Parcha Exhibition II

Seems like the last four months have been swallowed up rapidly by time. Between classes and full time work I also committed myself to take part in the Parcha Exhibition 2 with the Parcha team.

The turn out at the rehearsal was not the greatest but I had a great time meeting those present. Great day for networking as I met more inspiring minds.

Below are some snapshots from the rehearsal followed by the poster and event schedule. I shall post the pictures of the events after tomorrow.

Time off..

Ever since classes ended I have found it difficult to find the motivation to really get into any form of creativeness between long hours at work. July was packed with various celebrations including a fancy dress party which was fairly interesting and August was hectic as I flew back home to nepal for three weeks.

Overall my hours this summer were mostly spent at work as I am trying to save up £££ for my final major project.

Lately I've been inspired and touched by truly unexpected subjects. Below are two..

Deserts. Vanilla cheesecake with caramelised strawberries. Very haute couture or what? I need to learn to bake such intricate edible deserts!!

There was an exhibition on at The Great Hall in Winchester by the Mouth and Foot painters. They are painters who basically paint using their mouth or foot due to some form of disability. I feel lucky to have witnessed an artist at work on the day. It was overwhelming and it made me realise nothing is impossible when you are dedicated to something love!

My parents threw me a lovely 21st birthday party a few weeks ago where most of my friends and relatives were present. It was a hectic night but my father managed to take some lovely pictures so thanks dad!

Up in the air... was beautiful to watch five lanterns one after the other...

Feeling the sisterly love with my two cousins after the cake cutting i.e. everyone smeared cake all over my face. The jumpsuit I wore was from Zara, very minimal alongside a pair of very minimal black suede heels with a gold ankle clasp from River Island.

Past month has been very busy hence the lack of posts! Cannot believe it is now august, however I am looking forward to the coming few weeks as I will be flying to the other side of the world to visit the rest of my family in Nepal. Should be a nice break from long hour shifts and various projects.

Last time I experienced a holographic image live was at the Design Museum in London at the Christian Louboutin exhibition.

Found this video fascinating as it mixes the thought of fashion and science which is another ongoing trend for the coming years.

Lately I've been working everyday at various places hence the lack of post! I came across this designer via a trend report on WGSN.

These images are the most influential from her collections since 09. The leather and metal mix gives her design a futuristic glam. Creates a strong yet vulnerable women in other words 21st century romance and luxury enjoy!

Footwear that caught my eye: Topshop platforms from Amy Whitelaw's collection. I am considering on purchasing a pair for this summer as it was very comfortable when I tired it on. Only factor that is stopping me is the thought of the pony the material was sourced from.

Amanda Thompson's outfit. Very Vivienne Westwood. Particularly adore the shrivelled leather gloves in the head wear as they look nothing like gloves.

One of the make up artists form L'Oreal was wearing the MARNI for H&M acrylic flower necklace.

There were very little menswear collections this year as you can see from the running order board in the previous post. This one was my favourite by Shana Lao. I wish more men were confident enough to wear skirts apart from kilts.

This year I did not get as excited as the 2011 show for many reasons. Mostly due to the fact I didn't work closely with the third years this time around. However I did go along to help out with the shows in Winchester and London. The images below are from the London Truman Brewery Show that took place on Monday 28th May.

Austere II

Past months have been painful. Having to juggle a few part time jobs alongside attending university full time is not easy especially towards deadlines. Finally the second year is over but now I'm left unsure of how I feel.

Next few months, I aim not to waste as the value of time is unmeasurable. Back in the beginning of semester one I chose Max as my muse for a menswear project. We met briefly for a photo shoot towards the end of the project and I handed him a little something as a gratitude.

A few days ago he surprised me with a web link via a short text.

This morning I realised why I am not the greatest with words. Whilst deep in discussion with a dear friend it came to attention that I can never explain my thoughts and concepts clearly with words as it is often always to complex.

The main reason > > >I'm a 'visual' person.

These images are all works of Lex Pott via WGSN Trend Report for A/W12-13. The simple overlapping shapes create a geometric pattern which is enhanced by clever used of colour. Inspiration for my current project which is finally rolling at a good pace after such a slow start. Will do my best to post at least once a week but with such a tight schedule it is proving to be extremely difficult!!

Lately I've moved on from Instragram to Pinterest which is a virtual mood board that you can pin images and videos on. Pretty handy when on the move, if you come across something you like you can just pin it and voila!

These images below are of Cha Jong-Rye. The hard wood fools the eye as the surface texture looks ever so soft, almost as if its a ruched piece of silk.

MARNI Furniture

Apologies for the absence as for the past few weeks I've been visiting a blurry land of my own. Easter break was supposed to help me catch up on everything I've been falling back on but didn't quite happen.

Reality check, now classes have started again I'm beginning to worry about the new trendsetting project we have been assigned. This final project should be a breath of fresh air as its a collaboration with weave and print students.

Whilst researching, came across the MARNI furniture collection that was displayed at the Milan Furniture Fair. It consisted of (limited edition) 80 chairs, 10 deckchairs, 10 tables which were all handmade. A successful collaboration with the charity Columbian Craftsmen unlike the one with H&M in my personal opinion.

Love how the Marni have put simplicity and colour together on these pieces.

Absence of the Mind

Delirium was the main focus on my project that just ended but actually never seems to end. Only have another so many illustrations to do and finish off the garment. The video above is a short animation which I have tried to portray the disturbance of purity in the mind by a physical conflict.

Week before week, I assume my body just gave up and crashed last Friday form pressure of uni work and my job. Quite ironic that I was bed ridden for the week of my Easter break. Feeling fresher now and really enjoying the sunshine. Hope you all are well too.

I've been wearing skirts a lot lately because of the found comfort of jersey.

Finally these sandals have been liberated from the shoe rack. The pastels were from last season Kurt Geiger whereas the black pair are form current spring season at H&M.

Began working on the new project properly since Tuesday that just passed and I've never found it so difficult or struggled to explain my concept. The brief outlines that work must be inspired by primary research from a museum exhibit, a gallery or culture.

After visiting a few exhibits in January it feels unnecessary to travel to London as I already have enough resources to reference to. This project is inspired by 'Frontline: A Year of Journalism & Conflict' exhibit which I saw back in late January. My aim is to focus on the physical part but the mental side of conflict. The effects it causes one to suffer may it be temporary or permanent. How exactly am I going to portray it? Well I'm working on it now.

Jersey Project

Last three weeks I've been occupied by a Jersey project which limited the use of fabrics to only knitted. 'Make a Change' was the theme so I decided to base the project on something other then recycling, something I felt more passionate about. Religion and Politics.

Looking into conflicts and disturbance across the world I slowly began to realise that religion is not the main cause. Its ego that a being holds within themselves which causes conflict. After a few readings of Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi I understood the concept of Sufism straight away. Being an atheist myself, I began to practise Sufism for a few days to experience it for myself and now I couldn't agree with their preaching more.

Back to the project, we were briefed to come up with one outfit all in knitted fabric so I took my inspiration from a Bollywood movie Jodha Akhbar and Sufism and it's preachings. My design consisted of two layers.

Layer 1 - Green jersey and black tulle cape dress to portray the restriction ego in a person causes.

Layer 2 - Yellow silk jersey dress that signifies freedom from everything including yourself.

These three images are my personal favourite from the shoot but weren't the chosen ones for my submission. The ones below were.

For me this was more then a project. I finally found peace and my mind is now in pace with everything going on in my life. Thank you Jess for being an awesome model!

All Things Red

It's Valentines day again and I spent it with my lovely mannequin in the studio as every other day. Hope you had a better day then mine. Seeing as it's a 'red' day here are some personal pictures I have not posted yet, as you can see all red bar the finale.

If this was the staircase to heaven or any place above earth I would run faster then Usain Bolt himself as there is no where I'd rather wish to be currently.

However it was only an installation. Very amazing one though at the Tate Modern.

If I die can you please create something like this for me? It doesn't need to be as large.

Delicate pins pierce the coated paper. Must be a soothing experience as wrong as that sounds. Satisfying pain would be the description.

Today was a complete waste all thanks to my dentist who decided to inform my appointment was cancelled completely last minute! Spent the morning in the studio completing 'bits & bobs'. Then in the afternoon sketched away to fill up the untouched sketchbook whilst surfing the world wide web to catch up on whatever I was missing out.

I don't think it is possible any more for me to avoid opening Adobe Illustrator and starting my technical drawings as Friday is only days away.

However here are some of the latest images of Joan Smalls in campaigns and runways I saw today. Only happens to be my favourite model :)

Madness

In a week I have managed to drain myself to the point I'm using tiger balm oil to fix my back. Something older Asians tend to use for those not aware of the magical substance. Week began last Sunday at a Nepali wedding which felt awkward as I didn't know the couple personally. i.e. all guests were strangers bar a few, hence no crazy dancing that I normally do :(

I've been living in the studio literally everyday early morning till late afternoon/evening working on my final pieces for the 3 week jersey project. Surely one would assume life gets easier but it seems to be worse! High expectations form everyone in a very short time frame, feels like depression but only worse! It should be over this week as my presentation is on Friday :)

Week ended last night perfectly at a close friend's place for her early 21st celebrations. I wish I could cook like her mother. Emma your dishes were truly wonderful!! Apart from the shockingly pricey flower arrangements and a iPhone 'plopping' into the toilet (luckily before use and not mine thank god)everything went smoothly.

I've been thinking of buying this clutch, H&M ss12 but I think I'll buy it in black as the coming days are all about pastels. Black should remain a classic peice to go with every season no matter what the colour pallete is.

A mixture of old with new is what makes contemporary. My outfit for the Nepali wedding consisted of a bright orange (currently in love with this colour) sari worn with my mother's blouse form over 20 years ago!

My sister and a friend of ours were both in classic silk prints. I love this picture -__- It makes a difference to see some natural smiles.

Tate:Modern

Walking along the southbank everyday was fun but COLD! I went for a quick visit to the Tate Modern to see if I could see any inspiring 'art'. I didn't find much inspiration for my new project, however walked into a shop called Joy which had reasonable clothing but amazing accessories. lots of gold, beige and nude metals. There isn't much online but if you live nearby or happen to be in the area I'd recommend you to go!!

Reminded me of our school visits, shame I don't have the chance to meet up with everyone anymore but one day I shall drag them all back to the Tate.

For me this was a work of art. Everything was clashing but she wore it with confidence and pulled it off.

Somerset House: Exhibits

I went along to Somerset House last week to see two exhibitions during another lunch break. First I saw the 20 Years of Dazed & Confused Magazine, Making It Up As We Go Along later followed on by the Frontline: A Year of Journalism & Conflict. The second one was very disturbing as it was based on all the riots that took place one by one all over the world.

Last week I travelled to London everyday as I was working at the BFI Southbank (samsung digital art exhibition) for a week. It was fun, inspiring but very tiring!! During my short lunch breaks I decided to explore southbank a bit more so I took walks to see what there was to see.

In this particular shop you can actually watch the designers at work and see the jewellery being made as they have a workspace inside.

This is part of the OXO Tower building which is filled with design studios, project space, gallery and plenty of paces to dine. Its a great place for unique contemporary pieces may it be jewellery or furbishing. However the best part is the restaurant and the viewing gallery on the top floor that lets you over look the Thames.

Inspiration for the next knit and jersey project. Religion and Politics are the main cause of war and death. Something I feel far more passionate about then the environment so it shall be my focus on the 'Make A Change' project we have been set.
