have always tried maintaining a journal but never succeeded in doing it. I always wrote few pages, got bored and started procrastinating. My lack of interest in using a pen and paper was one of the major reasons for my failure in maintaining a journal. (Yes! I have a poor handwriting )

On the other hand, I was serious about having a journal and recording my simple life for self realization. Since I am a computer guy, I started looking at technology for solutions.

Personal blogs over web and desktop software were not an option because I wanted something which is always with me and I can write down my memories whenever I want, even while traveling in a local bus. My Smart Phone seemed to be the obvious solution and the huge android app market served me well.

Memoires: The Diary- A free app from android market which helps us have a journal where we can record our life events, thoughts and save notes.

- Supports Tagging of entries

- Captures photos and records audio in entries

- Stores weather information and geo location with entries (data connection required)

- Password protection

- Export and Backup

- Shares entries over email and social networks

Another free app available on android market for the same purpose is Private Diary Free. But the free version has advertisements and lacks few features like adding photos and user tags. These features are present in the paid version of the app at 96.94 INR. But who likes to spend when you can get the same thing for free !

I am using the Memories: The Diary regularly to maintain my own journal and I love the feature of tagging the entries which keeps my memories well organized. Furthermore, this app also supports storing geo location for the entries which is helpful to record my travel.

Conclusion: A must have for any android device if you want to have your journal and paper and pen are not your companions.

I am Rohit Sinha. I was born and spent my childhood in Patliputra, (now Patna) the capital of ancient Magadha dynasty near the river Ganges. I did my schooling from Loyola High School, Patna. The first time I laid my hands on a computer was in my fourth grade computer lab. I started spending a lot of time after school hours playing around with the computer and exploring beyond what was taught. The early exposure to computers and programming in my school kindled my interest in Computer Science. Being a programmer at heart, I chose to take up my interest as my career and obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) degree in Computer Science from B. V. Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering and Technology, Hubli – Karnataka, India in the year 2011.

Presently, I am working with MindTree Limited – India. I work for their Product Engineering Services (Research and Development Services) on Embedded Technologies, majorly on Linux platform.

Here I share my experiences with technology, general ideas and thoughts, memorable moments of my life and anything which interests me. Hope you’ll enjoy reading.

When Facebook Cheated Us...

We were quiet, We were uniformed. But they did it !!!

We all loved the new Facebook profile (except few, for some unstated reasons). We switched to it, we talked about it, we shared it, we appreciated it.

But Facebook had a very different plan.

Facebook introduced a smaller font size to its News Feed about a month ago. The lack of communication from Facebook while making a significant change is sadly nothing new. I don't think many of us noticed it but there are many people who were very much upset with this change. But why did they do it??? Just because they wanted to give more strain to our eyes? Not exactly!! It infact was a pre-requisite for their big bang !!

Then, they introduced Facebook's New Profile and promoted it as much as they can. But they cheated us by displaying all the benefits of the new profile.

But they didn't mention anything about some other changes.

They took away our personal social space of updates and gave it to their advertisement block

In the old profile, the ads had a photo with text below it and now, the text is alongside the photo. The old profile had an ad-width of about 160 pixels while the new edition now clocks in around 245 pixels, 53%(approx) increase in ad-width. The ads used to be around 230 pixels in height but now they are around 140 pixels. This makes Facebook possible to show more number of ads above the fold. The overall size of ads has not changed a lot but surely they are more denser and grab users' attention(generally distract) more quickly.

In addition to this, the text size of ads are same whereas the text size of news feeds has been reduced.

The most interesting part is that, once you have switched to new profile there no way to go back, unlike others who give option to revert back changes(like Orkut).

Its so amazing that Facebook is least bothered about their users while considering majorly on revenues. The causes are unknown but some people like Shel, Israel have asked Mark Zuckerberg to step down from CEO post of Facebook.

It seems that Facebook is now acting as anti-Google...

People-search has few disavantages as well. There are many issues related to it. Privacy is one the major problem. There are many things which we accidentally put on the Internet but wouldn't want ithem to be displayed in public.But, with tools like this which can go so deep, nothing can be protected.

These websites generally have provision to remove personal details on request but it takes time. Generally, you can ask for removal of your personal details by sending an email to their support team.

It is still unpredictable how the world will react to this new domain of search. 5 years ago, sharing your relationship status online was complete NO! NO! But now, some people change their relationship status on facebookalmost daily!!!. But one thing is for sure, the game will completely change if search engine giants enter in this domain.

Who knows what the future has in store? But for now, you can search about anyone you want

Building your resume is a tough job! You might think that's a simple task until you start making one. But once you start with it, you'll experience how tough it actually is.

Many people face a lot of difficulty here, especially engineering college students . The usual process is: Searching for a few good resumes on the Internet and then editing them as much as possible, or simply copying your friends' resume (With a lot of sarcastic comments from them...But hey, we are friends,so we can share everything! ).

So, here is a very simple and easy way to create an effective resume avoiding all the hassles.

Yes, and that too using our favorite M.S.word processor on which an engineering student spends years writing reports. But, How?? That's simple :)

So, let's get started :

Open MS Office 2007 or 2010 (I am not sure whether earlier versions have this option or not).
Click on "New"
1. Office 2007: Click on the Microsoft Office Symbol on left top corner and, click on "New"
2. Office 2010: Click on the "File" button and then click on "New"
Now you can see several options on your left-hand side. Go to "Resume" and pick your favorite sample.

Edit it using your content and there you go..You have your elegant resume ready in minutes.

There are so many options in "New" which many of us don't know, like: Bussiness Cards, Certificates, Invitation Cards, Letters etc... You can explore them all :)

Begining Computer Graphics with OpenGL

The term computer graphics has been used in a broader sense to describe "almost everything on computers that is not text or sound".^[1] Typically, the term computer graphics refers to several different things:

the representation and manipulation of image data by a computer
the various technologies used to create and manipulate images
the images so produced, and
the sub-field of computer science which studies methods for digitally synthesizing and manipulating visual content, see study of computer graphics

To start playing with all the graphics, all you need is a computer with a monitor to display some graphics :).

As the title says, i will deal only with OpenGL here.

2) Ubuntu Users: Open terminal and run :

sudo apt-get install freeglut3-dev
