CHRIS BREEZY GAVE two performances on the 2012 Grammy Awards this past Sunday, and he won an award. But apparently there’s a new show in town called “Everybody Hates Chris” starring Chris Brown.

Know why?

Because there are some folk who believe he had no business being on the Grammys.

Know Why?

Because they are still pissed that he put a “beat down” on singer Rihanna three years ago. Look, I say now like I said three years ago I do not condone a man abusing a woman nor do I condone a woman abusing a man. But at what point do people move on from what happened?

Chris Brown paid his dues. He moved on with his life. Rihanna moved with her life. I don’t hear Rihanna goining in on Breezy and trippin’ over the fact that he was allowed to perform on the show.

So why in the hell are all these third party outsiders like country singer Miranda Lambert and others baggin’ on him?

Get a damn life.

Breezy took to Twitter and fired back on his critics. And he had the right to do so. I know Breezy has had enough of people dogging him out about the 2009 incident.

What happened between Chris and Rihanna happened between them. Chris redeemed himself and at this point he owes no one another apology.

Was it ok for Chris Brown to perform on the Grammys? Are his haters making a big deal about nothing?

Let’s Talk…

NEW YORK KNICKS point guard, Jeremy Lin, is THE man right now in the NBA. In the lyrics of LL Cool J he’s “something like a phenomenon.” He virtually came out of nowhere in the past couple of weeks and has taken the NBA by storm.

Lin he was cut by two NBA teams. He rode the Knicks’ bench and was on the verge of being cut. Then …Booyah! Lin got some playing time and has help lead the Knicks to a 7-game winning streak.

He’s a Harvard graduate. He got game. His stats are off the chart…oh, by the way, he’s Asian American. And the fact that he is Asian has raised some eyebrows.

Is the hype surrounding Lin because he’s so good or because he’s an Asian player playing in a predominately Black male dominated sport?

According Boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Lin is getting all this love because he’s Asian. Mayweather posted a tweeted basically stating that Black players do the same thing Lin is doing but nobody’s making a big deal about it.

Hmmm…is this Lin hype just a race thing or is more than that?

Let’s talk about it…

ONE OF OUR greatest entertainment icons, Whitney Houston, passed away yesterday at the Beverly Hills Hotel. It’s reported that she was found dead in her bath tub. The media are also suggesting that her death is the result of a suicide or accident.

Let it be known, I’m not buying that our beloved sista committed suicide or that she accidentally drowned in the bath tub. Even though I don’t know what happened I am skeptical enough to know that the media rarely tells us the whole truth.

Through the Storm

Whitney battled substance abuse for years. She experience the lowest of low and she came through that storm. By some accounts, Whitney had overcome her addiction. The recent images and videos of Whitney that I saw prior to her death show a woman who looked good and who was in good spirits. So the news of her death left me numb and a bit confused.

I wondered what could have possibly caused the death a woman who had already survived the worst of the worst when it comes to substance abuse?

Scandals and Theories

In the next few days and weeks there will be all sorts of sordid stories surfacing about Ms. Houston’s life and death. These vultures will do what vultures do. On the flip side there will be theories about her death. Was she killed? Was this a blood sacrifice or ritual murder? If so, who was involved? Who was responsible?

We may never learn the truth of what actually happened in Whitney’s hotel room on Saturday, February11, 2012. But what we do know is that we lost a regal, beautiful woman who possessed an amazing VOICE.

The Voice

Whitney Houston was known as the Voice. So when we remember her let’s hold her up as a legend. She blessed and entertained us with her Divine Voice. Let’s also remember that she was more than a great singer. Whitney was also a daughter, a sister and a mother. So our heart and prayers go out to Whitney’s family and to those who really loved and cared about our beloved sista.

Whitney LOVED the Lord. She LOVED God. Nothing ever came between her and her relationship with The Most High. And there is no doubt that she is resting in the presence of The Creator.

Whitney, we will always love you.

WHAT DO YOU get when you mix a taboo subject, good filmmaking and an upper-class African American family? You get a short film called The Strange Thing About the Johnsons. I heard while kicking it in the Black blogosphere.

Someone wrote a blog post about the film. Strange is a short film that was released on the Internet and has caused quite a stir. It sounded interesting so I decided to check it out for myself.

I visited the film’s official website first to get a little bit more info. Basically, Strange is a student film made by a group of white dudes. Hmmmm, that’s interesting in and of itself. Anyway, when I read the full description of what the film is about I was like: “This can’t be right. This doesn’t make sense.” I was a bit confused. Know why? Because Strange takes a strange twist on a theme most of us have seen in movies before.

I’m like: Ooookay.

Anyway, I head over to YouTube to watch the film. Now, Strange is described as a dark comedy. Well, when I watched the film I didn’t see anything comedic about it mainly because the subject matter is so serious. My initial reaction is like this: How can you laugh about something that’s so jacked up. I must admit a few hours after watching the film there were a couple of scenes in which the dark comedy became more apparent. So Strange has a time release effect when it comes to the comedic undertone.

Nevertheless, the word “disturbing” is the most common remark viewers on YouTube made about the film – and rightly so.

Strictly from a filmmaking point of view, The Strange Thing About the Johnsons is very well done. The actors are convincing and well cast. The film’s mood, look and feel is right on point. The aesthetics of the film accentuate the theme of the film perfectly. I also like the fact that the sensitive subject matter is not portrayed in a way that is explicit or graphic.

Needless to say, the film’s shock value has a lot to do with the fact that this is an African American family. Know why? Because we don’t expect Black folk to behave in such a way. The irony here is that this is a beautifully made film that casts Black folk in the worst possible light.

Isn’t it “funny” how some of the best made movies about Black folk are actually the worst movies about Black folk.

Just watch The Color Purple, Precious….and, yes, The Strange Thing About the Johnsons.

Think about It…
