WOW. Last night I skipped Cinq a Sept to check out “The Art of Being” a Yoga workshop put on by KW|AG and Queen St. Yoga.

I was pretty stressed walking up Queen Street to the gallery – things are a little nutters in my life right now (in a good way) – there’s a ton happening at work, and a HUGE RQ event in the works. Details on Monday i hope! Anyways, the to-do list is out of control and so the idea of trying to chill and meditate seemed like a bit of quality time i may not have had to work with.

I WAS WRONG.

This 2 hour session was unreal!

Meaghan from Queen St. Yoga is awesome, just as a starting point, and you combine that with Kirstie from KW|AG and how can you go wrong??? The first hour was a lot of relaxation and muscle meditation and traditional yoga stretches. All good times, and much needed.

The second part was more mind/body spiritual and tied in really amazingly to the third part – a silent, self guided viewing of both current exhibits inside the gallery. SO AWESOME. You HAVE NO IDEA what you are missing when you view art in a crowded and noisy space! You miss EVERYTHING! Not to get all righteous on you or anything, but honestly – this was a massively enlightening experience for me. hahaha.

(As an aside, you only have 2 more weeks or so to see the Kissick, Mary Catherine Newcomb & Grand River Installations… i highly suggest you get over there ASAP)

So yes, The Art of Being was awesome, you should look for the next one, or email the gallery and tell them that you’re so sorry you missed the first one and will they please do another one asap because you need a 2 hour reality check that involves amazing art and wicked people and some weird squash fetuses.

Look at how lovely we are!

Thank you so much Meaghan :)

H.

PS. I heard Cinq a Sept was pretty boss too ;)

Here’s the details people, it’s a 2-parter!

First, for those who are inclined and able to secure a spot (see below), there is the “From Farmhouse to Table” cooking glass at the Kitchener Market. Once the class is over, we will make our way to Kitchener City Hall to check out the sites, sounds and vibes of KW Urban Culture 2010.

Cooking Class
The class runs from 10:30 – 11:15 at the Kitchener Market. It is free, but you must register to secure a spot. There are only 40 spots (for everyone, not just n.b.), so pop here to go through the registration hoops.

KW Urban Culture 2010
Once the fun and games of the cooking class are done, we will be (likely by 11:45ish) at the KW Urban Culture event/fest, taking place at Kitchener City Hall. Here are the event’s details as taken from its facebook page:

I haven’t been a fan of it in the past, but in my wise old age, I’m coming around to it.

Which is why, I was happy to read this news last night:

The City of Waterloo will be providing a one-time grant to the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery following the organization’s release of its new sustainability plan.

“The Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery is a cultural cornerstone in our community. Investing in the gallery is an investment in arts and culture in Waterloo,” said David Smith, the city’s general manager of Community, Culture and Recreation Services.

“Not only does this national gallery attract visitors to the uptown, but it’s also increasingly becoming a destination that’s frequented by residents. With its new sustainability plan in hand, the gallery is positioned to continue to provide this service to our community.”

… The gallery had requested $70,000 in funding, but the city opted to provide a one-time grant of $51,150. City staff will continue to work with the gallery to ensure this funding is used to further its new sustainability plan. This plan includes reworking its board structure and governance model, demonstrating financial accountability and improving accessibility for the community.

This is your chance CCGG – You can do great things. You have amazing people on your side wanting to make you a popular, accessible and cool spot. Seize it.
