Droid G2x Issues - Turned itself off and vibrated

I just looked down and my phone was off, on my desk, and was no vibrating uncontrollably. Why? No idea why. Why does my phone turn itself off sometimes and why does it reboot itself sometimes? I have no clue it has a mind of its own. After it stopped vibrating for two minutes it stopped and then i couldnt get it to wake up. Sleepy Droid phone ! you bad phone.

HP EliteBook 6930p Issues - Sudden Power Loss on Battery and SSD - Part II

So, I switched out my spinning disk and my SSD and have determined that the sudden power loss issue seems to NOT be hard disk related, rather something going on with my notebook itseld. I am happy to report it is back under warranty and will be placing some calls shortly to see if this can be rooted out. I have used an original HP 6-cell battery, a 3rd party 6-cell battery and a 3rd party 9-cell battery and I experience the same issue (sudden power loss) when on battery power only. I have never experienced this issue while the system is plugged in.

I rented The Change-Up movie from Netflix recently and was really quite surprised with how the movie studi has limited the functionality of the DVD in several ways:

- can only view studio version, not un-rated version
- cannot view/listen in other langages
- cannot view the extra features such as outtakes, deleted scenes, etc.

For chrissakes are you kidding me? You think since I cant view these on "rental" only versions that movie studios distribute to Netflex, et al, that I am going to go out and buy the DVD since I totally have to have the un-rated version and see stupid flippin outtakes?

The movie studios deserve to go out of business and have a new industry born of real movie makers who are more in tune with their customers, embrace new technologies and move forward rather than ass backward jerkies like the recording industry and RIAA. peace.

HP EliteBook 6930p Issues - Sudden Power Loss on Battery and SSD

Big pain in the butt here on a couple things and I figure they must be related. Recently upgraded to a 128 GB SSD, Crucial CTFDDAC128MAG, that appears to have firware version 6 on it. Before I upgraded I noticed the original primary battery for the notebook was lasting less and less time (now 3+ years old so not surprising). But, I never experienced a sudden power down (actually sudden power loss). After moving everything over from the original spinning disk to the new SSD I started having other issues.

1) sudden power loss, even with new battery. I bought this Axiom 6-cell battery http://www.axiommemory.com/config/products/branded/482962-001-AX.aspx
2) after last sudden power loss my system wouldnt boot up - saying invalid system disk. i thought i had lost everything....i tried several more times and finally got the system to boot up. in process of running chkdsk and defrag to correct any issues here as well as did a full system backup.

Other interesting things to note...the performance of the drive doesnt seem to be that great with the AS SSD read/write benchmark tests. Here is a screen shot.

TD Bank ATM Fail Error Pocket-Sized Convenience My A**

So on October 9, 2011 at an undisclosed TD Bank ATM up pops this error message. Too bad the screen isnt a touch screen and I could've clicked OK to get through the error. Probably would blue screen after that.

iOS5 and iTunes Updates from hell

oh lordy iTunes would not update on my windows system and therefore would not allow me to get iOS5 and all of its goodness for my iPad 2. I thought it was because i cloned my HDD and moved to a SSD hard drive, but actually not i had the update error on both the SSD and spindle hard disk. ugh, so had to rebuild windows and reinsall everything to get the iOS5 goodness for chrissakes.

T-Mobile LG G2x updater tool - nice english translation people

I wonder if my phone was updated to V10F version over the air recently...come to think of it, it seems like my phone isnt auto rebooting as much or bricking, requiring me to pull the battery.

Anyway, I think i might bite the bullet (the cancellation fee) at T-Mobile once the Verizon iPhone 5 comes out and move over to Apple. Apple iOS doesnt have the glitches and bugs that Droid does.

Also, Verizon service in metro Boston is way better than T-Mobile.

Although...i love the 4G hotspot functionality on the G2x and T-Mobiles prices are way better than anyone else.

But, maybe get a Blackberry since the email, contacts and calendaring are 1 million times better than the Good for Enterprise app that my company forces me to use.

why does my LG G2x from T-Mobile reboot randomly? i just so happened to look down at my phone which was sitting very nicely on my desk, not plugged in to any power source, and noticed that the droid logo and LG logo just popped up. THe phone had just rebooted itself.

My new LG Google G2x phone is rebooting randomly about 1-2 times per day. It doesn't happen when I am using it but sometimes I will notice that the screen goes dark and the sound indicating it is turing on goes off, along with the droid green logo. Is there any way on the phone to determine when reboots, power on/off are initiated because of user intervention vs. something the phone did by itself?

I am finding more things about the Droid G2x phone and Good for Enterprise that are mind boggling, but still nothing that will make me return the phone, I cannot go back to my BlackBerry Bold phone...no way no how.

1) When I am on speaker phone...I can't dial numbers for conference bridge numbers or even my own voicemail password because audible tone sound that comes from the phone interferes with the function of the phone....it will send duplicate tones to the conference bridge...or I need to put the phone on mute so that the numbers dialed and the tone generated doesnt interefere with the operation of the phone...seriously?

2) Good for Enterprise...the automatic signature doesnt have a hard carriage return so when i reply or fw emails to people the signature comes across to them all in one line...

3) I get faxes from my RightFax server on my phone in TIF format and I cant view TIF on Droid...after I open them the Droid goes to the picture viewing operation and I get a blank screen. WTF

4) There is no spell check on Good for Enterprise or Droid that I can find. WTF again

I got a text from T-Mobile telling me about a mobile security offering that I get for having the monthly total equipment protection....the text said to go to this site:

Asurion is the underwriter/program adminsitrator for a ton of cell phone equipment protection offerings from cell phone companies.

So I go to the site and get this message:

Mobile Security enables you to locate your phone in the event it is misplaced or lost. From a computer, go to my.t-mobile.com/mobilesecurity to access the service.

SO i go to that site, login to my T-Mobile account and follow the steps to get the mobile security app. THe site sends me a link to download the app and it is the same link about that tells me to go back to the T-Mobile site.

Hello? anyone know how to download this app?

They should've just said go to the Market place / app store and search for Asurion Mobile and download the security app and save several steps.

Droid G2x from T-Mobile - revision re: Visual Voicemail

So I did some searches and T-Mobile definitely has a Verizon-esque Visual Voicemail...juts downloaded the app from Market and we're good to go.

Pros:

- you can edit your greetings directly from the app

Cons:

- you cant forward the actual voicemail files to your email or to someone else.

more feedback on the Droid G2x:

1) the keypad on Droid doesn't work 100% of the time when you need to dial a number after calling someone. for instance, dialing a conference bridge number or even your password after calling the voicemail number. for real. yeah

2) T-Mobile says they have visual voicemail, but its not really visual voicemail in the sense that Verizon has visual voicemail. Verizon's visual voicemail allows you to see in real time on your phone the messages in your voicemail box and play them without having to dial your voicemail. the app just plays it right there. on t-mobile you can see who left you a voicemail but you need to call voicemail service to listen to it. not a huge huge difference, but big enough, and one of the reasons why people get the service.

3) In the Good for Enterprise app...you can't select then copy text in an email you've received and you cant select then copy text from the reply part of a message...really? really? BlackBerry can do this...why are there some many simple little things that BlackBerry OS can do but not Good for Enterprise?

Droid Phone LG G2x - Google Accounts

So I get a Droid phone...the sweet LG G2x. Google is hooked into this phone all over the place, which is perfectly fine since I use gmail, latitude, Google maps and other services and they all work great.

I noticed a couple weird things though after setting up my phone...

1) I had gmail addresses in my phone that I hadnt used in years...I set them up about 4 years ago to use for other purposes and totally forgot about them. Somehow Google remembered them and brought them into my contact on my phone. Now they're deleted

2) The picture for Google talk that was being displayed was not me. This was so weird...I could not figure out where the picture was coming from.

So I did some digging and the picture is from another gmail account of someone with the same first and last name of mine. And his email address was in my contact in the Droid phone. Weird and weirder. I am very surprised that Google would bring in someone else's contact info into my contact on my phone and pull in his picture into my profile.

Also, when i went to this account page on Google's site it suggested I connect my twitter account to my google account. I dont have a twitter account...the twitter account they suggested was from a guy who has the same first and last name as me.

Also, what is up with the contact format on the droid phones? it is very hard to figure out which contact you're trying to edit/save/view. I am not very impressed with the layout of many of the Droid system screens, like moving emails, contact pages,etc.

"1080i fixed" Issue on TiVo Comcast Motorola box - DENON AVR-2809CI

from what I am reading it appears my receiver is the issue...DENON AVR-2809CI might be telling the cable box the wrong signal to set at and the TiVo is saying OK lets do it...and therefore changing from 1080i (that i manually set twice a day) back to 720p. Trying to figure out how to change this.

I have all HDMI going into my Denon receiver...PS3, Xbox 360 and Comcast Motorola TiVo enabled box, then one HDMI cable going to the table. The Denon switches HDMI and inputs based on what i tell it to do with my sweet Harmony remote.

If anyone reads this and has some feedback just let me know.

LG Google G2x phone with T-Mobile

One curious thing I am noticing about four days into my new life with G2x...sometimes the screen will turn off when I place phone calls and it will take 5-10 seconds to get it back on. The call continues but I cant get any screen control b/c it is off...and hitting volume and power/lock buttons do nothing...anyone else experiencing this?

Bloomberg BusinessWeek Change in Delivery Method

So I got a notice with my last BusinessWeek that they would be changing the delivery method of my beloved weekly magazine. Its the perfect length to read during a 1/2 hour on the StepMill. Anyway, the new delivery method is hand-delivered by a person I suppose. I requested that they continue to deliver my magazine via US Postal Service but it would take 1-2 weeks to take hold. I live in a high rise condo building and I dont believe the personal delivery will work for me.

I am not sure the reason for doing this...maybe because BusinessWeek thinks the Postal service will fail at some point and they need a new confirmed delivery method? Or USPS willcut Saturday delivery and they need a validated on time delivery? Or maybe they're saving money...i dont see how it can be cheaper than the Postal Service though...how is that possible?

New LG G2x phone from T-Mobile with Good for Enterprise continued

just a continuation of the last post, with some additional feedback.

1. there is no intelligence when filing our moving messages to other folders, where blackberry actually quickly allows you to type and select a folder to file.
2. The text in the menu popups in good is too big...apparently this is not a Good for Enterprise thing but an Android UI thing. Maybe there is a setting somewhere that I can change the size of the text and spacing within Android menu selection screens. there is just too much wasted space.
3. When composing or replying to emails the prices for looking up contacts in the local address book that is synced from exchange sucks, half the time gods doesn't find the right contact and they are not alphabetized and it tries to look up contacts too much in the exchange GAL...i don't get it. Again, BlackBerry is better than Good for Enterprise is this regard.
4. The battery seems good but it takes forever to recharge using a usb cable connected to a computer.

5. In Good for Enterprise, there is no way when you are in a calendar invite to click "message to all attendees" or reply to all like you can in Outlook and/or on a BlackBerry. I dont get why this functionality would be missing. If I am running late for a meeting that I am part of and need to email everyone, then on my BlackBerry I would've gone into the meeting request, menu click and click reply all. This was easy. It appears on Good for Enterprise that I need to remember the uses on invite, then compose a new message and type out each contact name....SILLY.

6. How do I sync the contacts from the Good for Enterprise contacts database to my native Android contacts? There is no option to do this, only to sync from gmail, yahoo, etc.

7. I need to check into this, but it doesnt seem like Good for Enterprise syncs all Outlook contact fields. I use fax, work phone, works phone 2, mobile, etc. and it appears that Good is only pulling fax, mobile and work phone 1. not work phone 2. this is silly. once again another feature that BlackBerry has that I would expect Good to have.

8. As far as I can tell, in Good for Enterprise, you cant call a contact from within an email, or email list. Again, functionality BlackBerry has. If I am in an email and highlighting a user i should be able to menu click, or something, and call that contact's phone number (with option to select which one) from within that email rather than having to exit the email, go to contacts, then look up the contact.

if anyone has feedback on these shortcomings or maybe i just havent used the phone long enough...

Facebook js IE 9 popup

I deleted my facebook account, yes i did OMG. I am happy I did as well. But now in IE 9 on my Win 7 Enterprise x64 system I get popups (or whatever the new messaging is called that appears at the bottom of IE 9 windows) that say

"do you want to open or savelogin_status.js from static.ak.facebook.com"

This message appears on many many sites and might be indicative of how much facebook is sending info to other sites? or simply just

so, anyone know how to get rid of this? i went into IE 9 settings and I cant seem to find this .js extension that gets loaded in IE 9.

So this phone is sweet since I had a blackberry bold before which is awful.

Using good for enterprise for my work email and not totally happy with the app.
