Are you a Bed Surfer?

First of all there are two major types of bed surfing that I know of. The first type is like the guy in the cartoon who surfs the web via his laptop from the cozy comfort of his bed. The second type of Bed Surfing is when you stand up on top of your bed while you pretend to be riding a surfboard. Yes, people actually do this. See these bed surfing YouTube videos if you don't believe me. The type of bed surfing that we will be referring to in this blog post is the first type.

Now back to the question. Are you a bed surfer? Can you relate to the guy in the photo or do you think he is strange or nerdy? Don't worry. If you are a bed surfer and can relate to the guy, you are not alone. There are many people like you who prefer to surf from the comfort of their sleep sack. The only problem with bed surfing is that it may cut into your sleep time. This can happen because people might tend to rationalize that they are resting because they are in bed. However, you have to keep in mind that you are still working your eye balls. In addition, you might lose track of time and find yourself still up at 3 or 4 in the morning on a school/work night. Helpful Bed Surfing Tip: If you have an alarm on your watch or an alarm clock with dual alarms, you might want to set one of these alarms at a predetermined shut off time. This will serve as a way to snap you out of your web surfing session and back into reality. Hopefully, you will then shut off the laptop, shut off your eye balls, and get some sleep.

The intention was to use the same basic color scheme/layout as the original, but to refine and spice up the original graphical concept. I think the results speak for themselves.

Above is the original Rolee Polee "No Mouse" symbol with incorrect "slash".

The Rolee Polee "No Mouse" image is based on the universal symbol for "No" also called the "No Symbol" or "Prohibition Sign". I just noticed that the Rolee Polee symbol has the slash going in the wrong direction. The official "no symbol" from Wikipedia shows a "back slash" whereas the Rolee Polee symbol shows a "forward slash". I am going to bring this up with the Rolee Polee graphics department to see if they can get this fixed and if so, I will post a brand new version of the Rolee Polee "no mouse" sign/symbol right here on this blog entry.

9/20/2010 - BREAKING NEWS: THE ROLEE POLEE XT HAS FINALLY ARRIVED!

Let's Take a Look at the XT
We at Rolee Polee Dot Com are really excited about the new Wireless Rolee Polee XT. It's got a similar handheld trackball feel as the original Rolee Polee. It's even got the "trigger-clicker" down below just like its famous cousin. One of the first things you will notice is that it's got a strange looking trackball, but once you insert the batteries, you'll discover that the strange ball lights up as you roll it. Although, I found the lighted ball to be cool, I was much more impressed when I found out that the trackball is an "optical trackball" that doesn't require periodic cleaning like the regular "roller" type trackballs. Optical trackballs also give better overall performance and reliability over standard trackballs.

Stays True to the Rolee Polee Philosophy
The Rolee Polee Philosophy is simple and it can be summed up by three basic principles. 1. It has to be handheld. 2. It has to have a real trackball. 3. And it has to have a "trigger" style left mouse button on the bottom. I am happy to report that the new "XT" stays true to the central Rolee Polee philosophy. I would estimate that there is about a billion people still using standard computer mice and who have not yet discovered the Rolee Polee technology or philosophy. That gives us Rolee Polee users a nice advantage over the rest of the population still living in the computer dark ages.

Now let's take a look at the wireless aspect of the Rolee Polee XT. It comes, of course, with a little receiver that plugs into any available USB port on your laptop or desktop computer. The interesting thing is that they designed the XT with powerful RF technology, which allows the XT to be used as a PowerPoint* mouse. The side benefit is that it gives the XT a long range of 50 feet, which means you'll probably never run out of range when you use it as a personal trackball unless you live in a really big house with really big rooms.

Whether you use a desktop or a laptop computer, the Rolee Polee XT makes a great choice as a wireless trackball solution for most of your computer needs.

WHAT IS BED SURFING? - "Bed Surfing" is the practice of surfing the internet with your laptop computer while you lie in bed. Some people refer to it as "Crawling into bed with your laptop". A Rolee Polee handheld trackball is ideal for bed surfing in that it allows you a wider range of positions for your hands and arms. It allows you to assume a more relaxed position. For example, with the Rolee Polee you can place the laptop above the covers while your hands and arms remain under the covers. The only time you need to bring your hands out of the covers is to access the laptop keyboard.

SUPPLY LIST: WHAT YOU NEED FOR BED SURFING - The first item you will need is, of course, a bed. Next, you will need a laptop computer. The good news is that these days you can easily find a brand new laptop for under 500 bucks. I'm referring to a new line of laptops called "mini notebooks" that typically cost less than $500. In addition to the laptop, I would highly recommend a handheld trackball like the Rolee Polee to provide more comfort and flexibility. The Rolee Polee is like the "icing on the cake" in that it extends the great flexibility of a laptop computer. Lastly, I also recommend a laptop cooler or some type of protection between your laptop and the bed covers. Without protection, the laptop could possibly overheat.

UNPROTECTED BED SURFING: - The downside to bed surfing is that laptops are not compatible with bedding materials like soft, thick, insulating comforters or blankets. Without protection the laptop will sink into the blankets, which will block ventilation and could cause the laptop to heat up or even overheat in many cases. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you use some type of laptop cooler or even a plastic or wooden tray between your laptop and the bed covers. The QuadCooler is ideal for Bed Surfing because it is light weight, provides balanced cooling with its 4 fans, and it is powered by the laptop which means you won't have to search for a power outlet prior to bed surfing. The moral of the story is to always use protection before crawling into bed with your laptop. Laptop Coolers

YOU CAN'T "BED SURF" WITH A MOUSE: - The computer mouse was invented over 40 years ago and "Mouse Technology" has certainly evolved over the years. You can find fancy, high resolution, laser guided mice, but regardless of the fancy technology you still have to drag the mouse on a smooth flat surface (desk top, table top, etc) and most mice still require a mouse pad. Therefore it makes it very impractical to Bed Surf with a standard mouse. The Rolee Polee, on the other hand, is a handheld device that does not require a flat surface of any kind and is therefore ideal for surfing the web in your bed. Why are people destroying their computer mice?

Could it be that they are sick and tired of the old "Drag Mouse on Desk" routine? Why is it that there are so many "crush mouse" videos, but I didn't see any "crush trackball" videos. Is it just a coincidence or is there something behind all this?

Contrary to popular belief, many experts say that the main cause of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is Genetics. They conclude that although work conditions can make CTS (carpal tunnel syndrome) worse, they say it's not the root cause of the problem. I think most people label all wrist related injuries as CTS, however, that may not be the case. In any regard, does it really matter if you have CTS or just some other type of wrist injury? Pain is pain no matter what you call it.

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Well basically, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or CTS (sometimes called median neuropathy at the wrist) is a medical condition where a nerve called the median nerve is pinched inside the wrist. This can lead to pain, numbness, or weakness in the hand. Notice that Carpal Tunnel Syndrome affects the hand not the wrist. This is why there is a distinction between Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, repetitive motion wrist pain, or work related wrist injury.

What is a Trackball Roller?

A trackball roller is mechanical component typically made of rubber or a rubber like plastic compound. The Rolee Polee trackball has a new white or light gray colored trackball. A good trackball roller will have two important features. It will have good grip or traction. The other important feature is that it is durable and has a long tread life. In many ways a good trackball is like a good automotive tire. See close up photo of trackball rollers

How to clean a trackball. Basically, you just remove the trackball ring and trackball and clean the little rollers very carefully. You can use a finger nail if you've got them to scrap off any lint or dust that accumulates on the rollers. You can also use a small flat tip screw driver, but be very gentle. You don't want to mess up the trackball rollers. Finally, when you are done scrapping and the rollers look nice and clean, take a can of compressed air and blow out the whole trackball assembly.

Welcome to the Rolee Polee blog. This is the very first post of the new Rolee Polee blog. The Rolee Polee trackball mouse was named "Rolee Polee" after those cute little bugs that curl up with you touch them. The Rolee Polee mouse has nice rounded corners like the rolee polee bug and it has a trackball that "rolls". Therefore, we thought the name "Rolee Polee" was well suited to this unique product. Super Rolee Polee - Check out the following video. It shows a massive super rolee polee bug. I've never seen a rolee polee that big. I wish we had them that big over here then we could fry em up like shrimp. Technically they are isopods which are in the same family as shrimp.
