There is NO Duck Curry for 2009 in New York City! The organizers apologize for the late notice and promised Duck Curry 2010. Continue follow www.Hardowar.com for updates for Curry Duck/Duck Curry 2010. ------Updated September 19th.

A venue still not confirmed for this event. I also understand the date may change to September 27th. ------Updated September 4th.

Although September 20th is scheduled, I understand the venue is NOT CONFIRMED. I will post update when I get more information from the organizers.------ Updated August 15.

Sasha and Anand got married on May 22, 2009. These two have stories that can be traced back to the 90s when they were both attending John Adams High school.

The event was grand and everyone enjoyed every bit.

Phagwah 2009

on March 15th, 2009 in Queens, NY, was the celebration of Holi (Phagwah), also know as, celebration of color, or celebration of good over evil. This event brought out over 30,000 people. Mayor of NY, Michael Boomberg, who marched along with the parade said, "I applaud the community for coming out in large numbers to support this Pagwah parade."

The parade started out on Liberty Avenue and 132nd Street with over twenty floats from various temples, each had their Kirtan group performing live Phagwah songs. The parade proceed to Smokey Park. On the stage, there were live performances from various Hindu temples. There were classical dances; Pandit Chunilall performance, Rang Barse; and a surprise, The Del-E-Nadan band from Trinidad.

Started 20 years ago with Guyanese community leader Pandit Ramlall, the Phagwah parade is enjoyed by many. "This event remans one of the biggest event outside of Guyana" said Pandit Chunelall Narine. Originally, it was attended by people of the Caribbean, but today it is an inclusive affair with large number of Indians and Americans supporters.

Our Family Tree has gotten a make over. It has become much more social, private, and easy to use. You can call it the "Facebook" and "Myspace" of the family. It follows the same concepts, except it is for "Family" only. Every family member that logs in gets the opportunity to continue build the tree.

The New York Duck Curry (Guyanese), Curry Duck (Trinidadian) Competition held on August 31, 2008 is considered to be one of the world’s largest gatherings of Caribbean cooking experts. At this annual event, Guyanese and Trinidadians from across North America compete to see who can cook the best Duck Curry.
The excellent weather encouraged Guyanese and Trinidadians to attend this event held at Floyd Benet Field, Brooklyn. This event was a slam-bra-dam-bam—success.

Navita and I visited all the boots, took lots of photos, and sampled various foods. Although this event is the Duck Curry/Curry Duck Competition, we found lots of chicken, pork, and goat—in the big pots sitting at the back of every boot.

There were two things that bothered us: Why was Canadian the 1st place winner when the event was named New York Duck Curry Completion, and why weren’t there enough parking spaces? After we put some thought into these two questions, we figured that the event is a North American event. The parking we still can’t understand that Brooklyn wasn’t prepared to host this event.

July 4th is Roup and Ravi's birthday. There are also many other family members with birthday around the same time. This year, the birthday party was hosted at Ravi and Anjani's home in Schenectady.

The party was well coordinated, the food was excellent, the music was good--everyone had a great time. Oh and the kids had lots of fun at the pool.

This Telectroscope links Brooklyn and London through the Earth's "secret tunnel." People communicate by waving their hands and by writing on white boards.

The artist wants us to beleive his story: There is a secret tunnel. Actually, it is an optical device called a "telectroscope" located at Fulton Ferry Landing, Brooklyn and at Thames River, London that links both places using fiber cable connection.

There was a girl in Brooklyn on the cell phone talking with her brother in London--waving to each other.

what a crowd

New York Duck Curry Competition 2008 photos are on Flickr.

We have not seen such a big crowd of West Indian people before,other than the Labor Day parade. It is the largest crowd of Caribbean people ever seen competing to win the duck curry competition. The president of Guyana was also present. The cultural show was amazing and it brought back performers from the 70's and 80's. Old and young were out having a good time. Enjoy the pictures. If you missed this year, just remember next year is just around the corner.

Jeetu, Amisha, and Devi visisted us

Roup's cousin Jeetu and his daughter, Amisha, visited us while they were vacationing in New York. Roup's other niece, Devi, also visited us. Devi and Amisha met for the first time. We took the train to the museum and it was Amisha first time traveling on a train. At first she was very excited to go on the train then she got scared after we went down in the tunnel. Devi was brave as always. We had a wonderful time at the museum although it rained a lot. Hope Amisha visit us some time soon again. As for Devi we see her very often and Roup always smothers with kisses.

Although the rained did not spare Roup's birthday party we still had a wonderful time. Almost everyone that Roup invited came. It was to nice to nice have friends and families around to celebrate such special day with us. Roup's cousin, Shamo, did an excellent job with the barbecue chicken and thanks to Sabina, my cousin, for the beautiful birthday cake. Also thanks to all those who helped us prepared for the party.

Appalachian Trail Bear Mountain. The A.T. is a trial for every hiker and non-hikers. We spent 4 hrs hiking to vantage points that gives the best views of the hudson river.

Navita's Birthday. Roup took Navita for a helicopter ride over NYC. The tour was late evening, we started off heading south of the Hudson river to Statue of Liberty then back up north the George Washington bridge. We had a breath taking view of Manhattan in the night. After the adventurous ride, we had dinner.
