Impact of Compliance in Non-Profit Management

Recently, I had the opportunity to facilitate an evaluation assignment for an organization seeking certification from Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP).

The process reminded me how crucial documentation and compliance are for non-profits and it must not be considered as a burden or dikhawa, but as a pathway to credibility, transparency, and ultimately, greater impact.

In addition to that these standardizations and certifications processes provides a moment for the organization to reflect on it accomplishments, astonhishes them on the success, and make them realize what mistakes have turned into habits. It makes them realize how greater transparency and accountability can be a tool to scale-up and growth, instead of reasons to feel vulnerable and exposed.

From the perspective of Policy, institutions like PCP, provides an opportunity to standardize, formulaize and improve Pakistan's position in ever evolving global compliance landscape.

Every such mini-assignment and experience expands my perspective as a consultant, development practitioner, and — most importantly — a student of Development Studies.

It reinforces my belief that compliance is not just about ticking boxes of a checklist; it’s about ensuring that every intervention leaves behind a traceable, credible, and sustainable impact.

Exploring the unchartered territories of Pakistan Water Charter

Water policy making has undergone multiple paradigms shifts in the last three decades in developing countries e.g. managing water as an economic good, adoption of integrated water resource management paradigm, and shifts in responsibilities between level of government (Jensen, 2019). Pakistan is no exception. Pakistan faces severe water crises, with its per capita water availability declining from 5,260 cubic meters in 1952 to 860 cubic meters in 2025, shifting it from water stressed country to water scarce country. (Pakistan’s Water Crisis: Policy Challenges and Recommendations, 2018)

The increasing shortage of water in Pakistan has now become severe threat for food, energy and water security. (Pakistan Water Policy , 2018). As a call to action, a charter officially known as ‘Pakistan Water Charter’ has been signed among the provincial governments and federal government to declare a water emergency in Pakistan.

The signatories of Pakistan Water Charter acknowledge anthropogenic choices have led to resource depletion, emphasizing the need for urgent measures to mitigate the impacts of climate change. Melting glacier are increasing the risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) in the northern areas of country, intense monsoon rains causing flood in the central and southern part of the country, and poor integrated water management of Indus Basin is resulting into low yield or drought in many rural areas of Pakistan. This has greatly emphasized to take notice of the emerging water crises and climate change. This Water Charter has been successful in acquiring a consensus for sustainable consumption and production of water nationwide. However, this essay argues that while Pakistan Water Charter identifies the crisis, it lacks mention for climate adaptation strategies, which are critical in the context of Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate-induced water stress. Climate change mitigation strategies and climate change adaptation strategies must go hand in hand to provide a comprehensive integrated water management solution.

This essay highlight a policy implementation gap challenge, as water resources are a national responsibility dealt by ministry of Water Resources, but all sub-sector of water resources e.g. irrigation, urban water supply, disaster management etc. are provincial subjects after 18^th Constitutional Amendment (Pakistan Water Policy , 2018). This will make distribution of judicious water very complex and challenging. Therefore, during its implementation phase institutional logic may clash influencing the effectiveness of policy implementation, particularly in multi-actor initiatives e.g. irrigation (Michel, C. L., Meza, O. D., & Cejudo, G. M., 2022). Hence, the mandate and role of the federal government, provincial government and water related agencies/institutions will dominate the water policy’s trend, interpretation, and implementation.

Another critical gap is the lack of emphasis on integrated urban water management. Many of these water utilities do not provide adequate and reliable water services, especially in the non-connected areas which usually are suburbs, slums or unregularized settlement in the urban areas (Ahmed, 2008). Rapid urbanization has increased pressure on municipal water supplies, yet intent to enhance urban water security—such as wastewater recycling, infrastructure resilience, and flood management—are largely missing from the charter.

In conclusion, Pakistan Water Charter marks an essential step towards developing a consensus to acknowledge the country’s water crisis. It requires a stronger emphasis on political will, inter provisional coordination, technical assistance for integration of water related climate adaptation strategies and implementation mechanisms to transfer this ‘water constitution of Pakistan’ into an integrated, inclusive, and climate-conscious policy framework to protect water, food and energy security of Pakistan.

Changing Frequencies: Capacity Building Training on Radio Content Production

I reached late to Beach Luxury on 20 Jan, 2025 due to traffic jam on the main artery of Karachi Shahrah-e-Faisal. A pick-up truck broke down at Drigh Road, resulting into miles long traffic jam on in morning rush hour.

Missing the welcome note by Najia Asher, I joined the training from Session 1: Trends in Radio Content Production.

Hands-on Experience in Podcast Production

This session focused on the technical part of production, where Mr. Attique displayed and demonstrated mics, cameras, and mobile phones which can be used for making a podcast. A handson group activity was performed by participant to produce podcasts in natural light setting and studio light setting. The expert recommended that Google Pixel can be the best mobile phone which can be used for MoJo (Mobile Journalism).

The Business of Radio: Thinking Like an Entrepreneur

One key take away from this workshop was to think like an entrepreneur radio professional, instead of a salaried radio professional. Mr. Faisal from Pulse Communication shared his experience about how radio presenters on community radio in America, are now buying time slots from radio channels and make a business plan to sell their program multiple market techinques. This approach opened up new avenues for radio professionals like myself to monetize their content and reach wider audiences.

This initiative was funded by US Consulate Karachi. A quick brief of Green Alliance Framework: Advancing US-Pakistan Cooperation for Sustainable Development was presented followed by the most exciting session of the training.

AI in Radio Programming: EXCITING! SPOOKY! MESMERIZING!

Ayaz Khan delivered techincal skills with Artificial Intellgence in Radio Programming. I must confess, it made me feel I belong to stone age. The session comprised of hands-on training on AI tools for programming, reporting, podcasting. AI assisted scriptwriting, and podcasting training. My favorites tool was Notebooklm: https://notebooklm.google.com, which I am using as my digital assistant in my studies also.

The first day of the training was an great educational experience, I will share the next experience of Day 2: Advance Podcast Production and Content Development by Steve Youngblood in my next blog.

My Summer Reads

The current economic turmoil, political instability, judicial uncertainty, and military repositioning has influenced my bookshelf of the summer too much. My summer reading list compromises money management books.

1. The Psychology of Money: The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel. It is one of the finest books on understanding money and its management or we can say the relationship between Money and Human Behavior.

The premise of the book is that we think of earning money as rational and logical but we spend money based on emotions and psychology. It consists of independent chapters on money, saving, investment, and spending. It can be read interdependently if you need recommendations on some specific targets.

2. Intelligent Investor: Intelligent Investor is written by Benjamin Graham. First published in 1949 and revised in 1972. It is a comprehensive and classic guide to investing but if you are interested in understanding classic strategies on the share market or money market.

However, the downside of this is that all the examples of US stock and money market. So, relating it to Pakistani current. My one key away from this is to have a paycheck-to-paycheck investment. And I have used this strategy for long-term horizons i.e., my retirement.

3. Rich Dad Poor Dad: Rich Dad and Poor Dad is Robert’s Kiyosaki story of growing up with two dads. These dads shaped his thoughts about money and investing.

It’s one of the most fundamental books to understand investment. With its captivating and relatable storytelling author has bifurcated the investment, saving, and diversification of investment. It motivates you to start getting into that rich mode. It can be followed by some of us other books of the Rich Dad Poor Dad series but this is an all-time classic for personal financial management.

Namaz Kit for Workplace | نماز پاوچ

عالم اسلام میں جمعہ کو انتہائی مذہبی اہمیت حاصل ہے۔ اس میں سب سے خاص ہفتہ وار، دوپہرمیں ادا کی جانے والی نماز 'نماز جمعہ' ہے۔زمانہ قدیم سے ہی مسلمان اس نماز کو ادا کرنے کیلئے خاص اہتمام کرتے ہیں۔ بیشتر خلیجی ممالک میں اس روز ہفتہ وار تعطیل بھی ہوتی ہے۔ البتہ پاکستان میں اس روز دفاتر معمول کے مطابق کھلے ہوتے ہیں۔ لیکن اس کے باوجود بھی مسلمان نماز جمعہ کو احسن طریقے سے ادا کرنے کی کوشش کرتے ہیں ۔

لیکن کیا آپ کو پتہ ہے کہ اگر آپ اپنے ساتھ ایک نماز پاوچ رکھیں تو اس نماز کو مزید خشوع وخضوع کے ساتھ ادا کیا جا سکتا ہے۔

اس نماز پاوچ میں درج ذیل اشیاء شامل کی جا سکتی ہیں۔

عطر

نماز میں خوشبو/ عطر لگانا افضل ہے۔

یہ سماں باندھنے اور کیفیت طاری کرنے میں انتہائی معاون ثابت ہوتا ہے۔ حس شامہ کے ذریعے ہم اپنے ذہن کو پیغام دے سکتے ہیں کہ اب عبادت کا وقت ہوا چاہتا ہے۔

ذاتی طور پر مجھے گرمیوں میں 'روح خس' او سردیوں میں ' عطر شمامہ' پہنا پسند ہے۔ البتہ یہ دونوں بر صغیر کی خوشبوئیں ہیں۔ آپ چاہیں تو عربی خوشبو مثلا عود وغیرہ پہن سکتے ہیں۔ چاہے عطر کی خوشبو کے نوٹس عربی ہو یا ہندی یا فرنچ۔

میں اصرار کروں گا کہ آپ پڑوسی نمازی کو تحفتاً عطر لگانے کیلیے بھی دیا جا سکتا ہے۔

مسواک

مسواک نہ صرف زبانی حفظان صحت کیلئے انتہائی اہمیت کی حامل ہے۔ بلکہ نماز سےبہلے اس کا استعمال کرنا سنت بھی ہے۔ اگر آپ کو سگریٹ نوشی یا پان وغیرہ چبانے کی عادت ہے تو پھر وضو کرتے وقت آپ لازمی مسواک کا استعمال کیجئے تاکہ نہ صرف آپ خوشگوار محسوس کریں بلکہ منہ کی بدبو کے باعث ہونے والی شرمندگی سے بھی بچ سکیں۔

میرے نزدیک نیم اور زیتون کی شاخ سے بننے والی مسواک اس پاوچ میں رکھنا زیادہ بہتر ہے کیونکہ ان کے ریشے زیادہ نہیں پھیلتے اور لکڑی دیر تک گیلی نہیں رہتی۔۔ لہذا نماز پاوچ میں نمی یا سیلن کی مہک کے امکانات کم ہونگے۔

ٹوپی

سر ڈھانپ کر نماز کی ادائیگی خشوع اور خضوع میں اضافے کا باعث بنتی ہے۔

عام مشاہدہ ہے کہ لوگ مساجد میں دستاب ٹوپیاں پہن کر نماز ادا کرتے ہیں۔ اس میں ہر گز کوئی قباحت نہیں ہے۔ البتہ یہ حفظان صحت کے برخلاف ہے۔ اس سے بال اور جلد کے امراض پھیلنے کا خدشہ رہتا ہے۔ لہذا ڈھاکہ ٹوپے یا ململ یا سوتی کپڑے کی ٹوپی نماز پاوچ میں رکھی جائے تو ان موزی امراض سے بچا جا سکتا ہے۔ یہ عمومی طور پر مسلمانوں کی علامت بھی سمجھی جاتی ہے۔

تسبیح

یوں تو اسکا کام انگلیوں کے پور سے بھی لیا جا سکتا ہے، لیکن عبادت کے دوران تسبیح پھرانے کا الگ ہی لطف ہے۔ اس سے پڑھے جانے والے وظیفہ کی تعداد کا حساب رکھنے میں انتہائی مدد ملتی ہے۔ اسکے علادہ اس عمل کی وجہ سے دھیان مزید بہتر ہونے کے امکانات بڑھ جاتے ہیں۔

میری والدہ کے باس سلیمانی عقیق کی تسبیح اور وہ ان کی شخصیت کو چار چاند لگا دیتی ہے۔ آپ بھی کسی قیمتی پتھرمثلا عقیق، مرجان، نیلم، در نجف وغیرہ کی تسبیح کا استعمال کر سکتے ہیں۔ ازرائے تفنن یہ بھی کہتا چلوں کہ قیمتی ہونے کی وجہ سے آپ اس کا زیادہ خیال بھی رکھیں گے اور نماز پاوچ کے بجائے شاید اپنی کلائی میں باندھ رکھیں گے۔

مندرجہ بالا تمام اشیا کو ایک کپڑے یا چمڑے سے بنے ہوئے پاوچ میں سمیٹ کر دفتر کی دراز یا کار کے ڈیش بورڈ میں بھی

یعنی لازمی اشیاۃ ہیں۔ Must Haves رکھا جا سکتا ہے۔ اور میرے نزدیک یہ نماز پاوچ کی

اسکے علاوہ دو مزید چیزیں آپ اس نماز پاوچ میں رکھ سکتے ہیں۔

سرمہ

نو سے پانچ کمپیوٹر اسکرین کے سامنے، یا دھول مٹی میں کام کرنے سے آنکھوں میں جلن اور دیگر امراض چشم کا خدشہ بڑھ جاتا ہے۔ اس لیے ہفتہ میں کم از کم ایک بار تو سرمہ لازمی لگانا چاھئیے۔ اور اگر ممکن ہو تو جمعہ کی نمار میں لگا لیں۔

پاکستان میں بننے والے سرموں میں ہاشمی سرمہ، سرمہ جواہر آسانی سے دستیاب ہیں۔ البتہ دینی اعتبار سے سرمہ اثمد کو تمام سرموں پر فوقیت حاصل ہے۔ لہذا ایک سرمہ دانی بھی نماز پاوچ میں رکھی جا سکتی ہے۔

کنگھی

کنگھی حضرت انسان کے بناو سنگھار کا قدیم ترین آلہ ہے۔ وہ حضرات جو بازلف و با ریش ہیں، انھیں چاہئیے کے اپنے نماز پاوچ میں پاکٹ سائز کنگھی بھی رکھیں، تاکہ بود از وضو بال سنوارنے میں آسانی رہے۔

پاوچ

نماز پاوچ کو آپ اپنے آفس کے دراز میں رکھیے تاکہ بوقت ضرورت اس تک رسائی حاصل کرنا آسان ہو۔ اس نماز پاوچ میں آپ وہ اشیاء رکھ سکتے ہیں۔ جن کے استعمال سے نماز کی تیاری کے مستحب و مسنون حتی کہ سنت مراحل با آسانی طے کیے جا سکتے ہیں۔

جائے نماز

بیشتر دفتری اور صنعتی علاقوں میں جمعہ کی نماز میں لوگوں کی تعداد زیادہ ہونے کی وجہ سے مساجد میں گنجائش کم پڑ جاتی ہے۔ اور اکثر پر عارضی کنات و شامیانہ لگا کر چند اضافی صفیں بچھائی جاتی ہیں۔ اکثر اوقات وہ بھی کم پڑ جاتی ہیں۔ لہذا احتیاطً اپنے ساتھ مسلہ یا جائے نماز رکھ لینی چاہیے۔ تاکہ روڈ کے ناپاک ہونے کا شائبہ زائل ہو جائے۔ گرمیوں میں ایسے روڈ کی تپش ناقابل برداشت ہوتی ہے۔ لہذا جائے نماز ایسی صورت میں انتہائی کارآمد ہو سکتی ہے۔

نماز پاوچ کے علاوہ، میں تجویز کروں گا کہ ایک فلپ فلاپ چپل بھی آپ وضو وغیرہ کیلئے مخصوص کر دیں۔

چپل:

ملازمین آفس میں عموماً جوتے یا سینڈل وغیرہ پہن کر آتے ہیں۔ یہ جوتے چمڑے یا ٹیکسٹائل رے بنے ہوتے ہیں۔ اور وضو کے بعد گیلے پاؤں میں پہننے کی وجہ سے خراب بھی ہو سکتے ہیں۔ لہذا احتیاطً اپنے پاس ایک ربر کی بنی چپل رکھنی چاہیے جو اگر مسجد میں کھو بھی جائے تو زیادہ افسوس نہ ہو۔

تمام چیزیں بڑی آسانی سے بازار میں دستیاب ہیں اور بنا دفتری نظم وضبط توڑے آفس میں رکھی جا سکتی ہیں۔

Its Summer time, perfume is an essential EDC but don’t judge the book by its cover. You don’t wear the bottle of perfume or the fancy packaging. What you wear is, The Fragrance.

In a brief survey, I found that while buying fragrances most consumers’ decision is based on very crude/basic rationale e.g. long-lasting, discount, affiliation with loved-ones, religious beliefs, word of mouth, ads etc. They are almost unaware of sense the Notes and Ingredients that form a fragrance.

Michael Edwards, creator of The Fragrance Wheel, has made fragrance selection an exciting journey instead of difficult chore. It holds the key to your fragrance likes and dislikes. It have four clusters and every cluster has relationship between the 14 different families.

Floral Notes:

You smell like a bouquet of Rose, Jasmine and/or other flower/s you are wearing a scent from Floral Family.

Soft Floral Family’s fragrances contains nostalgic scents that are soft, powdery, sweet, and creamy.

Amber, Orange Blossom made smooth and sweet and subtly spicy falls under Floral Oriental category.

Oriental Notes:

Soft Oriental Family contains scents from smooth Carnation, incense and warm spices.

In Oriental Family the floral smell is now fully transited into dominant smells of Vanilla and musk, cinnamon and cardamom.

Woody Oriental Family smells a slight and sweet inclusion of Aromatic oil and fragranced woods e.g. Sandalwood.

Woody Notes:

You will love fragrances from the Wood Family if you like scents of Cedar wood, sandalwood and vetiver – raw and simple.

Mossy Woods Family mainly include ingredients that are sweet, smooth, sometimes earthy woody and mossy notes.

Dry Woods Family contains smokiness of blazing embers and the unambiguous leathery smell.

Fresh Notes:

Aromatic Family have clean, uncomplicated and universally accepted smell. I has the blend of lavender and other herbs such as rosemary or basil teamed with the warmth of wood.

ایڈونچر کی تیاری کے ۱۲ رہنما اصول

اگر آپ سیر و تفریح کی غرض سے دشت و بیاباں میں مہم جوئی یا ایڈونچر کرنے کی تیاری کر رہے ہیں تو یہ تحریر پڑھنا مددگار ثابت ہوسکتا ہے.

1930کی دہائی میں امریکی کوہ پیماؤں نے مہم جوئی کے لیے لازمی دس اشیاء کا ذکر کیا تھا. جسے Ten essentials of Hiking کہا جاتا ہے. اس ایڈونچر نمبر میں، میں نےTen essentials of Hiking اور مہم جوئی کے ذاتی تجربات کو مدِ نظر رکھتے ہوئے ۱۲ نظاموں کی فہرست تشکیل دی ہے. جن سے پاکستان کے کوہ و دمن میں مہم جوئی کرنے کی تیاری کے سلسلے میں رہنمائی حاصل کی جا سکتی ہے.

یہ نظام آگ، پانی، کھانے، پناه گاه، مرمت، موسمی لباس، روشنی، سورج کی شعاعوں سے حفاظت، سمت شناسی، ابتدائی طبی امداد، مواصلات، اور لین دین کی ضروریات کو پورا کرتے ہیں. آئیے ان نظاموں کا تفصیلی جائزہ لیتے ہیں۔

1. آگ جلانے کا نظام:

کسی بھی ایڈونچر پر جاتے وقت آگ جلانے کے آلات: لائٹر، ماچس یا میگنیزیم فائر سٹاٹرکٹ لازمی رکھنی چاہئیے۔ اس کے علاوہ ایک ڈبیا میں کچھ روئی جو پٹرولیم جیلی یا تیل میں ڈوبی ہو اپنے پاس رکھیں تاکہ آگ جلائی جا سکے.

2. نظام قیام/ پناه گاه:

اگر آپ ایک روزہ ہائیکنگ پر ہے تو ایک ایمرجنسی کمبل بھی کافی ہو سکتا ہے لیکن اگر آپ متعدد دنوں کی مہم جوئ پر ہیں تو خیمہ اور سلیپنگ بیگ یا اس کے علاوہ کوئی چیز جو آپ بطور پناهگاه استعمال کرسکتے ہیں،مثلاً ترپال، اپنے ساتھ رکھیں.

3. نظام طعام:

اپنی ضرورت سے تین گنا زیادہ کھانا اپنے ساتھ رکھیں.اگر آپ صرف ایک دن کی ہائیکنگ پر جا رہے ہیں تو دو وقت کے کھانے کے علاوہ چند انرجی بار یا کھجوریں بھی کافی ہوگی لیکن اگر آپ زیادہ دن کی ہائیکنگ کر رہے ہیں تو خشک راشن کے علاوہ میری رائے میں خشک میوہ جات اور انرجی بار بھی اپنے ساتھ ضرور رکھیں. نوڈلز ریڈی ٹو ایٹ میل، سوپ اور چائے وغیرہ بھی کارآمد ثابت ہوسکتی ہیں.

4. نظام آب

دوران سفر پانی کی کمی سے بچنےکے لئے ڈیڑھ لیٹر پانی فی فرد کے تناسب سے اپنے ساتھ رکھیں۔ اسکے علاوہ ایک اضافی پانی کی بوتل، اور پانی صاف کرنے کی گولیاں یا واٹر فلٹر ضرور ساتھ رکھیں تاکہ بہتے پانی سے استفادہ کیا جا سکے۔ اس بات کو یقینی بنائیں کہ آپ پانی مخصوص مقدار میں پیئں، یعنی کم از کم آدھا گلاس پانی اس وقت تک موجود ہو جب آپ منزل مقصود تک نہیں پہنچ جائیں۔

5. نظام مرمت

اگلا نظام نظام مرمت ہے۔ خنجر، کلہاڑی یا کسی بھی قسم کا ملٹی ٹول رکھیں تاکہ ایمرجنسی کی صورت میں چھوٹا موٹا مرمتی کیا جا سکے۔ میں اپنے ساتھ سوئ دھاگہ بھی رکھتا ہوں۔

6. نظام محدودیت /موسمی کپڑے

ٹھنڈے علاقوں میں جاتے ہوئے گرم ملبوسات اپنے ساتھ رکھیں۔ ایک موٹی جیکٹ پہننے کے بجائے Layered Clothing یعنی تہ در تہ کپڑے پہنیں، مثلاً: وارمر کے اوپر شرٹ، اس کے اوپر سوئیٹر، اس کے اوپر پف جیکٹ اور شدید سردی کی صورت میں اوور کوٹ یا شیل جیکٹ، اور اگر بارش ہو تو اس کے اوپر رین کوٹ پہنیں۔

موبائل میں موجود فلیش لائٹ پر ہر گز اکتفا نہ کریں۔ اچھی کوالٹی کی ٹارچ اور بیٹریز ساتھ لازمی رکھیں۔ یاد رہے Two is one,One is none. لہذا یقینی بنائیں کہ بیٹریز چارج ہیں ورنہ بیک اپ میں اضافی بیٹریز لازمی رکھیں۔

8. سورج سے حفاظت کا نظام

برفانی علاقے ٹھنڈے ضرور ہوتے ہیں لیکن یہاں کی سورج کی شعائیں امراضِ جلد اور امراضِ چشم کا باعث بنتی ہے۔ لہذا کیپ، چشمہ، اور سن بلاک کریم اپنے ساتھ لازمی لائیں۔ صحرائی علاقوں میں یہ احتیاط برتیں۔

9. نظام سمت شناسی

علاقہ کا ایک نقشہ اور قطب نما یعنی Compass اپنے ساتھ لازمی رکھیں۔ آپ، شہری دفاع یا اسکائوٹ ایسوسی ایشن سے ورکشاپ کے ذریعے بنیادی سمت شناسی کی تربیت بھی لے سکتے ہیں۔ ورنہ کم از کم علاقے کا نقشہ اپنے اسمارٹ فون میں آف لائن ڈائون لوڈ کر کے رکھیں۔

10. نظام ابتدائی طبی امداد

اپنے ساتھ فوری طبی امداد کا سامان لازمی رکھیں۔ اس بات کو یقینی بنائیں کہ آپ کو اس کا استعمال آتا ہو۔ آپ، شہری دفاع، اسکائوٹ ایسوسی ایشن یا کسی ہسپتال سے ورکشاپ کے ذریعے بنیادی ابتدائی طبی امداد کی تربیت بھی لے سکتے ہیں۔ احتیاطً، اپنے ساتھ فوری طبی امداد کا کتابچہ لازمی رکھیں۔

11. نظام لین دین

اپنے ساتھ کچھ اضافی نقد رقم رکھیں۔ میں اپنے ساتھ پاکستانی روپے کے علاوہ کچھ ڈالرز لازمی رکھتا ہوں۔ جو صرف آڑے وقتوں میں استعمال کیلئے ہی مختص ہیں۔

12. نظام مواصلات

کسی عزیز کو اپنے ایڈونچر پلان خصوصأ مقامات اور روٹ کی تفصیل لازمی بتائیں۔ ایک ایمرجنسی نمبر لازمی دے کر جائیں۔ اپنے پاس تمام ریسکیو سروسز کے نمبر لازمی محفوظ رکھیں۔

یہ تھے مہم جوئی کے لئے ۱۲ رہنما اصول، ان میں سے بیشتر اشیاء آپ کے پاس موجود ہوگیں اور ہو سکتا ہے آپ اپنے ساتھ لے کر بھی جاتے ہوں. ہوسکتا ہے کہ ان تمام اشیاء کی ضرورت آپ کو ہر ایڈونچر پر نہ پڑے لیکن یاد رکھیں کہ یہ وہ اشیاء ہیں جو اگر ضرورت کے وقت موجود نہ ہو تو مشکل درپیش ہو سکتی ہے . امید ہے اس تحریر کے ذریعے آپ کو مہم جوئی کی تیاری کے حوالے سے رہنمائی حاصل ہوگی.

From the vault: Wild Wanderers 2nd Meet-up (November 2020)

Adjacent to Makran Coastal Highway – Baluchistan, Hingol National Park is the wonderland of Pakistan.

It’s one of the most sacred place for Hindus pilgrims. According to Maharaja of the temple, the only Temple of Hanglaj Devi in the world is located in Hingol. This temple is locally known as (Nani Mata ka mandir). The scenery of oasis, natural fountains (Amrat ghara), hilltops, and caves around the temple adds beauty to its serenity.

Crater of Chandragup Mud Volcano

What is just a mud volcano to many people, in many volcanoes of Hingol, is a fundamental stopover in their pilgrimage (Yatra). Pilgrims pray and ask (mannat) at Chandragupta, make mud statues of their Lord Shiva from the volcanic mud. Inspired by their pottery, I also made few items from the volcanic mud for my collection.

Myself at Golden Beach

Few miles away is the refreshing beaches of Kund Malir and Golden Beach which sooths the sense of anyone, be it pilgrim or a wanderer like me. It offers, to watch the dusk and dawn, smell the aroma of sea breeze, touch the waves ending their nautical miles long tiring journey, hear the melodious sounds coming from the caves and crevasses crafted by wind over the period of millennia, and taste the delicious fauna and flora fetch by local fishermen in their wooden boats.

End your journey pilgrimage in the wonderland of Princess of Hope. Gaze anywhere, everywhere. You will be overwhelmed by the majestic city of mystery. Guarded by the Sphinx. Having her ruler's statue erected in the mid of it. Look at the beautiful chambers, they must be monasteries. These water stream they are the channels. What would have happened to them, their citizens and where are remains of their civilizations?

They are just wind sculpture, No… NO THEY CAN'T BE…

Yes… Yes they are JUST WIND SCULPTURES. There is no proof of any life here.

In Hingol, Every truth does not need a proof.

What I read in September and much more…

In September, I was on my annual vacations, spent a fortnight trekking in the jungles of Chakwal, and desserts of Cholistan.

Yes I took a book with me… so my travelling buddy was:

Sapiens - A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari: In September when my journey started and evolved as I went through the chapters of this book in train. It can be a tiring or difficult read, especially it contradicts and shatters many beliefs of this modern world. But, I suggest you to detach yourselves from emotions and biases, and read from logical and neutral perspective. It is a mind boggling roller coaster ride that passes through the stations of cognitive revolution and agricultural revolution and stops on the junction to unify humankind to take them on the journey of scientific revolution BUT will it take us to promised land where we can live happily ever after or are we heading towards an Armageddon? Read it to find out.

When I came back to my home, I read about the person who created my homeland:

Jinnah of Pakistan by Stanley Wolpert: '[Quaid-e-Azam] Muhammad Ali Jinnah was for Pakistan what Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru combined were for modern India – inspirational father and first head of state'. This sentence written on the back cover of the book was persuasive enough for me to buy and read it. Being a biography it is written from an interesting chronological perspective. It is a journey of how Mamad (Quaid's nickname in childhood) become Jinnah and died as Quaid-e-Azam. Caution, one (as a Pakistani) have to keep patriotic biasedness aside to understand the journey of this great individual.

TV Shows, Documentary and much more:

1. The Story of God with Moregan Freeman: A fantastic travel documentary series premiered on National Geographic, now available on Netflix, to learn about existence or potential existence of God or gods in various cultures and countries of the world. It revolves around the common factors or functions that made up the all or most of the religions the world. Common functions like Heaven and Hell, God and Satan, Virtue and Sin etc.

2. Jinnah The Movie: 11 September is the death anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam, so in order to commemorate this was a good watch.

3. Ertugrul Ghazi (Dirilis Ertugural): Yes it is a long TV series, and I am watching it at my own pace and leisure, so it will remain on my list for a couple of months.

I’m also often asked about what I am reading and watching by my friends and colleagues. So Here you go!

In August my subject based reading focus will be on Pakistan and its history…

1. Pakistan - A Personal History by Imran Khan: He is ruling my country, it’s his perspective of Pakistan, it’s written by himself. Need I say more??

2. An Era of Darkness - The British Empire in India by Shashi Tharoor: Wanted to explore the impact of British Empire from a non-Pakistani’s perspective in the region pre-Independence. Who better than those who shared the pain... So picked it.

3. Pakistan at the Crossroad - Domestic Dynamics and External Pressures: Trying to understand the 'Nazuk Moor' of this country. So, better read articles and essays from the top scholars of this country.

My leisure or bed side readings will be:

4. Sapiens – A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari: I read his other book Homo Deus earlier this year, and I am surprised by its relevance with this current pandemic. So I have decided to read his all books, and Sapiens is the first step to explore the history of humankind’s evolution.

5. The Architect’s Apprentice by Elif Shafak: Her ‘Forty Rules of Love’ is my all-time favourite fiction, and it defeated ‘The Alchemist’ in my list. This is a long over-due book, since last three year or so I have read Urdu literature, and deliberately ignored English. So, this month I am upgrading Urdu Literature to audio books.

Self-Help read will be:

6. Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki: I have just finished The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham. And it took me almost 06 months to read, re-read, understand and apply. Now I needed another book in the same genre so I pick out this book from my ‘to-read’ shelf.

TV shows, documentary and movies:

Pandemic - How to prevent an Outbreak: Although this Netflix Documentary is focused on Influenza not COVID19 but it will gives us sense to understand the work of Front-liners. (I have started it… I will finish in August)

2. The Big Bang Theory: Yes it’s my favourite English sit-com and sadly it has ended. So final Farwell, (I am on season 10 currently, 03 more seasons to go…)

3. Ertugrul Ghazi (Dirilis Ertugural): Yes it is on my list now… pro or anti... this is the drama that is now part of almost every discussion in my friend and family circle. So I am giving it a try. I am planning to see it in Turkish, I may get some grip on Turkish Vocab. Haha!

4. Projectified: A highly recommended podcast for management especially Project Management Professional. I listened it when I don’t have access to books or I am travelling.

5. Audiobook: Zaguzisht by Mushtaq Ahmed Yusufi. I have read him, now I am listening to all of his books.

I have 04 weekends, 03 Eid Holidays, 01 Independence Holiday, and smart lockdown to complete the challenge. Fingers Crossed.
