5 Strategies for Creating Killer Blog Titles

Writing a killer blog title can make or break a blog entry. Yes, if you have two identical blog posts, one with a fantastic title and the other with a boring one, the one with the best title will get more traffic and has significantly higher chances of getting submitted to social sites. So now that you know why they are so important, here is how you can make your own titles into killer blog titles that will make everyone want to click on it and read whatever it is you wrote.

What makes a killer title?
Have a look at sites such as Digg. All the front page posts have well written titles, titles that are meant to arouse interest in whatever the article is about. Now take a look at Fark.com. While those are a little longer, they are written with humor and designed so that people cannot resist from clicking on the link.
Capture attention
Your blog post must be well written enough so that people want to read more about what you have said. You need to not only be able to engage the reader, but make it irresistible for people who have an interest in the topic area - and hopefully interesting enough for people who aren’t in the topic area to want to click too. There have been many cases where I have clicked on something on Digg - even things I am not even remotely interested in - simply because I couldn’t help but click because the headline was that good.
Deliver the promise
Anyone can write a Digg-worthy title, but nothing will get it buried faster than not delivering on what the headline promised. Think of it as false advertising… how ticked off would you be to discover that 52″ plasma TV you paid for was actually a cheap 14″ dorm room TV? Well, people will be just as ticked off at you when they expect something entirely different from what your article actually delivered.
Keywords, keywords, keywords
Yes, those pesky search engines love keywords. But since users search for those keywords, you want to make sure that your title has the pertinent keywords in it without going overboard. Instead, make sure your title also reflects what people would search for to find the content offered in the article. That said, don’t go overboard to the point of sounding spammy. On the other hand, don’t go overboard on the fluffy language so no one knows that the blog entry is about at all.
Avoiding duplication
If you tend to write articles around the same content area, make sure that you don’t have too many similarly titled blog posts. So mix them up a bit so that people don’t see the next blog title on the same subject and simply assume that it is the same one they just read.
Avoid naming similar to other’s popular blog post
So your competitor just wrote a blog post that hit the front page of Digg and got blogged seemingly everywhere. And ironically, you have a blog post on the exact same thing… or, more likely, you wrote your own version that you believe is 100x better than your competitors. But the same with duplicating your own blog entry titles, you need to avoid doing the same here. So name it something completely different to increase its odds of hitting front pages because people will tend to not vote or submit it if it seems to be exactly what they voted for two days ago. Or best yet, keep your killer blog title and entry and wait a couple of months before publishing it, when everyone would have long forgotten your competitor’s version on the same thing.
Many will argue that the title of your blog is the most important part of any blog entry, and you should spending time on creating a title that is as perfect as it can be. Because a well written title - so long as it has decent quality content to back it up - will do wonders for the success of your blog overall.

Creating a “Best of Blog” Page & Why You Need One

Many blogs highlight their favorite or most
popular blog posts on the sidebar of their blogs. But if you have a
mountain of content that is being relegated to the depths of your
archive because they were written so long ago, it is probably time to
create a single page that links up your top blog articles.

What’s the best?

First, determine what your top blog content is. If you have kept
analytics since the beginning of your blog’s existence, look and see
which blog entries have had the most number of cumulative page views.
Those should be included. Then consider other blog entries you feel are
the best, but for some reason just didn’t make the most-eyeballs list,
or perhaps they were really well received by a smaller niche than your
blog generally serves. Aim to have at least 20-25 blog entries.

Categorize them

Perhaps the simple blog categories you use for regular blogging just
isn’t the best way to break down your content. Or maybe you tagged many
of your posts with 3 or 4 categories each, and you need to figure what
one would be best suited to the blog. Just don’t do it by date… people
can use the date archives if they want to know what you wrote back in
June of 2006. Now that you have categorized them, divide each blog
entry into a single category. And if you have a couple categories with
only a single entry, go back and find a couple more to put in each. You
want to make sure you have at least two entries in each category.

Write snippets

You don’t necessarily want to have just a page of links, especially if
you have a lot of best posts to show off. So write new and unique
snippets for each blog… really avoid the temptation to just copy the
first sentence from each post. And make the snippets enticing as well,
so that the combination of title and snippet make each one irresistible
to readers.

Create a new page

Now that you have everything you
need, create new page on your blog (a page rather than a blog post per
se which would send it off into the archives. Call the page “Most
Popular Blog Posts” or something similar, so that if people see it in
the blog sidebar, they know exactly what it is if they clicked it.

Regularly update

Once you have created the page, do make sure you go back and update it.
It doesn’t do much good for your readers if the page hasn’t been
updated with any new popular blog hosts for the past six months. So
make a habit of updating every month or so, or adding an entry after
you notice it has a traffic spike.

If your blog is new

If your blog is fairly new, and you only have a handful of those most
popular posts, there is no reason why you can’t have a best blog post
page. Just leave out the categories and perhaps slightly lengthen the
length of your snippets so it doesn’t look too bare. Then as you add
new blog posts, you can add categories later and shorten the snippets
to organize it better.

Promote it

Make note of it in your forum signatures. Comment and link to it from
your own blog so that the longtime readers know it’s there. Include it
in your resume or “about me” page on other sites. Share it when you are
at industry conferences and add it to your speaker bio.

Automate it

There are a few plugins that add article pages with plugins. While not
completely automated, it makes life easier for the lazy blogger.
When you create a best blog post page, it helps
new readers who have just discovered your blog to find the best you
have to offer. This also makes it more enticing for those readers to
subscribe to your blog, since they can easily see just how much great
content you have to offer. And since new blogs can easily implement
this kind of blog strategy, it makes sense to add this to your blog.

Introduction Chapter 1 : Creating Your Blog

Step1: Go To Blogger.com

Blogger.com is owned by Google.com. It is a free site that will allow you to create your own blog. In fact, you will have the option of creating as many blogs as you like – all for free.

Put the following URL into your web browser: http://www.blogger.com
When you do, you will see the following screen. From this screen, there are three things you can do. You can sign in (which will be an option once you’ve created an account), you can take a quick tour (which won’t be necessary if you read the remainder of this chapter, although can be helpful to some learning styles), or you can create your own blog now.
Click on the orange arrow that says, “Create Your Blog Now”

Step 2: Create an Account

For this step, you will need to create a user name and password. It does not matter what user name you choose.
You will also be asked what display name you wish to use. When you post to your blog, this name will be displayed at the end of each post. For now, go ahead and put “editor.” Later, in Chapter 9, you will learn how to change this for each blog if you wish.

Finally, you will need to type in your email address (make sure it is a real address) and check the area that says you agree to their Terms of Service. We have included the Google’s entire Terms of Service in our Appendix.

Once you have entered the information, click on the orange “Continue” arrow.

Step 3: Naming Your Blog.

Now you will get to name your blog. The first area is the Blog Title of your blog. In this example, the blog title is Kidney Stones. That means, the title at the top of the blog will say Kidney Stones. Later, we will show you how to optimize your Blog Title for search engines. The Blog Title can be changed at any time.

Next you will be asked to create a blog address or URL. Notice that the URL does not have the traditional www at the front. Picking a blog address can be a bit tricky. If you want to keyword optimize your URL for AdSense or other marketing purposes, you will want to read Chapter 8 to find out how to pick a good name.

Before clicking on the orange “Continue” arrow, you will be asked to type in the characters you see in the picture below. This makes sure that you are a person and not an autobot creating the blog.

There is one other issue with picking a blog name – the name you want may already be in use. If it is, you will see the following page after clicking continue:

At this point, you simply choose a different blog address.

In the sample above, you might want to try blog-and-ping using the dashes, try reversing the name to pingandblog or ping-and-blog, try bloggingandpinging or blogging-and-pinging, or any other number of variations.

Once you find a URL that is not taken, you can move on to Step 4.

Step 4: Choosing a Template.

Blogger currently has 12 ready-made templates to choose from. It really does not matter which template you choose. Each one will allow you to blog and ping. In the following screen shot, “Son of Moto” has been picked.

After choosing your template, click on the orange “Continue” arrow. As long as you have followed these steps correctly, you will be taken to a screen that let’s you know that your blog has been created. Simply click on the orange “Start Posting” arrow.

Step 5: Creating a Test Post.

In order for the rest of the steps to work properly, you will need to have some content on your blog. Adding content will allow you to create a Yahoo RSS feed in Chapter 4.

The content does not have to be relevant and is easy to add.
• Under “Title” add the word Test.
• There is no need to add anything to the “Link” field.
• In the body of the post, once again, add the word Test.

Then you click on the orange “Publish Post” button.

Once you have published the post, you will see a screen that looks like this:

In the example above, if you clicked on “View Blog” you would see that you now have a blog with the URL http://kidney-stones.blogspot.com, a title of Kidney Stones, and one post titled “test.” That is all there is to creating your blog – so let’s move on to the important settings you must know to make this system work

Just What Is Blogging and Pinging???

There is a new duo in town called Blogging and Pinging. It is not a new comedy team or even a singing group, but a new way to attract visitors to your website and make more money. Blogging and Pinging is a marketing tool that can make anyone a viable website owner.
Let’s start with a definition of a blog.

Blog is short for weblog. A weblog is a journal that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author or the Web site.
Ok, so what about pinging? Originally, a ping was a program that bounced a request off of another computer/server over a network or the Internet to see if the remote computer was responding. That same program is now used as a method of informing others that your blog exists and also let’s them know when a new post has been made.
When you put the two together – blogging and pinging – you get a technique that is extremely effective at getting ANY web site, no matter how big or small, indexed by the major search engines.

Why Is Blogging and Pinging The Newest Marketing Tool?

Most of you are now saying, “Yea, so?? I can get my site indexed now. What’s the big deal?” The big deal is that blogging and pinging gets your site indexed almost immediately AND it is FREE!!!
If you have any experience trying to get a site indexed and listed in the major search engines, then you know that it is frustrating and very difficult to get done in a reasonable amount of time. After working hard to get your site together, collecting and writing content, worrying about keywords and keyword densities, you are not even close to finished. Now comes the even harder part! Now you have to submit, by hand, your site to all the major search engines. And finally, you get to wait.
That’s right, you have to wait for the spiders to come index your site. This could take weeks or this could take months. There are some methods that will help bring along the spiders a bit faster, but these take lots of time and effort and money. And still, you can’t be sure that the spiders will come fast enough.
Blogging and pinging solves this problem. You can guarantee that spiders will come to your site and that you will get listed in all the major search engines with minimal effort and no money – in about 48 hours!!!

How does it work? The largest search engine, Google, owns Blogger.com. This is the site we will use to help you create your blogs. Google sends their search engine spiders through Blogger.com to find new content.
When you blog the content on your site – an extremely easy process described in Chapter 5 – the URL of the page you are blogging is automatically attached. That way, when Google’s spiders come along, they “see” the URL. If that URL isn’t listed in the Google database, the spiders “run right over” to the URL and check it out!
Imagine that the URL found on the blog is YOUR site! Rather than wait for weeks, months, or even up to a year, you can get YOUR site listed immediately! Google themselves will tell you that they would rather “discover” new URL’s by finding links than get them via submission. So, why not blog and ping and give them what they want!!
Another good piece of news is that once Google has your site, other search engines that use Google’s feed will put you on their site, too. And it all happens at lightening speed!
Another technique you will learn here in Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 is how to get Yahoo to send their news spiders your way. Just like Google, Yahoo is looking for fresh content. And once they pick up your site, so will others.

Finally, Chapter 7 will show you how to ping other services like Technorati and blo.gs. So why would you want to be on these sites? One word: traffic. Services like Technorati spider your links in real time. If you show up on someone’s Technorati link list for their site they’re likely to visit your site to see what you said, increasing your exposure.

What Do The Spiders See?

We’ve talked a lot about spiders and pinging, but just what do spiders see when they come to your site?
Unlike “human” visitors, spiders are looking for links. In fact, they are not looking at your site at all – they are just scanning through your HTML code!
Let’s take a quick look at what a spider sees when it goes to your blog.

However, the spider is looking below the surface and scanning to find HTML links. When the spider crawls your content, it will see the following:

The HTML in the Link field as well as the HTML in the content field will be noted by the spider,

So, keep in mind, that for the blogging and pinging method to work, you have to optimize the blog for spiders. And that is exactly what you are going to learn to do – see like a spider!

As with other marketing strategies, you will need to do some work. However, the steps you will follow to blog and ping are easy and guaranteed to work. Once the system is set up, you can blog and ping to get any of your sites listed quickly.

The job is done. We now have a complete interactive Table Of Contents. Click the button in my sidebar to display the TOC. You can sort the TOC by Post Title by clicking the column header. Click it again, and it is sorted in reversed order. The same way if you want to sort the posts by date: newest first, or oldest first. And by clicking on one of the labels in the TOC filters all posts with that label. Click the column header to return to the full ToC.

Here is how to install it to your Blog.

Step 1: Back Up your Template.

Step 2: Add a HTML Page Element
Edit your template in HTML-mode, and look for the <b:section> with id=main. This is the section that holds the Blog posts.
Change that line as follows:

Save the template and switch to the Page Elements Tab.
Add a HTML page element above your Blog Posts element.
Leave the title blank. Add the following html:

Now add a HTML-element to the sidebar. Set the title to "TOC".
For the contents, enter:

UniQue Template

UniQue Template had launch a good template, the name is UniQue template R 1.8.
What the UniQue with this template? I think this a good looking template, specially
is had multiple column, that is main column for posting, 2 column sidebar at the right side,
3 column at the bottom, and the last is footer column. So with the multiple column, you can add
much more content into your blog. The default color is Green Color, but you can change
it very eazy at Font and Color tab. Change it and enjoy your favourite color.

I was add much the mini icon to this template, so the template become more beatiful.
This is a Free blog template, but if you using this template please don't delete the
Credits for legal using. Notes, i was upload the data template in the Zip File,
so before you uppload this template to Blogger, you must extract with Winzip.
