The other week, I posted a picture of one the female coyotes that will be around the house in the morning. A few people thought that she was a fox. Since she was around this morning, and posed for me, I thought I would put an extra picture of her up.

She is from last year's litter, and she has a very unusual coloring that is basically all buff.

Here she is from that cold morning in April.

I have been my kids' teacher since 1987. Most of my kids have never seen the inside of a classroom until they reached college. I taught all six of my children since before they started kindergarten. Since then, two have graduated with honors in chemistry and applied physics. Only the youngest one is still taking his lessons from me while the others are still in college. Even though it has been a while since I taught young children, I was asked to review ABC Mouse.

Let me just say one word to start out about ABCmouse.com - GREAT! I wish I had this way back in the 80s. It is a fully functional learning site that really teaches preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten so very well. Children can start anywhere in the curriculum, and move through it at their own pace. There are lessons for math, science, social studies, art, music, and learing letters, phonics, and reading.

I was always big on my kids reading well. My approach was to learn to read phonectically and having a good base of sight words. ABC Mouse has this approach to teach kids to read. Learning the alphabet is fun at ABC Mouse, too. They have such a great collection of Letter Song Animated Videos. These 26 A-Z Music Videos, with sing-a-long lyrics and superb animation, are entertaining and educational. My college kids even having fun watching all the videos with me.

All subjects, reading, math, the world around us, music, art and colors, are well covered and integrated well into all of the lessons. There are six levels of learning: preschool for ages 2+, pre-k, and kindergarten. Books are read to children, there are exercises in coloring, puzzles, and games. There is even an option that the parent can record the books for their children.

There are three ways your child can learn: 1) The Step-by-Step Learning Path which is the easiest way with the lessons all ready to go for your child; 2) Independent Learning or Free Play in which your child can do any activity that he or she wants to do; or 3) Guided Learning which puts you, the parent, in control over what you want your child to learn by building the lessons yourself.

Serene Sunday - Home - The Piano Guys - May 19, 2013

The Piano Guys came out with another new song this past week, "Home."

"Home" was filmed outside town of Springdale, Utah bordering Zion National Park while the Piano Guys are taking a break from their tour. They had some fun with the cattle during the filming of this video as the cattle did not like the sound of the piano, but did like the "mooing" of the cello. The Piano Guys will have a cello cow call video coming soon. Sounds like great fun!

"Home" is a bit of a take off of the Largo theme from Antonín Dvořák's "New World Symphony" and "Going Home."

Time for some general silliness!

A few words about our oceans from our younger population:

Sharks are ugly and mean, and have big teeth, just like Emily Richardson.

When ships had sails, they used to use the trade winds to cross the ocean.
Sometimes when the wind didn’t blow the sailors would whistle to make the
wind come. My brother said they would have been better off eating beans.

Some fish are dangerous. Jellyfish can sting. Electric eels can give you a
shock.. They have to live in caves under the sea where I think they have
to plug themselves in to chargers. (Christopher, age 7)

The ocean is made up of water and fish. Why the fish don’t drown I don’t
know. (Bobby, age 6)

My dad was a sailor on the ocean He knows all about the ocean. What he
doesn’t know is why he quit being a sailor and married my mom.
(James, age 7)

Bank robber

A hooded robber burst into a Minnesota bank and forced the tellers to load a sack full of cash.

On his way out the door, a brave Minnesota customer grabbed the hood and pulled it off, revealing the robbers face. The robber shot the customer without a moments hesitation.

He then looked around the bank and noticed one of the tellers looking straight at him. The robber instantly shot him also.

Everyone in the bank, by now very scared, looked intently down at the floor in silence.

The robber yelled, “Well, did anyone else see my face?”

There are a few moments of utter silence in which everyone was plainly to afraid to speak.

Then, one old Norwegian named Ole tentatively raised his hand without looking up said,

“My wife got a pretty good look at ya.”

Walt and Ted Magic

Ted and Walt entered a chocolate store. As they were looking at the candy, Walt stole 3 chocolate bars. When they left the store Walt said to Ted, “I’m the best thief, I stole 3 chocolate bars and no one saw me put them in my pocket. You can’t beat that."

Ted replied: “You want to see something better? Let’s go back to the shop and I’ll show you real stealing. I’ll steal while the shopkeeper is watching me and he won’t even know.”

So they went to the counter and Ted said to the shopkeeper: “Do you want to see a great magic trick?” The shopkeeper replied: “Yes”

Ted said: “Give me three chocolate bars.”

The shopkeeper gave him three chocolate bars and Ted ate all three. The shopkeeper asked: “But where’s the magic?”

Ted replied: “Look in Walt’s pocket.”

Be Good to Your Wood and Treat it With Scott's Liquid Gold

I love antique furniture. When my brother-in-law presented me with this gorgeous antique grand upright piano, I was in seventh heaven. The tiger maple is such a treat to the eyes. I have had it for several years now, and try to give the wood the best of care. I have always used the same brand that my mother and her mother have always used to clean and condition wood. It has always worked fine, but I was never too happy with the results. I always thought that it should give more pizzazz to my wood, especially my piano.

When I found out that I could review Scott's Liquid Gold Wood Cleaner & Preservative, I jumped at the chance. I wanted to see for myself what results this wood cleaner would have on my 1800s piano's tiger maple.

This desert that I live in is one of the driest and dustiest places to live. At least once every two months, I need to oil my wood furniture to keep it in the best of condition. It doesn't help with all the dust. I have to dust almost everyday or else I end up with what is pictured above. (Don't you love the pattern from the scarf I have over the top of my piano.) I let the dust build up for a few days to illustrate what I go through here. All I did was spray it on and wipe it off. Check out the results:

It's beautiful! It cleaned the wood up and left such a lovely sheen! I didn't realize how much residue from other cleaners had built up on my piano especially the key cover. It brought out the shine and left the wood looking glorious. As you can see, there are some intricate details on the piano. These were always so blasted tough to get the dust out of all of those little crevices. I just sprayed on Scott's, and all the dust came right out. I was amazed.

Scott's LIquid Gold also restored more of the darker coloring that the piano originally had. When I lift the lid to look at the keys, you can can see the original dark color. After so many years the color had faded. This wood cleaner restored quite a bit of the old coloring.

The other day, we had some almost stormy weather. In some areas, there was a little rain. Not too much. Just enough to make the car dirty. Stainless Steel Ice Cube Tray from NoPlastic.ca - Review and Giveaway - 6/3 US and CAN

I received an ice cube tray from NoPlastic.ca to facilitate with this review.

A few months ago, I got sick and tired of our old plastic ice cube trays. No only did they keep breaking apart every time that we tried to get the ice out of them, but we have always found that these trays would leave a funny flavor to our ice. I have been hearing so much bad things about plastic recently, and started to wonder if these harmful chemicals were leaching into the ice that I have been serving to my family?

Do any of you remember the metal ice cube trays that came with refrigerators? I do. I have been searching for them for years. With the advent of having to get new ice cube trays, my mind turned once again to find one of these good old fashioned ones. My online search led me to NoPlastic.ca.

At No Plastic, I found an array of all sorts of different items made from stainless steel, wood, bamboo, and ceramic. When I clicked on the link to go to their kitchen items, there is was, a stainless steel ice cube tray, just I as remember how they were when I was so very young. I truly was in awe over it. I really believed that I would never find one because all I ever saw were plastic. What a happy joy it was for me when No Plastic agreed to let me review one for you.

Now that I have been using it for a few weeks, I am completely a fan of this Stainless Steel Ice Cube Tray! This stainless steel ice cube tray comes in two parts - just like the ones from yesterdays - complete with the lever to loosen the ice. Don't let that frazzle you, because they are so very easy to use. Just keep the lever down, fill the tray about 3/4 with water.

Because it is made of stainless steel, the metal freezes the ice so quickly. Here is the ice cube tray all frosty with ice completely frozen ready to be taken out of the freezer.

Since this is a bit different from those plastic trays, you cannot twist it to get the ice out. Take the tray over to the sink, turn it upside down a bit, and give it a splash of warm water from the tap. This will loosen the ice from the bottom tray.

Now just pull up on the handle to release the ice from the separator. As when I was young, I like to be sure to pop out all of the ice into the tray before I place the ice in a bowl.

The ice are all loosened and ready to be stored in my BPA free bowl back in the freezer.

The ice from this stainless steel tray has absolutely no funny flavors at all! I know that these ice cubes are just as pure as the pure water from their source - our deep 600 ft. well!

I received samples of the following Infusium products for this review.

I remember going to the beauty parlor with my mother and grandmother in Pasadena, California, to get my hair trimmed and permed. Norman, the owner, always stocked his parlor with the latest beauty supplies. I remember one year, seeing Infusium23 on his shelves in the front windows. I didn't know it then, but Infusium 23 would become one of the biggest names in hair care.

I was recently sent two different collections of Infusium23 to review: the Moisture Replenisher Collection and the Frizz Controller Collection. Both were perfect for me since living in a dry desert, my hair can get dry and brittle all year round. The hair around my face is so curly, that it gets frizzy with all the dry air. For a few weeks now, the family and I have been using both of the collections.

I have been using the Infusium23 Moisture Replenisher Collection since the day that I have gotten it. The Moisture Replenisher is supposed to leave hair soft, silky, and deeply replenished. I can testify to the fact, that it really does just that! My hair used to so dry, especially at the ends. It just felt terrible. My hair feels and looks rich once more. There is a soft shine when I look at it in the mirror. Makes me feel so much more prettier.

The shampoo really cleans my hair so well. It is formulated to cleanse hair and remove residue and build-up. It will nourish hair from the roots to the tips. I am amazed at how little I need to use even on my long hair that goes halfway down my back.

The conditioner has made my hair silky soft. The Infusium23 Moisture Replenisher Conditioner is formulated to give your hair softness, manageability, and shine. It will replenish the moisture to your dry parched hair. I leave it on for a full two minutes before I rinse it off. I feel like I am getting a deep conditioning treatment each time I use it. I really see and feel a difference to the old conditioner that I was using.

The leave-in treatment is a dream for me. This leave-in treatment will go right into the cuticle of your hair to help restore moisture that your hair has lost and will protect hair against more dryness. I have never gotten a leave-in conditioner before. I can really feel the difference using it. Before using, combing my hair after a shower and in the morning was a time consuming chore. Now it's easy to do and the comb goes through my hair so easily. It has lead to less breakage as I see less hair in the comb when I am through. The fly-away hair that would always bug me by getting into my eyes has considerably diminished since I started using this.

I asked my daughter, Kiara, and my husband to use the Infusium 23 Frizz Controller Collection exclusively to see how it works with their hair. They both have a very thick strands of hair that come from my husband's Greek heritage, and it tends to get frizzy. This collection is supposed to help tame and smooth frizz-prone, distressed hair.

They both liked how the shampoo really left their hair feeling deep down clean. My husband liked the rich thick creaminess of the shampoo. As with the Moisture Replenisher Shampoo, this Frizz Controller Shampoo, will strip hair of all the icky residues and build-ups that really leaves hair just looking dull. It is designed to nourish your hair from the roots to the tips while helping to tame that frizz.

I told my daughter to leave the Frizz Controller Conditioner on her hair for the two minutes as recommended to deeply condition her hair and lock out that frizz that bothers her so much. I can see the difference in my daughter's hair, and I love feeling the difference in my hubby's hair. It's nice seeing their hair looking much smoother that what it has been looking.

Now, Kiara really likes having the leave-in treatment for her hair. Her hair is even longer than mine. She usually piles it into a braided bun everyday because of the frizziness of it. With the Infusium23 Leave-In Treatment, she feels more confident to go out with her hair just down. This leave-in treatment also makes her hair much more easier to brush out. It is so much more silkier than it ever has been before.

I received the following samples of Sure Antiperspirant and Deodorant for this review.

Since my oldest daughter started her martial arts, aikido, she has been buying the antiperspirant and deodorant for us girls of the house. There has been one brand that she loves, and she has always made sure that there was an ample supply of it. I was never too happy with this name brand that she bought for it never kept me dry all day.

Now that she has vacated the premises to live in greener pastures, it's now up to me to buy the supplies for the family. I was just going to keep buying what we always have, until I was contacted to review the New Sure Antiperspirant and Deodorant Conditioning Solids. Now I have changed my mind about what brand I will be buying in the future!

Sure has come out with a new line that is designed to go on smoothly and condition underarm skin. It still has the same base formula to help you keep dry and odor free, but with a new cool look and some with special added ingredients. I was sent two of the new types of Sure to try: Pure Essence and Vitamin Infusion.

The Sure Pure Essence is formulated with Aloe Extracts. Aloe is a great skin conditioner. This has a nice light fragrance that smells so nice. It really keeps me and my hubby dry during the day--and I mean all day! My husband has really taken a liking to this one.

The Sure Vitamin Infusion Conditioning Solid is formulated with vitamin A and E. These two vitamins are great for keeping skin conditioned and soft. This one has a very light fragrance which I really do appreciate on days when I have sinus problems. It keeps both me and the hubby dry all day long, too! I really love this one best out of the two since the light fragrance is perfect for me right now.

I was so pleasantly surprised that Sure was so much better than that other antiperspirant that my daughter would always buy. I love how we stay dry all day. It really makes me much more confident to wear sleeveless tops now that it has gotten warm.
