PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

As part of our celebration of British Jazz, we are opening our doors to amateur and semi-pro photographers in a rare opportunity to be the house photographer for the evening and to capture the essence of the BRIT JAZZ festival.

From 1st - 15th August, one photographer per night will be chosen. The images will be judged by renowned photographers David Redfern & David Sinclair and the winning image will be hung in the Club beside the myriad of legends already gracing its walls - and also displayed in the Getty Gallery during their exhibition in October, which is being curated by a high profile celebrity.

From established names to up & coming stars, over 100 musicians will play on the infamous Ronnie Scott’s stage over the course of the festival. This unique all-British line-up is already attracting a great deal of media attention.

If you’re a proficient photographer and would like to be considered for one of the evenings, please write to katherine@ronniescotts.co.uk with:

When their club first opened in 1959, Ronnie Scott and Pete King could only book British artists because of an MU ban on overseas musicians. Fifty years on, we celebrate our Golden Anniversary by paying tribute to those early days and presenting two weeks of all-British Jazz.

The Ronnie Scott’s Brit Jazz Fest, from August 1st-15th, celebrates British Jazz with a diverse range of home-grown talent, from established names to up & coming stars, covering all aspects of jazz music from traditional to funk.

We have chosen the crop of the British scene. From household names like Courtney Pine and Julian Joseph to new cutting edge bands such as Polar Bear and Get the Blessing, the range reflects the wealth of talent on the British jazz scene today.

Over 100 musicians will be performing over the course of the two weeks, with double bills each night, maintaining our tradition of presenting the finest in jazz.

In addition to the fantastic line-up there are a host of other activities to enjoy, including album launches, workshops & masterclasses, photography competition, and a quiz show with a celebrity panel.

And as it’s our 50th year, we're adding value to this amazing festival by offering some 50’s... with a special 50:50 PASS for only £50 you get a massive 50% DISCOUNT off your ticket for any of the concerts!

Award winning Broadcaster and Vocalist, Jumoké Fashola combines her love of music & spoken word in a series of monthly evenings at Ronnie Scotts Upstairs, designed to stimulate the senses, soothe the soul and energise the eardrums. The Jazz Verse Jukebox continues the age-old tradition of intertwining jazz and performance poetry, offering an opportunity hear some of the best established and up & coming performance poets; celebrity guests reading their favorite poetry; live jazz; plus a unique ‘jukebox’ open mic, allowing the audience to showcase their skills of jazz improvisation or spoken word.

ABOUT JUMOKÉ FASHOLA
Jumoké has sung most musical forms from Handel to Gershwin to Gospel, at venues including the Royal Albert Hall and the London Arena. Her solo repertoire comprises an edgy blend of jazz, R&B and soul, eloquently expressed and dynamically delivered. Time Out Magazine describes her as a “Head-spinningly versatile singer”. She is a graduate of Southbank Centre's Voicelab Pulse

She currently presents, Inspirit with Jumoké Fashola BBC London 94.9’s weekly faith & ethics magazine programme (Sundays 6am – 9am). She presented BBC London’s Late Show for three years. Other radio credits include, You and Yours (Radio 4) Pause for Thought (Radio 2), Everywoman (BBC World Service), Good Morning Sunday (Radio 2).
