/news/news.php?uid=705

Recorded 40 years ago to the date and released nearly two years later on Sticky Fingers, "Wild Horses" has remained a perennial crowd favorite, constant cover and critical darling for decades, appearing at #334 on Rolling Stone Magazine's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list.

Covered perhaps most famously - and recently - by Britain's Got Talent sensation Susan Boyle, the band's own reworking of the song for their 1995 acoustic live album Stripped might just be the definitive one, but we'll leave that decision up to you.

One thing not up for dispute is the hushed excitement that envelops the crowd when the band launches into "Wild Horses" in concert. Those lucky enough to see have seen the band polish this number off and perform it live will know the feeling. Whether you're among the lucky or not, you can experience it with a newly available video of the band performing the haunting song at their 1976 headlining performance at Knebworth Fair. Originally shot for the BBC, but never screened, the video can now be downloaded, along with newly remastered audio of the original song and its live Stripped counterpart on the Wild Horses EP, available exclusively in the UK from iTunes.

Click here to get the Wild Horses EP from iTunes UK today.

U.S. fans: The EP is currently not available in the U.S. store, but you can get the remastered version of Wild Horses from Sticky Fingers here and the remastered live version from Stripped here.

 /news/news.php?uid=701

Mick Jagger returned to the Madison Sq Garden stage last week as U2's surprise guest during their performance at the 25th anniversary of the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame.

Without any introduction Mick strode on stage to sing an unbelievable version of "Gimme Shelter" with U2, Black Eyed Peas' Will I Am on keyboards, and Fergie recreating Merry Clayton's apocalyptic vocals. Mick then stayed on for a rousing duet with Bono on U2's "Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of."

In the U.S., four hours of highlights of the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame will air on November 29 at 8pm ET on HBO.
Box Set Details

November 27 and 28 marks the 40th anniversary of the Rolling Stones concerts at Madison Square Garden that yielded the Rolling Stones' epochal live album, Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! Reviewing the original album in the November 12, 1970 issue of Rolling Stone, the late Lester Bangs wrote: "It's still too soon to tell, but I'm beginning to think Ya-Ya's just might be the best album they ever made. I have no doubt that it's the best rock concert ever put on record."

It's 40 years later and that statement remains as true as ever. In recognition of this historic occasion, ABKCO Records will release Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! The Rolling Stones In Concert: 40th Anniversary Deluxe Box Set and Super Deluxe Box Set in the U.S. and Canada on November 3rd. Both Box Sets will be released internationally by ABKCO and Universal Music Group on November 30th.

The Deluxe Box Set comprises three audio CDs including a remastered disc of the original Ya-Ya's repertoire as well as a disc of five previously unreleased Stones tracks recorded at the Madison Square Garden shows. The third CD encompasses unreleased performances by the shows' stellar openers: B.B. King and Ike & Tina Turner, five songs from the former and seven songs from the latter. The Box Set also includes a 56-page Collector's book featuring photos and an essay by Ethan Russell, the acclaimed photographer who accompanied the Stones on the '69 tour, whose book Let It Bleed: The Rolling Stones, Altamont, and the End of the Sixties is being released on November 2nd. The package also includes the original review by Lester Bangs, a series of recollections from a cross-section of fans who attended the concerts and a postcard size replica of the original Stones '69 tour poster by David Edward Byrd. There will also be a code enabling fans to download "I'm Free (Live)" for Guitar Hero 5 in a limited number of Box Sets.

Included as well is a bonus 27 minute DVD presented in 5.1 surround by legendary filmmakers Albert and David Maysles, also entitled Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! The film includes brilliantly shot full-length performances of the five previously unreleased Stones songs -- "Prodigal Son, " "You Gotta Move," "Under My Thumb," "I'm Free" and "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction." Beyond the song performances, the film includes a sequence with Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts and Jack the Donkey during the cover shoot for the Ya-Ya's album, and backstage meetings between the Stones and some of rock music's most legendary artists.

The Super Deluxe edition of Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! The Rolling Stones in Concert is the same as the Deluxe with the addition of three vinyl LPs, one of which has etched images featuring the cover art and the Rolling Stones signatures.

Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! The Rolling Stones In Concert is available worldwide at RollingStones.com, as well as through Amazon.com (click your country's flag below to order from your local Amazon store). Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! Wood, an accomplished author of paintings, prints and sketches, as well as guitar lines, is working with Liberty of London to create a range of tees, dresses, scarves and more.

"I wanted to work with Liberty of London because of the great tradition that Liberty has of artistic collaborations going back to the very early days when Liberty first opened," says Wood. Come autumn, the "Ronnie Wood for Liberty London" line will be available in stores. Until then stay tuned to RollingStones.com for the latest updates.

From the ragged brilliance of 1971's Sticky Fingers to the unbridled energy of 1978's Some Girls, it was a decade of music worthy of celebration. To commemorate this fertile decade for the band, Universal Music Enterprises and JamsBio invite you to create your own Rolling Stones top-5 lists and to play the '70s Stones edition of the "Scrumbler" game. Solve five puzzles and you'll be automatically entered to win one of these great prizes:

One Grand Prize Winner will get a Fender Road Worn '50s Telecaster® guitar. Since then, "Brown Sugar," the opening track of the band's classic Sticky Fingers, has become a blues-rock classic.

/news/news.php?uid=691

Beginning on May 5th, fans of The Rolling Stones will have much to rejoice about with the arrival of re-mastered versions of "Sticky Fingers," "Goats Head Soup," "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll" and "Black And Blue."

And it doesn't end there. The band will continue their reissue campaign with Universal Music Group with the reissue of "Some Girls," "Emotional Rescue," "Tattoo You" and "Undercover," out on June 9th in the US and June 8th worldwide. The third round of reissues will follow soon thereafter with "Dirty Work," "Steel Wheels," "Voodoo Lounge," "Bridges To Babylon" and their most recent album of all new material, "A Bigger Bang."

Astute fans will notice the absence of the masterful "Exile On Main St." from the release schedule. Hailed by Rolling Stone magazine, where "Exile On Main St." was rated the 7th Greatest Album Of All Time, as "Jagger and Richards' definitive songwriting statement of outlaw pride and dedication to grit," no one has forgotten about the marquee album, least of all The Rolling Stones. A late 2009 reissue of "Exile On Main St." is being planned as part of a wider celebration that will accompany its release.

In a nod to the band's diehard fans, UMG will also be releasing a collector's box in which to house all 14 post-1971 studio albums, as well as making the catalogue newly available digitally.

More news will be available shortly.

 /news/news.php?uid=690

Keith Richards duets with country star George Jones on the title track of Jones' recently released Burn Your Playhouse Down: The Unreleased Duets. The album, out on Bandit Records, features never-before-released duets
between Jones and a host of varied musicians recorded over the last five decades.

Keith first met George Jones when the Rolling Stones shared a bill with him in 1964 on their first tour of the
US. Three decades later, Keith took a break from the band's 1994 mixing sessions for Voodoo Lounge to record "Say It's Not You" for Jones' album, The Bradley Barn Sessions.

Now, 14 years later, fans can again enjoy the interplay between the two. Click here to get your copy of Burn Your Playhouse Down: The Unreleased Duets or download the title track from Amazon or iTunes.

 /news/news.php?uid=688

On June 9, 1978, The Rolling Stones released Some Girls, re-establishing their reputation as the pre-eminent rock 'n' roll band of their time.

In an era dominated by punk and disco, Some Girls managed to absorb the sound and swagger of both while reclaiming lost ground for rock 'n' roll and belonging entirely to the Stones. No small feat and neither was what would follow.

Some Girls shot to #1 on the US charts and #2 in the UK upon its release and the album's first single, "Miss You" - with its pulsing drums and Sugar Blue's wailing harmonica - became the band's eighth #1 single in the US and a staple of the band's live show for the next 30 years. Many of the other tracks on Some Girls would go on to be released as singles - "Beast Of Burden", "Respectable", "Shattered" - and even more would work their way into the band's set lists in the years to follow. Fans will take note that the band's recently released, Martin Scorsese-directed concert film, "Shine A Light," featured more songs from Some Girls than any other one album in the band's catalogue.

In the end, Some Girls' greatest legacy may not be what it brought to the world, but what it brought to The Rolling Stones, in the form of Ron Wood. The studio sessions, and proceeding 25 date tour of the US, marked the beginning of Ron Wood's fulltime appointment to the band and, 30 years later, no one's looked back.

In honor of 30 years come and gone, The Rolling Stones official store is pleased to announce a special 30 hour anniversary sale. Beginning on June 9 at Noon EST and lasting until June 10 at 6 PM EST, all items in the Some Girls department will be 30% off in honor of 30 years of Some Girls.

Celebrate 30 years in style - get your Some Girls merchandise while the anniversary sale lasts.

And enjoy our brief look back on Some Girls through the years, complete with quotes from the band, a bit of memorabilia and a mix of live and promotional videos. Members of RollingStones.com are invited to weigh in on the legacy of Some Girls on the message boards all this week.

"There aren't any filler tracks on this album. The band was most aware of avoiding that. From the start we KNEW the album was going to be full of strong tracks. Anything slightly dodgy was shelved. I know people expect this album to be great. And I don't think anyone will be disappointed." - Ron Wood, 1978

"Some Girls was kind of like Beggars Banquet. Like we'd been away for a bit, and we came back with a bang." - Keith Richards, 1982
Some Girls was not without its fair share of controversy. Lucille Ball, Marilyn Monroe and others protested the use of their images on the cover, and ultimately the band put their own faces in place of the famous women. The original cover finally saw the light of day with the Virgin re-release of Some Girls in 1994, and has since gone on to grace a variety of Rolling Stones products over the years, including a Some Girls puzzle. "It was a really great record. I seem to like records that have one overriding mood with lots of little offshoots. Even though there's a lot of bases covered, there's lots of straight-ahead rock and roll. It's very brass-edged. It's very Rolling Stones, not a lot of frills." - Mick Jagger, 1995
So throw on your Some Girls LP, or get your copy from iTunes, and groove to Sugar Blue's wailing harmonica on "Miss You," and be sure to head over to The Rolling Stones official store to celebrate 30 years in style.
/news/news.php?uid=687

On July 29, Paramount Home Entertainment will release Shine A Light, the much heralded concert film from Academy Award®-winner Martin Scorsese and The Rolling Stones, on Blu-ray and DVD. Filmed during The Rolling Stones' historic 2006 two-night stand at the legendary Beacon Theatre, Shine A Light thrilled audiences in theatres and IMAX across the map earlier this year before making its debut for the home theatre.

Along with a brand new featurette with a behind-the-scenes look at The Stones rehearsing on stage at New York's Beacon Theater, candid moments with the band and celebrity guests and archival footage not included in the feature film, the Blu-ray and DVD release of Shine A Light will come to viewer's homes with four never-before-seen bonus performances from the historic run, including "Paint It Black," "Little T&A," "I'm Free" and "Undercover of the Night."

Whether you missed Shine A Light in theatres or just want to relive the action from the comfort of your couch, be sure to get your copy of the movie Jeffrey Lyons called "one of the most thrilling films in years" and the New York Times labeled as "a rip-roaring concert documentary."

The Shine A Light DVD is presented in widescreen enhanced for 16:9 TVs with Dolby Digital English 5.1 Surround and English, French and Spanish subtitles. The Blu-ray disc is presented in 1080p high definition with English 5.1 Dolby TrueHD and English 5.1 DTS Master Audio and English, English SDH, French and Spanish subtitles.
