Fedor
Interesting fight, Fedor vs. Brett Rogers.  While Rogers beat up Fedor for a round, Fedor like a lot of time came from behind and knocked him out, even with a broken nose, and injured hand.  Fedor is a Russian Machine, but I hate the fact he isn’t in the UFC, Rogers while OK is only a 3 year MMA vet, and Fedor has beaten everyone else over there, he really needs to come to the UFC and try out guys like Brock Lesnar, Shane Carwin, Cain Valezquez, even Randy Couture (although I wanted to see that fight 3 year ago).

Jake Sheilds while not the most exciting fight did do a decent job going up in weight, will be interesting to see if he can last there, Gergard Mousasi is another guy who needs to get into the UFC and fight Machida, what a fight that could be.

I have a family of clients I work with that are Katrina Survivors, and they want to go back to LA.  Why?  They got great benefits if welfare and health insurance as well as big help with college, they got nothing in LA.  Well maybe hurricane threats.

Swine Flu Updates
So, my son went back to school today, feeling much better, so is my wife.  I got a call on my cell from my client with Stiff Person Syndrome.  She has had some issues with the flu the past few weeks, and called me today telling me she was having issue breathing and was a bit incoherrent.  I immediately called an ambulance cause one of the issue with SPS is diaphragm spasm, and with a flu on top makes it difficult to breathe.  I met the ambulance as she was loading up to inform the EMTs of her medical conditions, she was happy to see me.  SPS is so rare most medical personel have never heard of it and laugh at the name, and then label someone with it as psychotic.

She is back home tonight, the Hospital got her stabilized and on some new meds, which seemed to really help her, and she doesn’t have H1N1.  It was really funny to see the 3 cops and 3 EMT’s all wearing surgical masks, and I drive up.  They offered me one, but I told them I had been dealing with it from the wife and kids for over a week, and didn’t need one.

BIGTIME!
Got to thank Dr. Murk for calling me this afternoon telling me Big Time was on Ovation Television this afternoon.  DVR’ed and watched it, good stuff.  Drove my wife crazy, too . . . “CAN YOU TURN THAT DOWN!”  She hates Tom Waits.

Teenage Riot from Sonic Youth or their first very amazing album Daydream Nation.  You can hear in this song the influence Sonic Youth had on bands as diverse as Oasis, Radiohead, Archers of Loaf, Dinosaur Jr., Pavement, Buffalo Tom, and Lou Barlow.  This 1988 record is probably when I first started getting into Sonic Youth and more indie music, I was about 16.

Schizophrenia from Sonic Youth.  Off their 1987 album Sister.  It shows the band continuing to explore a more poppy sounds while sticking with the noise experiments of their past.  We are now getting into the albums that would become a huge influence on the likes of Nirvana, the Pixies, etc.

Sister itself is a loose concept album based upon the life and work of Phillip K. Dick.  Most people know Dick’s book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep as the main inspiration for Bladerunner.  Many of his other works have been turned into big movies like Total Recall, Minority Report, and A Scanner Darkly.

If you have never read anything by Dick, read Valis, and play this album while you read it.

Ahh, what a job!
So, Malach spent about 5 hours today at the New Bedford Women’s Center.  And I am not going to tell you what I did all day long there, being the only male there, just to make MOOOOOG very jealous.  I did get my female side empowered I will tell you though.

Talked about this at work today . .
If you see how close the houses are together in this neighborhood, it makes you wonder . .no one saw this guy digging up his yard all those times?  I know if over the course of few years, my neighbor had dug up his yard that many times, and had all these shallow looking graves, I might get a bit suspicious . . . especially the smell, and I live right next to the ocean.

Swine Flu Update
Son had a little bit of a set back today, but feels much better tonight.  He still hasn’t been fever free yet, so he will probably be out of school all week.  Poor guy has his Birthday Party this weekend too . .

Wife is doing worse.  I got other co-workers with kids with it too.  One of my co-workers reported today, her duaghters 30kid 7th grade class, only had 5 kids in it today.  Hey Ma, how’s your work going?  We are setting up Purell station all over our three offices at work.

So we have moved on in Malach Who Should Be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, from Tom Waits to Sonic Youth.  This is very early ‘82 or so Sonic Youth, with Death Valley ‘69.  Song is obviously about Charles Manson and his crew.  Sonic Youth is one of those post punk, early 80’s bands that created something out of punk.  They made more melodic music and inlfluenced a whole generation of artists from Fugazi to Nirvana to The White Stripes.  Sonic Youth, along with The Replacements, REM, and Husker Du (REM the only one being in the Hall) created indie rock, which to this day is still alive and kicking.

Sonic Youth got a little tighter and even flirted with a little mainstream success in the late 80’s and early 90’s.  Sonic Youth in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame now!

The Family and the Swine Flu.
So my son still has slight symptoms, but is feeling much better, my daughter just goes on like nothing’s happening, I had a nasty chest cold 2 weeks ago, so I think I already had it, and tonight, my wife ends up with it.

In general, they are all doing pretty well, my son is not going to school tomorrow, but the girl is, wife has already been told by her boss to take the week off.

Ouch
So Malach played three hours of 8 on 8 football with the young guys yesterday, little sore, but not too bad, and then today, Malach helped his brother-in-law Kevin, move his mother from one apartment to another.  Mother has terminal cancer, and is in her late 70’s.  Kevin couldn’t find anyone but Malach to help, so me and Kevin moved her entire apartment from a second floor to a first, down the street in about 9 hours, with a little help from my sister-in-law doing smaller stuff later.

His Mother, who is coming out of nursing home on Tuesday, can no longer do 2nd floor stairs.  She was living in a subsidized unit, that used to be part of a old hotel, so it has that typical outdoor balcony stair case.  Kevin stole a wheelchair van from work, and we only broke the lift twice.  Had to make 6 trip between the two places.

The worst part was this large TV Armoire, that was 6 and half feet tall, and about 35″ wide, and weighed 250 lbs.  Yeah, a little sore today . . . gonna sleep well. 

I am used to these kinds of moves, I do this with clients at least once a month.

Feeling much better today, still a slight temp, but he is feeling more like his old self.  Just gotta watch for a replapse, which is the more dangerous part if it happens.  Poor kids couldn’t go out Halloweening, told the wife just to dress him in a hospital johnny and a mask and he could go as a swine flu victim.

Fever Hallucinations
So the son might have the H1N1 virus, he was basically up all night vomiting, with a 101 or so fever, having hallucinations.  Both the wife and I work in human services, so we called his Doctor in the morning who say him right away, poor kid had to wear a mask in the waiting room.  Doctor took one look at him, took the sample and sent it up to CDC in Boston.  He is diagnosing with that even without the test because according to him, they are seeing 20 or so flu cases a day, and ALL are coming back positive.  Of course all my clients have had the flu the past month, and I had a week long chest cold a few weeks ago, so maybe I had too.

Not much they can do for it, just fluids, tylenol, and wait.  Malach is med certified, first aid, CPR, all that stuff, so I know what to look for if it gets worse.  He felt much better today, but the lack of sleep caught up with him.  He’s mad he has “swine flu” and is going to miss Halloween, poor kid, but like I told him, that is what you get for hanging out with pigs.

So, his Fever Hallucinations last night hit home.  Constantly talking, and being very demonstrative, of course I got maybe 2 hours of all night interrupted sleep.  So, when I was his age, I used to get them too.  One my mother remembers, but don’t is a goose that bit me, chasing me around my Memere’s living room.  I have two I remember clear as day, but my sons first.

The first one he had was that there were people in his room he kept calling the “Grunts” that were forcing him to stay in his bed, which of course he proceeded to puke all over.  Not sure what the Grunts are, I am pretty hip to kids entertainment and not familiar with that one.  The other was that he was trying to put all these Pokemon in boxes, and everytime he got them mostly filled one would jump out.

I had very similar type of hallucinations.  My first was that I could not get out of bed if I creased my sheets.  Of course trying to get out of bed caused them to crease, which I would then try to straighten out, of course for every part I straightened out, another part of the sheet would crease.

This other, I acutally had this dream about a year ago, and hadn’t had it since being a kid.  In the dream I am trying to hold onto a Cheerio, the Cheerio keeps getting bigger and bigger, and soon I can no longer hold it, but just before I drop it, it goes back to the size of a Cheerio . . .

Any dream analysts out there want to take a crack at those?

New Website client.
So, I am doing a website for the United Portuguese Women’s Club and I am just putting the finishing touches on it.  I showed you a pic I put up there of some of the ladies who had gotten scholarships in the 1953.  They just sent the girls who won in 2009.  Check it out, it is interesting to compare the two.  A couple of things I find interesting.  The length of the dress are way up, the patterns are very similar, and the hair is down.

T-Shirt Friday
So Malach is joining some of his Blog Buddies in posting the t-shirt you are wearing the last Friday of the month.  Well, Malach thought is was every Friday, so he posted one a few weeks ago, until I was corrected, as luck would have it, I am wearing the same t-shirt today!

So yeah, they were filming a Tom Cruise Movie last night on my way home.
Something called Knight & Day.  Check out the Wiki article, sounds stupid.  So, I drove down their this morning, forgot my phone charger at work, and man did they skidmark up route 18!  Picked a nice road to do it on, that road is a bit of a drag strip.

Today’s excitement
So, I went up to a conference today in Marlborough MA, about a 1 and half hour drive.  It was about housing for Disabled and Elderly.  I got to meet some interesting people from Duval Patrick’s Administration and the Assistant Secretary of HUD for the US.  Got to talk my peice which was cool, and they like how my organization does homelessness housing.  Also talked about the issue with housing for homeless Elderly and Disabled.  Was there most of the day, lunch was good.

More Excitement?
So, on my way home, Route 18 was blocked Northbound, with tape, and Police . . . as I stated to drive down the side street in massive traffic, there was all this private security running around, weird trucks, and other stuff.  Called my parents, they have a police scanner, they got nothing beyond the road being shut down all night.

Wife gets a text about 2 hours after I get home.  Evidently one of her friends saw Tom Cruise shooting a movie.  Man if that was the case, Malach would of run out of his car, took his tall self to stand by Cruise to finally prove how short he is, and then start on the Scientology stuff, and I missed it.

Can find nothing corroborating it yet . . well see.

Also found out one of the guys I play football and softball has H1N1. . .

Hey check out Malach’s New Client!
Yeah, I got them all! Met with his mother today, going to go meet him on Wednesday.  Head injury from birth from forceps, about an 80 IQ.  Was in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong person.  Lost a Spleen and part of a pancreas in this incident, and had little mobility in the arm.  He is currently homeless, let you know how it goes!
