Injury plagued Ronaldo targets January return

El fenomeno may be looking for a return sooner rather than later, with January being touted as a possible timescale in which Ronaldo R9 will reach his full fitness one more.

This was after ronaldo r9 injured his knee ligaments earlier this year - playing for his previous club Ac Milan in which he has now been released.

Ronaldo R9 has been out of action since February, and hopes to return in January - if he can find a club according to his doctor.

The 32-year-old's physiotherapist Bruno Mazzioti told Radio Brasil that the player hopes to train next week with Flamengo.

"He'll train with Flamengo. Then his idea is to return to action in January 2009 although it remains to see which club he will play for," said Mazzioti.

Ronaldo R9 was released by Ac milan after it was considered that he was more of a liability, what with his injuries and apparent lack of fitness back in July this year.

Since then however, Ronaldo R9 has been started the business-end of his rehabilitation, and training with a view to gaining his full fitness once more.

In the summer, Man City have been linked with a move for Ronaldo R9 - although this is something Man City have denied.

The former world player of the year recently took part in a charity match, but only lasted 22 minutes before being subsituted, blaming it on the exhaustive regime he was following to return to action.

Ronaldo who has since expressed his hurt and shame over the incident, is adament that he was not in the wrong, having not done anything illegal - yet it deeply embarrased over the whole incident.

"We always had a good relationship and while I think that what Ronaldo did was not right, I am never going to give up our friendship for that," said Adriano to globoesporte.com.

"He is Ronaldo and he is a big name. If that had happened to another person, nobody would talk about it.

"These are lessons to learn from this incident. I also went through some difficulties and I know how he must feel," Adriano added.

So what can we make of this from Adriano?

Firstly that Ronaldo is now over the worst of this and can now concentrate on getting back to his rehabilitation and looking to gain full fitness. Ronaldo R9 has not had the best of luck with injuries and will need all the support and motivation to come back to anything that was like his best.

Put into context - he is only 31, will be 32 next year and this 2008-2009 season with whichever club will be the defining chapter in Ronaldo r9's career. With Milan looking uncertain to renew or extent his contract which ends in June this year, Flamengo wait in the distant horizon with open arms for Ronaldo and possibly even a shock return in World Cup 2010...

Above all the media focus, controversy and more angles cast than even Pythagoras oould have bettered, we see Ronaldo the human, and he made this past week, a public confession to his family, friends and worldwide fans.

Ronaldo admits he is "sorry and ashamed" over the scandal.

"It was an isolated and stupid act," the three-time FIFA Player of the Year said on Globo's hugely popular "Fantastico" program. "I'm sorry and ashamed."

Ronaldo said he was unaware they were transvestites and is deeply sorry for his actions - Ronaldo was out celebrating Flamengo's victory over rivals Botofogo although retains the fact he was not drunk.

"I feel very ashamed speaking about this matter. It was an isolated act, an act of complete stupidity on my part. I never knew what a transvestite was. I am completely heterosexual.

"My error has created a major problem of global impact. But thank God all the facts are coming to light. I've spoken to my attorney and everything is being investigated and will be proven.

"Certainly this will tarnish my personal life forever. But it will not interfere in my position as ambassador for Unicef. And this will not interfere also in the advertising contracts I have. This is an isolated act that will not happen again."

Ronaldo has made a very big mistake indeed and this will have no bearing on his future career, although has recently broke up with girlfriend Maria after word of his affair broke.

"I made the stupidest mistake ever of my personal life," he said. "Anyone can make a mistake, and I made a big mistake."

Brasilian star Ronaldo has been caught up in a scandal involving three cross-dressing prosititutes this Monday week.

Ronaldo had allegedly just dropped off his girlfriend at her house when he picked up three girls only to discover that they were in fact transvestites.

One of the people involved, Andreia Albertine, videoed the footballer emerging from the motel on her mobile phone's camera and the video has been posted on video-sharing website Youtube.

From here reports and facts are patchy, with some claims that Ronaldo threatened to hit one of the 'girls' who accused him of asking her to buy him drugs according to local press reports.

Ronaldo has hit back firmly denying he has ever using drugs, and reiterated that he was a victim of extortion.

Technically, under Brasilian Law Ronaldo has done nothing wrong - prostitution is legal - so it seems that although perhaps not morally correct - ronaldo r9 is in fact a victim of crime.

Ronaldo, according to Rio police superintendent Carlos Augusto Nogueira, "reported that Andreia had taken his car documents and demanded 30,000 dollars".

Nogueira added: "Ronaldo admits the facts. He said he just wanted to amuse himself, that's not a crime. To pay to have sexual relations isn't illegal.

Albertino is also accused of taking Ronaldo's documents and threatened to extort the Brasilian star $30,000.

Pato: Stop Comparing Me With Ronaldo R9 & Pele

Since his introduction into world football, Alexandre pato has attracted a lot of attention and much of this is deserved, with the prodigious young striker being compared to ronaldo r9 - brasil striker.

Pato, like Ronaldo R9, joined Milan in 2007 and since january 2008 when he became eligible to play for AC Milan, has had a rich vein of form. Scoring 7 times in 13 games in Serie A - inevitably leading comparisons to selecao star ronaldo.

Ronaldo R9 eyes Flamengo stint before full AC Milan Return

Ronaldo R9 has recently expressed his desire to join Flamengo on a loan deal as part of his rehab process.

Ronaldo, Ac milan striker, injured his knee earlier this year, setting him back at least nine months before he can return to full training.

The Brazilian startlet believes a stint at Brazilian side Flamengo could help his rehabilitation process - before entering Serie A action with AC Milan.

"I am not giving up," Ronaldo told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "I don't see myself without football.

"I am working four hours a day in order to recover.

"Before I can think of Europe and Milan, I would like to spend a couple of months at Flamengo."

Ronaldo R9 added that his scheduled nine-month rehabilitation programme was progressing well.

"For the time being everything is okay and the doctors have given me hope, telling me that the knee is healing well," he said.

Ronaldo's deal at Milan ends this summer although AC Milan, specifically Silvio Berlusconi has stated his wish to extend his contract for a further year.

It is important not to second guess the rehab process, although a stint at Flamengo could well go some way to improving confidence and Ronaldo technique as he gets his touch back slowly out of the limelight of Serie A.

This could well then ease him into 2010 WC contention - although will need to prove he is worthy ahead of Luis Fabiano (in fantastic form), Alfonso Alves (undoubedtly better than Alves although form is crucial) etal.

Former Real Madrid maestro Zinedine Zidane has tipped his ex-teammate Ronaldo R9 to make a triumphant return after his recent injury woes.

Having suffered a second knee injury within 6 years, it seems that Ronaldo r9, if he is to gain full fitness faces an extraordinary challenge to return to his former greatness.

Zidane, has however, moved quickly to contradict Pele, with the Brazilian legend having previously stated that due to Ronaldo's age he will never again hit peak form.

Ronaldo R9, who is out recovering from a serious knee injury, this last week rejected Pele's claim that Ronaldo will not return to his best, both for AC Milan or Brazil national team.

Pele on Friday said it would be "difficult" for Ronaldo to recover and return to his level of play. "I'm actually glad he said that," Ronaldo told Radio Globo on Sunday night. "We all know Pele is known for making wrong predictions about everything. It usually happens the opposite of what he says."

"I know he is an idol and is asked about all subjects," Ronaldo said. "Sometimes that puts him in difficult situations."

On Sunday, close friend and former Real Madrid teammate Zinedine Zidane said he is confident Ronaldo will overcome the knee injury.

"Ronaldo already proved in 2002 that he can overcome very difficult situations," the retired French playmaker said.

The 31-year-old Ronaldo AC Milan striker, a three-time FIFA player of the year, ruptured a tendon in his left knee while playing for AC Milan last month.

Brazilian legender Pelé said he doesn't think that Ronaldo R9 will be the player he once was again.

This comes as the return of Ronaldo R9 is still in its early stages, with the brazilian yet to decide whether or not to come after football with a long and strenous period of rehab.

Brazilian legend Pelé who was present at a ceremony as ambassador of the Copa Liberatoders, also believe it will be tough to see the old Ronaldo again.
"I don't think Ronaldo will be able to be the player he once was," he said. "Medicine has made huge progress, but he's also a few years older now. I would be very happy if he would be able to come back at 100%, but I'm afraid it won't go that way."

What ever comes out of this news, it is clear that Ronaldo has a long, uncertian road ahead of him and this news comes as unwelcome to a player wishing to return.

Ronaldo remains confident of Return

Since suffering the horrific injury last month, Ronaldo R9 has started the long and winding road of rehabilitation to the eventual hope, of returning to football and the AC Milan set-up.

Although tough times are ahead, Ronaldo R9 is in good spirits, which is welcome news for football fans worldwide.

“It’s a little early to talk about making a decision however I am preparing for this action and that is to play,” said Ronaldo.

“I am feeling much better and the worst is over. I am no longer in pain and I have began to walk better. It won’t be long before I remove the crutches.

“It’s nice to return to Milan seeing all my team mates and the fact that I don’t feel in any pain is a good sign.”

Capello: Ronaldo R9 Better Than Van Basten

Ronaldo R9 fell out of favour at Real Madrid with Fabio Capello, but it was his former coach that jumped to his backing - declaring ronaldo the best player he had ever coached.

He had a difficult relationship with Capello although Capello has since praised the Brazilian's ability and mentality.

Flamengo wait for AC Milan's Ronaldo "with open arms"

As we heard earlier in the season, Flamengo had allegedly been given the go ahead to enter negotiations with startlet Ronaldo R9.

Even so, Ronaldo R9 suffered a serious knee injury, with his future in doubt, it is uncertain whether ronaldo will be able to return to the game.

However, Flamengo president Marcio Braga, has told AC Milan striker Ronaldo R9 that very much remains open, for a suprise move to the team he supported as a child.

Braga said: "We would welcome him with open arms, he knows us well. We are ready to make him an offer.

"It would be fantastic to have him with us. Ronie is negotiating a renewal of his contract with Milan, he must make a choice. He knows that Flamengo is willing to wait and help him recover."

Whether or not ronaldo r9 does sign for Flamengo, it is important his rehabilitation process is compelted fully and the player's health and mental health is back.

Ronaldo absent AC Milan, crash out of Champions League

Result: Arsenal 2- 0 AC Milan

Without Brazilian star striker in their squad, out with a serious knee injury, Milan failed to make it through to the quarter finals against Arsenal.

Milan's attack looked blunted and could not use their vast experience to force the issue in a the first half where Arsenal were the better of the two sides.

Milan open brightly enough, with Maldini's header at the near post only thwarted with Cesc Fabregas' goal-line clearance, but once Arsenal got into their stride, they created many good opportunities to score.

Adebayor and Fabregas, who had seen a lot of the ball in the first half looked increasingly likely to score with Fabregas hitting the top of the crossbar from a 20-yard drive.

In the second half, Almunia did well to turn over Pirlo's dipping free kick, although it was on the 70th minute, that Wenger made the bold move of bringing on Theo Walcott, that changed the tide of the match. Within four minutes he almost set up a goal, only for keeper Kalac to stretch out a leg and block his cross with a collection of Arsenal players waiting to pounce.

Arsenal almost paid the price for their lack of clinical finishing in front of goal, when with 12 minutes left, Alexandre Pato was only inches off target with an angled shot that took a deflection off Senderos.

Arsenal finally got the goal they deserved with six minutes left when Fabregas burst through centre of the pitch, with yard of space and sent a low shot into the corner past the despairing dive of Kalac - who was suprised the shot was hit as early as it was by Fabregas.

And a stunning performance got the final flourish it deserved when Walcott crossed perfectly for Adebayor to turn in at the far post.

With Milan out of the Champions league and their title hopes gone, they seem to have failed this season.

Although Ronaldo was not in the side that won the Champions League, it is his kind of instinct, pace and guile that could change the match and with Gilardino looking lost in the supporting striker role and Inzaghi well covered by Gallas, the Milan attack lackted the golden touch.

Good luck to Arsenal and all the other teams left in the tournament, it was a great match for the neutrals with chances at both ends - sadly though, Milan, Champions league title holders, are out of the tournament thanks to the brilliance of a rising star in Cesc Fabregas.

Ronaldo, el fenomeno's contract runs out this summer with AC Milan and while the club have expressed their loyalty to ronaldo, the progress on contract talks will only be made after monitoring the Brazilian's progress.

Thus, Milan seem unlikely to offer ronaldo r9 a new contract for a few months yet, meaning that ronaldo is likely to be out of a contract by 1st July - leaving him to be a free agent on the market.

AC Milan faced off against Sienna this past week and it was teenage sensation, Alexandre Pato who scored yet again in a storming start to his debut season at the San Siro.

Giving his side the lead on the 55th minute with a storming drive, Alexandre Pato remained solemn about his true thoughts and feelings, were with Ronaldo and his bid to recovery.

"When I celebrated, I was thinking of Ronaldo. It was a good feeling, like last year when I scored in the derby for Internacional," said young Brazilian striker Pato.

Ronaldo R9 ruptured a tendon in his knee during last week’s match with Livorno, and he has described how he felt the moment this happened:

“At the start I couldn’t stop crying, as there was an incredible pain,” El Fenomeno told Sky Italia.
“I felt a very strong crack and immediately my mind raced over images I had already seen. In that moment I thought the right thing to do was give up after this had happened to me again.

“At the time I thought I’d try to recover so I could live a normal life and rest, because I have been playing for many years.

“But in those moments of sadness so many things go through your mind. I was defeated, on the floor, but slowly there is the chance to come back and I will fight until the bitter end for that possibility.”

As with any injury it is always a very scary, tense moment in any professional's career.

Ronaldo: I Will Return If There Is No Pain

Ronaldo R9 ruptured his tendon in a Serie A match against Livorno.

Ronaldo will be out of action for at least nine months as he recovers, although many people believe that he may never set foot on the field again.

“This isn’t the right time to think about it, because everything is still so fresh and recent,” he replied in response to these kinds of reports. “I have to focus on my recovery now, which will be very long and difficult. “Then at the end, if I really am fit again, truly do not feel pain and have the confidence to step on to the pitch, I will certainly return to the playing field.”

Eric Rolland, the surgeon who operated on Ronaldo, said the striker would "not be able to run before up to five months and not be able to train before nine months."

He added: "Anything can happen in the next three months because surgery is not an exact science. It will all depend on the rehabilitation.

"The recovery will not depend on Ronaldo for the first six months. It will all depend on him afterwards. Psychologically, he is a remarkable man."

We wish Ronaldo the best of luck with his rehabilitation process and hope he can come back from his third serious injury in recent years.

Ronaldo Luis Nazário de Lima, better known as Ronaldo started his roots in a poor neighbourhood in Rio de Janeiro.

The footballing world may be embracing the latest Ronaldo injury, his ruptured right knee is likely to take nine months to fully heal and until Ronaldo can train back to full fitness.

However, taking you back to 1999 we can see where the tale of the knee injuries began...

On 21st Novemeber, 1999, during a Serie A match against Lecce, Inter milan starlet Ronaldo felt his right knee buckle under him. He quickly slumped to the ground in pain, writhing in agony, thinking the worse had happened.

The worst had happened. Ronaldo had ruptured his right knee severely and would immediate require surgery if he had any chance of a return.

This laid Ronaldo off the pitch for some months, finally making his comeback on April 12th 2000. Having only been on the pitch for seven minutes in a Coppa Italia match vs Lazio, he injured his right knee once more.

This required a gruelling test of Ronaldo R9's motivation and focus, with 20 months rehabilitation.

Ronaldo came back, led Brazil to 2002 World Cup, became world player of the year, earned himself a lucrative contract at Real Madrid and the rest is history.

But we shall always remember the day el fenomeno was felled, with the world at his feet, down and out seemingly.

Putting the latest injury into perspective, it is clear that he is older, and it will be harder for him to recover. There are more risks of further damage, long-term injuries even chance he will end his career, right now.

Ronaldo to decide on playing career

After injuring his knee severely last Wednesday, Ronaldo has undergone immediate surgery to his left knee in a Paris hospital.

AC Milan and Brazil striker Ronaldo said on Friday he had yet to make a decision about his playing career after having knee surgery that will rule him out for at least nine months.

At a news conference Ronaldo had this to say to the press corden as he before leaving the Pitie-Salpetriere hospital in Paris:

"I haven't decided yet what I should do but I'm ready for anything"

"I have the will to carry on playing, this is what my heart is telling me to do.

But my body is giving me signs that it is tiring and needs rest," he added (speaking in Portuguese and Italian, with Milan sports director, Leonardo translating.)

"I know that physically and mentally it will be very hard. If at the end of the day, I have recovered and can play again, fine. If not, it will be a very hard decision to make but it will have to be the decision."

The surgeon who operated on the 31-year-old, Eric Rolland, also operated on Ronaldo 8 years ago when he injured his knee, this time with Inter Milan.

He said he would "not be able to run before up to five months and not be able to train before nine months.

Ronaldo has not had a full run of games this season because of a series of injuries and the Champions League holders have yet to commit to a new contract.

Ronaldo played down the ontract situation, saying: "I don't think it's the right time to talk about a new contract. I'm sorry that things have worked out like this."

We will see in eager expectation the role of AC Milan in Ronaldp's recovery - who still has a very steep climb with at least 9 months until he can train properly. This leaves him with a possible return early 2009, January if all goes well.

We hope Ronaldo can come back to full fitness as he is a player who at his peak, along with the likes of Zidane and Maradona, defined football.

AC Milan vs Arsenal Champions League

Arsene wenger's side always faced a tough task, against current UEFA Champions League title holders.

Things started brightly for the visitors as Milan progidy, Alexandre Pato, flicked the ball over Cesc Fabregas showing deft touch, and had his volley blocked by Kolo Toure. The Gunners centre-back was forced off injured and, while the home side were a man down from a corner, Maldini had a near post header palmed to safety by keeper Lehmann.

Arsenal showed great hunger and attacking threat in the final third of the pitch with Cesc Fabregas, Nicklas Bendtner, Emmanuel Eboue, Mathieu Flamini all having sights on goal - but could not make their chances count against the Italians.

Adebayor was gifted a golden opportunity in the last seconds of the game, in the 93rd minuted to statch it, when he headed a point-blank opportunity onto the cross-bar saving Milan from a difficult position when they face at the San Siro.

"We didn't take advantages of the chances that we created," said Wenger. "We were a bit forceful and a bit nervous in the final third or our finishing situations."

"Milan defended with a lot of experience. They adapted to the situation in thinking they would be under pressure and that they would have to defend well, which is what they did."

"But, overall, we played a fantastic game and it's a shame that didn't get us a goal."

No English side has ever beaten Milan at the San Siro, but their coach Carlo Ancelotti refused to write off Arsenal's chances.

"Qualification is still in doubt. We are not yet safe for the return match," he said.

"We're not sure of going through because Arsenal have shown great quality and we know they can do it in the return."

Ronaldo Surgery, 'goes smoothly'

Ronaldo, underwent a knee surgery this past week in Paris after his serious knee injury against Livorno, in a Serie A match last wednesday.

'The three-times World Player of the Year, who ruptured a ligament in his left knee on Wednesday, was treated at the Pitie-Salpetriere hospital in the French capital.'

Knee specialist, Gerard Saillant, who had previously operated on Ronaldo's right knee eight years ago, when he suffered a similar injury in Rome with Inter Milan, said "The operation lasted around two hours and took place without any particular problems."

"It was the same injury as the previous time and for this reason the operation was of the same type.

"Now Ronaldo will have to go through nine months of rehabilitation."

Asked if the Brazilian would play again, Saillant replied: "It will depend on him."

Milan president Silvio Berlusconi said he believed Ronaldo would be able to resume his career.

"He still has an extraordinary physique. I'm confident in some months time he can return to be the player we all know," - Berlusconi AC Milan President

Ronaldo previously had 18 months out of the game coming back to lead Brazil to glory to the 2002 world cup glory.
