Good News & Bad News

You probably all saw this coming, but after months of no updates, I must finally announce that RPG Lamer is no more...Sorry about all the promises of a return and not delivering, but I just haven't been into RPGs as much as I used to be. This is partly due to the lack of RPGs of interest to me, and partly not having enough time to devote to such a genre. Back when I started RPG Lamer there was lots of exciting RPG news, and I was readying to be the first Podcast to cover the subject, then RPG Cast came along and overshadowed this... Now there are several RPG-based podcasts and of course there are other sites to go to for the news.

So that's the bad news... RPG Lamer is gone... It was fun while it lasted, and I wanna thank all the podcasters (Kent) who stilled played my promo and asked for more podcasts from me. I really appreciated that and I wish I could have done more with the Podcast, but again the drive just isn't in me anymore...

So what's the good news you might ask? Well, I was hired on as webmaster at Lusipurr.com a while back, and have since been making regular appearances on their podcast "Megaphones Ahoy!", so if you're dying to hear my voice, or want to promote something that I'm a part of, then please check out Lusipurr.com and listen to the podcast. Lastly, I do have some other plans in the works but I'm not yet ready to announce anything just yet, but when I'm ready to spill the beans I'll make sure to let you all know either on here, or on the twitterz!

Anyways, thanks again for your support, and I hope you'll stick with me over at Lusipurr.com and in my future ventures!

RPG Lamer The Podcast, Not dead... yet!

Hey folks, it's been awhile, eh? This is just a heads up, as I know a lot of you probably don't follow my every move on the internet(twitter, up a paddle comments, etc), that RPG Lamer The Podcast will be making a return! I've got everything planned, and if all goes according to that plan, new episodes should start appearing in your RSS reader/iTunes in late April or May-ish.

It was crazy of me to think I could beat an RPG, write a review, record the review, and then edit together a podcast every week, and it's even crazier that; for awhile, I was doing just that.

RPGs take a hell of a lot of time, and so does editing together a podcast. So things are going to change, and that's mostly why it's going to take me about a month to get the ball rolling again...

For you see, I've decided to start banking reviews. I've already banked 2, and I plan to bank at least 2 more before May. What that means is; that I'll hopefully be able to get new RPG Lamer the Podcast episodes out to you a whole lot quicker, and on a more regular basis, so this change is for the good.

This plan will also make it a hell of a lot easier on me, as I'll already have the hard part done. I'll basically just have to record the release dates, a bit of news, and then edit in a banked review. So it's a win win for everyone. You(Kent) get more episodes sooner, and I don't have to be some sort of RP Gamer god, pumping out a new review every week or so.

So Yes, that's the announcement for ya. Look forward to the come back folks!

Ar Tonelico 3 Battle System Info

In keeping with the Ar Tonelico Tradition, Ar Tonelico 3 will feature yet another new battle system!

Those of you who have played Ar Tonelico 1 & 2 might remember the change in gameplay between the two games, mainly the battle system(and the lack of a jump button). In the first game the battle system used was very much your traditional turn based fair.

The Second game in the series while still turn based switched went a little further from traditional, using more of a Valkyria Profile type attack system, with a really neat timing based guard system for protecting your Reyvateils.

Well now in Ar Tonelico 3 they've gone even further, past traditional turn based battles, and more into the action realm, featuring a battle system more closely related to a Tales of game. In the clip below you can see what I mean by this:

Well I'm a little sad to see the battle system from Ar Tonelico 2 won't be making a come back, it's refreshing to see an RPG Series that keeps changing up it's battle system with every new release...Though it makes me wonder what's next? Ar Tonelico 4 with Tactical RPG battles!?

All joking aside the change to a more Tales of battle system seems like a good one to me! The Reyvateil's skill targeting system looks pretty awesome as well.

Apart from the change from Turn Based to Action battles, Ar Tonelico 3 will feature dynamic music changing during battle, and what I can only describe as a "strip feature", where the Reyvateil will lose more clothing, as they use powerful attacks. Or as Producer Kawachi Atsunori so beautifully put it "By showing more skin, they are able to absorb more of the planet’s energy", thus “The world can only be saved because the heroines took off their clothes!"(Did I mention Ar Tonelico is famous for it's sexual innuendos?)

Of course all the other staples of Ar Tonelico are there, like the Dive system, and there's a few other little bits of info out there but it's a little vague(stuff about Reyvateils having multiple personalizes or some such thing like that.), so I'll forgo writing about them for now.

The game is said to be about 80% complete, and is on track to be released on the 28th of January 2010 in Japan.

Really looking forward to this one! I loved the first two games, and the switch to 3D graphics doesn't look half bad... Much better than what I expected.

The game is coming out exclusively on the PS3, January 28th 2010 in Japan, no North American release has been announced, but unlike Tales of Vesperia, I can say for sure we in North America will eventually see this game released here.

And a quick update about the podcast: Sorry I didn't get it out when I had promised, but as soon as I can round up the shownotes, I'll be sure to record a new episode for you all.

As if there were any doubts, Sega has confirmed that Vakyria Chronicles 2, will arrive in North America AND Europe, Summer 2010. But if you're itching to get your hands on the game sooner, you could always import the Japanese version, which is set to come out at the end of this year... That is; if you know Japanese... *goes back to studying Japanese*

Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope is indeed comin' to the PS3

If you listened to episode 6 of the RPG Lamer Podcast, you'll know that I talked about, the then "rumor" of, Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope coming to the PS3, and how I said that this rumor was more then likely correct and that square was just covering up the leak... Well, turns out I was right!

SquareEnix announced Star Ocean: The Last Hope International this week for the PS3. The game will feature, English, Japanese, French, German, Italian, or Spanish subtitles, and the option to choose between Japanese or English Voice acting. Sadly the game won't be using the anime art work in game like in the Japanese 360 release of the game, but the battle system will be tweaked for the better, adding an auto targeting system.

The game is set for release in Japan on the 4th of February, 2010, and a few days later in North America on the 9th. No European release date has been set, but seeing as PS3 games are reigion free, and all those languages are on the Japanese/North American disc there's no reason not to import.

Now Namco just needs to announce Tales of Vesperia for North America(with a Japanese voice option damnit!), and all will be good in the RPGaming world!

3D Dot Game Heroes Trailer

I'm officially excited! This game looks like an awesome Zelda clone for the PS3. And here I was worried this was going to be a dragon quest clone...

The 3D pixel graphics didn't look so good in the screen shots, but when you see them in motion I think it looks great! One of the exciting features of the game, for me at least, is that you can create your main character out of these 3D pixels, not much details on how creative you can get with this, but I'm hoping it'll be something like making normal pixel art.

Sadly this game has not been announced for North America, but you can expect to see videos of this game, featuring walking penises, when the game is released early November in Japan.

New Tales of Vesperia Scan and a bit of Demo Info

The scan comes from hacker-alias Koori from the Namco Tales of forum.

In case you didn't already know; The PS3 demo for Tales of Vesperia, was released this week on the Japanese PSN store, if you have a Japanese account, you can hop on your PS3 and download it yourself, I did! and I must say; it's pretty good stuff! And it's different than the one 360 owners got.

No secret english reveal through the actual demo it's self, but Koori(the same mentioned above) did do some hacking, and found some data that had already been translated into English, leading many(my self included) to believe this game just might be released outside of Japan...
So folks, don't be so quick to import this one just yet.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 Announced for PSP?!

That's right folks! One of the greatest games ever made is getting a sequel! Sadly, it's not going to coming out for the PS3 though... Never the less! The game looks promising!

"Valkyria Chronicles 2: The Royal Military Academy of Gallia", takes place 2 years after the original game, and will feature an all new cast of characters. As one might have guessed, from the title, the game will have some what of a school setting... I guess Sega's thinking being "Persona 3/4 were good games! and they had school elements!", not sure how this setting will effect gameplay, that is, if at all.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 is set for a Winter release, this year, in Japan.

FUCK YES! And no, this isn't an April fools joke, as the news comes from the Japanese Magazine Shonen Jump. Folks might remember back in I believe it was June last year ToV for the PS3 was hinted/slipped in some html code/PDF file of up coming Namco Bandai games. Many folks(myself included) took this hint as truth, and thankfully for us we were right!

The port much like Trusty Bell(Eternal Sonata) the PS3 verison of Tales Of Vesperia will feature new content, which includes a new playable character. ToV for PS3 will be released later this year in Japan. No North American release has been announced yet, but here's hoping with the added space of blu-ray that when/if the game is released in North America they'll give us the option for Japanese voice overs, they did it with Trusty Bell... But of course, this is Tales Of we're talking about, and Namco just hates to give the fans what they want with that series.

Also announced was the hinted "Tales of Vs." "Super Smash Bros-like" fighting game for PSP, which features a bunch of characters from the Tales of series. Here's hoping there's some ad-hoc multiplayer, and here's hoping we'll beable to use ad-hoc party to play online. "Tales of Vs." is comin' out in Japan this Fall, again no North American talk yet but the title was hinted in a US Namco Bandai trademark leak, so there's hope yet.

And Finally the boring news! Tales Of Graces for wii, which is basically just that "mothership" tales of game that was announced and trailer was shown awhile back...

Also, Up A Paddle released a new episode recently, and I hope to follow in the tradition of the RPG Lamer Podcast's last episode...Which is to release an episode after Kent has released an episode...

So uh... Kent, if you put more episodes out, you'd basically be forcing me to put more out as well! I think it's a fair trade... an eye for an eye, as they say!
