Royal Caballito’s new collection for the coming autumn and winter (A/W 2013-14) is called HIELO ("ice" in Spanish).

HIELO as metaphor for the cold months. HIELO as play. HIELO is not afraid of the cold. HIELO is a beam of light and color. HIELO is comfort taken to its maximum. HIELO is feeling pretty. HIELO is bold and relaxed. HIELO is a collection made in Spain.

With the new collection, I tried to imagine pieces which expressed my vision of this time of the year. My inspiration came from envisioning images of snow and days of faint light; images in which this girl would repeatedly always dressed with the HIELO pieces and feeling really happy in her skin - inside and outside-. On my part, I am very Mediterranean myself, and I get quite melancholic when days get shorter, temperatures drop and light almost disappears. My clothes become then a big incentive to boost my mood, start to play and get into the best of spirits! This is how HIELO was born…

La nueva colección de Royal Caballito para este otoño-invierno se llama HIELO.

HIELO como metáfora de los meses fríos. HIELO como juego. HIELO no tiene miedo al frío. HIELO es haz de luz y colorido. HIELO es comodidad al máximo. HIELO es sentirse guapa. HIELO es atrevida y desenfadada. HIELO es una colección hecha en España.

Con la nueva colección he intentado imaginar unas prendas que reflejasen mi visión de esta época del año. Mi inspiración fueron imágenes de nieve y días de luz fría, en las que repetidamente aparecía una chica vestida con las prendas de la colección y sintiéndose realmente alegre en su propia piel -dentro y fuera-. Por mi parte, soy muy mediterránea, y me entra mucha melancolía cuando los días se hacen más cortos, las temperaturas bajan y la luz casi desaparece. Mi vestuario se convierte entonces en un fuerte estímulo para transformar mi estado de ánimo, jugar y ponerme en el mejor de los ánimos. Así nació HIELO...

Hi all! I hope you're having a great end of July...

The other day I mentioned how the Spanish National Broadcast Television (TVE) payed a very nice visit to the studio to talk a little about Royal Caballito.

The featured was broadcasted yesterday on television in the program SOLO MODA and it's now online. If are curious to watch (beware, it's all in Spanish!), you can find the interview in the video above, from minute 5.43´ to 8.45´.

El otro día ya os comentaba por aquí la visita de SOLO MODA de TVE1 (el programa sobre moda y tendencias presentado por Nieves Álvarez) a nuestra casa-estudio.

We are already in the mist on July, it's really warm here in Madrid but, despite the high temperatures, the past days have been really good in terms of concentrating hard at work and continuing to develope the coming collection (and this is always HAPPY news!).

On this post, I wanted to show you our latest feature on the press, on the cover of VIEW ON FASHION Magazine:

On another sort of news, I'm now sporting a brand new haircut, really short and a bit pixie-like, really wonderful for the summer!! A few weeks ago, Blanca Lacasa from Vogue and photographer Juan Carlos Quindós, payed a visit to our studio together with a very special guest: Ana Naranjo, singer of Linda Mirada, who's been our muse since the early days!

We had such a great time!! Big thanks to Blanca and Juan Carlos.

You can see the results under the Vogue.es section In the studio of..., which they have dedicated to Royal Caballito, which features a really great interview (in Spanish), plus a full gallery of images from the visit and our studio, which you may find here.

Here Ana and I are wearing our Hanna Dress. I found it quite fun that we were wearing the same piece!! The rest of the photographs are worth seeing too.

Hoy tengo una noticia de esas que hace muy especial ilusión compartir, porque Royal Caballito está siendo portada de VOGUE.ES.

Hace unas semanas, Blanca Lacasa de Vogue, y el fotógrafo Juan Carlos Quindós, estuvieron de visita en el estudio junto a Ana Naranjo -cantante de Linda Mirada-, que como ya sabéis ha sido nuestra musa desde los primeros días. La verdad es que lo pasamos genial.

Sin embargo, nos acaba de llegar la noticia de que la revista dejará de publicar. Es una noticia realmente triste y desde aquí quiero brindar todo mi apoyo a la redacción... No sé si nos damos cuenta, pero cada vez que muere un medio resulta una pérdida gigantesca para la cultura de nuestro país (... y van...!) y salimos perdiendo todos.

Video Interview in "Shops and the City" / El Mundo newspaper

Last week Ana G. Rueda, from El Mundo -one of the main newspapers in Spain-, came by the studio to record a program dedicated to Royal Caballito for her well known fashion section "Shops and the City".

What I did not expect was for it to be featured on their web version's front page! It was quite fun to see us featured next to Dita Von Teese...

La semana pasada Ana G. Rueda, de El Mundo, vino a visitarnos al estudio para grabar un programa de su conocido Shops and the City dedicado a Royal Caballito.

Lo que no esperaba ver el lunes al despertarme era, a parte de no sé cuantos mensajes de amigos y familia, verlo en la primera pagina de elmundo.es, y encima al lado de Tamara y Dita Von Teese!!! La verdad es que fue bastante divertido.

SANDWICH MIXTO (or the story behind my first attempt at video)!

Hello there!

Today I have a little surprise which I'm really looking forward to sharing with you!

As you know, the past months I've been fully dedicated to the launching of my own clothing label, Royal Caballito. In the past days, however, I decided to set aside a bit of extra time to do something which I've felt drawn to for a long time now... the world of video!

The timing was particularly good because I'd just given myself the nicest present I could think of... the camera of my dreams in fact, which happened to have the potentiality to film great HD video. With this new equipment at hand, and when I saw that Skillshare was offering the course Muse: A Video Portrait Workshop, taught by the wonderful and charming Kat Tan-Conte, I knew it was just the moment I had been waiting for all along ;-)

The course was three weeks long. Three intense weeks in which, aside from my daily routine, I had to save time to learn the basics of video and manage to make my own project... and I was starting from scratch on everything, had no previous experience in filming, neither on editing programs, or else (which was a little scary at times, I must confess!). However, I think I did the right thing when I decided to take it all as it came, to enjoy the process as much as possible and accept the limitations in terms of time, technical skills and equipment! And that's where the true challenge laid, right?

All in all, it was a truly amazing experience and I'm quite happy and proud of the outcome.

Probably, if I started all over afresh -and with my new gained experienced-, I know I'd already be doing some things differently (like the quality of the audio - I was unable to get hold of a good micro for the recording!).

However (and this is something I'm really proud of), I think the video does manage to provide a general & optimum presentation of my "Muse", Virginia de Diego, and her very unique "store" Sandwich Mixto, a place which summons in one same space a design studio, a bar dedicated to homemade and local food, and a "fanzineria" bookstore for self-publishing editions and booklets...! To top it all, what's also unique about it is its location, as Sandwich Mixto is placed in a stall of one of Madrid's most antique, traditional and still active local markets.

Big thanks to Virginia, for all her patience, good humor and for being the greatest muse with her Sandwich Mixto. Her example is a great testimony that cool and unique projects should exist!!

Big thanks as well to Palo Alto, because I could not think of a better soundtrack to these images than their music.

And, finally, infinite thanks to Kat Conte of zerotheone.com, for her continuous support and for being such a marvelous inspiration!

Hola a todos!

Hoy tengo una pequeña sorpresa que me apetece mucho compartir con vosotros.

Como sabéis, los últimos meses he estado sumergida en el lanzamiento de mi propia marca de ropa, Royal Caballito.

En los últimos días, sin embargo, decidí tomarme un pequeño respiro y reservar un poco de mi escaso tiempo para hacer algo que me apetecía descubrir desde hace bastante... el mundo del video!

El momento era el apropiado porque acababa de hacerme a mí misma el mejor regalo posible... la cámara de mis sueños, que además tenía la capacidad de filmar muy buen Video HD. Con este nuevo material disponible, y cuando vi que Skillshare ofrecía el curso "Muse: A Video Portrait Workshop", enseñado por la increíble y mágica Kat Tan-Conte, comprendí que había llegado el momento adecuado para lanzarme a ello ;-)

El curso duró tres semanas. Tres intensas semanas en las cuales, aparte de mi rutina diaria, tuve que ingeniármelas para conseguir aprender las cosas básicas sobre video y sacar tiempo para hacer mi proyecto. Sobre todo porque empezaba de cero en todos los sentidos, jamás había rodado nada en video, ni tocado programas de edición de películas, etc (lo cual, debo confesar, a ratos me dio bastante vértigo!). Sin embargo, creo que hice bien al decidir tomarme las cosas como venían, disfrutando del proceso, y y decidiendo aceptar todos los límites que tenía en términos de tiempo, de equipo y de capacidad técnica! Y, en realidad, en eso consistió el verdadero reto, no?

En su conjunto, fue una experiencia increible y estoy bastante orgullosa y contenta con el resultado.

Si tuviese la posibilidad de comenzar de cero, pero contando con la experiencia acumulada, sé que habría algunas cosas que haría ya diferentes (hacerme por ejemplo con un micro adecuado!). Sin embargo y apesar de sus fallos, creo que el video consigue ofrecer un óptima representación de mi "Musa", Virginia de Diego, y de su personalísimo "espacio" Sandwich Mixto, un lugar que capaz de reunir bajo un mismo techo un estudio de diseño, un bar que ofrece comida local y muy rica, y una librería-fnzineria dedicada a publicaciones auto-editadas...! No sólo eso, sino que además se encuentra en un lugar de lo más especial, pues Sandwich Mixto está emplazado en uno de los puestos del Mercado de Antón Martín, uno de los mercados en activo más antiguos de Madrid.

Muchas gracias a Virginia, por toda su paciencia, buen humor y por ser la mejor musa posible junto a su Sandwich Mixto. Su ejemplo es un perfecto testimonio de que los proyectos chulos y únicos ¡merecen la pena!

Muchas gracias también a Palo Alto, porque no se me ocurre pensar en mejor banda sonora para acompañar estas imágenes.

Y, finalmente, infinitas gracias a Kat Conte de zerotheone.com, por su continuo apoyo y por haber sido una fuente tan grande de inspiración!

We're continuing to update the shop and are really happy to announce that our new series of Royal Caballito Notebooks are finally available over there!

The notebooks are handmade and have been printed with some of our signature pattern designs. They're a perfect match for those of us who love illustrations and always have a notebook on the side to take notes, make lists, write or make sketches!

Pine Trees Jumper in Navy Blue - new in the shop

We're just starting to recover from the illness that affected our home during the whole of last week (yes, 7 entire days!) ... at one point I really thought they would decide to stay live with us...!

Given the circumstances, I only managed to dedicate a few hours to work last week, but I did find a little spot of time to do some mini photo-shooting, as the new colors of the knitwear have finally arrived xxx

Here's the Pine Trees Jumper with it's NEW navy blue & orange combination. What do you think? I'm kind of pretty happy with the results. You may find it already available in our shop.

One of them has rapidly flown to it's new home in Lisbon, Portugal, to the company of my very much admired Ana Ventura.

Comenzamos por fin a recuperarnos de los virus que asolaron mi casa durante el conjunto de la semana pasada (sí, 7 días enteros!). Llegué a pensar que se querían quedar a vivir con nosotros...!

Aunque la semana pasada pude dedicar muy pocas horas al trabajo, conseguí sacar unos pocos ratos para hacer una mini sesión de fotos, ya que... los nuevos colores de las prendas de punto ya están aquí xxx

Y aquí arriba está nuestro jersey Pine Trees en sus nuevas tonalidades azul marino y naranja. ¿Os gusta? Yo estoy muy contenta con el resultado. ¡Ya podéis encontrarlo en la tienda!

Uno de ellos ha volado veloz a su nueva casa en Lisboa, a la compañía de mi muy admirada Ana Ventura.

This week saw the feature of Royal Caballito on one of my most beloved blogs, Elisabeth Dunker's Fine Little Day, who dedicated a post to our new collection; and that was such a treat!

En esta semana vio la luz un post dedicado a Royal Caballito en uno de mis blogs favoritos, Fine Little Day de Elisabeth Dunker; y que puedo decir... ¡estoy muy feliz!

The pasts days were pretty busy around here too, but at least I had the chance to spend time on one of the things I most enjoy about designing... palettes!! A few of our jumpers and cardigans were sold out and I've been working hard on choosing new colors to bring back these items to the shop. I'm hoping that this new versions will be be arriving very soon.

Llevo una semana alocada, entre otras cosas, eligiendo nuevos colores (prometo que serán muy chulos!) para algunos de nuestros cárdigans y jerseys que han volado de la tienda. Espero que muy pronto pueda enseñároslos.

New Knitwear line - We love wool!

I'm so very excited that today I can officially present you with our new knitwear line. It is now up on the shop. I'm particularly proud because this is our first real incursion into the world of wool and tricot, and something which I've wanted to make since more than I can remember. For someone like myself, whom during the cold months sometimes can get to feel like an actual layered onion (no joke here), being able to create warm, comfortable and beautiful -the 3 adjectives together- clothes, it's kind of like the closest to a dream come true.

So yes, we've created some really cool jumpers and cardigans!! They're all made in Spain and done with all the care and love that goes into our garment production. We have used a really soft and warm mix of cashmere and merino wool, and they seem perfectly adapted to the coldest months of Winter which are finally here. And, it couldn't be any other way, all of them carry our designed-by-us patterns, but this time transformed into tricot!

I swear I can't not stop wearing them.

Por fin puedo presentaros oficialmente las nuevas prendas en punto de Royal Caballito. Podéis encontrarlos en la tienda online desde YA.

El punto era algo que había deseado hacer desde hace más de lo que puedo recordar, y ahora, ¡¡tenemos cárdigans y jerseys preciosos y calentitos!! Los hemos realizado en España poniendo muchísimo mimo en la producción, con una mezcla muy gustosa de merino y cashmere, así que perfectos para la parte más dura del invierno. Y todos llevan nuestros propios estampados, of course ;-)

¡La verdad es que no puedo dejar de ponérmelos!
