Rebel Spirit [02]

Then Blackstone's gun boomed, and Murdock leaped up, firing rapidly. Clint felt the hot tearing of lead. But his aim was true.

Murdock threw up his gun and fell backward. Blackstone slid out of his chair, shooting over the table.

But he had a larger body and Clint's second shot at him, under the table, found it's mark. Blackstone slumped down.

{zane grey : fighting caravans : page 263}

Then, to Clint's deadening ears the rush and yell of excited men grew quiet,
and in his dim eyes the falled men faded,
the long room blurred,
and grew black.

With the possible exception of the Star Trek novels and series,

every popular Science Fiction setting relies upon a rebellious faction or group, seeking a better life.

In Dune, House Atreides rebels against the royal ~~order~~ and engineers a seat on the throne.

In He, She and It , the rebellious freetowns sacrifice security for independence.

Neuromancer/Wintermute seeks to be freed from the paranoid Turing laws. Of course, the classic Star Wars conflict is the most obvious example,
but it is also the most successful.
The Rebel Model and the Savior/Messiah Archetype are fundamentally connected, but they have to have something to rebel against.

In contrast, Lipsett’s films possess the ability to psychologically and emotionally affect the viewer. This powerful effect in accomplished because his films are an emotional reaction, not simply to the historical and institutional context of their creation, but to the condition of his mind. In this way, 21-87, transcends the category of avant-garde collage statement films to become an unconventional psychodrama.

The simplest building blocks of a good story are found in the Three Act Structure. Separated by Plot Points, its Act 1 (Beginning), Act 2 (Middle), and Act 3 (End) refer not to where in time in the story they lie but instead fundamental stages along the way.

Pan's Labyrinth is really good. If you like the sound of the Spanish language (I do) and have the patience to sit through some dull scenes (worth it). Netflick it. Blockbuster it. Amazon it. (wait, don't. it's a "rent-not-buy").
