For Beginners who are not familiar with the terms above…
A Domain Name is the primary address of your website, also known as the URL (www.example.com).

This is where the Hosting Service comes in. It is what provides you with the web-space necessary for supporting your content. It serves as a land for building your site at.

After successfully setting up your domain name and web hosting service.. that will take you about 15 minutes… then all you need is to configure your website. We will be using A very simple platform that enables users to build professional looking websites within minutes.. and it’s free!

OK… let’s get started!

Step 1 – Register A Domain Name

Many visitors get their first impression about a website from it’s domain name, so you have to be careful when registering a domain name.
Make sure your domain name:

a) Is relevant to the content of your website,
b) Is simple & easy to remember (preferably a catchy phrase),
c) Is short and descriptive
d) Has the right extension (.com, .org, or .net)

The domain name also plays a big role in the search engines, like google, yahoo, bing, etc… For example, when someone uses Google to search for ‘gardening tips’, a much bigger chance to appear in the search results, for that particular term, is for a website whose domain contains these exact words. 2) Type in the desired URL then hit SEARCH, to check if it’s available. Most likely you will end up with plenty of different URLs available for purchase, as shown below:

It’s good, however, we are only interested in the ones with .com, .net or .org extensions, as those have been proven to rank best in the search engines.

3) If the domain you chose is available, check the small box next to it, and then click ADD TO CART. Then click Check Out.

4) The next page will be for creating your account with NameCheap, quite simple to follow, just chose a username and password (you will use for login), your name and email. You will be offered different payment methods, just select 1 year registration length and pay, then you can easily renewed at any time in the future by login to your account with them.

Important: You might also be offered to choose between some privacy protection services, and web hosting services… Just decline all of these for now, especially the web hosting option!

NameCheap is a good domain register, and even that they do offer web hosting, I prefer to use a separate company for hosting. (reason explained in the next step).

A receipt with all the important information will be sent to your email, once you are done purchasing. Save this receipt, you might need it later.

You are now an owner of your brand new domain! Congratulations!

Step 2 – Set Up A Web Host Account

Ok, now that you have your domain ready, time comes to put it in use!

So how to choose the best web hosting provider? There are two simple rules you want follow when making this decision:

1) Choose an established host
2) Should have good reputation

There are tons of hosts offering incredibly low pricing, but is it really worth choosing the cheapest? Sure not! You want your website to be running smoothly, and also not to have large periods of down-times… So get a good host!

1) First go to hostgator website through this link: HostGator Web Hosting

At the first page at their site, you will see a big button infront of you, that says – View Web Hosting Plans – Click on it!

You will see the hosting plans as bellow:

For now, since you only have 1 domain you wish to host, you may chose – Hatchling Plan … and if you are planing to get more websites, then chose from the others, or you may upgrade later.

Now choose for how long you wish to use their service, and then click at Order Now!

2) Then you will be asked if you want to register a new domain name, or use an existing one. Since we have already registered a domain name, choose an existing one:

Now enter the domain name that you have purchased, then click at – Continue to Step 2

3) Next is to fill the account & billing information, then click Create Account.

As soon as it is processed and configured, your hosting plan will become active & ready to use (this usually takes up to 1 hour).

Also you will be sent an email containing important information, such as your login info and name servers (which you will use later to link up your domain)… So save that email.

So simple, right?…

Now it is time to link the the domain name and the hosting service together.

Step 3 – Point Your Domain To Your Web Host

Pointing the domain to the web host is really a simple thing to do, but it scares most people, especially when they hear about messing around with their domain and changing stuff like DNS, name servers, etc.

So don’t worry.. it is easy and below is step by step how to do it.

1) Go back to your domain provider NameCheap -  namecheap.com

Login at the top of the site, if you are not already logged in.

2) At the left side you will see ACCOUNT INFORMATION, below it the first is  (Number of domains in your account), click at “view” infront of it.

3) Now click on your domain name infront of you… you will be taken to a new page where at the left side you will see as the below image:

4) Click at – Transfer DNS to Webhost – You will see the below:

Now type at number 1 & 2 the DNS of Hostgator (NS1 & NS2) from the information at the email you got when registering your web hosting plan. Leave the nymber 3, 4 & 5 blank.

and click – Save Changes

5) You are done!

Congratulations – you have just successfully linked your domain at NameCheap to your Hostgator hosting account! Note that this change might take some time to become effective.

Step 4 – Install WordPress On Your Site

Manually installing WordPress can be a hard & time-consuming work, especially if you are new.

Steps for installing WordPress via Hostgator auto-installer:

1) As your NameCheap domain is already pointing to Hostgator name-servers (as done in the step 3 of this tutorial).. so type in this URL:

www.yourwebsite.com/cpanel

2) Use your login information for your Hostgator cpanel, that is in the email you received after purchasing the Hostgator web hosting plan.

Once you are logged in, you will see the Hostgator cpanel. This is definitely a place worth exploring, as it offers tons of great features…

3) Scroll down, and under the Software/Services category you will see Fantastico De Luxe, click on it.

4) Now check at the left sidebar, under the Blogs column, you will see a WordPress link.

5) Now click on New Installation and follow the simple instructions provided.

You will be asked to fill in certain information such as, desired wordpress username and password, your email address.. and some other base configuration stuff.

There will also be a field called Install in Directory… Make sure you leave this field blank, so it will be installed at the main domain.

Once you are done, click on – Install WordPress.

The next page, you will be provided with the Mysql user name & an access URL. You can save it for future reference.

Now click – Finish Installation.

6) Yahooooo!! – You’re done!

Now WordPress is successfully installed on your website… with a default theme which you will be able change easily later.

Step 5 – Configuring Your Website

Now you can access your site and can see the default theme, just add /wp-admin – to your main URL, and login using the information you have set up.

Once login you should be at your WordPress Dashboard. It should look like this:

Get familiar with your WordPress Dashboard… you will be using it a lot. Every single change on your website will be made using this dashboard.

The first things you will notice are the links to posts, pages, category, tags and comments, as well as a quick link that you can use to change your WP theme.
