If you’re looking to get better roleplaying skills as a player, one way in D&D is to create a better D&D character background. Building a better D&D background allows your Dungeon Master more material to work with in creating the story. It also will give the player and other players more character hooks and opportunities to grab on to. We’re going to list five tips on how to create a better D&D character background to improve your roleplaying experience. These tips will provide quick and easy to use plot hooks and personality traits.

Decide on one thing that your character would lay down his life for. It may be something noble, or it may be more self-serving. But pick something that your character would, under any circumstances, fight to the death over. It could be that anytime someone steals something from him, he will go to the ends of the earth to track them down and make them pay at any cost. Or, it could be that whenever his homeland is disrespected in conversation, he just cannot let it go. Whatever it is, choose this one carefully as it will turn out to be an extremely important part of your character.

Pick three things that your character will always fight for. These three things are things that will instantly cause the character to go into fight mode. He may not fight to the death over these, but he will always address them appropriately. Perhaps the player just can’t stand it when people insult him about his short stature. Or maybe he hates it when people make fun of any one of his adventuring comrades.

Decide on one thing that your character fears the most. Perhaps your character has an intense fear of flying and resists any flight or levitation spells that are cast on him. Your character may have an intense fear of snakes, no matter how big or small. Or maybe your character has an intense fear of a specific creature, like werewolves, vampires, liches, or ghosts.

Choose one characteristic that defines your character to other people. Perhaps the primary characteristic you choose is benevolent. This character gives money to the poor when he can. He also lets defeated enemies leave the battlefield without dying if they fought honorably. A character with a vengeful characteristic would be more inclined to remember those that have defeated him and plot their demise for a later date. A vengeful character rarely ever lets acts of transgression towards him pass.

Create one additional character that is important and somehow related to your character. This could be a meddling uncle that always seems to show up in your business at inconvenient times. Or, it could be a childhood enemy that has followed you much of your life. He’s often poked fun at you when you’re down, but has also shown an act of heroism on random occasions which leads you to wonder if he’s really good, or really bad.

These seven characteristics don’t take too long to figure out when you’re creating a character. Decide on one thing you would die over, three things that you would fight for, one thing that your character is intensely scared of, one personality characteristic and one supplementary character that is somehow connected to yours. By answering each of these questions listed above, you can easily develop a more fleshed out character. This gives you more roleplaying opportunities and hooks for roleplaying due to the fact that you’ve developed a better D&D character background.

If you are a roleplayer that plays a game like Spycraft, d20 Modern, Shadowrun, or any other modern setting roleplaying game, you’re going to need modern miniatures for your miniature combat. I’m going to list a few places that are good for finding modern miniatures. However, most of these sites carry a variety of miniatures that you will be able to find there.

Dixon Miniatures – This company is one of the premiere miniatures companies in not only the European market, but all over the world. They are based out of the United Kingdom. They have many different types of modern miniatures, but recently released a line of Yakuza-based miniatures with two-dozen different figure types.

Old Glory Miniatures – Old Glory Miniatures has a huge line of miniatures, including historical, civil war, modern, fantasy, and much, much more. One of their featured customer service programs is the Old Glory Army program. Customers in this program can earn up to 40% off their miniatures if they participate in this program. It is very worth-while if you purchase a lot of miniatures each year.

RAFM Miniatures & Games – The best modern line from RAFM Miniatures & Games is the USX miniatures. They are sold under the USX brand and have a full set of rules that go with the modern miniatures called “USX Modern Day Heroes”. Even without the rule set, you can use these miniatures for many other modern-themed roleplaying games.

Pulp Figures – This company is kind of the odd-ball of those that have been listed so far. When you think of the product they have, think Indiana Jones, Sky Captain of Tomorrow, and Call of Cthulhu. Many Call of Cthulhu players find the miniatures they offer to be very useful for their games.

Reaper Miniatures – This company is one of the largest miniature companies in the world. They are a full-service miniatures website and company. You can purchase traditional non-painted miniatures from them, or you can purchase pre-painted miniatures through their other company, Asylum Miniatures. One of the forums they market their products in is ReaperCon, a miniature-based convention they hold each year.

These aren’t the only companies that you can purchase quality modern miniatures from. All About Miniatures, Stan Johansen Miniatures, Amazon Miniatures, Ground Zero Games, Denizen Miniatures, and Iron Wind Metals are some other great companies. Just do a search on Google for ‘Modern Miniatures’ and you should be able to find some quality miniatures for your modern campaign. However, you can save your time in searching for modern miniatures by going to one of the great companies listed above.

This is a list of ten pen and paper RPGs that are good, but probably aren’t on most people’s top ten list. As we’ve stated, the games are good, maybe even great, but not great enough to be at the elite Top Ten level.

1. Vampire – This game, as well as other World of Darkness games, should probably be ranked higher on the overall list, but never had a ton of experience with these games. It still is the number one LARP’ing game in the world though, since there are people out they LARP’ing the game that don’t even know it (Goths, or Vampire LARP’ers? You decide).

2. Mage – One of the follow-up games to Vampire. It also lives in the World of Darkness setting. The game introduced a free flow set of magic that allowed players to do virtually anything they could think of.

3. Werewolf – This game was fun, especially coupled with Vampire. I loved taking my Werewolf against Vampires in 1st edition and destroying them, mostly because the systems weren’t balanced to go together. I also give the game props for having that 1st edition hard cover with the claw marks in it, great advertising.

4. Paranoia – One of the only games I can remember that you automatically get extra lives for when you die. Consequently, expect to die fairly often. This game is also one of the few games where the printed modules were often better than player generated ones.

5. Spycraft – Version 2.0 of the game was a major improvement over the previous edition. It became one of the best modern roleplaying games of all time in the pen and paper genre. It is also one of the best skill-based RPGs that you can find out there.

6. Gamma World – This game reminds you how fun random character generation can truly be. Set in a post-apocalyptic setting, it pretty much allows you to run a Mad Max, anything goes type of setting for your characters. The game has been around forever and has like six or seven different editions of the game.

7. Cyberpunk 2020 – True cyberpunk setting in every sense of the word. This game can be absolutely lethal as well. And who could forget the most infamous cybernetic item of all time, the Mr. Stud implant. Basically a requirement for all bad-asses in the game.

8. Warhammer FRPG – Warhammer is more known for their miniatures and wargaming. Even lately they’ve become known for their Warhammer MMORPG. But their roleplaying game is pretty darn fun too, and has a very unique character class system.

9. Earthdawn – According to FASA, it was supposed to be Shadowrun but in a fantasy setting. The game had a pretty unique system and setting, but for some reason it always felt kind of bland when you played (sometimes like 4th edition D&D). The game did pretty well, however, and still has a small following.

10. Hackmaster – Best critical hit tables ever. I remember running this for our gaming group and just hoping that every time someone made an attack roll, it was a critical hit. You never knew what part of your body was getting mauled or completely chopped off.

This is a list of the ten pen and paper roleplaying games. They are widely considered the best RPG games ever. As you can see, the list is a little bit skewed towards older games. But all of these games have huge fan bases and have been time-tested. Without further ado, here is the ten best pen and paper RPG games ever.

10 – Gamma World – A science fantasy roleplaying game that was first published by TSR in 1978. This game was the first roleplaying game to be created in the post-apocalyptic genre. So far, it has seen publication in six different editions over more than thirty years of gaming.

9 – Vampire the Masquerade – This was the flagship product of White Wolf’s World of Darkness setting. Since its inception, the game has spawned numerous other similar games, such as Werewolf, Mage, Changeling, and many others.

8 – RuneQuest – This game was considered as one of the ‘Big Three’ at some point. The big three being D&D, Traveller, and RuneQuest. It provided a different setting and system than other fantasy roleplaying games at the time.

7 – Champions – This was the original comic book / super hero roleplaying game. Many others have followed, like Marvel Super Heroes, Mutant’s and Masterminds, Heroes Unlimited, and more. But Champions was the first game to break the mold and put the player in control of a comic book super hero.

6 – Tunnels & Trolls – This game was created in 1975 making it older than the author of this article, as well as older that all other roleplaying games (except for one!). Also known by its shortened name of T&T, this game has long played second fiddle to the original fantasy roleplaying game.

5 – GURPs – The Generic Universal RolePlaying System is able to adapt itself to any game environment. Any setting you can think of has been created for the system. Its creator, Steve Jackson, is one of the most well-known game designers in the industry because of this game.

4 – Star Wars – Based on the movies carrying the same name, the Star Wars Roleplaying Game was first created by West End Games using the d6 system. Eventually it moved on to other companies and saw some play time under the d20 system, and then finally the Saga Edition. It is the premiere sci-fi, or space opera, themed roleplaying game due to George Lucas dominating the minds of nerds all over the world.

3 – Traveller – It was the original space opera roleplaying game, but it definitely isn’t necessarily the most well known. That distinction belongs to a product George Lucas created. Despite this, Traveller was one created in 1977 making it one of the first roleplaying games ever made.

2 – Call of Cthulhu – The only horror-based roleplaying game on the list. The campaign setting comes from the terrifying work of author H.P. Lovecraft. The roleplaying version has seen many different companies build the game under different systems. But they all share the one same element, horror.

1 – Dungeons & Dragons – This game is bar far, the number one pen and paper roleplaying game in the world. It first claimed dominance in the roleplaying niche by being the first game in the niche, before it was a niche! Got it?! Since that beginning, the game hasn’t lost any stride and continues to be the number one best-selling roleplaying game of all time.

This list tends to be a little bit more biased towards older games. If you split up the different editions and counted each edition, for each game, as a separate game, this list would look very different. Overall, it gives you a good idea of the general popularity of specific pen and paper roleplaying games since the creation of pen and paper roleplaying games many years ago.

Social Networks are now allowing people to communicate in new and exciting ways which weren’t even dreamed of in previous generations. Aside from just randomly chatting, they are also allowing people to tell stories, and to create works of fiction, which are emerging to recreate the nature of storytelling.

Roleplay is an act of imagination, where you gather a group of people together, and each one assumes the role of a character. Then they act as that character, in order to further the story. Everyone adds their own perspective to the piece, and the resulting story is made up of the whole.

Social networks such as facebook were created to allow people to tell stories. You are supposed to use them to tell the story of you real life, through the use of pictures, videos, and written submissions in a variety of forms.

This ability to tell stories can, with a little tweaking, be used to tell fictional stories. You don;t necessarily have to talk about yourself on these networks, you could sign up as just about anyone or anything you can imagine.

The story can then be told and expanded on through a series of interactions with others on the site. These can be other fictional characters, or they can be real people. The addition of extra people to the story breathes new life and energy into the tale, invigorating it.

Facebook and most of the other social networks are not intended to be used for fiction. In fact their terms of service will often include injunctions requiring anyone who creates an account to do so under their own name and connected with their real identity. While these rules are not usually stringently enforced, they still make it difficult to engage in creative endeavors on these sites.

There are however a few alternative, most notably http://www.RolePages.com was created precisely to fill this void left by the other social networks. RolePages is a website set up similar to facebook, however the creators of the site invite you to create a character that is not you. In fact they encourage you to create the strangest, and most creative character that you possibly can. Then you can take that character and use it to create stories by interacting across the site with other character members.

Trine is a fantasy side scrolling RPG adventure game with a load of interesting aspects. The Trine is an ancient artifact that, when our three hero’s touch it, binds them together allowing the player to switch between the three characters during game play. The three characters are the Rouge, The Wizard and The Knight. Each has their own unque abilities.

The Rouge with her Bow and Grapling Hook will make light work of most enemies at a fair range.

The Wizard can create and levitate boxes to allow access to areas normally unreachable.

The Knight is the close combat tank with his sword and shield he can take on anything.

As with all great games Trine has items of power that can increase damage dealt and improve stats. It also has a great leveling system. Levels come at 50 experience each. You gain experience by collecting green potions scattered about the level and by killing enemies. When you gain a level all three characters gain 1 skill point, which can be spent on skills that increase the effectiveness of the character.

When you begin you only have one skill and thats the basic one however as you go along you can find more hidden in chests around the level.

If you are not familiar with the whole concept of a virtual currency, then it might seem completely alien to you. However, a virtual currency is quite a simple concept really, and it works very similar to any real world currency.

It is something which is traded within a game or something very similar. Certain virtual reality simulations could be classified as games as well and also include virtual currency is an virtual and complex in game economies. There are many different examples of this.

Some virtual economies operating completely different ways to others. For example, you have typical and very popular games such as World of Warcraft which has an extremely useful and essential component to it, that being gold, also a virtual currency.

Currency earned within the game is used to buy items within the game. The currency can be earned in the game through a number of methods depending on the game. For example, in World of Warcraft, there are dozens of different ways of getting gold, the in game currency.

Games which are more focused on economics and things such as that like Second Life, actually have an official exchange rate with the United States dollar. Their currency is actually worth something on the stock market’s and what is even more amazing, big business is actually invest in it.

Because of this, many people buy gold for real life currency. Because of this, it is become a lucrative opportunity and the gold business for World of Warcraft another games like it is now quite a major business all over the Internet. Although it does break the terms and conditions of the game, almost nobody gets caught and it is an extremely popular way and alternative of getting Virtual Currency without having to renders the grind it in repetitive steps.

Whether you’re an “old school” gamer or just thinking about checking out Dungeons and Dragons for the first time, it’s good to know what you’re in for. DnD is a great way to take a trip to exotic places without ever leaving your living room (or parent’s basement). So, Oh Prince, grab your Mt. Dew and favourite crispy treat and let us return to the days of yore- or the next paragraph.

Dungeons and Dragons was first on the scene nearly 36 years ago as a game. Invented in 1974, it saw several rules changes and some refinement of the last three and half decades, though it say it’s hay day in the mid-80s when everyone short of your Grandmother tried the game at one point or the other.

DnD could best be described as a board game. It has a board, or map, and game pieces that players must move. It has a final objective (usually involving killing something and taking something else) and like most other board games, it has a set of dice. There is where the similarity ends though; at the dice.

Dungeons and Dragons requires a 6, 8, 10, 12 and 20 sided die to place. As crazy as it sounds, they are an important part of the game. They are not used for movement, that is predetermined by the game it’s self, but instead as a “luck and skill” factor for the character’s individual talents. If the character shoots something, battles something or a number of other actions, they will have to roll the dice to see what the result is. Understanding the notation of the dice is important as well. A 1d12 roll is “1 die 12 sided” to be rolled while a 2d6 would be “2 dice 6 sided” and so on. Not knowing your die notation will get you laughed at.

Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Half-Elves and Halflings are all races that can be played through 99.9% of the mods; they are the base classes. Each of these races has areas of strength and weakness. Which one is chosen as the character to be played will help in determining the class of the character.

Class isn’t about money in the Dungeons and Dragons world. Class is about what the character does for the “party”, or group of players. Warriors are the strength and backbone of the group, they provide the party with a fighter’s tenacity and hardiness. Wizards are the magic users, though not as strong and tough as the warrior, they are powerful in their spells. Priests are the healers and moral compass of the party, they provide healing and at higher level, resurrection service to the group to keep them healthy and well rounded. Thieves are the final basic component. They can detect traps and open locks, and they add an element of stealth as well. There are those who would argue that there are more classes available for play, but these are generally considered the basic character classes.

The level and alignment of the character is usually the next things DnD players will ask about. Everything that happens in Dungeons and Dragons in the way of combat and “questing” has the potential to award the player’s character experience points of “XP”. These points will accumulate until they reach a certain total, at which time the character “levels”. Leveling means the character will gain additional skills and is another important element. Alignments in their basic form are Good, Evil and Neutral. This is the character’s disposition. Good and Evil characters can go on a quest together since players, in theory, work together against a common foe. The main advantage of the character’s alignment are more for the sake of playing a role than the sake of game play, since typically all level Xs of a class are on par with each other.

Dungeons and Dragons is still played around the world and has evolved over time to suit its supporters. To get further information, check out the web, your local hobby shop or comic book store. They will have more information on where to find gaming groups in your area. They still exist.

It is an age and a way of life that was created by Robert E Howard.
One thing that you don’t need to worry about is having too much gold, and should you want to return it to your normal currency you can do this as people are just as eager to buy the Conan gold as they are to sell it. This means that if you have lots of gold in the age of Conan you can also transform it if need be.

The difference between the other kinds of gold and Conan Gold is that you are able to use it on a European server which means that you do not have to worry about converting it, although if you have gold in another currency this can be traded in and exchanged for gold that will be of more use to you.

Even though people can get the gold and earn it throughout the game they find it easier to buy it, you cannot get to the top unless you have enough gold to buy the weapons you need to compete with among other things. You do not have to even leave the house to buy this virtual gold as you can do so online and your purchase of gold will be with you within 10 minutes, even less with some transactions.
Modern Warfare 2 represents one of the latest versions of the already popular game Call of Duty. Scheduled for appearance at the end of the year, this first-person shooter has already gathered numerous enthusiasts. Gamers are eagerly waiting to play Modern Warfare 2, which actually represents the sequel of Call of Duty 4 or Modern Warfare. Not only is the storyline of the game continued but it seems that many surprises are in store for those playing the game. We are talking about new modes, amazing missions and stories to discover.

The Internet is an amazing source for those who want to find out details about Modern Warfare 2 game. Among the novelties promised for this version of the game you will find the following: Special Forces mode, campaign stories and isolated missions. By selecting the Special Forces mode, two players can enter the game and play without any problems. Youre probably wondering about the plot of Modern Warfare 2 as well. Well, you should know that the game brings the same characters into the center of attention, with minor modifications. There are new characters as well, guaranteed to make trouble. The diversity of the missions is quite impressive, with locations such as Russia, Afghanistan or Brazil at the top of the list.

Definitely one of the most desired games of the year, Modern Warfare 2 is already promising to break any selling records where first-person action games are concerned. The trailer of the game has been viewed by millions of people from all over the world, all of them interested in playing the latest version of Call of Duty. The previous version of the game has sold millions of copies in different parts of the globe, so the specialists who have created Modern Warfare 2 believe that this new version is going to be even more successful. They are putting together finishing details, wanting to make this version the best.

Modern Warfare 2 brings novelty and variety into the world of gaming, satisfying the thirst for adventure and adrenaline of all players out there. Characters will gain new abilities, such as climbing mountains and riding snowmobiles. As for attack opportunities, these will be more and better, allowing one to benefit from the complete playing experience. The Special Forces mode is one of the most attractive features of the game, and the isolated missions are not related to the actual storyline.

To summarize, Modern Warfare 2 entices with its Special Forces mode (where you can play with another player in a cooperative way), the fights with Russian terrorists and the new missions, which promise to be the best of all Call of Duty versions. If you are prepared for everything this game entails, for leading your commando unit into the battle and discovering new enemies, then you should stand in line and wait for Modern Warfare 2 to be released in November. There are very few criticisms of this game and they are not even worth mentioning, given the numerous positive features presented!
