Director of hockey operations Paul Bailley was extremely pleased with the turnout for the August 29th tryouts for the selection and evaluation of the 2010 – 2011 McBuccaneers. An early morning meeting with McDonald’s owner, Cynthia Samour had brought good news to the team that they and McDonald’s would be continuing their relationships with the community of Greenville and Taylors with Red Ribbon week and the fan favorite, “McDonald’s powerplay free fry” giveaway. ” The relationship with McDonald’s and Cynthia is not only with our team, but with the community. We look forward to another season of working with McDonald’s to give our fans the best promotions we can in PIHA”, Paul Bailley had to say.
With over 36 participants total in a back to back weekend tryout, the SC McBuccaneers and Raleigh Dragons both set a record for the largest free agent camp(s) attended in the history of the McBuccaneers and Pirates (Myrtle Beach) history.

” I was ecstatic with the turnout and the quality of players at this year’s evaluation and free agent camp”, Paul Bailley, director of hockey operations had to say.

With both organizations finishing their camps, both Raleigh and SC will announce their rosters for the 2010 – 2011 season within seven days. SC will announce their roster on September 1st, Wednesday at 12:00pm, (www.scbuccaneershockey.com) while Raleigh will have theirs posted by early next week (www.raleighdragons.com).

The pro McBuccaneers were injected with “new blood” as several former opponents, showed up to claim a stake with the pro team. “It was great to see players we played against and now they are capable of helping us become even more competitive show up and want to play this year”, Bailley added.

Both Raleigh and SC will open their season in late October. Schedules will be announced by mid September. Tickets will be available again on ticket web, www.ticketweb.com for all SC McBuccaneer and Raleigh games.

Dear Coaches, Managers and High School Roller Hockey Fans,

Like many of you, roller hockey for the IHF Board is a year round activity.
It’s been only a short while since we closed out the 2009-10 IHF Season and now
here we are nearly at the start of the 2010-11 Season. We’ve been busy and
working others on everything from schedules to a new division, rules, playoff
formats, sponsorships, new coaches committee, new IHF Spring Season, and more.
And we want to take a brief moment of your time to inform you of a few important
items of interest to you and your hockey club.

First, the annual IHF Coach and Manager Meeting – A must-attend event for every
club and team with plans on participating in the 2010-10 Season (one Rep per
team is mandy and Team Captains are encouraged to attend too!). The meeting is
Sunday, Sept. 12th from 4-7:00 PM and held in the posh training facilities at
the Yard House corporate offices near Spectrum in Irvine. We’ll be hosting
guest speakers and offering door prizes donated by our sponsors. A detailed
invite and agenda will be forthcoming under separate cover. Please plan to
attend and don’t rely on email for what you will miss at this season kick-off
meeting.

Second, the new Combo Division – a “Leave No Players Behind” program to assist
those disenfranchised players from teams with too few players to form and
players wanting to play high school hockey but with no team, is being introduced
to the League this season. If your team, or players that you may know of, may
be looking to reorganize and/or form a new team to play in this new division,
the Combo Division is already taking applicants. Attached is a flyer for some
more information, and details will be available at the Sept. 12th meeting.

Third, the 2010-11 IHF Season Schedule – a new format this year abbreviates the
Fall Season and adds the new Spring Season. Fall season highlights include:
Preseason begins Sept. 27th (5-games!); Regular season begins Nov. 1st
(10-games!); and Weekend tourney-style Playoff & Championships will complete the
season before State Cup scheduled for March, 2011. Attached is a Season Planner
provided for your reference.

Included in our Sept. 12th speakers’ list will be community members who will be
introducing the 4th annual Give Blood Play Hockey Inline Hockey Charity
Tournament which hosts a large high school contingent. A community-oriented
event and fun for the whole family, students and athletes alike can volunteer
for community service hours too. Please visit their web site at
www.givebloodplayhockey.org.

If you’re a Facebook user, the IHF now has its own Fan Page where it frequently
updates information and answers questions about high school roller hockey. Just
keyword IHF Hockey!

We’ll be sending more on the above topics again soon and look forward to seeing
you at our kick-off meeting.

Thanks in advance for passing this along on to folks who you think may be
interested.

Best regards,

Playing with classmates for your school colors and mascot is an important part
of the roller hockey experience growing up. Please help us to put these
student-athletes on the rinks!

Major League Roller Hockey has named Doug Jones, one of the sport’s pioneers, key players, and personalities, as Commissioner. In making the announcement, MLRH President and Founder Bill Raue said, “Doug has been an instrumental part in the sport of inline hockey since 1992 and is now building our league. I am delighted to announce that we came to terms in late August and he is on board with MLRH and will continue in a formal capacity.” Jones was elected MLRH Commissioner for the 2009-10 season by the MLRH Board of Directors and will now expand his involvement with MLRH as the Commissioners position will become part of MLRH management. “We want to keep our owners involved,” said Raue, “But we need a more permanent structure as we move forward.”

Jones grew up in Connecticut playing for the Middlesex Red Devils Youth Hockey program, participated in NHL rookie camps with two organizations, had several cups of coffee with different teams and leagues finishing his playing career from 1991 – 1993, for the Los Angeles Jets of the WCHL. In two injury filled seasons and playing only 28 games, he managed 5 goals, 13 assists and 18 points while racking up 98 penalty minutes. The Jets won the championship in 1993, his last season and Jones moved onto various roles with the Anaheim Ducks as a Coach’s game day Assistant and game player evaluator along with scouting video, while working with NHL Stanley cup finalists and champions such as Mike Babcock, Ron Wilson, Tim Army, Al Sims, Walt Kyle, Newell Brown and Paul MacLean. He also spent five summers running the Anaheim Ducks youth Summer Camps with former NHL six time all star, Charlie Simmer and five time Stanley Cup champion, Rick Chartraw.

Jones, was part of the success of the Anaheim Bullfrogs of Roller Hockey International after an ACL injury in 1994 had stopped him from being able to play. He worked with coaches Chris McSorley, Grant Sonier and Brad McCaughey with the organization until it folded in late 1998. Doug was also responsible for the first travel inline league with the Silvers, owners of the Bullfrogs franchise, where he coached “five” Junior Bullfrogs teams to their first state titles at the Arrowhead pond in Anaheim.

In 1997, He began a 10 year stretch as the Director of Hockey Development for the Wayne Gretzky Roller Hockey Centers. Doug also ran the Great One’s International Hockey School making stops in Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. During his tenure with the centers, Jones oversaw operations of five facilities including one on the east coast and four on the west coast. The centers at one time boasted membership of over 15,000 active players with all ages participating, until closing in late 2006. During that time, he won national championships at the NARCh and State Wars AAA and AA levels. A former state director for California for two years, Jones had amassed over 18 medals, a feat that has yet to be matched. He also played with the Professional inline team the SC Bulls, who were finalists in PIHA for two years.

Jones has also coached ice at the collegiate level with Long Beach State (the 49′ers) who the Pacific championship in 1995 and has coached successfully at the youth level in both ice and inline working with several current NHL players and draft picks all playing at various levels. Doug has worked with over 100 players who have moved onto collegiate, professional and coaching careers.

Currently, Doug lives in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where he and his wife, Dawn owned and operated the South Carolina Buccaneers of the Major League Roller Hockey League, the 2009- 2010 South Division champions. The Jones family includes three children, Shayne,(17) Justin (17) and Samantha (8).

Jones has since sold his interest in the Buccaneers to avoid any conflict of interest while serving as MLRH Commissioner. In addition to his position of MLRH Commissioner, Jones will serve as a scout for the Danbury Whalers of the newly formed Federal Hockey league.

A considerable turnout for the Dragons team tryout was exactly what was needed as a first step to get the 2010-2011 PIHA season in Raleigh underway. Team manager and captain, Ray Matz, ran an extensive tryout for fifteen potential Dragons players that included both returning players and new faces. In review of the tryout, Matz stated how excited he was for the upcoming season and the opportunities it holds in regards to not only hockey, but to work in the community as well. The array of players that showed considerable skill in this past weekend’s tryout will hopefully prove to be a sign of great achievement and accomplishment for the Dragons in this coming season.

The 2010-2011 final roster will be released shortly along with the season schedule.

The top 10 skaters and 2 best goalies selected from the extremely competitve 1992 division at State Wars were all named to Team North America and recognized as the best players in their birth year. The 12 great players will also receive a $1000 college scholarship from the “Pride & Honor College Schoalrship” fund organized and funded by Tim McManus and State Wars Hockey. “Each year it is an honor to give out these 12 college scholarships to the future leaders of the sport and the world, this year was exceptionally rewarding as the competition in the select 1992 division was simply incredible” said State Wars Hockey National Director Tim McManus. “A true testament to how strong this division was the fact that four different members of our staff predicted four different winners for the division, with Michigan coming out on top after some incredible playoff games” added National Director Greg Thompson.

Each player will receive a $1000 college scholarship to go towards the college of their choice in 2011. Next summer, the 1993 division will be up for these prestigous awards.

Congrats to the following winners: Ryan Kish (MI), Matt Garb (BC), Kyle Novak (MO), AJ Ehinger (PA), Matt Sexton (MO), Dustin Lebrun (BC), Joshua Foote (AB), Keith Long (MI), Garth Penman (CO), Nathan Gerger (PA), Ewen MacPherson (AB), Jacob Gaddis (PA).
