Walk Like an Egyptian?

I attended a Rock Band night a few night’s back.

Someone commented they wanted to play “Bangles.”

I responded, “A song called Bangles?”

I received stares of disbelief.

“How old are you?” one asked.

“I’m 28.”

“Well, I’m 28 too. Where the heck were you in the ’80’s?”

“In the Philippines.” I responded.

“Ah, that explains it.”

As they were playing the song, I started laughing, “Oh wait, I have heard the ‘German’ version of this song.”

I received some more weird stares.

Well, to show you all I’m not crazy (at least, not when I’m taking my meds), here’s the “German” version of Walk Like an Egyptian.

Terrorism Hits Home – Austin, TX

As most of you know, Austin, TX was hit by terrorism when a man with a beef with the IRS flew his plane into an office building.

For those that don’t believe this was a terrorist act, you’re wrong. Plain and simple.

I went by the site to see the extent of the damage, and I have to say that I was overwhelmed. I mean, I couldn’t believe a small plane was capable of that amount of damage.

My Favorite Glee Songs – Season 1

My sister did something evil last year, which was turn me on to the music/drama series Glee.

After watching several episodes, I admit I became emotionally invested in the characters and the songs they sing.

When Pampers Make a Woman’s Day

My friend April, a soon to be mother, called me one morning.

“Ron, you’re unbelievable.”

“Why you say that April?”

“I just received six packages.” she said.

“And?”

“You just made my day. No, in fact, you just made my week.”

“April, you do realize that two of those packages contain diapers.”

“Yes.”

“So effectively you’re saying I made your day by sending you some pampers.”

April laughed. “I didn’t look at it that way, but now that I think about it, you’re right.”

“Yup.” I said while laughing. “Now if only other women were so easy to please.”

Religion Against Gays

Religion should embrace Gay people.

My son is gay and he and his boyfriend are great people and we love them no matter what they decide as long as they are happy . They both have good jobs and believe what they want. Just as long as they are happy with their lives and what they believe in and with themselves, no one should interfere.

Religion is supposed to be good for us all. Fighting over religion or for the way the world should be makes me not want anything to do with it.

God , Allah , Or Mohammed etc. are suppose to be loving and care for us all, no matter what the circumstance. So why are people (and countries) fighting over what border or people belong to who?

Stop fighting and love everyone no matter what colour , race , creed, religion, etc. The world would be a heck of a lot better place for us all.

What Valentine’s Day Really Means

With Valentine’s Day coming tomorrow, retailers are pushing full force to get you to buy that special someone a Valentine’s Day gift.

The retail aspect of this holiday is absolutely absurd, and is one of the reasons I boycott this holiday.

Putting the retail aspect aside, however, Valentine’s Day is a reminder for a lot of things. Here’s a list of what people are reminded of when cupid’s arrow strikes:

You’re single! (neener-neener)
Your wife’s a gold digger!
Your man is a cheapskate.
You haven’t been laid in two months!
You’re too ugly to receive a Valentine (sorry).
You’re allergic to chocolate.
Your life’s dream has been to kill a real-life teddybear.
You HATE chocolate.
Balloons kill sea-turtles.
Your boyfriend’s in prison and…
You’re six months pregnant.
She’s too young for you.
He’s too old for you (but he has money).
He left me for someone younger.
For all gorgeous women out there, there is always one man who absolutely can’t stand her.
Do NOT go to any restaurants.
Avoid (ahem) parks and other romantic “spots” at night.
Do NOT listen to the radio.
That it might be fun to pretend you’re a serial killer for a day.
To send yourself flowers next year.
To laugh at all those “He went to Jared” commercials.
To regift that sweet sex toy you received last year.

Repealing the Great “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”

Last October I asked, “Should gays be allowed to openly serve in the U.S. military?” The survey results show that 58 percent of responders do not want gays to openly serve in the military.

In Obama’s State of the Union Address, he triumphantly declared that he would repeal the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” system in the military. It was met with thunderous applause on the left, but the military and the right outwardly showed their disgust.

Why is that?

According to Senator John McCain, the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy just works:

Well, first of all, I think — I know that it’s working. I spend a lot of time with the military. It’s working.

Further on, McCain speaks from the Soldier’s perspective:

So I think, again, when I talk to men and women in the military, they say it’s not broke, it’s not broken, so we don’t need to fix it.

McCain’s words, however, are in stark contrast with Admiral Mike Mullen, the nation’s top uniformed officer:

No matter how I look at the issue, I cannot escape being troubled by the fact that we have in place a policy which forces young men and women to lie about who they are in order to defend their fellow citizens.

Neil Macdonald from CBC News has is own take:

The military doesn’t ask, and as long as gay troopers don’t admit to anything, everything’s jake. Unless some third party rats one of them out.
In that case, regrettably, the offending GI must be discharged. Thousands have been: We honour your service, faggot. Now take a hike.

So we have two separate sides. And at the same time, we have a military who is still trying to figure out how to integrate males with females, much less how to integrate gays. For example, the Navy is close to allowing females on submarines.

This next quote comes from Nona (a military member):

I currently serve in the military. I know gay people outside the military. I have no problems with gay people its there preference. But i do know that i am against Gays being open in the military. Reason being is I am a male when i deploy or train there is limited privacy. Especially when it comes to doing personal hygiene. Also in the military males live amongst males correct. A females live amongst themselves. So if they allow gays to openly serve they will a have to make accommodations for them and segregate them.[sic]

And a conflicting view from Althea Tremaine:

The military has rules about fraternization and they should apply both ways– straight OR gay. The point people are missing is that these are basic human rights being violated. This is discrimination. Whatever happened to “all men are created equal?” Homosexuality is not a choice, and it’s not criminal.

The Bottom Line

The bottom line is that there are good arguments for both sides.

However, I would have to side with several people I know who are in the military: the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy works. No member of the military wants to be put in the situation where they are uncomfortable with the men/women they share close quarters with.

If the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy is repealed, I predict a surge of harassment charges, increased hazing, increased fraternization, and a lot of grumpy Soldiers.
