BERRY RACING PREP FOR RISLONE URC SPRINT SERIES OPENER SATURDAY, APRIL 28

Ned & Mary Jean Berry have announced that JR Berry will be their driver for the Rislone URC sprint series of 2012.

JR Berry will drive the car as Tim Higgins takes a break after his heart attack that took place at the Delaware International Speedway last season. Hopefully, Tim will be well enough to get back in the car in the year 2013. JR started his racing career at the Linda's Speedway running 4 cylinders in 1993 where he claimed 18 Feature Wins. Then with the help of his father, he purchased his first sprint car and with a motor sponsored by Duval & Sherry Dressler, he began his sprint car racing career in the year 2000. This is the year where he claimed the Rising Star Award, finished in the top ten in points, and earned respect from his fellow competitors.

Since 2004, JR has been running his 410 when possible and always makes the full USAC Swing. He will continue to run his own car on the off weeks that the Rislone URC Sprint Series is not running and take part in some double duty nights along the season. JR Berry will be at the Rislone Sprint Series opener on Saturday night, April 28.

Ned and Mary Jean are hoping to have a successful season with JR planning to run the entire Rislone URC Sprint Series. The last time JR and his dad had teamed up, was the 2001 and 2002 season with the KARS Sprint Series and they greatly enjoyed their success.

The Berry Team will be starting the season out with the car they put together from the last show of 2011. Berry Racing also have another complete car as backup with an extra chassis. Currently, Ricki Kehl of Kehl's Auto Service is freshening the motor with machine work being done by Squeak Automotive Machine. Also returning to Berry Racing will be Shompers Super Lube out of Williamstown, PA., Higgins Automotive out of Reading, PA., Fleetwood Auto Parts out of Fleetwood, PA., Fleetwood Beverage out of Fleetwood, PA., and Paint by Cody and Angel Kerschner and family.

JR has five crew members to help out this year. The team includes Clyde Myers, Jason Dierolf, Gene DeLancei, Brian (Duce) Powelson, Tom Gray, and the Berry Team greatly appreciates their commitment for 2012.

The Berry's are busy planning their 2nd Annual Racing Fundraiser Party to take place on Saturday, February 11 at 6 PM. The location will be the Oley Fairgrounds Center, Oley, PA. LARRY WIGHT’S INDOOR DEBUT HIGHLY ANTICIPATED; WILL RUN DARREN FORBES’ 600 MICRO SPRINT AT A.C. INDOOR RACES

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ January 30, 2012 . . . When the phrase “brightest and best” is applied to upstate New York dirt track racing circles, Phoenix, N.Y.
teenager Larry Wight’s name is at the top of the list.
Wight, 19, is the latest of more than 200 drivers to enter Atlantic
City’s Boardwalk Hall Indoor Races. Nearly thirty 600cc Micro Sprint
teams have committed to participate in the race.
The 10th edition of the event under the direction of Len Sammons and
staff is planned for Friday and Saturday nights Feb. 3-4, 2012.
College student Wight will be making his first start indoors aboard a
600cc Micro Sprint owned by Darren Forbes of Baldwinsville, N.Y.
The Micro Sprints are one of four classes of car in competition. The
lightning-fast TQ (three quarter) Midgets, the aggressively-driven
Slingshots and the missile-like Champ Karts are the others.
“The car is an older chassis but we have raced it only once,” said
owner Forbes. “It’s a good car and I am sure Larry will do well
with it,” Forbes concluded.
Wight, a winner of 88 outdoor races in his driving career, is part of
the highly regarded Baldwinsille, N.Y. based Gypsum Racing Team,
that fields or backs half a dozen upstate New York big-block and
small-block Modified teams.
The biggest day so far in Wight’s racing career came on September 5,
2010, when he outran Alan Johnson, the winningest driver of all time
in big-block DIRTCar history.
The combined driver rosters among the four competition classes is
approaching 210, having eclipsed 200 late last week.
Wight and Forbes will have two chances to win in Boardwalk Hall; the
600cc Micro Sprints are the only division that will have feature races
on both Friday and Saturday nights.
Vintage TQ midgets have been added to the weekend of events. Cars will
be displayed on Friday, Feb. 3 throughout Boardwalk’s Hall spectator
concourse.
A warm-up session is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, Feb. 4. Cars
will then be displayed and drivers will be available for autographs
and photos during the interactive evening Fanfest session prior to the
beginning of racing program. Drivers will hand out full-size souvenir
pennants to the first five hundred youngsters during Fanfest as well.

Much like a whirling dervish, the growing interest for the upcoming 2012 edition of the NAPA Auto Parts fifth annual Dirt Track Heroes Car Show continues to generate a full head of steam as the energetic management staff continues to put the many pieces in place for what is expected to be another highly successful gathering of the past, present and future of auto racing coming together under one roof in Phillipsburg, New Jersey.

With the recent announcement of the NAPA Auto Parts of the Delaware Valley making the transition into the major show sponsor for this year's edition of the tremendously successful show, the remaining pieces are coming together one step at a time with each passing day. The IRCO Community Federal Credit Union, who set the wheels in motion to lend their support to the show when it first launched in 2008 and have continuously sponsored the Dirt Track Heroes Car Show through the show's first four years of the show's existence, have taken a lateral move for the upcoming event set to return to the Phillipsburg Mall in 2012 with opening day set for Sunday, March 4th.

The show encompasses the majority of the local short track scene and will continue through Saturday night, March 10th. The Phillipsburg Mall, located on Route 22 East in Phillipsburg, NJ, has proven to be a popular setting for this special event and will offer a multitude of race cars, racing memorabilia, collectibles and photos on display throughout the course of the show. The 2011 edition of the show produced a record breaking 141 cars from all divisions of racing and filled the Mall space as the always free of charge racing event continues to be the trend setter of the many shows that are scheduled during the year. With an exciting and diverse schedule of events to whet the appetite of any true race fan, large crowds are expected to fill the wide walkways of the Phillipsburg Mall. This event has been a traditional Mall favorite and one of the leading attractions, continuously drawing record breaking crowds for the week-long event.

Once again Smith Fabrications, the home of the Stage One Modifieds, will play an important role in this year's edition of the show. The Smith name has remained in the local racing scene for the past six decades as father Roy Smith was a pioneer in the golden era of racing with his signature numbered 555 race cars that had many top drivers wheeling the equipment such as Freddy Adam, Bobby Bottcher, Billy Tanzosh and Richie Smith among them. "Rapid Rich", while leaving the driver's seat in the mid-90's, used his years of knowledge gained while steering a race car to come up with a scaled version of the full sized Modifieds he drove to many wins in his racing career and came up with the cutting edge Stage One Modified. Incorporating his solid background in racing and the technical know how to improve upon the finished product, the Stage One Modified is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship from the master fabricator Richie Smith. The Stage One race car is beautiful to look at and the performance of the car on the race track is a thrill a second for those who have tried the equipment on for size. Touting affordability and safety as the race car's primary selling points, a ready to race unit is priced in the neighborhood of $12,000.00 and with the recent announcement the Stage One Modifieds will becoming a regular attraction this season at the always exciting Hamlin Speedway, traveling to the races will not rob anyone blind at the gas pumps.

In discussing the Stage One racer with Richie Smith, he stated, "Our goal was to build a sharp-looking and safe race car for those who desire to leave the quarter midget, go kart and slingshot ranks. What we have come up accomplishes our mission as the Stage One car has the same characteristics as a full size Modified with all of the thrill, the need for speed and a more affordable way to go racing". Richie further added, "Our Stage One group is excited about racing the entire season at the Hamlin Speedway. The track is wide with banking and very racy and my brother Randy works his magic in keeping the speedway and the grounds in tip top shape. We are looking forward to a great season at Hamlin". IRCO will remain a big part of the show as they will sponsor the stage area where the nightly shows will be presented. Vice President of IRCO, Greg Collins, will become part of the announcing team lined up for the shows that include the longtime broadcasting team of Ed and Steve Pados from Gasoline Alley fame, veteran announcer Bobby Stull, Bridgeport and Thunder announcer Jeff Ahlum and former Lake Mocatek co-announcer Justin Beltrame. Collins, who serves as the noted historian of the Harmony Speedway, is expected to have much of his memorabilia from the Harmony Speedway for the event and Beltrame will once again spearhead and show the vast collection of Lake Mocatek material he has collected over the years.

The "Golden Era" of auto racing from the late fifties through the early eighties was an era that saw many changes take place in the way the race cars were constructed. The word "stock" gave way to ingenuity at first and followed closely by technology as the race cars became less stock appearing and relied more heavily on the latest speed part that would make the race car go faster. While the years have changed the look and the cost of racing, the spirit of the competition remains much as it was when racing in the local area was launched. The great fan base of racing can come out to this grand Mall event and be transported back to a time when they could hop into their family jitney and travel less than a half hour to witness the excitement of a night at the races. All historical racing groups including Reading, Flemington, Harmony, Dorney Park and Nazareth will have their memorabilia on display and their many scrapbooks open for the fans to take another long look at the glory years of racing and possibly find a picture or two they want to purchase as a keepsake from past glory or racing exploits.

Entries Pouring In For 27th Annual Racing Legends Reunion & Car Show At Fairgrounds Square Mall Feb. 19-25; Nightly Schedule Of Activities Planned

READING, PA - Entries are pouring in for the 27th annual Racing Legends Reunion & Car Show.

The showcase of auto racing's past, present and future is planned for Feb. 19-25 at the Fairgrounds Square Mall of Reading, Pa. - the former site of the Reading Fairgrounds Speedway. More than 100 race vehicles are expected to jam the mall on 5th Street Highway in Muhlenberg Township for the weeklong event. Entries have been brisk as the show approaches. Space is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Racing Legends Reunion & Car Show offers FREE admission and an opportunity to showcase auto racing, its participants and sponsors to the general public. The show is open to all racers, speedways, clubs and sanctions. All types of racing vehicles, ranging from Quarter Midgets to Sportsman, Late Models, big- and small-block Modifieds, SCCA cars, Micro-Sprints, Slingshots, XCel 600 Modifieds and more will be on display.

Vendors will be on hand selling racing collectibles and novelties, while the Reading Fairgrounds Speedway Racing Historical Society draws up memories of a speedway that will never be forgotten.

Bridgeport (N.J.) Speedway, under the direction of Doug and Gena Hoffman for the 2012 season, will be represented at the Racing Legends Reunion & Car Show. The Hoffmans will speak to racers and divulge their plans as they begin a two-year lease agreement at the South Jersey facility.

Each night of the show will feature a theme: Open Wheel Excitement featuring ARDC, URC, TSRS and more (Monday, Feb. 20), Modified Madness showcasing the stars of the region's big- and small-block Modified ranks (Tuesday, Feb. 21), Sportsman/Late Model Showcase (Wed., Feb. 22) and Small Car Spotlight (Thurs., Feb. 23).

On Friday night (Feb. 24), the annual 'Home of Champions' Reading Fairgrounds Speedway Reunion is joined by a Grandview (Pa.) Speedway 50th Anniversary celebration at center court beginning at 7 p.m. Dave Kelly, the winner of the historic final event at the Reading Fairgrounds Speedway, will return north from his home in Florida to participate in Friday's festivities.

BRIDGEPORT, NJ - Dirt Modified teams, put on your poker face. During the 2012 season at Bridgeport Speedway, Doug Hoffman will present an innovative 'Poker Series' of high-paying events for Modifieds.

Hoffman, the first-year promoter of the South Jersey facility, brings the unique concept from the quarter-mile paved Mahoning Valley (Pa.) Speedway, where the events were well received by fans and competitors in recent years. Race No. 1 of the 'Poker Series' will be historic. On Sat., March 31, Bridgeport's five-eighths-mile oval hosts the traveling Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour for the first time ever. The RoC Dirt Tour, managed by Andrew Harpell, hosts events in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania with a wide cross-section of driving talent.

The remaining 'Poker Series' dates are Sun., May 27, Wed., July 4, Mon., Sept. 3 and Sat., Nov. 10. Dates have been adjusted from the tentative '12 schedule distributed during the Motorsports 2012 show to avoid conflicts with neighboring speedways.

At each 'Poker Series' event, the winner receives an Ace (A), second a King (K), third a Queen (Q) and so on down to the 13th-place finisher receiving a Deuce (2). Following the completion of the five-race series, the driver with the best poker hand receives $2,500, second $1,500 and third $1,000. The driver with the worst hand receives $1,000. Drivers must participate in all five events to be eligible for a points fund.

"This is a concept I can call 'mine,'" Hoffman said. "Some of our best events at Mahoning Valley were our 'Poker Series' races. People loved those races. I want to bring that excitement to the fans Bridgeport. This series is a great way to spread point money throughout a field, which will benefit our racers. The guy who makes money winning a couple of the races may not be the guy at the end taking most of the point money home."

Brett Deyo of BD Motorsports Media will manage publicity for the five 'Poker Series' races at Bridgeport, coordinating press releases, race-day promotions, contingency awards for racers, apparel sales, etc. Deyo successfully co-promotes special events at Penn Can (Pa.) Speedway and Five Mile Point (N.Y.) Speedway.

"Our staff will be busy operating Bridgeport two nights a week during the season," Hoffman said. "Having Brett work on publicity with Mike (Wisniewski, Bridgeport's season-long PR rep) for the 'Poker' events will ensure the special events at Bridgeport get the extra attention and hype they deserve."

Bob Hilbert Sportswear of Boyertown, Pa., has signed on to produce special edition Bridgeport Speedway 'Poker Series' apparel to be sold at each event.

Hoffman, a legendary dirt Modified racer from Allentown, Pa., signed a two-year lease agreement to operate Bridgeport Speedway on Jan. 7. He previously promoted Mahoning Valley Speedway for seven years.

BECHTELSVILLE, PA January 28, 2012 . . . Variety may be the keynote word for racing at Grandview Speedway in 2012.
The recently released schedule of events, kicking off with a free-to-the-public practice session at noon on Saturday, March 31st, will offer a variety of different types of motorsports as the 50th anniversary season goes on.
The practice session is expected to attract everything from Modifieds to Enduro cars.
The NASCAR 358 Modifieds, long the main Saturday night attraction at the NASCAR sanctioned one-third-mile, clay banked oval, will be back as the Saturday night primary attraction. And the Late Models, a long time popular part of racing at Grandview, will continue to be a regular Saturday night attraction.
New this year is the addition of the Sportsman class of competition. Specs will be based closely to those used at other area tracks. To help fans identify the Sportsman race cars that closely resemble the 358 Modifieds the Sportsman will be allowed to run sail panels. This will be optional until May 1 when sail panels will become mandatory.
The sail panels must be 65 inches from the ground to the top of the panel and the back edge of the sail panel extends no farther than the edge of rear spoiler.
There will be no sail panels on the NASCAR 358 Modifieds.

It has also been announced that a driver will not be able to run more than one division on any race night.
The chase for the point titles will kick off on Saturday, April 7th at 7 p.m. with 358 Modifieds, Late Models and Sportsman stock cars. Adult admission for the regular shows will be just $15 while young people under 12 will be admitted free for the regular events.
All three regular divisions will have their own point fund.
Everyone entering the pits will be required to have a NASCAR license with the primary division drivers (Modifieds) paying $195 for a 2012 license while all others will pay $90. NASCAR license applications are available at the various mall shows that the track is participating in or telephone (610)754.7688.
Each division champion will receive a custom created ring at the annual awards banquet at the end of the season in addition to the point money.
Each championship winning driver in Modifieds, Late Models and Sportsman will be entitled to free pit admission for the next season.
The 2012 NASCAR 358 Modified champion and a guest will be part of the 50th Anniversary Reunion Cruise (nine days departing Bayonne, NJ on November 24th). 2011 champion Jeff Strunk and his guest will be part of the cruise. ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - (January 26, 2012) - There are three TQ Midget drivers who have savored victory in the coveted Gamblers Classic Indoor race not once, but twice.
Unique among them is Joe Payne, Jr., of Fairlawn, N.J.
The 10th edition of the event known as the Gamblers Classic, run under the direction of Len Sammons and staff, is planned for Friday and Saturday nights Feb. 3-4, 2012.
A winner for the first time in the 2004 Gamblers Classic, Payne survived a catastrophic, life-threatening accident in a summer outdoor, 2006 Midget crash. He then returned to Boardwalk Hall in 2007 to win the Classic a second time.
Payne, a past Three Quarter Midget circuit champion, and expert NEMA Midget and Super modified driver during the summer, is among 80 drivers who will manhandle the powerful TQ (three quarter) Midgets around the tenth-mile Boardwalk Hall track.
“The accident (at Stafford Springs, Ct.) cracked my helmet and bent the left side of the seat straight out,” Payne said. “The seat manufacturer couldn’t believe I had survived when he saw the seat. It took awhile to recover from that one,” admitted Payne.
Three other classes, the mechanical bull-like dirt 600cc Micro-Sprints, the slamming’ Slingshots and the guided missile Champ Karts will be in competition.
Nearly sixty Champ kart teams, three dozen Slingshot specialists, and 32 dirt 600cc Micro Sprint men and machines have paid the entry fee to secure a spot on the roster.
That number is expected to grow as this weekend’s race date approaches. Over two hundred cars have entered to date.
Payne, who also has two second place finishers in the ‘Gamblers’ (2008, 2009), will be driving a 2011 model car built by New York master TQ Midget builder Mike Lafler. Lafler’s cars have a reputation for durability and safety, important considerations for Payne since his accident.
Vintage TQ midgets, an added class for 2012, will be showcased on Friday, Feb. 3 throughout Boardwalk’s Hall spectator concourse with many of their drivers and owners on hand to sign autographs.
Vintage Cars will then be displayed and drivers will be available for autographs and photos during the interactive Saturday evening Fanfest session prior to the beginning of racing program. A controlled exhibition race will follow among the vintage cars and their drivers. These retired drivers will hand out full-size souvenir pennants to the first five hundred youngsters during Fanfest as well.
The Vintage TQ program has been assembled by noted racing engineer Gary Mondschein, who himself was a TQ Midget and full size Midget driver for many years.
The Fan Fest pre-race autograph signing session will also provide opportunities for lucky fans to win valuable prizes.
Through the courtesy of 600cc Micro Sprint car sponsor and entrant JR Michalski Heating &?Air Conditioning of Langhorne, Pa., two lucky young fans will win I-Pods. The free-to-enter drawing will take place at trackside at the conclusion of Fan Fest by the side of Brett Michalski’s 600cc Micro Sprint.

Big Diamond Announces Five Race Series Sponsored by AMSOIL

Big Diamond Speedway and AMSOIL are joining forces to offer Sportsman competitors a five race series at Big Diamond in 2012. Each race will pay $1,000 to win the twenty lap feature event.

The first in this series of five races will take the green flag on Sunday, April 15^th. May 4^th, June 29^th, July 20^th and August 17^th will complete the series with August 24^th being reserved as a rain date for any of the five races if it becomes necessary.

A separate point system will be maintained for this five race series. The overall winner will receive a trophy, $700 in cash and a case a month of the AMSOIL product of the winner’s choice. The driver who finishes second in series’ points will receive $350 in cash and six cases of an AMSOIL product of their choice. Should the final points result in a tie, the winner will be determined by a three lap, one-on-one match race.

Each of these five events will also carry regular points toward the Big Diamond Track Championship.

In order to be eligible for the point fund and the $1,000 to win, a driver must compete in all five races. An AMSOIL decal must also be displayed on a designated area on the right side of the race car.

The point breakdown for the Amsoil series will be – 1st - 15 points, 2nd-10 points, 3rd - 9, 4th - 8, 5th - 7, 6th - 6, 7th - 5, 8th - 4, 9th - 3, 10th-2. One point each to all remaining positions.

Sportsman competitors at Big Diamond will have two more opportunities at $1,000 paydays. On June 22nd, the Sportsman will compete in a special 40 lap Anniversary Event and at season end, the Sportsman Coalcracker 50 will also have a $1,500 payoff.

Open Competition Sprint Cars get four race dates at Big Diamond

    "Open competition", "run what you brung" or "just about anything goes" describes the return of 410 Sprint Car racing at the Big Diamond Speedway in 2012!
    For many seasons, an "open" class of sprint cars - up to 410 cu in engines - have competed at the Clinton County Fairgrounds. During 2011, that run came to an end.
    During the 2012 racing season, these former Clinton County competitors will compete in God's Country as part of four Friday night racing programs. The Open Competition Sprint Cars will first compete on Friday night, April 27 in addition to a full card of 358 Modifieds, Sportsman and Roadrunners. The same line-up is scheduled for Friday, May 4. The Open Competition Sprint Cars will return on Friday, June 29 as part of the Race 2a Cure Night at Big Diamond. The final appearance of the Open Competition Sprint Cars will be on Friday, August 24 which will also be the final night of points for the Modifieds, Sportsman and Roadrunners.
     Scott Lutz, one of the group's regular competitors, describes it this way. "We allow anything up to 410 cubic inches. We allow the old disc style wings or the newer flat top wings." "We're for the little guy - we may buy 5-6 brand new tires in a season!." Lutz continued. "We run for a lower purse but with twenty cars starting the feature, you'll see a good show. We all help each other - it's what racing is all about!"

LONG POND, Pa. -- Dr. Joseph Mattioli, Pocono Raceway founder and chairman of the board, passed away Thursday at the Lehigh Valley Hospital Center, surrounded by his family, following a lengthy illness. He was 86.
"Doc," as he was known to friends and associates, was one of the most respected and admired men in automobile racing. He founded Pocono Raceway in the early 1960s and has been at the helm of Pocono ever since. Under his leadership, the track grew in stature and has hosted 68 Cup Series events. His passion and drive helped Pocono succeed when other tracks fell by the wayside. Pocono is the only remaining family-owned and run track on the Cup schedule.

Dr. Joseph Mattioli

Mattioli was always concerned that race fans and race car drivers and their families were treated with the utmost respect and constantly upgraded procedures and raceway facilities to meet that goal. He kept his fingers on the pulse of stock-car racing and read everything printed concerning the sport. He was in the office daily, until this past fall, and oversaw all aspects of the track's operations.
At age 83, Mattioli spearheaded an ambitious solar-energy project. He built a three-megawatt photovoltaic solar energy system on 25 acres at the raceway. It is the world's largest solar-powered sports facility, making Pocono a leader in the renewable energy and environmental fields.
Mattioli also was well respected in the community. In 2009, he received the Philanthropic Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Association of Fundraising Professionals for his generous and continuous contributions to local civic organizations, hospitals, schools and charities. He served on the board of directors of numerous organizations and was dedicated to improving the quality of life in northeastern Pennsylvania.
Mattioli served in the Pacific during World War II as a Navy medic. Using the G.I. Bill, he enrolled in the dentistry program at Temple University (where he met his soon to be wife, Rose.) Upon graduation, he developed his dental practice into a very lucrative business by working 12 to 14 hour days, six and sometimes seven days a week. He then began investing in and developing properties in Philadelphia and northeastern Pennsylvania where he became involved in the start-up of Pocono Raceway.
Dr. Mattioli is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dr. Rose Mattioli, daughters Louie and Michele and son Joseph Mattioli III, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His passing leaves a void in the NASCAR community and especially to his family and extended Pocono Raceway family.
"The entire NASCAR family is saddened by the loss of a true icon in our sport, Dr. Joe Mattioli," NASCAR chairman Brian France said. "Doc's relationship with my family reaches three generations, all the way back to my grandfather. His passion for the sport will live on in the hearts of his family and our fans. His contributions to our sport are wide-spread. We have lost a great leader -- and a great person. NASCAR offers its deepest condolences to his wife, Rose, and the entire Mattioli family."

Bob Miller, special events organizer began the Thunder on the Hill Racing Series in 1990 with Grandview Speedway Owner Bruce Rogers and 410 sprint car driver Dave Kelly. Since that first Thunder show , one-hundred-and-two events were presented on the "hill" at Grandview Speedway. The Thunder Series offered a variety of divisions including nationally recognized groups like USAC, SCRA, CRA, and the World of Outlaws to name a few.

Over the years, Miller has branched out to present special events at other speedways to include two Down, Dirty & Wild Super Dirt Series event at the Big Diamond Speedway. It was the first ever visit by the Super Dirt Series in God's Country. Miller also teamed up with Delaware International Speedway Promoter Charlie Cathell to bring the Super Dirt Series to the Delmarva facility.

Miller presented as many as six events at the Bridgeport Speedway including a co-promotion with Glenn Donnelly, bringing a Super Dirt Series 200 to Bridgeport, a two day season finale event in South Jersey. The 410 sprints were part of Miller's efforts at Bridgeport along with one of his biggest successes, a co-promotion with Bridgeport Speedway owner Ed Kelly in the tracks 2003 season finale won by Doug Hoffman, a show that drew a field of over seventy modifieds.

In 2010, Miller and Bruce Rogers brought about the return of the USAC non-wing sprints to New Jersey after a 32 year absence from the state. The prior visit by USAC to New Jersey took place at the Flemington Fair Speedway in an event that took the life of famed sprint and modified driver Toby Tobias. USAC returned to New Egypt in 2011 and joins the Eastern Storm scheduled again this year.

In 2011, Miller and event co-organizer and good friend Ray Herold lured the modifieds to the Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, PA. After a twenty-year absence at the "pigeon hills" race track, the roar of the big block modifieds returned in 2011. The show will advertised as the "Battle at Lincoln" and featured the ROC Modifieds and 358/360 Sprints in a double-header that was a thriller. The show was such a success that they sold out of programs and the special event t-shirt.

VIPER VENOM POSTS PLENTY OF FUEL FOR URC RACERS IN 2012

Paul Messick of Viper Venom Fuels will be returning to URC in 2012 offering a free drum of Viper Fuel to the feature winner if they are using the product. This program will be offered throughout the season for all URC events in 2012 and is limited to one free drum per team. Viper Fuel offers 99.99% pure methanol for $135 per fifty-five gallon drum and is available by contacting Paul Messick at 302-757-6918 or by e-mail at sales@vipervenomfuels.com.

The feature winner will receive their free drum of Viper Fuel when arranging their next purchase of fuel. "We gained a lot of exposure working with URC in the past and look forward to another great season", said Messick.

URC will open their 2012 Rislone Sprint Series at the Delaware International Speedway on Saturday, April 28. The Potomac (MD) and Winchester (VA) Speedway's are new stops on the schedule for URC in the coming season. Last year marked the return to the Port Royal Speedway for URC, unfortunately bad weather forced the cancellation of that event, Port Royal is back on URC's schedule for 2012 on Saturday night, August 25.

Special events already on the schedule include the $3,500 to win Jack Gunn Memorial to take place at the Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday, May 12 and the Rislone Nationals paying $5,000 to win at the Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, August 3rd. Pioneer Pole Buildings is also returning as a sponsor of the season finale at Grandview on Saturday night, October 13 offering $3,000 to the winner of the 25 lap feature event.

At this time, URC is not looking to add more dates to the 2012 schedule, but we are working at increasing the payoff at two of the existing events. Feedback over the past weekend was positive that our schedule is offering the right number of events for our competitors based on the economy and expected travel expenses in the new season. The obvious decline in race dates is due to less shows at the Delaware International Speedway and the missing dates from Georgetown and Rolling Wheels.

All regular URC sprint features pay $2,000 to the winner with several higher paying events throughout the season. In 2011, URC paid out during the season $15,000 through the Rislone Loyalty Program, rewarding car owners for their weekly support and loyalty. Similar programs are being arranged for the coming season and will be announced over the next few weeks.

Another incentive offered to URC competitors in the coming season is the tire pricing. Thanks to American Racer and support from Rislone, URC competitors will be paying an all time lowest cost for their tires. An American Racer right rear will sell for $159, the left rear for $155 and fronts may be purchased for $138, unheard of pricing for sprint car tires today. Adjusting the tire pricing with some of the Rislone URC point fund money will help all our competitors throughout the entire Rislone URC Sprint Series.

For the race fans, URC will spice up the program by using the Delaware Start for all original starts and restarts up to, two laps to go. The Delaware State will feature the pole car all alone on the front row with the rest of the field double file. This is expected to provide more passing and offer drivers who start deep in the pack, an opportunity to be in contention for the lead in the late stages of the race.
